Part 7 is no shit the part with the best writing.
Also the best villain.

Shame about spin though.
Yeah, definitely continue on.
The parts of Jojo are already largely self-contained stories. Sure they build a little off of the continuity and lore and often feature characters from previous parts, but they are always pretty distinct stories told in the same universe. The only major difference between parts 1-6 and everything afterwards is that the later parts don't directly share characters with the earlier ones.
! I'm not really a fan of this universe reset either. I get it was Araki's way of shaking up the series to REALLY expand on what he can do, but it's just sad all the Jojos we had come to love get erased from the annuals of time, after years of suffering against Dio, Dio-related, or different bad guys.
! :(
yeah, look: if it really bothers you, you should consider dropping it alltogether (but don't do it) since it's going to stay, with slight variations maybe, for the next 25 years of jojo serialization ahead of you (DiU started serialization on Jump in the early 90s). Considering that the only parts that didn't have it were 1 and 2, which are also the shortest, and early part 7 ,which at the time wasn't even officialy jojo's, you could well say this is the Jojo format. Bizarre people with bizarre powers who costantly end up in bizarre situations, sometimes justified by a very thin plot and very little care for coherence.
Each part is a really fun, really wild run, but not exactly shakespeare, and that's kind of the deal ;)
I think the greatest thing it can be said in JoJo's credit is how it manages to be immensely loved by its fans not because they turn a blind eye to its defects, but they are all completely aware of those and always acknowledge them… and still love it regardless (and sometimes even because of it). There is definitely something special about JJBA.
... not you, Jojolion. Get out!

! Well, ultimately that happened because the Joestar family failed to defeat Dio's legacy in the shape of Pucci and Made in Heaven. It is sad, but it is fair since you can see it as the result of them losing.
! Besides, it is exactly the same as if we never got stories about them ever again, wich didn't happen as we got the game with purple flavored Dio and more Rohan chapters.
Nah, it is a minor issue for me. The other users already told me about the whole "stand of the week" thing getting more apparent once part 3 start. I know what to expect. I just wanted to point it out. lol
Most of the fights are genuinely good & keep me going. Even if there isn't much plot but it works in favour of part 3.Whilst I enjoy the fights in Part 3, I can't say the same for Part 4. I did fast forward a lot of the fights & jumped straight to the conclusion of the fight in Part 4. I got up till episode 26 & jumped to the final battle with the main villain of Part 4. I didn't care at all about the supporting characters in Part 4 so it was difficult to keep my interest on plotlines unrelated to the main villain. I even got bored of the main villain because it took forever to catch him. Though his defeat & death was poetic justice. Part 4 was most or less 'supernatural town with a huge secret/murderer' type of story. I seen too many of this type (& it's favourite kind of story, it really need to stand out to get my interest).
In fairness, it's not Araki's fault since it was published way early on than most of those show I like. The funny thing about me possibility of dropping the series…
I got spoiled on the ending of Part 6 which makes me genuinely not continue on to part 7. I will still check out Part 5.! I HATE universe get reset/alternative timeline type of ending. Personally, it ranks in the worst kind of ending along with 'it was just a dream' ending. I will drop any series that has this kind of ending without a single hesitation.
I have investment in the original Joestar family. Even if the main character of the part changes, it still linked back to Part 1.
But since the universe reset at the end of Part 6, the Joestar family are not the same one anymore.
I also heard Part 7 & Part 8 follow separate timeline so yeah…I guess I'm getting off this ride.
This is understandable, I absolutely loathe part 6 for reasons along the lines of your spoiler text. I was reading it weekly at the time and dropped JoJo altogether over how much I hated part 6. Somehow I was convinced to pick up part 7 part of the way through and I am glad I gave Araki another chance. Steel Ball Run and JoJolion are both fantastic and are basically an entire new manga series just done by the same author (originally SBR was not even titled as being part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure).
I suggest in your case watching/reading part 5 as the "end" and skipping to Steel Ball Run with the mindset that it is a brand new story by the same author. Like how Indiana Jones was created by George Lucas but has nothing to do with Star Wars.
Thanks for the advice everyone on whether to continue on the series. I'm not trying to hate on Araki or anything. I accept that the series may not be to my liking.
I will probably pick up part 7 (since it is highly praised) after I finish watching Part 5.
I'm also a bit burn out after binging Part 1-4 in one go.
So I will take it slow and easy this time around.
Skipping Part 6 is also fucked up because you miss out Girl Jail Squad vs. The Racially Ambiguous Priest.
I'm generally not a fan of stories taking place in prison.
It's a shame though since
! Jolyne is the only female Jojo & generally a badass. But knowing how it end really damper my mood to continue. If Part 6 anime comes out in 2019/2020, I will check it out though.
Prison, reset, stand of the week. You are already disliking it like 20 volumes before you even get to it, so it's probably better to avoid it anyways.
Regardless, as for the discussion about the reset, is not really a reset,
! it is a flashforward. The adventures of the previous parts were not erased, Jonathan, Joseph, Jotaro, etc. still existed, Pucci didn't created a whole new universe, he simply accelerated the time on existing one to a point it started a new cycle. It is not an alternate reality or anything like that, it is just the future, everything that happened until that point still happened in the past.
despite pucci being a catholic(?) priest, his plan is actually pretty hindu in execution, he just puts the world in its next cycle rather than "resets" it, it's the next world, not a new one
Part 6 gets a lot of hate but I liked it a lot. And it has one of my favorite Jojo characters.
! Foo Fighters It's also got some of the most bizarre stands in the series.

