! Samsara may have covertly existed in the Bleach world this whole time. Also, fucking incredible chapter. Bleach is BACK!

Let's point and laugh at Kubo's new abomination.

The Bleach hate in here is unreal! It was a great series if you reread the entire thing and ignore the anime’s pacing/characterization. Pay attention to the poetry. Kubo’s framing. The subtleties…
tbh, I feel like much of the hate is coming from people who aren’t actually seeking to understand what it’s all about (death, obviously)
Fascinating chapter, really interesting stuff.

Ripping Bleach (and Naruto) to shreds is a local hobby of this forum, it's probably one of the worst places for a genuine Bleach fan.
A pretty great chapter. Kubo had said that Senna was based on a theoretical daughter of Rukia and Renji and Ichika really does act like her. Kazui continues to be a nice, if kinda creepy kid. I'm glad we got to see what Akon could do after all this time. Urahara singlehandedly modernizing the Seireitei against Mayuri's wishes is pretty funny too.
Kubo was always interested in doing hell related stuff in the manga but he never got the chance to do it. I'm looking forward to see what he does now.

I get the feeling that a lot of the hate stems from the days when folks were seriously arguing over which was the best shounen manga, One Piece, Naruto or Bleach.
he returns…
Sour Truth Opinion Time: Bleach and Naruto hate kept this place alive and lively. As soon as they ended the forums were never the same.

Most of the haters here (including me) were reading it weekly and not watching the anime.
! Jesus christ, here I was thinking being uber strong was the only way to not have a shitty soul society life. It sucks no matter what you do.
Life and afterlife’s a bitch and then you die.

What does the anime’s pacing and characterization have to do with Kubo’s inconsistent writing and drawing ability?
This is an even weirder take when you remember that there were people who exclusively read the manga along with the fact the anime was cancelled long before the manga ended.
You can accept the fact that both versions of the series have shared and different issues.

I’ve been on this forum since 2005 and the atmosphere around here is way better now than it used to be. You can thank people mellowing out and some of the riff-raff moving on.
I don't even know what to say to this. It sounds like it could be an interesting addition, but in the hands of Kubo, it doesn't inspire confidence. The whole captain level souls go to hell because they're too powerful just sounds incredibly stupid and contrived.
It’s beyond stupid & makes no sense, but that’s exactly why I love this series so much: to see what insanity kubo will pull out of his hat next.
I caught up with Bleach in the first part of the not-supernatural-nazi invasion of not Feudal Japan hell heaven.
I have no qualms on the discussion which of the big three was the best, I watched what 10 episodes of the Bleach anime in 2007.
There no poetry, Kubo couldn't be subtle if he hit ya with a brick. If he tries to pass so message about grievance and death he does a piss poor job.
As a world builder I could say he's a great artist, but even there he's stuck with the smug, bishonen or bland expressions.
Even Kubo's ability as an artist is overrated because he is extremely lazy. He always found excuses to put his characters into factions with bland uniforms so that he did not have to create new unique looks and made them fight in the sky or somewhere empty like Hueco Mundo so that he did not have to create backgrounds. I am not a fan of Mashima but you can see and feel how he at least tries. Not the case at all with Kubo the slacker.
super legit, i did not recognize ichigo when he first appeared. he seemed like a completely different character.
also, a lot of the shinigami just blend together for me. ganguro girl stands out, because she has an actual distinct design. but the rest are just the same. all copy and paste.

Such an odd thing to say when Kubo usually goes to pains to give even uniforms their own unique little flair for each character that wears them.
C'mon there's nothing in Kubo's art that screams EFFORT and you know it. Most uniforms are quite bland, as is the manga general tone.
I liked the h4xxxed powers he would come up and how he would try to "solve" the situation with even more absurdities. Mauyri in particular was always a pleasure to see.
Kubo is on fire with this return! Goddamn! There was nostalgia AND a knife turn!
Also, fuck off with the 'lazy' baloney. A laborer deserves to maintain his health. Furthermore, simplicity is a style that goes back decades.
I liked the chapter because it did a good job of setting up the presumed sequel arc and giving us some interesting new characters. Kubo's pretty good at coming up with interesting premises for his stories, but he doesn't always achieve a spectacular result when it comes to actually keeping the momentum flowing.
Can't wait for the "Aizen's purpose was to free people by end in the hell all along" revelation.
Seems like that would be more in-line with Yhwach's goal since he mentioned wanting to end the cycle of life and death or something along those lines.
I love this chapter. For once, Kubo have condensed lot of content into single chapter, usually it's just small pieces every time not enough to satisfy the hunger.
The reveal of strong characters being sent to hell, for purpose to prevent their strong reishi from disrupting balance of the world. I wonder in which way the reishi that won't return to earth would cause harm. But the important thing is that gives explanation to lot of things in Bleach verse. So this is why soul society imprisons criminals in muken, that are too strong "to be killed". Could this be why Aizen was reluctant to kill off captains and kept them just barely alive during the arrancar war? Soo this is why Kubo made that weird comment about still having not decided whenever Ulquiorra still survived after turning into dust. And most importantly, all of them, the characters that maybe we haven't seen enough of. There is possibility to see them once again in action. Stark, Gin, Ukitake. No, even more, we could see the previous deceased generations of soul society captains.
Umm, I don't see that much hate concerning Bleach. Most of the forums and social media platforms i'm on are cheering for more Bleach content or another story from Kubo.
I know hate. Some of the Naruto forums I used to be on had OP sections where I was 1 of a few talking about it. Users who barely read it would randomly pop in to say "hack" or shit on the power system and lack of deaths.
I seen one user in here call their own critique hate, but I disagree and see it as critique. There's more love for the series than bitterness. The few that hate only do it because of all the appreciation and love the series gets. They wouldn't feel obligated to do so, if they didn't see others genuinely enjoy it.

