Very bold, indeed. He's been fighting none stop albeit eating in between and during fights. This still puts him on a handicap against Kata who just had his sugar level replenished earlier. Luffy still needs to raid Meat Island before he fight Kata.

He'll have to keep settling for sweets, and mochi which he apparently hates for some reason (you'd think a glutton like him wouldn't be so bloody picky! I'm not fond of it myself but I wouldn't say I hate it.) But since carbs give you more energy it should let him keep moving quickly, though with no protein he won't be able to recover and heal as effectively, so it's a trade-off. No idea how he's going to be able to boost up enough in such a short amount of time, unless he's going to continue the fight until well after Big Mom is knocked out. Like, "I'm not leaving 'til I've put you down too!" I mean, I've already given my idea for how Sanji could get a quick power-up but how Luffy's going to manage that, or if he's going to have to cut and run with the rest of them and try to challenge Katakuri again later, I have no idea.
-
Can we get some extra appreciation for that one panel of Pudding going all "nosebleed and heart eyes Sanji" over Sanji. So cute!
Fully agree, its such a joy to watch her current role as comic relief, thanks god we dont have her as an actual ambivalent character with a motive of her own and a menacing ability as she was presented during the middle of the arc.
Bleeding noses make all chapters better. -

He's going to go back in once his haki is back. Speed is the enemy of CoO, he has to find a way to exceed Katakuri in speed.

He doesn't just need speed though, Katakuri can beat his Elephant Gun with a giant mochi punch. He's got to get better in every way, like Gohan going Super Saiyan 2 against Cell.

Once his Haki comes back, though, he can just go G4 again which puts him on about the same level as Katakuri.

@No:

Not really, not unless Katakuri is distracted. And Luffy said he doesn't want to win that way, so unless he's like a Saiyan and every time he uses Haki in battle, he becomes stronger no matter the outcome, he still has no way of closing that gap. And even if he's the guy's equal, he needs to surpass him, so that's still a problem. I can see Oda doing a cheap powerup on Sanji but not here with Luffy.

The gap between them doesn't seem that big, I can count the number of times Kata's been hit on my figures and he's about half spent already.
The issue is whether Luffy can hit Katakuri or not, and making him lose focus isn't necessarily the sole way to do that. What Luffy said was he wanted to fight Katakuri while Katakuri was at full strength rather than wait out his CoO, he never said anything about limiting himself. Also, love it or hate it, Luffy himself said he wanted to become stronger though improving his CoO, which likely will be through direct combat, as the only other thing he can do right now is make small talk with Brulee. I just personally don't think Luffy needs any kind of major power boost here in order to come out on top.
-
I love Bege! I think his son will grow up to be a strong mafia boss/pirate captain and also be a fan of Luffy.
So many different stories I wanna see post OP ending
-

Only Mangastream had Luffy say he hated the mochi and they're the least reliable of the three main translations. JB and Viz just have him say "I ate the mochi!"
-
That's the only host for it that I knew about so it's all I ever have to go on for my information. Google is surprisingly crappy at giving good results for finding sites that post the latest chapters so I just gave up and started using that one only.
-
That's quite a strong moment for Sanji. Probably the fastest attack shown by a Straw Hat thus far, on a strong enemy no less. Doesn't seem like he went all out either, as he doesn't want to be caught to endanger his identity.
Brook is able to cut those he fights, and they don't notice while he does it until it procs when he puts his sword away, but he has never shown that ability on anything more than fodder as far as I can remember.
-

Regardless of how powerful Katakuri may be, the same rule applies. Speed is the enemy of CoO, that has been proven several times.

I'm blanking on any specific situation where speed alone was what broke down a CoO premonition but I'll take your word for it. However, Katakuri having total control of the environment around him, and able to attack remotely without even having to get up-close and personal, is going to take more than a speed boost to defeat. But that's not really important anyway unless Luffy actually does figure out how the hell to accomplish this in no time at all. Knowing what's needed and actually having it, two different things.

IIRC Luffy used g2's speed to beat Boa' s sister's CoO. That's the only situation I can recall off the top of my balding head

Caesar clown will create the definitive gigantification potion and help Luffy. They are going to use that to defeat this guy lol And the Chopper will find the cure but this will give Luffy side effects because of his fruit

I have wondered what the limits were to Luffy's stretchiness, like if he could do a full-body G3 and not just turn his limbs giant, but all of himself.
-
The rest of the crew should get hard battles that push them to the limit too so they can get stronger, not just luffy. If they plan to help him beat yonkous, and luffy won-t just solo the commanders and the yonkouș.