! I figured he was more a priest of Dio rather than a Catholic priest.
In a BIZARRE way I think the ending of Part 6 actually has a happy ending. Major Part 6 spoilers
! The time cycle shenanigans all get sorted out but through baseball kid being saved he foils Pucci's plans and ends up with the protagonists living happily albeit there are slight changes. I also figure that they DO defeat the curse of Dio in Part 6. That's why their all enjoying themselves and getting along. Shame for sport boy though who is the only one with all the memories. But besides that I think it's not as depressing as others think
Also Jolyne is IMO the Best Female Protagonist in Shonen Anime. Might be a bold claim but I'm sticking to it.
Part 6 had some of the wierdest events
! Green baby? Magic incantations and ribcages? Riding a dolphin to escape the resetting of the world? The fact that the main villain wasnt evil? The fact that dios sons were magically at the right place at the right time? Absorbing the green baby to get new powers?.
! It had other weird stuff but the other things were just classic jojo bizareness
! I'm not really a fan of this universe reset either. Hey although it's not Canon and has some weird parts at least we have Eyes Of Heaven.
I like Part 6, Jolyne is my favorite Jojo after Joseph, I like many of the characters in this arc, but if there is one thing I dislike about it is the art style. I can't tell exactly what it is, but it is the only part I don't like the art. And when you mix that with the most bizarre events in JJBA history, Stone Ocean ends up having moments that genuinely gross me out (and before someone thinks this is one of those times I say something apparently negative as a good thing, there isn't a speck of compliment in what I just said). The snail part and the tree-men with teeth popping out or their once-mouths are the first to come to my mind.
donatello is hot af tho
Riding a dolphin to escape the resetting of the world?
Sometimes I need someone to lay down Jojo events in simple terms for me to realize how completely absurd they are. I'm tearing up right now.
Part 6 is the greatest part just because Mickey, Snoopy, Kenshiro and Raoh wrecked havoc in the world.

Also, small nitpick but I wish Araki didn't reuse the Josuke name. Kinda overshadows the one in part 4.

The names are spelled differently in japanese. the "jo" character differs between the two. Think of it more like having a character named Steven and another named Stefan

Or, to use the example I deal with often, Steven and Stephen.

i mean, yeah if you wanna use a better example then sure
Thanks to you I finally realized that Esteban is Steven's spanish version.
Esteban Universo y las Gemas de Cristal.
¡Escuchame, Esteban! Tu eres tu mamá
Ayways, I am among those who hate the fact we have two JoJo called Josuke. I know they are technically different names since written differently in japanese, but still…
i guess that's a good way of looking at it.
So we have Jonathan, Joseph, Jotaro, Josuke4, Giorno, Jolyne, Johnny, Josuke8, and Gappy???
A lot of people call part 8 Josuke Gappy because he has that gap in his teeth.
i guess that's a good way of looking at it.

