There is a stage that I can't place, that is before New Donk City and in Luigi's trailer, with some grass and handrails. I'd say is the roof of the building in New Donk City but I'm not sure.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'll check latter, but is the arts and craft Yoshi stage new? The one that kinda looks like his old ones but made of cardboard.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I think that Ganondorf's attacks are exactly the same hitboxes, but now with his greatsword.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
They changed Snake's franchise symbol, from the kojima fox to a "!".
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I don't remember how big Kirby's insane with everything stage was, I have to check if it has a castle zone, as King Dedede was in something like that.

Was about to finish my list, but the wiki beat me to the punch, here:

(they don't have new donk as confirmed)

Invitational Tournament is about to start
-
Since they listen to the community, local tournament mode is on again hopefully.
-
!
Nice touch.
-
That scene chilled me, lol. And then, Tanuki ridley changed the game, again.
-
Well shit Young Link is back where he belongs.
-
Someone, somewhere said "weight and height". I just rolled my eyes and moved on. Sorry King Cannon.
Sorry, I meant to say that Echo Fighters have the same moveset as their original source. Dr. Mario has a different Down B, Pichu has its own unique mechanic and Young Link has some moves that original Link doesn't have anymore, and that Toon Link doesn't have either (not to mention that Young Link and Toon Link have extremely different models, and clones are meant to be model reusable, as that's the whole reason they exist).
Lucina, Dark Pit and Daisy all use the same moves as Marth, Pit and Peach, with at best slightly different properties like knockback angle or multi-hit instead of single. They may have different stats and animations, but are otherwise 100% clones.
-
Dunno who the anime character is, but I PKLove this change.
-
Duster assist trophy maybe then?
Of course I'd love Duster character, but doubtful unless they do it alongside a Mother 3 port.
-
For Ness' Final Smash I figured they left out Jeff because he can't use PSI, but maybe it's just because they wanted to keep his assist trophy. In the case of Mother 3 Boney can't use PSI but then again neither can any other playable character besides Kumatora right?
-
Duster's influence is on the snake rope and Lucas' moveset depending on more kicks than Ness'.
But yeah, only Lucas and Kumatora can use PSI, but I'd guess that he's just channeling MP or something.
They have the full party of Mother 2, the design team wouldn't be so cruel to leave Duster in.. the… dust..
-
That Boney is just too full of secrets.
-
Character (stock) icons
That's satisfyingly symmetrical, but there's actually 68 counting the Miis and Squirtle/Ivysaur/Charizard
-
Just came from Nintendo NY and I got to view the Direct from there and also got to play Smash Ultimate. Gameplay feels like a perfect blend of Melee and Smash 4, although Ridley wasn't in the demo I played, I just played as Sonic and Snake.
-
…Snake's in Smash? Time to buy a Switch.
Duster assist trophy maybe then?
Of course I'd love Duster character, but doubtful unless they do it alongside a Mother 3 port.
This is pretty much my guess, and I'm really hoping it's the case. I personally don't see him becoming a fighter, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.
But what do I know, the days of logically predicting who'd be in Smash are gone. Bayonetta I could kinda see, but I never saw Cloud coming.
Or Snake and Sonic, for that matter. As much as I wanted Snake in Smash, I pretty much gave up hope after the whole Konami stuff.I like some of the adjustments they've made to the fighting mechanics (more damage for 1-on-1), although I don't know what to make of the shielding spam punish. It's not terribly punishing, but I dunno. Maybe I just shield too much?
As hyped as I am for Smash, I'm still skeptical for the online matches, I just don't have confidence that they can reduce the input lag.

I haven't analyzed the videos much yet, so did Snake have the same moveset as in Brawl, as far as you could tell? And was his forward Smash still op? :P

I watched the tourney and from what I could tell it's pretty much the same with the same imposing attacks. Only difference is he only gets one, more powerful, shot during his final smash.

Snake is the same guy as he was in Brawl, moves and all. I was super rusty with him so you have me trying to readjust to his playstyle lol.

