However the new movie will be themed, you can be sure, that Luffy is gonna yell the movie's main villain's Name at some Point in the movie.

A person who knows their stuff.
-
hope his name is Francis
-
What if this time the villiian does not have a name?
Then Luffy will invent a nickname for them.
-
This post is deleted!

Then I'd bet in "noun of object the villain wears" with the suffix -yaro.

Pointy hat grandma is poised to be one of the final challenges

The visual-style of the movie is a taste-Thing. Movie 6's was really "different", but really not my taste when it Comes to OP. But from that movie on, I understood why Sanji calls Zoro "Marimo".
As Long as there are enough cameos in the new movie, it won't be too disappointing. Z had a lot of marines, Gold had Rob Lucci in it. But what I liked the most was chapter 0 for Strong World.
You saw such a lot of People by the time Roger died. And Hacchan was a child back then! We have been even shown Duval and Bellemere. I loved it! -
I want a "bad future" one piece movie. Like the second gintama animated movie, or those parts of back to the future.

Lets see future strawhats and there kids
-
No, the it's a wonderful Life one piece version, with what happens if ussop dies with the crew.
-
No when Sanji dies from a nose bleed.
-
Is that the Italian Jewish family, or the one where the dude wishes that he didn't exist? The Spanish name of both is too close.
-
I'd watch a One Piece slice of life movie. Straw Hats hanging out doing relatively mundane things on a relaxed civilian island while waiting for the log to change. No big threat, no non-Straw Hats showing up. Just doing their thing and chatting up the locals. Lots of comfy atmosphere. I can dream right.

Does anyone know if you can buy an English dub of the One Piece movies somewhere???
or if not, is there some online streaming service that might have them (legal ones like netflix/hulu/amazon prime)

Only the later films have been dubbed, or are even released in the states for that matter. The Alabasta retelling movie, and then Strong World and everything past that.
The first 7 or 8 films you have to get other ways.
I think this is because by the time Funimation got the rights away from 4Kids, the crew was already at a certain point and releasing the smaller less successful films missing half the crew didn't make marketing sense, compared to building off the hype the actual japanese production was putting into the latest releases.
Maybe someday they'll backtrack and do the rest, but OP isn't a big huge title for them despite its Japanese success.

Are any of the first 8 movies Good? I've seen you guys say 6 is great, is 6 really that fun? cause I might check it out if it's as good as you guys suggest
And if it wasn't for those meddling Four Kids, One Piece would be waaaay more popular abroad
-
6 isn't fun.
It's different.
It's a very different take on One Piece and that's why I personally love it. I wish films were more exploratory like this but we will never get anything like it again, which is a shame because there's a lot that can be improved upon.
-

7 and 8 evolve around Drumm and Alabasta (iirc). The former even made a what-if Scenario with Franky and Robin (iirc) already in the Crew during the drumm arc. And it sported another villain (Wapol's brother). The other is the alabasta arc squeezed into approx. 90 minutes. Well, not all of Alabasta. It starts with Mr. 2 being saved by the SHs and then Switches to the Meeting at spider's cafe iirc. IDK if it left Ace out. My last watch was Long ago.
But I honestly don't know which is which. Or is the 7th movie the one about the cursed sword? Then 8 and 9 are the movies I spoke about. Sorry for this confusion!
I also kinda liked the 4th movie "Death Race". The main villain Gasparde gets treated exactly like Croc (both Logia, both with a certain weakness to it).
You get to see giants and fishman (but only for very short amount of time) and they even made a Connection to the Navarone filler-arc. While filler, this arc at least managed to let every SH shine for a Moment. Many filler episodes fail on that. -
Are any of the first 8 movies Good?
Eh, they're typical anime tie in movies. If you've seen a pokemon or a dragonball or naruto movie, you get the gist. Its the anime staff doing a self contained filler adventure that has to set up and resolve everything in about an hour, generally showcasing the lead's newest powerups but sort of shortchanging the side cast.
They're fine if you just want more One Piece, but you don't need to actively hunt them down. The later ones Oda had an active part in so they have more energy, more design, more music all in line with Oda (and quasi-canon) so they're stronger in general.
And movie 6 isn't great for the sake of being great in it's own right, it's great for being different, there's a big distinction there. Different art, different tone, different director style, I've only watched it once but it was a neat experience.
-
People were talking about movie 6 all the time here and it's got many fans. I also like movie 4.
-
Movie 6 is good on it's own right.
There's of course the contrast to the main series, which ends up stirring strong feelings on OP fans, but it holds on its own. You could show it as a quirky anime movie to non-fans of the series, imo.
Maybe it lacks a couple of scenes explaining the back lore, like devil fruits or where the StrawHats came from exactly, but it's structurally sound.I also enjoyed the first two movies since they're East Blue/Early Grand Line and I tend to enjoy a nice beggining, when you know enough of a world to not be totally lost but not enough to expect anything in particular. Also, since the crew was smaller it felt more manageable, every member got their time to shine easily.
Is movie 4 the one with the race? That was a nice romp too since it was a simple and fun premisse. -
Does anyone know if you can buy an English dub of the One Piece movies somewhere???
You can't legally stream the movies but you can buy them from these retailers
Amazon: Movie 8, Strong World, Film Z, Film Gold
Funimation: Movie 8, Strong World, Film Z, Film Gold
RightStuf: Movie 8, Strong World, Film Z, Film Gold -
Thanks for the responses guys!!!
I'm gonna try and get Strong World, Film Z and Film Gold

