A dimension Z Cap would be great, but Winter Soldier was excellent and still the second best MCU movie to me, after Infinity Wars. I think stories about Cap adapting to the present would be more interesting if episodic.
Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs

Just rewatched the first Avengers Movie for the millonth time today, god that movie never gets old for me
-
Nothing really showed.
-
Probably not getting a real trailer until Captain Marvel drops, but I liked what we got. Glad they're focusing on post-snap life before diving into the Thanos stuff. It's crazy Marvel isn't taking full advance. So many TV shows or limited series they could do in this time period.

I thought MovieBob left the Escapist.
The Escapist seemed to realize siding with GamerGate was losing them views and decided to "restructure." Part of that restructuring was getting MovieBob back.
-
I thought MovieBob left the Escapist.
He did but the people that were in charge that caused everyone to leave, left themselves, and the new management invited Bob back. He's been there for a couple months, but he's still doing stuff for his own site and Geek.com. Basically needs to do two movie reviews and editorials a week now between all the sites, and his own long form essay stuff is other.

Captain Marvel has a website. You have to see it.
https://www.marvel.com/captainmarvel
! Very nice. But not as good as the Space Jam site that is somehow still up.

Bwahahaha! That's fabulous.

Scroll to the end for feels.

Nothing new news-wise, but this was too funny.
-
Watching the DC movies (batman, superman, wonderwoman, etc) I thought that Marvel nailed it where DC didn't: sense of humor.
-
The Marvel sense of humor is getting dumber by the movie. And at the expense of the drama. Can't upset the little kids.
-
Yep, it is getting super stale, formulaic and can ruin serious scenes at this point.
And the worst part is, it is infecting other franchises.
-

As long as the infection means multiple heroes teaming up in a movie I'm all in for this. Marvel did it for the first time in cinema history and I'm most grateful. This is what everyone wanted since both mediums comics and movies existed.
Stale.. pfff
-
it seems Brie Larson's awful phrase delivery is gonna be the running joke thrughout the Captain Marvel movie.

Infecting them with the typical brand of humor.

Lol I can't stand people sometimes, if a Marvel movie is too serious like Age of Ultron or Infinity war people complain that comic book movies are supposed to be fun, pop adventures
but if they go the opposite direction and have lots of comedy, it's to silly and forcing humor on us
seriously who ever coined the term "you can't please everyone" had no idea how right they were
granted there can be a healthy medium but everyone's opinion on what that is wildly differs
-
Avengers or the first Iron Man is probably where the best "healthy medium" is.
-
Not really sure exactly what part of the MCU is inspiring this discussion. I can agree that Phase 3 has tried to increase the humor level but I haven't noticed any specific trends beyond that. Thor 3 went all in and pulled it off pretty well. Guardians 2 went all in and was hit and miss. Infinity War struck a really nice balance especially considering its scale. Homecoming and Black Panther's humor was mostly average but didn't detract from the strong themes/villains. Ant-Man & Wasp was mainly light comedy and didn't really strike a chord with me. Don't recall Civil War and Doctor Strange having significant humorous content. So I wouldn't really say Marvel is going down this long road of making everything more lighthearted, it really depends on the series and the creator.
Love the Captain Marvel website, especially the Skrull game. Really bad at it though…

But didn't you like Aquaman's totally original approach to wittyness? It was soooo awesome and the director totally not hiding behind Marvel as a way to mask his lack of direction and identity.

Comic book movies can be whatever they want to be. Comic books can reinvent themselves as much as they like, go into whatever direction they want. A comic book movie does that and oh lordy!
My issue (one of) is this: when thousands of people's lives are at risk, often millions - quite recently billions, perhaps it's not the type for silly humor, no? When your people are being slaughtered and your home planet being destroyed, perhaps it's not the time to crank up some rock music and have Thor crack some heads? I know that's not an example of humor but that shit just gets to me.
And that's why I love Winter Soldier. Given the overall situation and Steve's inner turmoil regarding his best friend, I would find it off putting if their fight somehow ended up in a Toys R' Us. Ant Man and the Wasp though, that was fun. Infinity War, not so much.
-

I haven‘t seen Aquaman yet. Last movie I actually watched in theaters was infinity war.

Social Media reactions are out for Captain Marvel and it's looking like they like it.
The Villain Talos is getting particular love here too which makes me happy. Marvel's weak spot has typically been poor villains.
I am SO FREAKING EXCITED!!
Carol is probably my favorite Marvel character (Wolverine tho… she's up there too...)
So I am SUUUUUUUUUUUUUPER excited for this freaking movie. I already have my Alamo Drafthouse tickets. -
Well, I don't know about what is typical or not (since I guess that depends also on the concrete site of the planet you are living in). To me it's simply this way: I feel much more conection with a hero that can laugh about himself, like for instance Peter Quill or even with a spontaneus string of nonsenses like Drax's ones, that what I feel when I see the allmight chin of Superman or listen the dark voice of Batman. But that's just me. There's no true here to impose to anyone.
-
Also, these movies aren't about the inmense pain of a horrible tragedy (except civil war and endgame) but about moraly gray people punching their moraly dark mirror self until they stop doing bad things.

