While I am in favor of pushing movies to streaming services, after today I can actually side with why Warner wouldn't want to push their movie to stream on HBOMax
HBOMax is not widely available.
Honestly blew my mind today. A few months ago my family ditched cable, upgraded to Hulu with live TV, and that included HBOMax. I use my Ps4 to stream everything, so I've had no problem.
Today the stairs near my bedroom were being repaired so I spent the day in my living room working, and watching tv while I work. Come to discover that my parents 65'' LG Smart tv can't download HBO Max because of the LG's WebOs smart tv software. They simply haven't made the app available for that system. Told my parents, then they tried to download HBOMax on their bedroom tv which has a Roku. Find out the same thing, HBOMax isn't available on the Roku devices.
Now years ago when something like Crunchyroll wasn't available on the smart tv operating systems, that was kind of understandable. But it's pretty shocking that one of the streaming services with such a big library still isn't available on Roku, one of the most popular companies for making streaming accessible, and on LG tv's.
So yeah, I'm beginning to understand why WB is in no rush to push their films to a streaming platform a good chunk of people likely can't even download while they are paying for it.
