Yeah from that video, I kinda got a feeling they might go to route with how they dub the East Blue, Barqoue Works, and Skypiea episodes.

@Elektrik:
On multiple occasions I've been trying to watch the dub on the Funimation app on PS4 and it crashes, so I have to put the dvds in
I have used the app on Roku in the past for catching up on black clover and it worked fine, even if the menu is kind of wonky.
-
That could work out. It would prioritize multiple staff teams working alongside the VAs.
Have Team A finish Punk Hazard, Team B working on Dressrosa, Team C on Zou and Team D on Whole Cake Island all simultaneously.I’m pretty sure by multiple he meant two. Haha. Probably just a WCI and a DR team.
-
Even if it's just two teams, its better then just one team working on the show.
-
I always take multiple to mean more than 2.
-
I'm not 100% sure they are writing out of sequence, or even working on multiple arcs, as writer Clint Bickham states
Our pace is fast enough to stay ahead of multiple teams recording, so there's no need to jump around or go out of sequence
-
He was talking about script writing, not recording. I took it to mean he was far enough ahead in scripting that they could record another arc because he’d already written all the scripts.
-

I hope you're right Zephray. The fact they have a head start is a good sign.
I asked Clint for clarification, and he responded
There are only so many recording hours in a day and the idea is to dub episodes quickly, so if you have multiple teams, you can move faster than a usual dub. Different actors will likely record different parts at different times, but nothing on a "whole arc" scale.
-
Gotcha. So they aren’t recording multiple arcs at once as we all were speculating. They’re just using multiple teams to get through episodes faster. Makes sense, and that’s actually better in terms of us getting episodes quickly.
-
I hope you're right Zephray. The fact they have a head start is a good sign.
I asked Clint for clarification, and he responded
Interesting, if they are trying that fast, maybe we'll get monthly 13 episode releases, at least on the website. Especially with punk hazard already dubbed for a while. If they just keep a format like that up, that would get us to the start of whole cake island by the end of 2020. I mean, the DVD's would still be behind but at least the dub would be out there. well, this is just me speculating off basically nothing but it's nice to dream :P
-
Alright this is embarassing, but due to money and life issues I stopped buying DVDs and stopped tracking the dub for a long, long time. I've only been aware the dub paused for a month now.
Either way, while Punk Hazard kind of loses it's charm on second viewing (it's a little long and the mystery was the most interesting part, after that it's there's not much more than Dressrosa buildup, if I recall correctly) it's great that this dub is starting again. The have like, what 500 episodes dub after geting like 570 down? They have a lot to work with.
I'm strangely looking forward to Zou, in part because it seems like a few Dressrosa characters are getting their voices previewed in the new Stampede movie. That's where a lot of new voices will be premiered, besides Kinemon in Punk Hazard of course.
-
That really make sense now. Then again, I'm just happy that the dub is continuing. I haven't really rewatch Punk Hazard, since it originally was simulcast years ago. I probably will rewatch Punk Hazard on crunchyroll before the dvds starts coming out for the arc. For the upcoming arcs that haven't been dub yet, I mostly excited for both Punk Hazard and Whole Cake Island.
-
Clint has offered a little more info here when asked about say, dubbing Dressrosa and Whole cake simultaneously:
Although that's possible, it makes more sense to have two teams working on Dressrosa to get those episodes out as quickly as they can. I don't want to step out of bounds when it comes to dropping official info, but I wouldn't read into the "multiple teams" thing too much.
-
It’s really great that they’re continuing the dub, but I just can’t help but feel a bit sad when there’s no simuldub announcement. Not that I ever really expect them to, I mean it’s a great thing that they’re even continuing the dub at all. But each time someone calculates the point in time in which we’ll reach a certain arc I just think to myself “ah it’d be great if we had a simuldub”.

We actually heard two lines from Kinemon in the Episode of Sabo recap movie. Same with Cesar.

