It must be hard to keep pork in the Middle East.
There is actually no pork in the Middle-East.
I guess there is in Lebanon though -
I've been following the news casually about the volcanic eruptions in Hawaii over in the 2019 Weather thread (still haven't gotten to change the title to 2019 Weather & Natural Disaster) but the thread's been dead.
Lava is advancing towards a plant, the Puna Geothermal Venture, and its causing some worries of what will happen if lava hits some tanks. They are worried about threat of toxic plumes of gas

Wow… funny how back in 80s/90s, the kids couldn't get out of the parents' house fast enough. Heck my sister moved out when she was 16. Then turn of the century and its cheaper to wait to move out, and its more common for kids to wait until 25. In either case, if the kid refused to move out, parents wouldn't take him to court, they'd simply move his stuff to the curb and change the locks.
I remember a few friends who pushed their parents too much and got kicked out. It wasn't a request "its time to move out" it was the classic move that earned the term "kicked out".

If white skin doesn't equal being white then how a person considered white
Plenty of Greeks look the same as Iranians, but then I don't know how you guys consider yourselves.
Either way in the US historically it really meant a sort of class/cultural thing even if nobody realized this was what they were doing.
Remember the founding dominant culture in the US at the start was from England, so those people judged newcomers in relation to that.At first it would have been pretty much just English (and maybe Dutch and Scottish) that were "white" in that way.
Eventually anyone speaking Germanic languages from Protestant backgrounds were considered closer to "white".
And by now this has spread to basically all Europeans, regardless of religion and background. However even though plenty of Italians and Greeks can look identical to Arabs, Turks and Iranians? You guys are still on the outs in this regard, because Muslim.

I don't think anti-Irish racism in the US was from all the English ancestry here, though I mean… I do kinda wonder...
Mostly I think it was yes partly the Catholic thing, but also the general racism thing where the middle class demographics will look at grinding urban poverty and crime that a minority group is mired in... and conclude that surely the reason that minority is poor and violent is some inherent cultural/genetic inferiority. Same old story. -

In Iran there is racism between people because everyone in Iran isn't Persian(even if everyone have same race people want someway to feel superior) the least racism I heard were about Kurds the most were Afghans cause refugees and immigration problem people have but skin color is not relevant at all since I started talking to western people I realised weird talk about skin color which always raised the question of how is someone considered white since skin color doesn't count

What the fuck is wrong with you guys: NYTimes horrendous interview with the Arrested Development cast:
tl;dr - Jessica Walter relates Jeffrey Tambor's horrific behaviour to her, male cast members are assholes and try to downplay it, only Alia Shawkat's calling it out
-
Oh man, he's not gonna be a Freeman anymore.
-
^ Sexual Harassment isn't something you generally imprison someone for.
But if the allegations are true he would be free in the same way people like Mario Batali and Louis CK are i.e. not getting much work.
-
Fuck me. Not Freeman too.
It's really start to make me question, just who else?…
-
Noooooo, not Morgan Freeman. Who else is supposed to be God?
-
First Bill Cosby, now this?! Who is next, Samuel L. Jackson?

So, uh, some good news?
So George Takei may not be in as deep shit as we once thought: George Takei’s Accuser Has Changed His Story of Drugging and Assault

He's only accused of inappropriate behaviour. If they can't provide specifics, then it's a witch hunt.

….I read some of that article and I believe their were details mentioned.

Thanks, Pachy.
So, I looked over the story and there is apparently a LOT of incriminating details thrown against Morgan Freeman here. While I do take anything published on CNN with a grain of salt, I think there is plenty here that should at least warrant an investigation. I'll still give Freeman the benefit of the doubt here but I won't completely dismiss the allegations of his accusers either if there is probable cause.

Either eight separate people have a focused conspiracy against him, or maybe just maybe we should listen to people reporting abuse.

You give the accused the benefit of the doubt at one person. Once it's a whole bunch of people, they probably did in fact do something wrong and you should believe the multitude of people from different times and places accusing them. Give them beneit of the doubt at one person because people stalk celebrities and make crap up to try and get a payday, like what happened to George Takei, but once theres a lot, well….
I got really upset when the first accusation against Bill Cosby came out, you can see my breakdown in this thread (or the previous version, whenever it happened.) I didn't want to accept that the nice jolly guy of my childhood was a monster and declared loudly "why are we even talking about this? Why is this news?"
But then a whole bunch more women came forward and it sucks, but dude turned out to be completely awful.
I don't want to think ill of Morgan Freeman either, but it happens.
-
I'm pretty disgusted by this tbh, if you found the deceased to be mostly responsible then offer nothing. $4 is incredibly disrespectful.

Yeah. I read about that. Hell is too good for that jury.

A politician "Lady" (And I use that term to not say the b word) harrassed a transgender woman when she used the bathroom. This is fucking sickening. And illegal to boot.

We do listen. Unless specifics are provided to warrant an investigation, it would still come off as eight separate people with a focused conspiracy.

Morgan Freeman isn't Bill Cosby though.
Look, we do listen to the people reporting abuse. It's just that mere generalities aren't enough to lock up the accused and throw away the key. You gotta build your case here. For the record, I finished reading the CNN article that Pachylad put out and there are detailed accounts on Freeman's abuse on set. So, there is now considerable grounds for investigation. -

Is this a new one or the same one from (I think) a week ago? I remember something like that happening recently.

Sigh… I hope the lady who was harassed is okay. Must've been a scary and disturbing experience.

"My right to use my bathroom" is really at the top of bigotry next to their right to use their guns.
I wonder if there is such a controversy in other western countries -

Well seems the idiots vandalizing national parks are not restricted to USA.
In England=
Landmark from the Ice Age at Brimham Rocks destroyed by vandalsThe idiots even were stupid enough to write their names as graffiti into the rocks.
-
Fuckers. Those rocks would have eventually fallen, but it would have been nature that did it. Kinda like the Man in the Mountain in New Hampshire.
Kinda reminds me of when a trio of idiots from my high school drew swastikas all over a UU church in town because it had pride colors on its sign. And yet they were so easy to catch . . .

Typical Trudeau here. Also, it's very liberal (/capitalist) to do this

There are far worse things you can do than legalize cannabis. Like pull children away from their parents and keep them in what's essentially a juvenile detention center.

[h=1]Far-right Italy minister vows 'action' to expel thousands of Roma [/h]"Salvini is on record as having praised Benito Mussolini, the Italian fascist leader, and his new policy has sparked comparisons by the centre-left Democratic party to ethnic cleansing rules introducedin the late 1920s that also targeted the Roma."

"About 4,000 Roma live in state-sanctioned ghettos in Rome, according to a 2013 report by Amnesty International. These out-of-city ghettoes consist of pre-fabricated containers or mobile homes in fenced-off areas, often without adequate sanitation or clean drinking water. Inhabitants are excluded from other social housing despite many having lived in Italy for generations."

Hell, even in Canada there are indigenous villages without clean drinking water…
Still, this one is pretty horrible on the symbolic front because of the whole fascist past of the country. And the fact that people seem ok with it.
It's so fucking cliché, yet horrible.
