Heck, Oda dyes Brook's afro random colors sometimes just to make it more visually interesting, rather than having a large glob of flat black in a color spread. Same reason he added all the soul king extras like that bright orange feathery thing and keeps putting him in hats for the spreads.
Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 8 - Onigashima)
-
-
Oh. That makes so much sense
-
Considering Yamato's color scheme, a white background would fit
-
The thing with the colors is that they are not consistent, the shade of each keeps changing.
Like, Zoro was presented with a softer green in the countdown.
Sanji's blue in this promotional stuff looks more like indigo.
Robin is more often violet, but sometimes more akin to purple.Of the current crewmates, Luffy, Nami, Usopp, Zoro, Franky, Sanji and Robin use primary colors. Chopper's pink is just a light shade of red or magenta (which is the mix of violet and red, but leaning towards red), and Jinbe's brown/beige is the mix of black and orange.
Well, if I were to guess last nakama's color, it would be white (thought Brook is black and white) or purple (which is not a real color, but also the mix of red and violet, but leaning more towards violet. However, purple is sometimes used for Robin).
-
Is it too subversive to think those colors don't matter at all?
They are not even part of the story.

Thing is, it does stick to their official SBS given colors, at this point is just a matter of time for Jinbro to be given his in one as well.
And it would be just out of anyone's mind to think that everyone but eleventh member gets a color.
to me, is just between Lime and Turquoise, every other "relevant" color, it's been taken already.
-

If only there was a character that had lime and turquoise in their design already…
-
If only there was a character that had lime and turquoise in their design already…
There isn't anything lime about Yamato, though.
If anything, he's overlapping with Robin and Franky's colors. Teal maybe, but that's not a standard color. Besides, lime has already been claimed.
!
-
Claimed is a strong word for a recurring side character
-
Yeah, light green and white (snow) looks better on Monet :ninja:.
May you continue to haunt my soul my Yuki-Onna Harpy.
But back on topic in regards to the colour scheme of Yamato, the hair does incorporate colours of White to Lime Green to Aquamarine to Turquiose. I'm assuming the shadows are what makes some of the white section of hair look purple.
-
Lime is Tama's color, back off carrot supporters!
-
Speaking of Tama, chapter 999 changed my interpretation of her story.
To me, it now appears that Tama was originally held on Onigashima Island by the Beast Pirates. She and the other captives were eventually freed by Ace and the Spade Pirates (and Yamato) when they assaulted Onigashima Island. The Spade Pirates brought Tama to Amigasa Village (her home before being abducted?) after leaving Onigashima.
I find it weird that Tama isn't shown in the initial flashback of the Spade Pirates becoming shipwrecked in Wano and being bound by the Amigasa villagers. Rather Tama's flashbacks of Ace involve him telling her that 'the Spade Pirates will be back with a bigger crew at which time he will consider her joining his crew if she became a bewitching kunoichi' or declaring to Tama that 'the next time the Spade Pirates are back in Wano, it will be a place she can eat as much as she wants'. The conversations Tama had with Ace involve him already deciding to leave Wano (and strengthening himself and his crew) which would be after he already attempted to kill Kaido on Onigashima but was unable to due to Kaido not being present and Ace not being strong enough (his fight with Yamato made Ace aware how strong Kaido could be if someone as strong as Yamato could not defeat him).
!
!
Tama being a captive on Onigashima Island could also help add substance to the comment Tama made when taking Luffy to her home about her having known pirates she liked and pirates she didn't like. Was the pirates she didn't like referring to the Beast Pirates because of her experience when she was held captive by them?!
Another curious memory Tama has of Ace is him using his abilities. If Tama interacted with Ace in just Amigasa Village, would Ace have had an opportunity to use his Mera Mera no Mi abilities? Nothing suggest Ace used his abilities there but what we know is that on Onigashima Island when Ace was battling Yamato, he was using his Mera Mera no Mi abilities. With the abducted Wano kids spectator to this fight, is this where Tama got to see Ace use his flames?!
If Tama was kept on Onigashima Island in the past, could Tama and Yamato have met? Could Tama's knowledge and admiration of the Kozuki clan have been the result of talking to Yamato (Kozuki Oden)? Would this conversation also have extended to stories mentioned in Oden's journal?!
And even further, is this how Tama knows the lay-out of Onigashima and how to navigate herself around the area - because she has been there before? It would be weird for a child in an unknown place to act with the level of certainty Tama is now showing. Tama knew how to get to Onigashima and appears to know her way around the area. Tama's plan may even involve utilising something she remembers from her past on Onigashima against the Beast Pirates. And on the topic of Tama coming to Onigashima on an "enemy ship", I believe that rules out Tama having sailed along with the Samurai that came to Onigashima. An enemy ship wouldn't have arrived at the same time as the rebellion forces. Which could very well mean that the shadow seen in chapter 979 watching Jinbe and Robin was not Tama and another character completely (Caribou?). Could this character be planning to capture Robin? If its Caribou does he plan to align himself with the Yonko by offering them Robin and his knowledge of Poseidon as consideration for getting him a sweet sweet deal?
!
And could Tama being friendly with animals also have enabled Yamato to befriend [some of] the animals on Onigashima? Is this how Yamato ended up befriending the Octopus that brought Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates + others with him into Wano Kuni?Hmmmm, now I'm curious about the meeting between Yamato and Tama.
-
I do think colour is important seeing as Oda has mentioned their colours and kept them mostly consistent (Sanji not being Black despite his epithet still confuses me lol) and at least according to Greg, an issue Oda was having with Jinbei was that he was Blue but blue was a colour already claimed by Sanji and Franky. So I would take this merch as confirming Jinbei's colour is brown unless Oda states otherwise in an SBS.
I don't this affects the rest of the Straw Hat candidates though as none of them have Brown as a motif (neither did Jinbei but maybe this is why he got it, because it's unclaimed). As far as I see it, the four main candidates have:
- Yamato: White (the central colour of her whole design). He doesn't have anything that clashes with the rest of the crew.
- Carrot: White (her own fur colour), Lime Green (a recurring outfit colour). Orange is also a possibility (colour of a carrot after all) but this clashes with Nami.
- Tama: Lime Green (the main colour of her outfit). Purple is also possible because of her hair but this is Robin's colour.
- Momo: nothing right now as his main colour is Pink, which is already taken by Chopper.
Also just in case people don't know, Vivi's colour is Gold and sometimes White as well. Meaning Vivi could act as a counter to both Yamato and Carrot but I personally don't think she does.