See this is the problem though, a few weeks ago we were talking about Winter Soldier and people here were saying it's to stale and boring….. opinions just don't always match up, I guess that's why we have fourms to discuss and debate these things but all I'm trying to say is you'll never please everyone (like how you and me love Winter Soldier and other people here don't)
Rotten Tomatoes is pretty much were I decide if something is good or not, if it's below 60 it's usually bad if it's 60's it's fun but not something really worth re watching 70's is a fun movie with some replayability and 80's and 90's are usually what I love/want see multiple times in theaters and go to buy on DVD when they come out
not always the case ( I didn't like Logan) but usually pretty accurate (for me)
-
I haven‘t seen Aquaman yet. Last movie I actually watched in theaters was infinity war.
Then get out to the theater to see Into the Spiderverse….if its still playing by you.

Winter Soldier is one of my top 3 favorite comic book movies of all time.
HIGH FIVE!

Nah, I am gonna catch up on Aquaman, Bumblebee, Into the Spider-Verse etc. when they are out on digital platforms.

Must've missed that WS discussion.
Personally I've always been a bigger fan of comic book films that are a movie first, and a comic book movie second. Which is why I love Spider-Man 2, and feel so-so about Homecoming (which is 50% oh my gosh isn't being spider cool yo?). And X-men 2. Winter Soldier has a few silly comic moments for sure, but for the most part it's just a simple thriller.
Most of MCU films will be forgotten in the decades to come. As a package it's a great achievement. Individually it's too manufactured.
HIGH FIVE!
HIGH FIVE YOURSELF!
-
I do want to see it (if only not to miss anything before Endgame although i didn't see Thor 2/3, Black Panther, etc.) but I really wish it came out at a earlier time. I liked having the different MCU paths come together against Thanos.
Here it feels "no the good guys lost, how do we get out of this?" -> introduce hero in waking hour right BEFORE the movie where Thanos loses -
So the MCU is now two Oscars up on the DCEU, apparently. The Academy is feckin' weird.
-
Soooo ummm why is the Rotten Tomatoes "want to see" ranking so low for Captain Marvel?
-
Because the jackasses who don't want to see a female super hero are voting on it.
-
People suck! They get so worked up over a little diversity and act like it's an attack on there existence if they add even a few minority's or female characters,
-
Soooo ummm why is the Rotten Tomatoes "want to see" ranking so low for Captain Marvel?
Petulant manbabies that are afraid of women.
-
I mean, forget the obvious dark path of having a female main lead, what's the point in even having one if she's not even as t h i c c as Spider-Man?
-
BS, Wonder Woman is praised all over the world, Captain Marvel might get a bad reception due to simply being a not-that-good-of-a-movie, nothing to do with a female lead.
btw, I suppose we're getting the usual suuuuper spoiling trailer of EndGame right before the release of Captian Marvel worldwide?, I expect more or less the same as it happened with Black Panther/Infinity War

it's well deserved, Black Panther's soundtracks and outfits are pretty sick tho.

Alita Battle Angel is at 94% as well.

The complains that I've heard are:
"Brie Larson isn't smiling enoug"
"Captain Marvel is a man hater"
Those are the colorful comments that keep poping up, I won't go near the source of that.

Hell, the Alita review boost seems linked to this.

So weird that in one of these sub articles, they call the "organzation in food wars intended to controll all facets of food production" the facist foodies, the reading is clearly communist foodies. But that's for my other fixation.

Rotten Shillmatoes, sponsored by Disney.

The complains that I've heard are:
"Captain Marvel is a man hater"
Where in all of the trailers does she come off as a man hater?
-
Where in all of the trailers does she come off as a man hater?
In all of the marketing surrounding it?
-
In what way? She is abrasive as an "alien", but how is that a man hater? Human/Skrull hater but how is that portrayed in the trailers?
The old lady represents fragile masculinity?
-
I don't care, I just pointed out where the hate might come from. All I care about is if the actual movie is good or not by the end of it. I am tired of articles praising this movie as second coming of jesus nonstop, as well as the other side bashing it. Simply tired.
-
BS, Wonder Woman is praised all over the world,
I see you've already forgotten about the hate brigade that was out for that movie. Lots of petulant manbabies hated on that before it was out. There were lots of news stories. The one I most prominently remember was "Men are outraged Alamo drafthouse has a single 'all women" showing of the film and do asshole stuff in response". NORMAL people were fine with that movie, but the manbaby crowd threw huge fits about it.
ANd Ghostbusters before that. You STILL get new hottakes on people hating that movie when the rest of the world long since moved on. Oh, and death threats to one of the actors. That's nice.
Oh, and Star Wars having a black stormtrooper and a girl that is totally a mary sue, that's worth a boycot… and Last Jedi is even worse, lets send more death threats, this time to the woman in charge of Lucasfilm.
This isn't new.
-
as for GhostBusters, Remakes are oftenly hated just for the sake of being remakes, no need to throw all of the haters into the 'Anti-Females' bag, while noicy they were all still a minority, most people gave it a shot, the movie still sucked and that's what really matters.
For Wonder Woman, same, some joined in the hating train just because Gal is a Jew, a dirty-palestinian-killing Jew, so it can easily be seen from there, the kind of idiots we're talking about. The movie rocked so much, and that's what matters again.
Captain Marvel's case is also not special, many people aren't waiting for it, many people don't even know is coming out, many weren't convinced enough by trailers and won't take their time to watch it, and that hardly has anything to do with the main character's sexuality.
Personally, I'd blame on Marvel for having over 20 Superhero movies out there and just a couple of them being remarkable.
its actual release could go very very well, or very very bad, and there would be many factors for it than cheap excuses like, 'three people hate woman leads out of Three Millions who liked it', but those three people ruined the movie's success!!
com' on. -
Should I bring Mad Max: Fury Road in this discussion?
