@Jabra:
I didn't say that they were trying to stall for time. I'm saying that this was all they were capable of. That was the end result, the same result we see whenever a Warlord or a commander goes against an Admiral or a Yonkou.
Your feelings and impressions are fine and all, but these are the facts unless I'm missing something here.
I don't think there is a split in the middle. But even if there would be, people have weird biases for all kind of reasons. Like Mihawk being stronger than Shanks and stuff like that.
@MiyamotoMusashi:
Those matchups never existed.
They clashed once during the entire war, kizaru with Marco at the beginning, Jozu and Aokiji right when the latter was about to freeze Whitebeard, one and a half chapters later Jozu was finished, which is pretty consistemz with what Jabna said.
Marco is an exception due to the nature of his ability, in turn though he attacked Admirals 3 times, they did not even have dust on their suits.
And besides Akainu, none of them were actually serious except Akainu, they just had to make sure Ace would die.
Kizaru wanted tonget over it quickly, hence attacked WB, saw he actually had to put up effort, and then disappeared for most of the battle while having his hands in his pockets.
Same for Aokiji.
These guys have the power to literally, permanently change the climate of an island as a byproduct of their fight, Marineford was hardly even a sneak peek.
Again guys not just me who thinks this
look at these posts

@King:
I honestly think that will only happen once they face Blackbeard.
Yonkou Commanders are more or less on the level of Admirals going by Marco & Jozu. Even Vista can handle Mihawk to an extent. We still have some story to get through and the likes of Zoro-Sanji-Jinbe will only manage to hit that level by endgame (since we're expecting them to face Admirals by then).
@King:
Marineford. At the very least, Oda portrayed them on the level of not being scared at all to fight an Admiral.
Marco and Kizaru were in a stalemate. We also had Jozu facing and even wounding Aokiji (not to mention blocking a slash from Mihawk). Of course, it was a chaotic mess and distractions and interferences were all taking a part on it. Kizaru required Onigumo to put shackles on Marco to actually start hurting him.
And then there's Ace, whose attack equally clashed with Aokiji's befre he died to Akainu due to superior Devil Fruit or some shit.
Also, Whitebeard was much superior than any Admiral. Aokiji was more or less powerless against him due to disadvantageous DF, and Akainu got literally dunked underground when Ace died.
@RomanceDawn:
Top commanders are totally capable of contending with Admirals. By end of series thats like the peak of what we can expect from Zoro, Sanji and Jimbei. The portrayal of the White Beard Pirates was nothing like the curb stomp that happened to the Super Novas at Saboady. Marco, Jozu and Rayleigh were shown plenty capable of holding their own against Admirals.
Now that doesn't necessarily mean they would defeat them, just that the possibility is there. And under the circumstances Jozu and Marco got hit the hardest when distracted and worried about their pops.
Akainu was portrayed as a bigger dog than Aokiji and Kizaru plus he's got the personality to match. Aokiji still battled Akainu evenly for days on end despite losing the battle. But White Beard was depicted as being on a level even greater than all of them. Still with that said being the Strongest Man in the world doesn't mean that no one could give him a good fight.
I feel like half the people go well this Commander is 9.0 while the Admiral is 9.5! The math has spoken!
Our heroes don't have to be on the same level as the enemy. They can be totally disadvantaged and outmatched until they strategize and grow mid fight. I'm totally betting on Zoro finishing King, Sanji taking Queen and Jimbei putting down Jack or Smoothie. That's my prediction unless Kaido has an Ace hidden somewhere that may or may not be his son. At that point all I'll do is mix and match again.
To be fair that battle was expanded upon in a pretty great way and I straight up hate the anime for the most part. All you'll see in the comments is how much in love people are with Sanji, return to form, etc.

literally just a few pages back
plenty of people have the interpretation
and those are just ones from this thread, there's plenty of other people who debate this constantly
EDIT: My point is, if there's enough people who believe in that side of the argument, there's got to be some reason and maybe they may have a point
EDIT 2: Okay…. maybe I'm not stating this right, I'm not saying that just because a group of people all agree on something means it immediately has some merit, otherwise Flat Earth Truthers, or anti vaccine people or any other group of wack jobs would immediately get justification
but within the fandom, usually if something's got people arguing different sides, maybe that means there's different ways to interpret said scenes, and maybe both sides have points to consider
that's all I'm saying