Speaking of Tama…
I actually really like this, partly because it adds more depth to another theory I like, Randy's theory on Tama being the child of Orochi. I was always wondering what the child abductions were all about in Wano. Was the sole reason to terrorise people or is there another meaning? If I could theorise a timeline of events based on these two theories, I think that:
- Tama is Orochi's daughter and was kidnapped by Hitetsu from the castle and taken to Amigasa village when she was a baby (for some reason).
- Orochi with Kaidou's help began kidnapping children all across the country in an attempt to find her. It took many years but eventually she, along with all the other children in Amigasa village, were taken.
- Ace arrives at Amigasa, finds out about the kidnapping and goes there to rescue her and the other children.
- Ace succeeds and leaves a strong impression on Tama. The spade pirates bring her back to Amigasa village.
- This all happens before Orochi has the chance to check these children and is super pissed off by it.
- Ace leaves promising Tama that he will return one day.
- Drake gets sent to Amigasa village to get the children back and succeeds, destroying the village. However, this time Hitetsu knows to expect it because it happened before and manages to keep Tama hidden.
- Orochi never finds Tama and she is presumed dead. The child kidnappings stop.
- Tama lives with Hitetsu in secret for two years until the present day.
I think this timeline all makes sense and would explain points like why the child kidnappings happened, why Drake would be sent to destroy the village and why Tama and Hitetsu would chose to live there alone. And like you mentioned Syphin, this would also explain why Tama seems accustomed to Onigashima and also
I hope this theory is true, I really like it.
-
By the way, it does seem like Jinbe's official color is brown.

