Huh…
! Well, at least it's new. Perhaps this will be Bright done right?
! Oh, and it's got Chris Pratt in it, because what isn't he in these days? Also, looks like this will be Julia Louis-Dreyfus's second Pixar film.

Toy story works for me because they always managed to make the story seems like a interesting lesson about the toys and not just a feel good movie. This movie seems like it will be competent but I'm really not convince I will come out of it thinking it added a meaningful chapter to the growth of the toys.
It seems like more the type of sequel I would like for the incredibles than toy story.
I'm not sold on Onward. The original setting seems a more interesting world to me. I'm getting life of pets vibe from this one. Boring setting slight distinction.
Onward trailer coming tonight, but first, some pics:

Ummm . . . WHAT is this movie exactly?
Chris Pratt and Tom Holland as Elves, basically.
! There are some clever and funny gags there, but I don't think a movie is necessary for that.
Tom Holland and Chris Pratt? Were they just on the Avengers set and got them to come over?
…I realize that for the next ten years almost any two actors you put together in any film will have been in Avengers, so nevermind. Tom Holland is going to be working with former co-stars his entire career.
So, could they just not get Jack Black for the Jack Black role, or did they not want to be stepping on Kung Fu Panda?
You won Robby. You won so hard. I cant believe Onward, which I had a LOT of faith on, is going to be this shitty.
Eh, I'm not feeling this movie. I wasn't even feeling the idea before visuals came out, but now I feel purely ambivalent. The character designs and setting have a very… mediocre/bad direct-to-DVD animated movie feel to them. Like, say... Planet 51. That's not good. Not good at all.
It also reminds me of The Good Dinosaur, in how it takes a type of creature and into a modern human culture as the big hook but in reality is boring because the premise feels redundant.
Monsters Inc. can technically classify as having that kind of premise too, but the difference is that it incorporates a quirky twist on how monsters operate in scaring as a profession, which allows it to be both a real life parallel and its own unique quirky thing. Basically, it has kooky fun with its premise in a creative way. Same with Toy Story literally being about toys and the obligations/feelings toys can have. Or a superhero family having to hide their powers to blend in with society until also becoming actual costumed superheroes publicly.
Rather than just making monsters act exactly like humans in an urban setting as if the monster aspect is just window dressing, and then calling it a day. And blue humans with pointy ears and sometimes long noses compared to other Pixar movies featuring non-human characters look so ridiculously bland.
I could be wrong. There can still be a great story, especially once Disney/Pixar trailers are hardly ever good. But... I'm still struggling to see what's the point of the elf angle aside from unfunny cheesy gags (although I can admit the unicorns acting like rodents was a little funny). Why can't this be about humans aside from an art-style/design preference?
I just saw the Onward Trailer. I think it could be neat. I like that unicorns are like raccoons lol. Also without actually seeing Chris Pratt I would have thought it was Jack Black lol.
I'm just glad we're getting what seems to be an overall new story. Not a sequel/prequel. Not a rendition of a fairy tail. Not something based off a toy franchise.
You won Robby. You won so hard. I cant believe Onward, which I had a LOT of faith on, is going to be this shitty.
I won what?
Regardles, I wouldn't write it off just yet. Pixar first trailers are almost ALWAYS bad. Even if what we see there seems pretty dull and uninspired in terms of design and identity. Actual trailers with actual scenes might be fine and interesting.
It could be the next Shrek for all we know. And yes, that WOULD be a good thing. Shrek 1 and 2 were both great, regardless of how badly the later entries and overexposure tarnished it all.
I remember Frozen having initial negative reactions like those.
Yes, I always try to give a movie the benefit of the doubt, because trailers don't always ensure what the movie itself is going to be like. Even really good trailers don't mean the movie will be good. coughsuicidesquadcough
Even factoring in the "Pixar trailers suck" effect, this just leaves me so very cold. I've seen asshole unicorns, gnomes as rodents, fantasy kingdoms with Starbucks in countless series, but more than the tired premise, I just feel so incredibly starved from some sincerity. For a story that can pull off Unicorns and Elves without being sarcastic about it. I mean, "Fantasy with modern trappings through a post-modern cynical lens" is basically Shrek. We've come full circle.
Amen my friend amen. I KNEW I shouldnt have put it past Scanlon to do this shit. I was really moved by his story of his dad's voice…
The one time Pixar needs to be ripping off moderately obscure '80s movies and they instead go down the same tired modern route for fantasy films.
The only thing I really liked about the trailer is they used "Magic" by The Cars. I loved that song as a kid.
Trailer was eh, but I bet the jokes were good enough for kids. I don't think we saw anything outside of the first ten minutes of the film though, so I'll give it a second chance.
I admit I giggled when I saw the early morning jogger was a centaur.
Toy story embargo is up. And it seems people like it.

