The Luffy vs. Katakuri fight has developed into one of the few pluses this arc now has for me. It's absolutely right that Oda protracts this fight and shows that Katakuri is no pushover. I get the "Luffy vs Lucci"-vibe from all this I had over ten years ago and even though the Enies Lobby climax wasn't that well executed compared to the Water 7 set-up, the fight with Lucchi has stuck with me ever since.
Chapter 892: Acknowledging a Strong Enemy

Considering the drawbacks I'm not sure why Chopper continue to bother user monster point.

Considering how small he is and Big Mom being on top of the giant fire ball I'm not sure how that helps. Monster Point don't jump as far as I know. I'm really under the impression that Chopper should either ditch it or only use to train in getting rid of the after effects.

He was essentially trying to goad Big Mom toward him, since he was really desperate

Not even close to Luffy vs Lucci to me. That train has left the station when it became clear Katakuri was completely superior in all fields. Lucci was little more skilled than Luffy, sure, but the fight went back and forth constantly, with Lucci being in real danger of losing couple of times (one of those was due to his own cockiness, but still).
Here, it's more like Luffy is taking damage until he can use limit break or something. He's collecting XP until he can unlock a new skill that can even the playing field a little. In turn, Katakuri is starting to look a little incompetent because he's unable to finish Luffy off even after all this time.
-
If that wound is real then why no coa used? It protected him from most of DD's string Attacks, yet this attack not only pierced his coa that easy but also took a piece of luffy out?
And why is it better to use this coo that made him take so much damage instead of coa that would limit the damage?

I'm guessing he isn't using coa because back in dressrosa we learned that coa has like a mana gauge and Luffy has shit for mana regen…..like ten minutes to fill back up wtf....it's like he should ditch g4 entirely and used it only to train until he gets rid of those side effects.

The fight and power level stuff may be right, but some people have complained that the fight is dragged out (which was also a complaint about Luffy vs. Lucchi back in the day), but for me it is a very good decision story-wise to have this thing going on as long as it gets. Just to clarify: It seems that Luffy will finally beat Katakuri, but to make this one of the hardest fights and one of the slowest to get a resolution is the right decision. Luffy may very well beat a Yonko commander here, but it is a good thing for the reader that this is not a simple task.
I agree though that the whole thing comes down to Luffy unlocking a new skill, which is how he defeated Doflamingo already and that this may not be the most creative way to finish it.
-
The fight started with anything you can do I can do better by Katakuri and it will end in the same manner it started, only Luffy will have imitated Katakuri and have surpassed him.

I know there's a song out there with those lyrics, like an old song and I can't put my finger on it!!!
Anyway, I agree that there has to be some 'mirroring' done with the defeat. That's one big theme in this fight.

I'm sure that Dranza referenced that song on purpose too lol.

THAT ONE!! thanks and now it's stuck in my head….
The pie bit totally got me XD

So will the cake really be handled in this way, with no Morgans, Stussy, Strawhats, or Vinsmokes to see it knock out big mom? Not only that but Bege is going to be the one to feed it to her.
-
Mogura is spinning like a grinder and Luffy just touching it with his body ended with Luffy getting burned and slightly grazed.
Last panel is showing burning effect imo.but the center is aligned in a way that it would only make sense if katakuri had a spear vs a trident.

All of katakuri's advantages are based on his CoO, he knows what luffy is doing so he can move faster, he knows what attack he's gonna throw so he has time to counter it.
891 he matched katakuri's frst attack but got hit with his follow up kick
In 892 at the end presumably he is seeing 2 steps into the future

Better alternatives are still illegal alternatives. Don't get so high and mighty when you're essentially stealing from the very series you come here to discuss
Yes, they are illegal (though I do pay for WSJA, and Crunchyroll) but there is still a bar of quality to be had here. If you place something on the public forum, be it a thought, or something you created, or a fan translation, regardless of it's price, low quality is still low-quality. And It's absurd to say that because it's a free fan translation means we cant mock it, or point out it's flaws. Thats now how the public forum of ideas works.

I just want Chopper to use a named attack in Monster Point. So far it's just been him rampaging. I'd love to see some of his old Arm Point attacks being used in Monster Point.