Xander Mobus will be returning as the announcer for smash ultimate
-
I know for sure that I'm planning to get both Snake and Daisy (Smash version, I already got the Mario series version of Daisy) amiibos when they come out.
-
Dixie Kong echo fighter. I want it yesterday Sakurai, if you can put Daisy in you can put Dixie.
Now we finally got Ridley the next fight is DKC representation.
With guns and a jetpack O.o ?

Neat.
Although, this raises the question of how much audio will be recycled from Smash 4. In that game, while new voicework WAS recorded, there was recycling in Mario, Luigi, Pikachu, etc.
Here we at least know new work was recorded for Marth, Ike, presumably Roy and Lucina(?), I'll assume Link and Zelda too, and maybe Ganon as well. Probably Young Link too, since Roy's VA recorded new lines for Sm4sh.
Also, I have no idea why Cloud wasn't voiced by Steve Burton last game. (while Ryu WAS dubbed??) -
With guns and a jetpack O.o ?
She has a gun in tropical freeze already. The jetpack is more of a stretch but it could easily be remodeled to look like the jetbarrel stages from returns and tropical freeze.
My thinking is mostly that a huge counter for Dixie is being too similar to Diddy, and this presents an opportunity to open the gate for her while also leaving room for K. Rool as a standalone character.

It's awesome to have Ridley to be playable in Smash Bros :D
-
oh shit
Alph wasn't shown as an echo fighter???–- Update From New Post Merge ---
And yep, watching some treehouse footage, Takeshi Nagasako has new voice clips for Ganon
-
I've wished Ganondorf had a completely new moveset for every game since Melee, but otherwise, it's hard to find anything to complain about. I'm not going to buy a switch for this game, but I'm definitely going to find some way to play it like I always do before I get my Switch for 2019 Pokemon.
-
and yep, Zelda has a new VA too.
-
It hasn't even been 24 hours, but I can't believe Ridley is fucking dead already.
-
Ah. Well obviously that's going to make a world of difference.
If it's like the other swaps, it might. Same moveset but mild differences could be the difference between a character you like and a character you love, sometimes the difference of one move can change everything. A move being vertical or diagonal instead of horizontal …. or closer range but more powerful. For instance, I like Falco way more than Fox, even though they're basically the same and Fox is probably the better of the two. I liked how Dark Pit played a little better than regular Pit. I don't like how Dr. Mario plays because the slight change in moves makes him meh. ANd of course, or some unforsaken reason, Ganon is a swap for Captain Falcon.
Hell, over in Street Fighter you have Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Dan, Akuma, Evil Ryu, etc. and they're all pretty different despite having ostensibly the same move set just with mild differences. (granted iteration over decades has slowly turned them into very different characters, but that wasn't always the case.)
Musou games have character swaps all the time where only one or two moves are diffent, but they make or break a character.
-
When I was playing as Sonic, I tried to pull off his Spin Dash cancel tech from Smash 4 but I couldn't seem to get it to work. I guess Sakurai tweaked how some of the characters play which is a shame since Sonic's tech worked well with mindgames.
-
What the everloving hell….
Oh my god... just... holy.... EVERY character?! Really?! DAISY?!?! RIDLEY?!?!
Hey, looks like Rey from Star Wars joined the roster.
But still just... whoa.... This is a lot to process.
Also, the game looks a LOT faster than Sm4sh. Looks like they're going for a middle ground between Sm4sh and Melee. Trying to bring the Melee4Ever crowd in? I mean, it won't work, but it's nice that you're trying Sakurai.
-
Now that I'm not at work and can process things much better
Everyone coming back is pretty hype. Even if it feels like it's at the cost of newcomers, I can't help but admit it feels nice seeing this roster, and it feels super robust. More than anything I'm excited that I see all my cut mains back, particularly Wolf and Ivysaur, the latter which I did NOT expect to see return at all.
Ridley finally happening brings to an end decades of the Ridley debates. It's weird that no longer will we see the "Ridley's too big" memes. Also, random thought… but I find it amusing that today's newcomers (Daisy, Ridley) are also the name of the Rey actress from star wars. They should invite her to invitationals now to duel Zelda Williams. The game in movement seems somewhat faster, though I still feel like it takes a looong time for deaths to happen. Something where the movement of characters sent flying seems to brake suddenly once the stream of smoke ends. This could go both ways where it could be casual-friendly in that you live longer, but at the same time it can be competitively interesting if the main way to really seal the deal involves actually knowing how to edge guard and properly reading your opponent's recovery. Little tidbits like the directional air dodge and the perfect shielding are also interesting.
Now, Inklings... they look interesting, though they don't really stand out to me as particularly friendly to any style. The ink mechanic is pretty strategic and their movement seems fast, but they seem very much like an all-around ok type of character. Also, no charger or splatling representation in the moveset? shame
Ridley also looks very not meta and difficult to use, particularly because, as many predicted he would, he seems very easy to juggle. But like with ganondorf and other low tier wonders, my instinct at the moment is to get good with him XD
I have no read on daisy whatsoever, but I sincerely hope that her taunt is "HI I'M DAISY". Otherwise, what's the point of adding her?So much more I have to digest, but overall I am super excited about this game. I seriously hope in the coming months they talk about single player content at some point, because honestly that's the missing link. Otherwise, in terms of competitive flair and options it seems pretty solid. How good the nintendo online service happens to be is another thing that can screw this game over. Now to begin the process of watching content ad nauseum.
Oh yea, I also seriously hope at one point they sell a poster of that roster art because it's gorgeous.
-
I am so low key hyped right now, is like "it is not perfect, it is not what I wanted (even if it kind of is, my mains back and the game on the switch, I didn't had too many demands this time), it was a surprise, and it is way more than good enough"
-
The game really feels worthy of being called ultimate. I hope they also go all out with the modes and manage to insert at least 4 new unique newcomers before launch.
Since the Switch is quite young, I kinda hope we'll get some kind of SFV like treatment with DLC characters, stages and modes added frequently for 1-2 years.
Like for example getting reps from the new Fire Emblem, Pokemon or Metroid Prime 4 whenever they're released in 2019.
-
Favorite moments of the presentation, as a presentation, not a game.
Ridley menacingly playing with Cappy.
"Most ambicious crossover in gaming history"
The "just kidding" moment in the first minute
Sakurai evil pause in the end of the trailer, after "we won't introduce many new characters"
The longass pause just before the release date, I flipped out and thougth for a second there that he was going to say "right now", as Hollow Knight and Fortnight were, even if the scale of the 3 games is completelly different.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I hope that that the strategy of the clones/echo fighters of not being even counted as characters work to quell detractors to the system.
My only issue with them right now is how they make single player content longer without adding depth or fun, but in a multiplayer mindset, they are welcome 100%.

