So, let's see, Tucker Carlson had a Congressman last night spouting the 4chan "VEGAS SHOOTER WAS ISIS WHO CAME THROUGH SOUTHERN BORDER" line and Hannity trying to get a Nunes memo pushed by Russian bots and Wikileaks released.
Fox News being far right of reality is one thing, but the reason there were no consequences for pushing the Seth Rich crap there is that they were getting ready to embrace the extreme right conspiratorial side. Buckle up.
-
The MSM coddled Fox News for two decades – even attacked Obama for being mean to them -- and now they act surprised it's a fake news channel.
-
Trump is currently in a one-on-one negotiation with Chuck Schumer and Republicans are PISSED that this is happening.
Sounds like he has some aides with him. Read: Stephen Miller.

Fresh dump from https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/2018/01/19/day-365/ with a little repetition:
The Senate is heading toward a showdown vote on spending legislation to keep the government open past midnight. Democrats appear ready to vote against the short-term spending bill in an effort to secure concessions that would offer protections for young undocumented immigrants, increase domestic spending, provide aid to Puerto Rico, and more. The Senate adjourned Thursday night without scheduling a vote. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/01/19/senate-dissaray-government-shutdown-349298

Trump canceled his trip to Mar-a-Lago in hopes that lawmakers will avoid a shutdown. Trump had been planning to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his inauguration at the Florida resort. Tom Cotton: "The difference between Steve King and Lindsey Graham is Steve King can actually win an election in Iowa."
Reporters actually went "oooooh" after.
I… don't get this diss. Is Doofus trying to say Graham is too "RINO" to win in a rural state? Obama won Iowa twice.
-

Assume it refers to the primaries, and Graham withdrawing before he ever got there.

Given this is the same Tom Cotton who wants his constituents to stop interacting with him if they don't have anything nice to say about him he shouldn't go throwing stones at this juncture
Plus Steve King is not a guy any republican should be going to bat for even for cheap pops..
-
So here's The Most Cynical Turtle In History's strategy:
Hold 9 million children hostage and delude self into thinking that it's the Democrats that will pay a political cost for the shutdown.
-
Knowing the stupidity of the average voter, it will probably pay off like all of Turtle's other destructive gambits.
-
Maybe in Kentucky but with that tweet having less likes than replies methinks Republicans are going to rightfully take the blame for this.
Provided some enterprising individuals don't decide to gin up some bullshit between now and then.
-
Many myths died in the past 365 days. Among them, the idea that Mitch McConnell was an actually competent majority party leader.
-
Steve King is one of the more horrific people in congress.
-
Fixed.
@Cyan:
Many myths died in the past 365 days. Among them, the idea that Mitch McConnell was an actually competent majority party leader.
Back when Mitch's entire job description was "Just oppose Obama no matter what" it was easy to look like a leader.
Now that he has to actually lead and have policies and do actual work and get along with the president, that's a different job entirely!
-
@Monkey:
Steve King is one of the more horrific people in congress.
Probably doing something wrong when Lindsey Graham is using your name to mock Tom Cotton.
That's quite the trifecta.
Reminds me of the throwaway line in the House Intel Fusion GPS transcript where Simpson said Trump had a lot of Russian connections, "more than Rohrabacher"

More you know I suppose.

whispers Republicans didn’t even manage to get 50 votes by themselves*
-
"I wish for all our sakes that the Democratic leader would figure out what he actually wants. I feel bad for his own members. He's painted them into a corner."
This statement didn't age well.
-
Paul Ryan officially better at whipping up votes.

Apparently someone's wisened up
-
-
And we're done.
-
Well, guess I'll be having the day off on Monday.
-
Nonzero chance of this shutdown lasting for months, considering a prerequisite for Dems to play ball is fully intact non-shitty DACA which…does not seem likely coming from Turtle and his Krazy Konservative Kaukus.
-
So the 1 year anniversary of Trump taking office is marked by the government being shut down?
Talk about timing.
-
So in 2013 Trump said that if the government goes through a shutdown the president is should be held accountable + The report I mentioned where Trump blames Republicans for the shutdown = Trump on Twitter blaming Democrats for the shutdown
-
Claire McCaskill proposed a measure to guarantee that military families would continue to get paid during the shutdown and McConnell promptly killed it.
-
Too bad no one will ever know.
-
Well…first day of the shut down. I completely forget what the shutdown of 2013 was like, but I expect to hear about it soon. I look forward to seeing how this plays out, yet at the same time I'm lucky in the sense that I don't work for or depend the government. I can only imagine what that's like.
Also, Schumer compared negotiating Trump like talking to Jello. I can only imagine (again) what it's like to talk to Trump in person, but it seems like a dire situation. Trump's too stupid and too feckless to agree to a deal, and his aides are playing defense. I assume this is only going to end when Trump gets away from those guys and impatiently agrees to something behind their back, but who knows when that'll happen.
In the meantime, I might buy a bowl of jello. Between Cosby and Trump, that brand doesn't deserve this bad press. No one does.

Come on it's not like you'd be the first person to run for office who'd be charged with or convicted of crime.

As a government employee (though I can't speak for all government employees), all I can say is that I actually don't mind having what will likely be only a few days off, if even that. In 2013, I only had four days off of work and then I believe they gave me retroactive pay anyway.
But yeah, I can't speak for all the federal employees who may not be as well off as I am.

I remember reading about this, hope you guys get it this time….

This stupid piece of shit apparently had no idea that accepting a presidential pardon means basically admitting guilt to the pardoned crime.
-
Here he is being informed at 4:23 that accepting a pardon was admitting guilt.
Neat the end he starts going "Where did you get a Trump quote? From a book? Can't be true then. From a book."
-
Next on the calendar:
- State of the Union address on Jan 30, and holy fuck if the government is still closed by then
- Debt ceiling, where we do the song and dance all over again and Mitch the Magic Turtle presumably trips over his own dick yet again
-
So I suppose I can't send in my tax refund forms while the government is shut down?
-
lol isn't this shutdown happening because of the Chuck & Nancy Deal that Trump made in September because he was angry at Ryan and Turtle at the time? They wanted to move this to after the midterms, Trump agreed to three months (which ultimately became four).
-
-
"I will not be lectured about what our military needs by a five-deferment draft-dodger. And I have a message for cadet bone spurs: If you cared about our military, you'd stop baiting Kim Jong-Un into a war that could put 85,000 American troops .. in danger."

Well; they could have, you know, worked this out in a bipartisan manner over the last 4 months and had something ready to go to vote on.
But they had to focus on the tax theft bill instead, so.
-
This whole thing happened because the GOP wanted hostages to force things through the Senate in exchange for fighting the exact same battle a little later and the Democrats didn't fall for it.
-
The long arduous march to November…
-
This is some truly foul Willie Horton on steroids racebaiting.
-
McCaskill proposed making sure the military still gets pay and death benefits during the shutdown. McConnell objected…