And there goes any hope of Sir Crocodile Joining the crew
Not that there was ever really a chance

Regarding Yamato, if there's a role that he would occupy if he did indeed join, it would be Apprentice.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the recent Oden flashback put an emphasis on Apprenticeship with Shanks, Buggy and Marco. It would also be a neat parallel with kaido, who was also an Apprentice (although while Kaido's crew failed to accomplish Rocks' goals, Yamato's would succeed).
-
It feels weird to have someone be called an apprentice who is the son of a Yonkou and stronger than two thirds of the existing crew. It's not like Yamato has much to learn about piracy. Why not label Yamato as a combatant?

Oden knew shit about piracy, but was absurdly strong. Also, Shanks, Marco and Kaido used to be Apprentices and are literally Emperor-level by now. Apprentices can be super strong.
Yamato literally knows nothing about piracy since he has never stepped out of Wano and, as explained in the most recent chapter, is left out of expeditions. Everything they know comes from a book.
-
I got it. Have Yamato show an incredible talent for organization and numbers, and they can be the Quartermaster.
And before you ask, I prefer a check, Oda. :P
-
Yamato being the apprentice could lead to some funny stuff with Usopp and Chopper taking the monstrous Yonko child who is actually older than them under their wing as their apprentice. Or Oda could just give Zoro the First Mate title officially and let Yamato be the new fighter

First Yamato takes Ace from Tama, then fans says she will take the 2,9 fruit, and now the apprentice position too? Yamato you motherf*****, you're taking everything Tama is working for!!

Any cat fruit, tiger is the one fitting the most I guess, Ne = 2, ko = 9, neko neko no mi model tiger for example

Here's my guess for the 2, 9 2, 9 fruit, the tsuku tsuku no mi.
i believe her power is the tsuku tsuku no mi, 2,9 2,9. tsuku simply meaning attach.
and it is inspired by doraemon actually,About the idea behind the “Devil Fruits” that appear in the series, Oda says he was influenced a lot as a kid by the series Doraemon and thus that most of his inspiration comes from his everyday life - Oda
https://doraemon.fandom.com/wiki/Momotaro_Jirushi's_Millet_Dumplings
A net bag with a picture of a peach and the word "Kibidango" written in hiragana above it contains dozens of dumplings, and every animal that eats them will become emotionally attached to the person who gave them to it. The dumplings are effective on all animals, including humans, and are only effective if a human eats them and they are fed to the person they want to attract.
and this was cleverly hinted in the sbs of 93 where Oda mentioned the tanuki teapot being emotionally attached to tama (and hitetsu)

It is not a coincidence since Tama is the future pirateking's apprentice.

I am willing to say Carrot would join before Tama would, and I don't think she will.
I mean, come on, she's a little girl who can't defend herself and with a DF that's very situational, at that.

She defended Usopp and Nami pretty well, now im just waiting to see what her plan is…
The most predictable would be that she set up some trap to feed a bunch smiles with her kibidango, but I'm hoping it is something else, like maybe it has something to do with the ship she came with? What is Speed up to? Maybe she will dumb the mountain god on Kaidous head? Im super stoked for whatever it is. -
Tama can power up watching pokemon trainer smash u tutorial videos. Super swap tech inc. She also needs a 3rd monster.
Sad that her power hasn't shown kuchiyose like properties. -
So if it's a cat, it's Luffy's cat. If it's a dog, it's Momonosuke's dog?
Edit: wait, "ne" is not "2", so neko is not 2,9.

Sorry, I just can not even believe she is a candidate for a moment.

Sorry, I just can not even believe she is a candidate for a moment.
Her animals are her fighting style, just like Capone uses his men and Cracker his biscuits, it would however be great if she had some complimentary abilities, she just reconfirmed she has been working on being a kunoichi so it might come up soon, maybe a fight vs Bao Huang without her pets? Hmmm
She should be the no 1 candidate if only because she was promised to join Ace's crew and for her having the closest bond to Luffy outside of the strawhats, not to mention. a dream that isn't just "I want to travel".