I was wondering why Frigate Orpheon wasn't flipping! Thought it was just a change to the stage, but this is great news.
It seems like Sakurai really did listen to the fans this time around.
Except on Waluigi.
-
They have to leave something for smash 6
-
I just want to see the menu screen. Which singleplayer and multiplayer modes we get.
-
Also Alph IS in the game. Why he isn't formally an echo fighter, I dunno.
-
Also Alph IS in the game. Why he isn't formally an echo fighter, I dunno.
Because he's a costume, being an echo implies slight touches to the movesets (including a different final smash).
Just like all the gaunlet of koopalings, or the gender of avatar characters.
-
It's unlikely there will be a Smash 6 after this.
All this looks like a Farewell Gift from Sakurai.
-
@Mr:
.
Yeah that is not the point I am trying to make. Guess my wording was badly done but what I was trying to highlight is that these characters as assist trophies are ridiculous.Lol@ridiculous. The roster is ridiculously packed and Waluigi is a dumb creation. Bomberman would be a good addition, but I don’t see how anyone could even begin to complain about the fighter selection.
So we’re likely to get an ARMS character, right? Who is in yalls wishlist for the few remaining spots? I want Paper Mario, but I don’t anticipate ever getting him.
-
Simon Belmont, Bomberman and Megaman Zero (GBA version). More Megaman reps beyond that'd be swell, but I'd be pretty cool with that.