Gappy is a nickname for part 8 Josuke to just differentiate him more from part 4 Josuke.

oh. Are there just 8 Jojos or is there a 9th I'm missing?
There's only 8 parts and one Jojo per part, so yeah, only 8. Well there's the dad in part 1 (I think his name was George), George Joestar (Joseph's dad) and probably others but only 8 protagonists, one per part.
Don't forget Joji Joestar and the 36 Kars on Mars

Araki's really throwing some hardcore shit at us now.
First grade body horror coming from the guy that has already drawn Jack the Ripper jumping out of a horse and a guy throwing up razor blades. In the name of Lord Dio Araki stop watching so much terror movies.
And what a creepy stand. The doctor will se you know has taken a turn for the worst.
so Doctor Wu's stand is like Steely Dan, but…. himself
that's funky. Can't wait to see what Mitsuba does
That is also my reaction when rocks start climbing into of my underwear.
So I finally gave in and continued with the manga (Giorno GioGio).
I guess it's been a while for you long time readers, but how was that season received back then?
Hard to say back then. Part 5 started off with horrible scans back then, so not well. Plus, Giorno's not exactly the most interesting Gioey Giogio either, but his crew more or less carry the part
It's a Japanese favorite though
The perception of the English-speaking fanbase is a bit negative due to bad scans, but I think it is a really strong part. It has some of my favourite fights in the series (Aerosmith, Beach Boy and Grateful Dead, White Album, Metallica) and the main crew is really fun. It is one of the most popular parts in Japan, I remember its characters being cheered on the most back when ASB came out.
It's weird since Part 4 still had a good fanbase here and its scans were strictly Duwang until pretty recently.
Part 5 was always looked down on somewhat for being more like Part 3, but with a worse protag. The better quality scans have helped to bring out the best in its fights (which are pretty much the thing people like post about part 5), and helped clarify some of the more confusing moments, but I think a lot of the western reaction back then wasn't too far off from what it is now.
those old Part 5 scans having shitty translation doesn't mean Giorno wasn't always bland.
If anything, the newer, more accurate translations have elevated other members of the cast while revealing Giorno to really be that bad
I still get a kick out of part 5, but the scan/old translation argument doesn't hold water for GioGio
Glad it's not just me who thought part 5 was lacking. I was afraid that I just ruined the experience by reading the manga (instead of waiting for the really good anime). But yeah, it has really high up and downs and some of the gang members were saving it all.
! What saddens me the most is that the Dio bloodline thing had no relevance at all. Totally pointless reveal, unless it's setup for future seasons. Which may very well be the case, but for now it still feels like a massive waste.
Anyway, now that I powered through part 5 I can finally start with female Jojo, who is already 20 times more interesting than the last 2 Jojos. Also women's prison always works!

Nope, no major relevance at all! It's basically just a way to introduce/explain his more brutal moments, because a life on the streets could do that for everyone else in the gang but not him, I guess.
The old Part 5 scans are a special kind of magic; where Duwang got the story across accurately but with awful grammar and spelling, the Part 5 scans had good spelling but atrocious actual translation.
Best moment: When the Passione Pose reaches Venice, the old scans call it Vienna and proceed to label the map of Venice with places that are in or near Vienna.

I know there are a lot of baffling changes like that, but how many of them actually altered the core reading experience?
Apparently Crunchyroll will gift a sub to the person who can correctly guess the ending theme of Vento Aureo. Probably not gonna get it this week, but oh well: I just hope it is in the spirit of the late 90s/early 00s.
My hopes for Prince are low for obvious reasons, but I would be fine with any pop song really. Backstreet Boys, Mr President, Eros Ramazotti, Coolio, you name it. King Crimson would be awesome, but so far the ending theme was always chosen from the era in which the respective part played in.

Enough to require a reread once actual scans were available, at least. I remember parts of the train fight and especially the final confrontation being really hard to follow.
Mambo Italiano I hope lol. Not super current I just like that song a lot.
What time does Golden Wind actually airs in Japan? I know it's airing today (according to my timezone) but I can't make sense of the timeslot from the promo.
Around 1AM in Japan on Saturday (technically Sunday).
Did I watch the episode at work?
Yes, yes I did.
Jojo Friday's are back. Best after birthday present ever.
I'm conflicted on how it looks. It generally looks pretty good but, similarly with all the other parts, the coloring looks weird to me. The shadows on people's faces for instance look too dark or something. Everything contrasts too much.
! I kind of wish they removed some stuff that's retconned later, like Giorno's power to reflect attacks that hit animals/plants that he makes. I imagine they're going to keep the time slow that affects Bruno in the next episode too. I usually advocate for really close adaptations but stuff like that that never shows up again should be changed as it just introduces confusion for the people watching the series that haven't read the manga.