I'll ignore the mindreading delusions and get to a more solid point. Difference between art and design is that purpose of art is to convey emotion/experience, while design is just raw quality of execution. Thus the common technique of artist is instead of doing everything well, but focusing on things that matter and what is a focal point of a composition. In other words, you just don't understand basics of art and view his work from designers perspective.
Well. I don't hate Bleach and never had. I think it's a bad wrote funny ride and it works extremely well as entertainment tool.
That aside, the chapter is good, and
! are we going to get a canonical Hell Arc in Bleach? It also looks like a way to make use of dead characters and unveil their abilities (Bankai) we didn't see before. Also, this could give us previous captains and ancient characters all together. Hoping Kubo will not lock himself on using only known characters, as I have hype.
If nothing else, Kubo knows what 12-year-old me would find cool.
! And that deaf guy with the bird sword is exactly what I'd consider cool. Just don't pull a Tousen please.
The scans didn't translate his shikai command though. He writes on his sword "Bring to life".
! I don't really know what to think of the captains being sent to hell. I'm not too interested in the minute details of Bleach's world, I'm just in it for the fights.
Kubo always over relied on blank/empty spaces to do "emotional stuff" (never4get "the heart" and hueno muedo's first intro picture). There's a time and place for it but when its a consistent cycle again and again it goes from artistic expression to possibly "is this guy putting in the effort".
Anyway, he's always had a tendency to start with interesting ideas that more or less peter out quickly so i'm curious how this is gonna go. The franchise should have been able to support him for life so perhaps there's some ideas he always wanted to do. Let's see if it ends up being the dregfest like the 1000-year war where every chapter was a slog/unintentional hilarity etc.

Perhaps you need to reread entire Bleach, because it seems that information that isn't there have stuck more in your head than what Kubo have actually drawn. When you have blank page, your attention normally goes too anything that isn't. The heart, I laughed about it too. But it was artistic too at same time, it wasn't just a blank page with some letters on it.
Can't say I hate Bleach either. Naruto and Bleach were some of the works that got me into manga and the first ones I followed weekly online. Both had excellent starts and then kind of fell from grace. But even at their worst I still enjoyed them because of the absurdity and attachment to the characters.
I'll probably re-read Bleach one day so I can form a more mature opinion on it. But I doubt I'll ever consider those last two arcs good.
As for this chapter, it was pretty decent. Slice-of-life and Mayuri are two things I recall Bleach handling better.
Backgrounds would be drawn by assistants. The decision to not include them would have nothing to with anything except Kubo making an artistic decision.
Gonna guess which language will be usen in the new arc. After Japanese Soul Society, Spanish Hueco Mundo, German Quincy and English spin-off, what? Italian hell?

Mussolini Italian hell would be quite hilarious i have to admit.
I also laugh at the people using the "you just don't understand!" defence to explain things away. I expect sales numbers to be used next to "prove" the series quality.

Kubo is a big user of the J. J. Abrams mystery box philosophy. He throws stuff on the wall and sees what sticks without any idea of what will happen next. The Aizen soul society twist was born exactly like that. The rushed ending with the Quincies screams not knowing how to end it which is why it went on forever and still failed to reach a satisfying conclusion. Of course, people defending Kubo will say that Shueisha did him dirty by cancelling the series but they actually respected him enough to give him years to close the knot and he just squandered it.
Well an Italian Dante's Inferno wouldn't surprise anyone and the concept was already used a LOT (but I LOVE it, so I'd eagearly consume it nham nham)
So is this a new series? I thought i was going to be a oneshot and now i am confused.
I heard Kubo might be bringing back Bleach, also heard he’s going to be doing a Hell arc, which in my opinion is what he should have done in the first place after Ichigo got his powers back
Honestly if Kubo learned from his mistakes and starts working hard and plans out things, fact checks and you know actually puts in work and doesn’t just wing it and hope everything works out okay it could actually be good, I mean the beginning of Bleach and Soul Society are two of my favorite shonen arcs of all time
Mussolini Italian hell would be quite hilarious i have to admit.
As an Italian by myself, I'd laugh to it too. Can't wait for some "Inferno Fiammante" with a lot of furigana over it.