Sad that her power hasn't shown kuchiyose like properties.hoping for the third to be a bird, repping the pheasant in the momotaro story, and yeah, seems like there's no summoning to her powers, I'm still hopeful though based on the 3 min, maybe Hihimaru was defeated before the 3 min was up
-
If Tama has some way to carry her animals Pokemon-style then I would say Tama is the main candidate because I think being able to defend herself is the only issue she faces with joining the Straw Hats.
Of course, they could be also setting Tama up to have a relationship with Luffy like he has with Shanks.

And it makes the most sense since the tiger haven't been claimed yet, unlike wolves, dogs, etc.

Really, do you think so? For me it's just another Carrot situation.
We have two animal-like crew members in the crew, Chopper who is a reindeer and Jinbe who is a humanoid whaleshark, both reindeer and whalesharks feels original, unique and unprecedented. Neither a tiger or a rabbit doesnt, especially not a tiger. And I say this a huge tiger lover lmao, part of what makes Lucci and Pedro special is that they're based on lesser popular big cats, tiger powers has been done to death, and if Yamato has it, then I'm 100% sure she is just the Kyros of the onigashima, the main ally character. -

And she's also not gonna be furry all the time either, it all fine.

And why does he get the apprentice role when Usopp, Sanji, Chopper and Franky all similarly knew nothing about it when they set out to sail with Luffy? They might have met pirates but Yamato is still beyond them in terms of exposure to pirates. Even post-timeskip their experience amounts to what, weeks, months? During the timeskip none of the Straw Hats acted as pirates so all they have on their resume is the time they spent together

Regardless of whether or not Yamato ends up joining the Straw Hats, I think it would still be neat to have a female Straw Hat who’s gleefully more willing to join in on Luffy and the other’s antics, because Nami and Robin seem too mature to be interested in joining in on Luffy’s tomfoolery for the most part.

You mean Carrot?
Yamato is male.
-
How can Yamato know literally nothing about piracy when his father is one of the most infamous pirates?
Because he doesn't go on expeditions. He's left behind when everybody else leaves to do piracy.
It's just like the Kuja Amazons. Their leader is a bigshot pirate, yet they are completely ignorant of anything outside their little island unless they actually ride around on Hancock's pirate ship.
And why does he get the apprentice role when Usopp, Sanji, Chopper and Franky all similarly knew nothing about it when they set out to sail with Luffy?
Because they already had defined roles within the crew. Franky didn't join in order to learn how to be a pirate, but to be the resident shipwright.
Yamato is a character that could join as an apprentice because they have no idea what being a pirate entails, since his father doesn't allow him to adventure. He's just like Oden, who had several montages of him screwing up basic piracy. He just needs the motivation to learn to become a pirate.
They might have met pirates but Yamato is still beyond them in terms of exposure to pirates. Even post-timeskip their experience amounts to what, weeks, months? During the timeskip none of the Straw Hats acted as pirates so all they have on their resume is the time they spent together
That's still beyond anything Yamato has experienced.
We're talking about a character who has never sailed on his life.
Plus, the Straw Hats are not rookies anymore. They are already experienced enough, especially when their crew has two veteran pirates in Brook and Jinbe.
-
Its a huge characteristic of the Shonen Genre to add a great and promising apprentice(of whatever the shonen is) in the last part of the series.
-

I still think it‘s dishonest to say that Yamato knows „literally nothing“ about piracy. He doesn‘t have first-hand experience but he probably still knows more about it than most of the other Straw Hats did when they started.
Because they already had defined roles within the crew. Franky didn't join in order to learn how to be a pirate, but to be the resident shipwright.

So while every other Straw Hat is a standout in their role on the ship, Yamato gets shoe horned into being the apprentice simply because you think there‘s no other role for him to fill. Except that he can simply be a combatant, a role that is very common and doesn‘t necessitate someone being inexperienced in piracy.
That's still beyond anything Yamato has experienced.
We're talking about a character who has never sailed on his life.
Not sure if I would want to be an apprentice to someone who has barely more experience than me.