I always liked Punk Hazard more than the online community. It’s a fun arc, everything from Vergo, to Doflamigo at the end, Kine-mon, my boy Smoker, good gags, and of course the wonderful Cesar Clown. I get that they’re running for too long in the arc and that the anime’s pacing makes it even rougher regards ugly nonstop running animations, but I’m not sure why people dislike this arc.
-
Its certainly better than Dressrosa!
-
Its certainly better than Dressrosa!
Agreed fullheartedly. But I’m one of those weird anime fans who doesn’t like fighting, so of course I think that. Dressrosa has a tournament arc AND a barrage of final fights. Ugh. There’s some good stuff in that arc, but it’s few and far between. And overlong, of course.
-
Even the fighting is better on Punk Hazard. Fite me dammit.
-
While it is better than nothing, i was hoping to get at least 26 episodes :p because knowing me, i will burn through those 13 very quickly
-
Awesome news that we are getting more Dub One Piece Episodes :D

I’m notorious here for rationing episodes, but even I’m going to fly through these thirteen. It’s been too long.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
For anyone feeling like this is the bare minimum, it isn’t. We got two good bits of news today we weren’t expecting. (1) We don’t have to wait till February for new dubbed episodes! (2) They’re putting more resources into the dub so that they can release episodes even faster than before—and the schedule before was twelve episodes every two months. Faster than that is pretty amazing.
When do you folks think we’ll get the first drop? Weeks or days?
-
Punk Hazard definitely has plenty of fun moments I can't wait to finally see dubbed. This was the last arc I fully watched of the subbed anime and have only caught clips of things here and there since. I just really hope they won't subject us to the usual "Wait nearly a full year before we finally release this set of episodes on dvd/bluray" that they're doing all their streaming dubs with. I prefer to watch the physical releases.
Guess I'm just too behind the times though. I still don't care for Simuldubs and really don't want to see One Piece ever become one. Simuldubbing just seems like an excuse to make lazy choices and do sloppy work just to get the episodes out faster. I definitely don't have faith that a One Piece Simuldub would've done all of WCI's musical numbers the proper justice.

So the new eps have been put online already?
-
Well Mercotty, Funi's simuldubs such as MHA, and Astra Lost in Space are of very high quality. They don't have to compromise quality for time.

Not yet. You misread my message.