Greg can you tell us what sort of Japanese folklore will most likely be introduced this arc
I know you said something about the legend of Momotaro, and I've seen people post stuff about orochi vs susanoo and shuten douji etc.
just wondering which myths and legends we should expect to see in the Wano arc
-
Urghmm… Where's Greg-san when we need him?
-
#life atm.
OP rulz. Talk soon.
-
-
Greg, three things
1. Can you give us your interpretation on the prophecy?
2. Do you think Shuten maru is real, now that they said law was the one who stole the food? and if he is real, do you think he is a yokai king like Shuten-dōji in Japanese folklore?
3. What other myths and legends from folklore or Shintoism do you think will be present in the Wano arc? -
Anything with the new chapter Greg?
-
Cavendish was his origin story (nothing about Hakuba)
Barto was messing with Shank's territory
Sai was about the impact of his marriage not going through, and that Kano is going to the reverie (how Kano has a pirate fleet and is a WG member is a mistery)
What's his name (Long arm and long leg dudes) was about.. racial tensions of the long limb tibes? IDK. I'll read it again soon.
Leo was about getting prepared to be Riku's bodyguards at the reverie
Hardjuin (sp?) is about introducing the giant pirates, as they are like 5 of them total, and we know 2, and from Big Mom's flashbacks, we might know a few more.
And Orlombus, who is such a blank slate that is just a mistery.
We might get a freebie with Belamie, he is not part of the fleet but got a member card.Just going to bump this. Trying to find who started the "Four emperors on Elbaf" line of thought. Can't remember if it was I, maxterdexter, or someone else.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I guess it doesn't matter, but there was an idea of Big Mom clashing with Kaido when the SH get to Wano, then it evolved into neutral, for now Big Mom, then when it was obvious she would survive her arc, it became Big Mom/Shanks for Elbaf - Kaido/Blackbeard for Wano, but Blackbeard can't jump and scream surprise at every island.
Then the 3 emperors at Elbaf started with Count Mario, who cut of Big Black Hole writting a way longer post about it, then Greg supported, then I escalated.
@Count:
The Fate of the emperors, click the link
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
While totally possible, I very much believe it has to to with VoAT and Momo's criznazy CoO and that he has actually met them through their voices like Roger knew how to carve those characters.
I should get back to work, but I'm having fun doing the timewarp.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Well, I also got tons of things wrong, and turns out my english gets pretty bad sometimes.
I should re-read what I write more often.

