Who is the mystery person that they teased to appear here?

Namie Amuro.
Also looks like a new movie next summer.
-
Well, this was awful. Though seeing how involved Inoue was makes me hype for his episodes to come.
-
missed most of it but the stream quality was so poor I couldn't make out any animators except lots of lovely eisaku inoue art.
they skipped a lot in the final fight sadly.
Can't wait to watch it 1080p.

Since Skypiea is one of my favourite arcs, I was really excited for this upcoming special. Sadly this was pretty underwhelming, in a lot of aspects.
Not quiet sure what I expected, though. Trying to squeez the whole arc into a 100min special, well…
-
Yeesh how is it the Episode of Merry could fit in near all the battle of Enies Lobby and the getaway but this one pretty much just cut out a good majority of the climax.

What's up with the girl in the Hope Opening recreation, who is that supposed to be? The singer of the song?
I'm confused by the purpose of that. The Ace Vs BB recreation during that part was also unnecessary and off topic albeit very well done.

it's Namie Amuro, who sing One Piece opening at recent anime (title "Hope").
Soon she will retired from entertainment world. That's short special animation about One Piece x Namie Amuro. cmiiw -
they cut pretty much all the fight and reused clips from the old anime. pretty disappointing.

I thought I was crazy when I thought I saw footage from the anime, G fucking G Toei.

I really wish they'd stop making these "Episode of" Specials. They always suck. Seems like they only exist for AMV fodder. They waste time, and valuable resources away from the show which looked awful all summer. and the specials themselves almost always suck. I still havent completed Episode of East Blue because it was fucking pointless.
You really cant take these long-ass arcs and make something of them in this short-hand. Storytelling. Besides, they NEVER did part 2 to episode of Sabo either. Which is how I think they should do these specials. make them in 2 parts.
Regardless, I loved 3D2Y because it was something new and refresshing. And the art direction was my personal cup of tea. I Liked Heart of Gold because it wasnt restrained by a pre-existing storyline outside of it's connection to Tesero. If they're gonna make a special they need to make it have it's own self-contained story.

And now that I finished watching it i think im gonna go..... do something with my life. Never before have I been THIS unfufilled by a piece of One Piece property, but WHOOO BOY they found a way. Skypiea works as a character story. Half the characters were removed, and their motivations were axed, or rushed through, so the entire thing comes off as an inferior recap that steals 15 minutes of footage from 2004. And our cool new ending song? It's Hope, a song that in just over a month is a year old, and will (probably) be replaced from the show. And what was the deal with Ace V.S. Blackbeard, anyway?
So, I would love to thank GOD for ODA. Most franchises when they get this old just start banking on how cool the franchise Used to be. ODA on the other hand just makes new shit and ties old plots together naturally. So we get fanservice (Such as the revirie with all of Luffy's royal harem meeting eachother) But it plays more like a natural event than fanservice - because it's a well established natural event... so established we saw it when Vivi was a child. Meanwhile the anime staff for the better part of 7 years is all like:
GUYS! ACE!! REMEMBER ACE!? ACE WAS COOL!!!!!!! ACE VS BLACKBEARD!! COME ON GUYS ACE!!! LOOK AT ACE!!! OMG FIRE FIST ACEEE!!!
Ok, I get it, he's popular, but what the hell was he doing in the ending, just for us to randomly cut back to Amuro and the Strawhats?
By about 20 minutes i found myself just skipping through…. Same with last year's special.
3/10

Yikes, can't say I was fond of this special.
Extremely underwhelming on a whole, even from a visual department. I think it speaks wonders of this special that the big climax was not only better directed in the anime, but way better animated.
-
Hey Nami…Zoro...you ok?

lmfao
Thanks, Toei.

This is by far the worst summary special ever produced. They took 105 minutes and used it to tell no story, develop any characters, build any sort of world or bother to animate any decent action. I don't even…
-
I was really looking forward to this, specifically the flashback. There were parts I enjoyed, but reusing the old animation and moving the position of the flashback to where it was did not work for me. Also the credits not being Eneru's cover story was a mistake.
That all being said, the way they changed things and moved plots around was admirable. Cutting Blackbeard, Bellamy, McKinley, and Pagaya makes sense, but cutting Wiper vs Eneru and Chopper vs Gedatsu was not cool. There were way too many reaction shots in general. I liked how they moved Satori to the beach, that was well done I thought. Interesting how they basically cut out Aisa and it really made no difference on the plot

I wouldn't call this a waste of time, but it's such a poor showing compared to the original. Episode of Skypiea was about average when it should have been great.
Granted, I've should have seen this coming. Attempting to condense Jaya and Skypiea into an hour and forty-four minutes is a disservice to the source material. Probably the biggest offense is reusing the Noland/Kalgara scenes from the anime. It was simply jarring.I did enjoy seeing Cricket again, the Knockup Stream ride, Ganfall vs Shura, and Luffy vs Eneru. But the removal of Bellamy makes the Jaya portion lack the ideological conflict between romanticism and cynicism, which is the heart of the story.
At least I can take solace in knowing that this was a low-priority project, which means that Luffy vs Katakuri will have the resources and time it needs to look good. -
This anime is improved over the years and every time we are surprised with something new. The world of Lufi is becoming more extensive, right?
-
Amuro in the end looks like a frickin alien.
All I had to do was waltz into photoshop, rotate her eyes so that they are on the same line as her ears, and widen her mouth.
! >
It was such a quick and simple edit, and should have been done before, when the drawing still looked like this on the computer screen. but not only did they not correct such a simple anatomy mistake (that went between different departments entirely, so SOMEBODY should have noticed,) they managed to put color gradients on this shit in post. YEESH!

I would call this a severe downgrade over the previous incarnation of this arc. Yeah theres some nice character acting sakuga here, and there but the pacing is horrid, the plot is nonsensical without important players being there, and they didnt even animate like 20 minutes of the damn thing - oh and reused character splash art from We Go. Really felt like the Staff phoned it in here - which sucks because it really could have benefitted the main show during the chase in the forest from July to not be bogged down by AWFUL Art and pacing. I dont like the idea of staff beingSiphoned off for nonsense like this superfluous special
-
The ending animation was originally used in Namie Amuro's concert earlier this year (ap member posted a video), not sure if it had the Ace vs Blackbeard stuff.
I don't have time to watch this special but did it have much bad animation? It's much better to watch reused animation than brand new shots that suck. Maybe things will change for the DVD.
-
I know they had to cut some stuff but holy shit it was so bad. Why not make it quality in two part fors 3 hour / 3.5 hour special and then sell it on blurays too at the end? So much skipped stuff about fights and no feels at all.
-
So it was a dud huh. Hopefully Episode of Goat Island will be higher quality.
-
Yeah, I agree that this is the most disappointing OP property I’ve seen yet. It was a giant clip show.
Before, I didn’t mind these recap specials, but now I’m vehemently against them. Id much prefer they give the budget/animation/art attention to the main series or make an entirely filler special like Heart of Gold.

That was a fun watch, thanks!
Didn't she retire? I thought I'd heard that… -

I wonder where the Ace vs Blackbeard scene shown during the credits originated from? It may have been animated solely for the special…. but it's quite outta context, a lot of everything else was recycled too, soooo.....