That's simply not true. Along with Observation advantage, Katakuri's devil fruit is a lot more versatile and allows him to have greater destructive capability. Not to mention his speed is nothing to sneer at, because, future sight or not, he would't be able to catch Luffy if he wasn't fast. Hard to say if he's faster or not considering what we've seen.
You know, I find myself REALLY missing the old days, with Luffy having to rely on his fast reflexes to dodge attacks, like with Crocodile, Blueno or Lucci, for example. Now it's all about Observation, on who can predict movements better. It's gotten to the point where Luffy has to wait for his Observation to level up, just so he could have a fighting chance. There's something so meta about it all.
-
And what if luffy didn’t get hit by katakuri spear, it’s just his observation haki power up letting him see the future now ….
-
@Kaido:
He was essentially trying to goad Big Mom toward him, since he was really desperate
I'm not sure how monster point help him do that tho. If he just want to be big he could just go arm point or whatever the musclely form is called. A form that last a short time and makes you useless doesn't seems like the right choice.
-

The outcomes of Monster Point were irrelevant considering Chopper was trying to do a desperate suicide attack. I don't think Arm Point would give him enough size to wrap his arms around Big Mom or enough weight to drag her into the ocean.
-
I am of the idea that Luffy will declare his Fishman Island its territory to Big Mom face to face and with Katakuri and Cracker defeated and the other achievements from the Straw Hats this would be Big News. So if that happens, wouldn't that compromise Fishman Island and be destroyed in the process.
-
Uhm, I am quite confused now… with the last two pages.. Is Luffy finally seeing his possible future like back with Mihawk or is he actually being torn apart..
Also, who might the woman in the last panel be? I don't recognize her silhouette.. -

That's dumb. If Monster Chopper got his arms around Big Mom, she would run that Kuma maneuver back and send his ass flying for three days and nights right back to his fat bird people island. Chopper's plan was bad and he should feel bad.
We were THIS close to reaching the Illegal Manga Singularity, with Mangastream having to wait for the official release this week >:-(
While it is hilarious to see people in the comments at Mangastream trying to hit Sanji with that #TimesUp logic, I agree he and his shenanigans did completely ruin what should've been a touching/heartfelt reunion. His first move should've been getting on his knees and apologizing to Nami, after having VERY violently rejected her and Luffy right to her face. Would it have killed him to have a genuine and sincere few seconds with her before launching into the nosebleeds?!
Also, now we're back to Sanji having a plan?! What is happening! Save us, Bellasario!!!
EDIT: -sama!

I have the nagging suspicion luffy is going to come through the mirror, eat some of the wedding cake and be revitalized.

There was and it involves (at least) Chrior and Kaido, but I think the condition is that Flambée shows up in more than 2 panels so it still holds
-
My sensors detect that Flampe will talk shit before shitting herself. That at least will be two panels.

Man, finally found out what that new girl's name is, Cinnamon. Hottest daughter of BM yet, IMO. Her next-eldest sister Citron's stretched-out face frame reminds me of someone but I can't remember who…one of Hancock's sisters comes to mind but I don't know if I'm mistaking one of them for someone else.
Luffy's belated reaction to having gotten shot in the leg strikes me as bizarre. It's like the pain didn't register with him until after the fact, but if that's the case he's got to be in such bad shape he either shouldn't be able to move at all, or he's in such great agony already that he ought to be screaming or at least groaning. It's that kind of thing that makes me think he's just having a Haki vision from the last few panels and this all is just what he's foreseeing and will avoid it. There's no reasonable way to have him walk away from having his trunk missing 10+% of its mass, especially so close to his vitalest of vital organs. Unless he's going to undergo an awakening of his DF which lets him stretch and replace his flesh somehow, this can't have been genuine. If Katakuri has to remark that Luffy's observation haki is improving at this kind of exponential rate, it stands to reason he could already have underestimated it overshadowing his.
I am wondering what Katakuri's reaction will be to finding out his sister interfered with his fight. Is he the sort who won't put up with that kind of thing, like it's insulting to his pride to accept unwanted help? Sure seems like he'd get pissed about that, like it's condescending to him thinking he needs any kind of assistance. You'd think the family would know better than that by now, especially his biggest fan. Katakuri might even be the one to repair the damage to Luffy if he finds out his victory came due to interference. Luffy's body will be part-mochi! LOL.
-
So… we are seeing Oven, huh.
And he is just fine. Not fighting anyone who appeared for a last minute rescue, not handling a fugitive Pound, he is already focused on something else.
I have to admit I'm finding it weird.
Other than that, I absolutely love the Tontatta pirate ship, but the chapter itself felt like a drag to me. At least the fighting part was interesting, since it ruined the fight as a 1x1 (Flambée managed to interfere with the fight and it had an immediate effect).
-
While I say Pound is alive, I never got the idea that someone would come and save him.
-
Pound's story was finished as soon as he ensured Chiffon's escape and Oven took him out. At least for now.
-
Pound's story should have ended the instant Big Mom popped out Lola and Chiffon.
Also wut @ people apparently thinking Flambpbpbpe wouldn't get more than 2 more panels. How was that conclusion reached.
-
wow, Luffy is losing only because Flambée helped Katakuri. It's a 2vs1 !