I’m not convinced this is true. What simuldubs have been “bad quality” in your opinion? An episode of anime doesn’t take a whole week to dub. It really only takes a few days, and they have the material a week before, so there’s plenty of time. Some simuldubs are two weeks behind the Japanese releases, which gives Funimation three weeks to dub them. Your only good point is about more effort-intensive stuff like songs. But if that slows them down, they can always delay a week, as they have, or their three week behind schedule can cover it fine.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
OPP episode came out. They didn’t know about the dub coming back until we did. The interview with Colleen coming out this week will have no information about the dub episodes because they recorded it a few days ago, before the news dropped.
-
Oh, sorry, I'm just not a very trusting person. Funimation definitely has the track record to deserve the trust for simuldub quality, but I'll never be able to get away from the idea in my head that it's still a shorter time limit and that shorter time has to be split up even more between all their different simuldubs at the time. Delays always help, but I was under the impression popular opinion was to complain about them and that even being just 1 week behind defeats the purpose of it being simuldubbed. I just like One Piece too much to want to roll the risk….even if it's no different than how they've always dubbed and I'm just crazy paranoid.
Still excited for more One Piece dub. I'm just not big on watching anime online anymore (I really need to get in the habit of using duel monitors more, maybe that'd help) and the physical releases are feeling like they're taking longer and longer these days...
-
I'll never be able to get away from the idea in my head that it's still a shorter time limit and that shorter time has to be split up even more between all their different simuldubs at the time
It's totally reasonable to assume the quality would drop if they spread their resources too thin. But I think the reality is that they have sacrificed working on any non-simuldub shows instead. Like, literally besides One Piece, what non-currently airing shows have Funimation dubbed in the past couple years? Seems to me their sole focus is simuldubbing right now. I haven't seen any older properties get dubbed outside of those D. Gray-Man episodes they had skipped
-
Well Mercotty, Funi's simuldubs such as MHA, and Astra Lost in Space are of very high quality. They don't have to compromise quality for time.
Yeah, many simuldubs in my experience are still in excellent quality. Ultimately what matters is we're getting more episodes at a faster pace, and I'm sure that won't lower the quality. Maybe I'm biased because I already subscribe to Funimation now and don't mind waiting a little longer on home video releases, but I personally think anything to speed up the release of the dub is excellent even if that means the app is ahead of the home releases.
That said I'm probably in the minority here, but I haven't minded that they've taken a break from episodes in favor of these TV specials because I've never watched any of these specials before, whereas for the main series I've read the manga, reread the manga, and watched the subbed episodes already. So it's been nice for me personally to give them money and experience something new all at the same time. I know that's probably just me, and I'm still super thrilled we're getting back on track now that they've caught up with their Specials, but it's a nice thought now that we could be getting steady streams of episodes, new TV specials, and new movies without breaks or gaps from this point onwards.
It's nice to be able to post in these discussions again. Between being a small business owner and planning a wedding I'm definitely nowhere near as active as I used to be, but I do still love seeing the familiar user names still posting and do my best to keep the FAQ topic as up to date as possible. A lot has changed for me since I joined up 11 years ago, but my love for both One Piece and Funi's dub has not. I still listen to every commentary on every release.
-
Yeah, there are only a few of us from the original days when the Funimation dub was announced that back in April 2007 that still come here and talk about the dub. But the last couple days, got me a excited that a lot of people came here and talk about the speculations of things to come for the dub in the future.
-
I think Funimation are doing an outstanding job on the majority of simuldubs they do. I can't speak for all of it, but I do watch at least a handful each season, and considering Black Clover has entered its third consecutive year, the quality of that dub is very high. I do believe Dragon Ball Super will return in due course, maybe after Kitaro finishes up (looking like April) not sure where Toei lie these days on Simuldubs, but it wouldn't surprise me if they allow Funimation to SD Super, and if they do, not sure where that puts One Piece again. Hoping it won't have an impact, though to be honest, we don't know if it did when it was on toonami.
In a perfect world, Super will get simuldubbed, and One Piece will continue on with this new schedule regardless. I would love it if we were given 13 episodes every month - that would be way beyond my wildest dreams. -

I wouldn't mind if it was less time. Say, in between arcs they take 3-4 months off and dub a movie or two. That would be great; best of both worlds. My issue (and I think everyone elses') isn't that they paused the dub, but that they paused it for almost two years.

I'm literally in the same boat as you: small business owner and (early phases) beginning to plan a wedding. Hah. I just keep this tab open on my phone 24/7, hence why I post here so damn much. Lordy, it's surprising to look at my "join date" for AP. This account used to be someone else's, but I took it over like a year in because this site wouldn't let me register with my AOL address–and it's been only me since.
I would love it if we were given 13 episodes every month - that would be way beyond my wildest dreams.
My fiance keeps telling me to keep expectations low, but I don't see this as unreasonable. If they released 13 episodes every other month with one team, there's no reason not to suspect they can release 13 episodes every 1-1.5 months with two teams. Now the only question is, when are they going to start?

I remember watching the 4Kids dub when it first premiered on FoxBox, or whatever it used to be called. Don't remember exactly when I started coming to AP to chat about it all.
-

With what Clint Bickham said, it seems as though they have at least two ADR directors with different actors recording for the episodes, and with more recording happening simultaneously, that means double the recording time. Also, these will be mixed and put straight up on Funimation Now, with no DVD release holding them back. Obviously, they will release them, but not immediately.
-

Yep, that’d be me. Stoked that the dub is coming back. I will for sure watch it on Funimation Now and buy the home video release, I’ve always been a strong supporter.
-
I cant wait to hear matt mercer return as law
Especially that thing he says at the end of PH
-
Another thing we didn’t mention: in addition to DBS being on break, Fairy Tail just ended. So they’ve suddenly got plenty of time to tackle OP.
My confusion is that people keep saying DBS will return soon, but Wikipedia says it ended in 2018. Could someone clarify for me? Obviously, I don’t watch or keep up with that show.