Greg the most common idea from 920 is that tama and hitetsu where the princess and 5th retainer. Where do you stand on that, and do you like that idea?
-
While I could accept Hitetsu being another retainer, Tama the princess? That is just conservation of detail at work. Like the shortest road possible.
Without sarcasm in the question, has Oda done anything like this? "Oh, we are looking for this misterious person, and there is this unasuming person here" kind of deal. Blackbeard being Blackbeard I guess. There is Mr2 but I think that we as the audience knew that he was Bonclay when the crew meet him. Rebecca/Kyros/Riku/Riki/TheBronzeStatue, with a surprise Violet there.
-
That would be very… dull of Oda IMO. And I don't think it explains her interactions with Kiku either, unless I missed something. And the idea that Kiku couldn't recognize her seems pretty weak.
Also I don't really see the point? If Tama was a character introduced ages ago, then such a reveal would feel pretty meaningful. Like how Bonney for example seems to have another identity after all this time. But Tama is someone we just got introduced to, so it just kind of feels whatever at this point.
-
I'm convinced the mystery retainer is Hitetsu based on the pudgy body, pointy noise, and kasa hat of the silhouette (he now lives in Amigasa village, a not-very-subtle hint). As for Tama, my hunch says she's Momo's niece, meaning Hitetsu and Hiyori did not time-travel and aged naturally.
-
Sorry for the leave of absence. Like I said, some #life issues going on and things aren't back to normal yet but I will be starting a somewhat normal daily routine again soon.
Right, so One Piece.
Lots to say. Lots to be excited about. Not the least of which is…well...we'll talk about THAT later :-D
In the meantime, OUR LUFFY FIGURE RELEASES TODAY!!!
And tomorrow is the release of One Piece Magazine 4 which I DEFINITELY suggest you get your hands on.
1. Can you give us your interpretation on the prophecy?
Luffy and the gang gonna eff shiz up.
3. What other myths and legends from folklore or Shintoism do you think will be present in the Wano arc?
Right now I'm wondering if some of the gents loyal to Kozuki are loosely based on the Shichifukujin. There are sooooooooo many references to movies though.
Greg the most common idea from 920 is that tama and hitetsu where the princess and 5th retainer. Where do you stand on that, and do you like that idea?
There's nothing I dislike about the notion aside from that it seems like the easiest answer. I might be slightly more satisfied if Okiku was Hiyori or something but the Otama link makes a good deal of sense albeit the issues raised above.
-
Greg there also the idea that the missing retainer is the person we saw back in chapter 631.
-
Now that Usopp got monstruous Obvervation haki, Nami got Zeus and Sanji its raid suit. its for guaranteed Zoro wil be upgrading at least one of his swords, but if the rest get upgrades too, what kind could Robin, Franky, Chopper and Brook get from Wano?
-

I have always had the idea that every member in the Pirate King's crew should have some form of haki, besides that and just for fun:
Robin: Awakening, converting buildings and nature around her into her limbs. Her final form is turning a mountain into herself. Or just armament haki.
Franky: Further updates after meeting Vegapunk.
Chopper: Armament Haki, full coated body.
Brooke: Conqueror's Haki. -

That's probably Yohki.

I'm not sure whether or not Franky needs an upgrade in Wano. We've seen very little of what he can do in combination with his mech when push comes to shove so plenty of room for expansion there later. I totally welcome any upgrade though!
As for Robin, we don't know half of what that lady can do and we haven't seen her in a serious battle since the skip yet (well….since Thriller Bark actually -_-) so she could be Awakened already or have an ability we don't know about yet.
Chopper I'd like to see him utilize his forms rather than just having them. Would like to see some CoA there but he seems like a CoA and CoO hybrid.
As for Brook, I think he's ripe for an upgrade, not that he needs one but it just kinda seems to flow well that a character -by design- connected to the 'other side' would have some sort of growth in a land that literally believes in that same 'other side'.
-

would love to see the references listed when the arc is over, honestly can't wait for the next chapters, the wait for each weeks feels like an eternity though lol

Yohki seems pretty probably, but don't the saki cups imply that it's one of Crocus' former crewmates? That with the Wano-ish attire make it more complicated, but it would be an interesting story if it were Yohki.

Sake could mean anything. Even Roger and WB shared sake. Basically all it tells us is, these two knew each other and are old friends.

So you don't think its Shiki like many do?
-
Props to you Greg-senpai, you were the first guy I heard/read to say that Kaido will have a dragon DF. And even when people shift to the Oni df after Kaido full body reveal, you stick to your idea.
Respect -
So you don't think its Shiki like many do?
I think Shiki got used for the movie, and as a result Oda's never going to use him in the main story proper.
The movie isn't quite canon, but Oda still wrote it, so…

Doesn't this guy looks like he's based on the fat one of the Shichifukujin?
Also how can Tama be Momo's sister? She was there four years ago. Why would her mother send her to a separate time, all alone? And going by Tenguyama's explanation to Luffy, he said "she could live somewhere else but she's staying here (in that village) because she's waiting for someone". She just happened to stay with Tenguyama, not because they both have history with the Kozuki clan.
-
Didn't most think the guy with crocus is scooper gaban since they have similar hair?