Has Katakuri done anything that makes him seem like the honorable type? He seems pragmatic enough to not have a problem with outside help, given that he stopped Luffy from using G4 once (he also tried to stop him the second time with raindrop mochi) before attempting to suffocate him with his awakening rather than win in a "fair" way so he could enjoy his doughnuts sooner.

Anyone know what the SFX in the Luffy drawings say/mean?
It could help us understand the sequence better. He could be surprised that he got shot.
Or he´s simply confused that he thinks he got shot but there´s no arrow.
Or maybe it´s a magical arrow shot by Flambe herself, special forces always means some hax fruit.I´m personally torn but more inclined towards it playing out in Luffy´s mind.
Also, even if that spear actually connected, it doesn´t have to mean it pierced Luffy´s body or that a large portion of his side is gone.
But I thought Pound was beheaded and now think this is not real…maybe I´m just weird.
-
wow, Luffy is losing only because Flambée helped Katakuri. It's a 2vs1 !
Maybe she helped luffy more then katakuri if luffy having to dodge Attacks from both her and katakuri is the thing that made luffy upgrade his coo fast, dealing with Attacks coming from 2 different directions.
And as long as that wound luffy got is not real, just future vision.
-

Are you expecting a fair fight between pirates?

Do you really think this will happen???? Do you think Oda will draw, two full panels, in excruciating detail this character losing all control of her bowels and shitting herself publicly? Is it genetic? Is a strict diet of sugary syrup and candy all day every day finally taking a toll on this girl's lower intestines? Please ask Oda I need to know

Why do you think her ass is so big? That's a volcano about ready to erupt.
-
Her chewing gum helps her with digestion, but once Katakuri is buried she'll stop chewing…and well you know the rest.
-
There was and it involves (at least) Chrior and Kaido, but I think the condition is that Flambée shows up in more than 2 panels so it still holds
Can't believe one of the panels was wasted like this. Now I'm just here thinking how long I will have to keep my future Flampe avatar. At least this single panel will make for a good avatar, it will be like Flampe is laughing at me, for taking this stupid bet.
This chapter… I really didn't like it much. To start with, Oda proved me wrong in a few regards, starting with... Smoothie is actually going to do something. I honestly thought that after so long being a laughing stock, he would just let her rest and stay off panel for the rest of the arc. But here we are. Here she is. Let's see if she can do more than Oven or Daifuku. But wait, what is this? Oven is back as well! Is he going to do something useful now? Stay tuned for next chapter.
Next point of surprise is... Big Mom is not eating the cake just yet. I did not expect her to eat it all right away this chapter but what is going on? Bege is taking it away from everyone? I've really liked this arc and I think it is one hell of an improvement over all we've had since the timeskip. But I was ready for it to end in the next ~9 chapters. Which would mean Big Mom eats the cake and Kata is defeated in the next ~3 chapters. But instead, Oda throws another curve ball and this just keeps going. Mom keeps pursuing the cake, but now in another ship. Straw Hats are still headed to Cacao Island, being pursued by BMP fleet. Luffy is still improving his CoO and fighting Katakuri. Flampe is still around. Really, I've liked the escape game, but I think it is overstaying its welcome.
And another complain is the ending. I found it a bit messy and hard to understand. I don't know if it was the intention, or if the translation being crap was to blame for it, but the amount of discussion surrounding it is proof that it wasn't clear. I will read it in the VIZ version and see what my reaction is then. Oh, and did I mention Flampe showed up again? Darn it.
-
I forgot to mention (and I don't know if someone brought it up before), but I thought it was really cool that the dilemma between letting BM eating the cake or not in Perospero's mind was entirely about the fate of the country and the crew. Not one single thought was given to "if I don't let her eat this cake, she is going to kill me".
Also, Sanji (or any of the SH) is not even going to be there when BM eats the cake? Now I'm even more inclined to think this cake is going to fail.
-
I can see the ending coming at 895 with them escaping Tottoland. 893 will keep setting up for 894-895 be the conclusion of Katakuri's and Big Mom's eating. Not sure where else will Oda want to expand upon.

I may be wrong, but when I read the chapter I thought the events were pretty clear. It was only when I saw all the discussion online that I thought the scene could be misleading.
Still, to me it seems pretty clear the panels show this:
- Bullet comes flying.
- Bullet hits Luffy's right leg. He reacts to it feeling pain ("ugh")
- Katakuri thoughts
- Luffy realizes something is wrong ("… huh...!?")
- Katakuri readies his attack, but something is wrong is Luffy (you can see distorted lines around his body showing he is trembling, plus another "huh...??")
- Katakuri about to attack.
- Luffy gets ready to dodge the attack.
- Something is wrong, though, and Luffy loses his balance
- Katakuri attack connects. Luffy's right leg seems swollen.
Basically the bullet had some anesthetic effect to it to make Luffy's body become numb.

Does this make Moscato the first non flashback character to die in the series?