58 reviews in and still at 100%. Whelp, okay then I guess the track record is intact.
(1 and 2 both had a100%, and 3 "only" got 98%, but it also had 300+ reviewers and three or four guys who didn't even like the franchise or premise wrecked the score.)
Unless reviews are positively glowing, 99%-100% positive RT score like the others, TS4 will be a hard pass for me in the theaters. I don't wanna support pure money grabs when they already ended it perfectly.
Whelp. Take that February me, guess I'm seeing it. Even if the commercials have done nothing for me and I'm just not feeling it.
Wow, Pixar managed.
I was in it for Key and Peele, but I guess everybody's doing their part. I DO hope Bonnies toys get more screentime.
80 reviews and still at 100%.
Well, Pixar's quality has gotten pretty dodgy lately, but when it comes to Toy Story it seems they don't mess around.
Damn, I didn't necessarily expect this film to be a total disaster, but certainly a drop down in quality from the other three. I would've expected a rating around 85% or something, but the fact that it's at 100% just like its predecessors despite the high expectations generated by the original trilogy and the natural disdain for a seemingly unnecessary sequel - that's quite impressive. I'm very pleasantly surprised
Getting into the Toy Story mood for the weekend, I had a thought: What are your guys favorite Toy Story short film? I think mine has to be Partysaurus Rex. The bathtub toys are just too fun.
To remind, the shorts/short films are:
Hawaiian Vacation
Small Fry
Partysaurus Rex
Toy Story of Terror
Toy Story that Time Forgot
119 positive reviews, and one guy spoils spoils it.
Looking at his track record he hate all comic book movies and musicals and basically anything fun so… good for him?
He writes for the New York Post and National Review, which should say everything you need to know.
Get in the damn robot toy Woody.

Definitely Time Forgot. I loved the 80's ness of the whole dinosaur toyline. (Complete with theme song!) I also dug that it focused on one of Bonnie's toys and also the way that kids are foregoing toys for videogames.

I'd say Toy Story of Terror. It's a fun little adventure and some nice continuity-based drama with Jessie. Hawaiian Vacation, Small Fry, and Partysaurus Rex are cute for what they are, and Toy Story that Time Forgot is brought down a bit by the fact that it mainly focuses on just Rex and Trixie.
Oh, and thanks for bringing up Partysaurus Rex. Until yesterday, I didn't even know it existed.
Wow, you didn't? I guess it only played with Finding Nemo 3D, but it was made available to watch for a while (I think).
Here;s a question. Do Wreck it Ralph characters have sentience the same way and reasons the Toys do?
Cause Ralph had the whole thing where major media franchises (namely princesses) are alive and sentient in the internet, but…
I just watched Wreck It Ralph 2 and was wondering that as well. But that universe is weird cause the Serge protector is sentient. But he's not a game character. He's a physical piece of hardware.

Ralph get depressed and try to change job in the first movie. They are sentient and the characters they play are their day job.
My guess is that Robby is asking if there are multiple Ralphs or Vanelope.
My guess is that Robby is asking if there are multiple Ralphs or Vanelope.
Oooooh!!!
There should be one in each arcade since in the first movie the bar only collects from their specific arcade. So there could a Ralph that loves being a villain. There's also definitely a Vanelope that's a normal princess(since her personlity comes from being an outcast) and without superpowers(from her glitch).
Pretty consistent with Toy story where there's multiple Buzz.
Oh, okay Pixar. So we're going full Ingmar Bergman now?
Pete Doctor is directing.
The cosmic realms? What, so are stars the characters now?

Then you gotta consider that there's a Sugar Rush community out there that's doomed to be scrapped because some bidder troll decided to jack up the price of a stupid wheel…

No, I wasn't asking if they were sentient, that's obvious. I asked if they had sentience the same WAY the toys do. As in whatever magical force gives them life and awareness.
If those universes are connected. And what the overall implications of all that might be.
Because between that and the internet adventure and all the toys in the world, well…
But then yeah, it does get weirder with things like the Disney Princesses. Because Ralph's game stuff makes it just their job... but all their princess stuff seems to be their actual history? But not? Are they the sole reps of those versions or... yeah, are there thousands of each Princess running around? And....
the whole thing wasn't really thought through.

I hope not. I find the modern need to connect and explain everthing annoying.
They are alive like cats or dogs are alive. And they are seperate things. Like Aliens and Terminator are both scifi yet seperate. Move along.

There's also been Robocop versus Teminator so…
I feel bad for Dark Horse; outside of the first two films, pretty much everything good to come out of the Aliens franchise has came from them and now Disney has bought pretty much every licensed property that they published. Actually, now that I think about it, that applies to any of the three franchises in that comic even down to the first two films being the only good parts.
Anyway, Dark Horse is pretty much dead now; Hellboy probably won't recover from that last movie as a franchise any time soon and even Usagi Yojimbo has moved over to IDW.
Yeah I don't understand what happened to Dark Horse. They were basically the number 4 company for ages and had lots of good licenses and titles but they've been letting everything go the last while. What the heck is going on there?
If you don't know.. Who's number 3?
If you don't know.. Who's number 3?
Valliant.
Made by a bunch of artist in the 90s if I remembrer right.

I think they also made a proper Predator vs aliens(and green lantern/aliens). Dark Horse should make more crossovers. They tend to have good atmosphere.
I was more thinking we let each world have their own rules and don't try to fit them into each other. Except for fun out of canon adventures. Like the 90s crossovers between DC and Marvel.
Dark Horse losing the license to Star Wars as their bread and butter maybe hurt them?
If you don't know.. Who's number 3?
Marvel-DC-Image. The guys that do Spawn and Savage Dragon and Invincible and Walking Dead and the like. They've been the number 3 for ages.
Valliant.

LOL, no, not Valliant. They were a little big way back but they were never a real force.
Dark Horse losing the license to Star Wars as their bread and butter maybe hurt them?
Certainly, but it shouldn't have single handedly crippled and killed the company as it seems to have done. Unless those just sold waaaaay better than I thought and really were their backbone all this time. I thought they were way more diversified than that.