The bad side of this point of view is not seeing it's exactly Kubo's non-sense what made this series enjoyable ride. I mean, I am at the point I am sure I'd not liked it that much if it was more serious or else. Every chapter ending with the "I have the upper hand with this unbelievable still predictable and no-sense power up which also gives me three inches over you" is exactly what made me endure all those years. Laughing over it, but still endured.
That…..was kinda cool, actually. It was nice to see everyone in action, Ichika and Kazui exist beyond "kids of the main characters", and Mayuri once again steals the show with his design. I swear he's consistently the most entertaining thing about Bleach.
I believe we even saw Akon's release? also just for the heck of it, i think we have all the new gotei 13 filled out
1st: kyoraku/nanao
2nd: soifon/omaeda
3rd: rose/kira
4th: isane/kiyone(?)
5th: shinji/hinamori
6th: byakuya/renji
7th: iba/quiet dude
8th: lisa/gyaru girl
9th: kensei/[mashiro + hisagi]
10th: hitsugaya/matsumoto
11th: kenpachi/ikkaku (?)
12th: mayuri/2nd nemu
13th: rukia/….i want to say sentaro
it's been while since i read the last chapter so this might not be accurate but i THINK it's the current gotei.
The Bleach hate in here is unreal! It was a great series if you reread the entire thing
Many of us like(d) Bleach, it's just the later arcs caused disappointment which spawned critique. I will admit to being pretty ranty and unreasonable in the past but nowadays I'm a bit more relaxed with the series. I still don't like the final arc, but I can point to a lot of things in the overall sense that I liked.
and ignore the anime’s pacing/characterization.
Care to elaborate? What varies beyond the filler arcs slowing things down? (genuine question)

there actually was this mass panel edit of everyone appearing behind each other (urahara, ichigo, grimmjow, etc.) and it was really funny. Wish I saved it.

Mayuri's always entertaining. He was the highlight of the quincy arc. Both him and Kenpachi were far more entertaining to watch then anything else during that time.
Wait, is it out already?

That was quite enjoyable. Despite the decline in quality, you could always still see some of the qualities shine through with the characters interactions. Unique designs with the personalities of the characters always made for a good time. I remember the final chapter liking it because we got to see just that with the banter between characters. All the lore we got about the captains after they die and everything else reminded me that Kubo always had interesting ideas. The start of every arc had an interesting hook that could have gone in really interesting directions making you think about certain things. Unfortunately, his execution in those ideas never bloomed into something great, or at worse he just dropped them. To this day I see so many people claim that Kubo was a poet, that it was less the story and more the symbolism and philosophy. If he was doing actual poetry or drawings to show ideas I could let that pass and even appreciate some of what he was going for. But for what is supposed to be a continuous story that builds up and pays off from what came before, Kubo could never properly do that once the Soul Society arc ended, and it only continued to show as the series went on.
I do want to reread the series again in the near future, since I have grown to look at media in a much different way, and not having to read weekly will result less in me just laughing at the randomness of each chapter. Doubt my mind will really change on the series as a whole, but unlike some series such as Fairy Tail and Toriko where when it was bad there wasn't much to say, Bleach always had something about it's terrible quality that was endearing.
I actually missed Mayuri. One of the few characters who's actually fun to follow.
Surprised at the general lack of Byakuya and Kenpachi. Kubo always loved shoving those two around.
I remember to be used thinking Bleach's manga is an exceptional anime subject. Fillers aside adaptation really did miracles handling the pace, even adapting five or six chapters each episode.
I kinda remember some rumours about how Burn the Witch was intended to be a manga/anime pilot eventually going to be developed only-anime. What if this one-shot is actually the same? We know Quincy war is going to be adapted, then maybe if it'll have good reception, we'll straightly get Bleach Shippuden with Kubo only providing ideas and overall storyline. Having someone saying him "yeah that's really good, but it can be better this way" would actually build an exceptional product.

I know a number of us, myself included, have said multiple times that Kubo should just handle the art of a series and possibly act as an idea guy. Then have an actual competent write filter and refine a story from those ideas. Bleach could've been this tremendously amazing story, but Kubo constantly gets caught up in his own pretension and forgets that a story needs, well, a story. And not just a series of loosely connected scenes that look cool.
Thinking more about this chapter and how it relates to Bleach I know up to this point, I remembered Yamamoto's ability to summon dead that he have killed. Some conceptual ties with this chapter. But also the skeletons he summons is what the espada's burning arm looks like. I wonder if it's a scar left by him.
Gonna guess which language will be usen in the new arc. After Japanese Soul Society, Spanish Hueco Mundo, German Quincy and English spin-off, what? Italian hell?
Latin would fit best in my opinion.

Oh thanks! Oh man for some reason I just really want to see Chad again, I don’t know why but I love that character, always have, but unfortunately he’s almost always been the Yamcha of the series, every time it looks like he’s improving he gets one shotted and taken out, the worst was when he swore he’d never be a liability to Ichigo again only to get mind controlled by the bookmark guy two seconds later
Chad and his on going relationship with the floor.
I liked most of the chapter.
I just don't like the Gyaru. Looks like blackface no matter how many times someone breaks it down.
https://edomonogatari.wordpress.com/2019/10/05/kubo-horikoshi/
I loved that even Kubo is aware of the background thing.