They are talking about a sequal series or a continuation of Super.
Super had a terrible production line that just made the show difficult to work on, from wht people said they were able to fix that with the Broly movie and since then people are just waiting till its announced with a new artstyle like Broly.
Though considering people were saying it be announced multiple times this year and nothing happened, I would wait till there is an official announcement.
The only thing that is confirmed atm is that there is a Dragon Ball movie in the works

There is a rumor that the Dragon Ball Super anime could be returning soon to cover the current arc in the manga. Because recently Toei announced that the current Gegege No Kitaro (It's the show that took over Dragon Ball Super's time slot in Japan) anime have entered it's final arc. For right now, just take this as an rumor.
-
So they’re waiting for a show to be dubbed that hasn’t even been announced yet? Hm. Here’s hoping OP gets a lot of attention before this comes about.
-
Pretty much that. As much I like enjoy Dragon Ball, It's One Piece time to have some spotlight for it's anniversary.
-
I’m betting that they will release the PH episodes a week or so after Stampede.
-
@Long:
I cant wait to hear matt mercer return as law
I also am excited to hear more from Mercer's rendition of Law, one is because it is a pretty unique interpretation when putting it aside with Kamiya's performance and secondly I just feel like we didn't get enough of him as this character, Stampede and Episode of Sabo aside.
From what I remember Punk Hazard had decent pacing and was pretty good animation wise, so I am looking forward to revisiting those episodes, Dressrosa however is a different story…
-
Mercer is probably, for me, the voice that is most perfect for the character in the entire dub. He sounds so exactly how I have in my head.
PH has pretty slow pacing, especially in this first set, but yeah, it’s certainly better pacing than Dressrosa. Just a lot of running with children in tow. My favorite thing about PH is the set of characters. Smoker, Cesar, and Law with a dash of DoFlamingo. Plus Vergo, Momo, and Kinemon.
You know what’s amazing, regards pacing? I was flipping through all the episodes on Funimation Now and remembered that Alabasta was only about 40 episodes. That’s as long as Punk Hazard, though I always think of Alabasta as being a much longer arc. Guess the chapter to episode ratio was double or more back then, so it was literally half as long as it would’ve been if made today. Man, I wish One Pace did the dub.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The one piece banner on funimation now says, “New dubbed episodes will be arriving soon. In the meantime, keep up with the straw hats with a new subbed episode every Saturday.” Yeah, I’m definitely betting on early to mid November for these to drop. Definitely this year.
-

With the filler included? Holy crap, that is amazing.
Ya know, I do think that there are parts of the manga that have the potential to be expanded and as Wano shown us that is something that could work well, but man I do miss the days where the anime was just able to adapt 2 chapters without worrying about how to keep the manga ahead of schedule.
@Zephray:Man, I wish One Pace did the dub.
I was thinking about the same thing.
speaking as someone that does editing, it would probably be pretty annoying for the arcs that have already been finished, but they could do it pretty easily for arcs that have yet to be touched like Alabasta(layering both sub and dub sound channels on top of each other and then releasing them seperatly), but it's up to them, they're already doing a lot for this community using free time so I can totally understand why they would want to discard the Dub for the bigger picture.
-

My dreams have come true. Thank you! Now I have a less abrasive way to rewatch. I'd never trade up the originals, but if I ever want to go back and rewatch an arc, this'll be what I do it with. …in fact, I think I'll start watching Sabaody with this soon. Fiance needs a refresher on the supernovas before we plunge into the next few arcs.

Oh this is wonderful! I have a new person I need to get into One Piece and we were gonna watch the DVDs Dubbed till we hit Thriller Bark and then switch to One Pace but this would be so much easier overall!

Right? I’m trying to get more people to watch it, and this’ll be a good tool. I think I can just buy a large USB and stick all these episodes on it to move between the TVs. Easy peasy.

I have already made a One Pace dub of all of Enies Lobby to Fishman Island. It has visual edits and uses the 5.1 audio to replace soundtracks and make more seamless edits. Not sure how I should share.

The other guy used google drive and torrenting. I watched a few minutes of his stuff, and his edits are far from seamless. Within two minutes there were two instances of Luffy talking while his mouth was open. So, uh, great to have but not the best editing.