I know, but I'm talking about right here, right now, against Katakuri. Luffy's pretty much the only one who's had any real fights during this arc, and the one that actually was a major victory was against Cracker. Everything else has been mainly a group effort or they got their asses kicked. No one else has yet really had the opportunity to start raising their power level in a straight fight, even up to this point, except Luffy.

excuse me y'all, is there a break this week or no spoilers yet? Thanks.

I always thought that the limits of someone's power change depending what Oda wants to draw, for example he wanted a flying carpet so he drew one.

Enel too. He specifically mentioned that the golden rifle was too fast for him to do anything about.

@Better:

It's pretty much that, yes. Oda could care less about exact power levels. He'll pull out whatever he this is fun and thematically fitting. Hence a flying carpet in fairy tale candyland, or a snow angel harpy villain in ice/fire island.
It would be very easy for Oda to make up a power-up for Sanji out of thin air. He did that for Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji's powerups in Enies Lobby. All he has to do is say Sanji's been hiding some secret ability he got from Kamabakka Kingdom. Characters get stronger in-between arcs even though training is never seen. Sanji didn't even lose to Vergo, just got hurt from an attack and the fight got interrupted. Doflamingo's Parasite is hax as hell since it possessed Jozu, and needed its existence to be ignored for most of the fight with Luffy until the second Gear Fourth transformation. He stomped Sheepshead with one Diable Jambe attack. Daifuku only counterattacked once before that fight stopped. And Sanji just kicked Oven faster than he could see.
That doesn't rectify how much Sanji's looked like a chump, but getting him back to looking good in fights isn't hard at all. Sanji isn't the problem. Oda's lack of interest in giving Sanji a fight is the problem. The same applied to Robin and Brook.
-
@Better:

It used to be 72 gomu gomus at the start of the series, but Oda said he could get to 100 if he worked hard. I'm pretty sure he can get over 100 gomu gomus now.

So if and when they get to Elbaf, we might see giant Luffy? His hunger will know no bounds!

Sanji was struggling with Judge
Then dodges a jolly rancher from a guy who can see the future
Struggling to get away from Daifuku
Now makes Oven look a guy with no clue.lol

My only excuse for Oda's inconsistency is that Sanji short of the Oven case hasn't really gone all out yet. You may say he should've been versus Daifuku, but something about how that was handled by Oda made it seem like no one was truly going 100% on either side

At least Brook got a bit of fight with trash and BM's soul homies, far better than Robin who is now a babysitter with archeology on the side.

Where everything will finally go tits up will be end of the series when the crew go against Blackbeard's crew. I don't know how he plans to explain a babysitter defeating Catarina Devon.

applies to anyone not Zoro Luffy or Ussop. Franky had a fight but he didn't really grow during that fight (and it felt more like a comedic fight than anything). I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but it's not satisfying for the reader if the rest of the SHs get left behind. But we still have the rest of this arc for them to grow I guess.

Actually Franky had two fights, piloting the Shogun against Baby 5 and Buffalo on Punk Hazard, and then against Pinky in Dressrosa. He's my favorite character, in case my username wasn't a dead giveaway, LOL. I wish he was around more but I guess Oda has to balance things and not use all the same characters from Dressrosa this arc. It would have been somewhat more satisfying seeing Brook in action taking on Big Mom and her soul projections rather than just the aftermath, so even that was kind of just a prick tease, and even though that was a major fight for him (and against a hugely major opponent at that), and he did damn well even though he was out of his league, we'll never get to see it unless the anime decides to fill in some scenes from it.
-

If such minor feats are being counted for Brook, then I can bring up how Robin clutched Hammond with no difficulty in Fishman Island and easily incapacitated Hakuba during Dressrosa. Not that I disagree at all with that definition of Robin lol. Brook can't even replicate the feat against the Homies outside of this arc due that resulting from a coincidental Devil Fruit advantage.

I would say that Nami is going to fight Devon.

So if Oda for some reason went on an epic troll spree and pulled a George and let Katakuri kill Luffy, spear through the head:
- BM pirates would then finish off the other SHs and Bege
- Zoro, Law, Samurai & Mink alliance would die at the hands of the Beast Pirates
- Boa would die of heartache
- WG would imprison, torture and/or execute Vivi, Violet and Rebecca after proclaiming their countries as WG traitors who sympathize with enemies of the state
- WG would enslave Fishmen, imprison, torture and experiment on Shirahoshi to control "Poseidon", and later proceed to destroy the Revolutionaries
- Shanks would turn into a drunk, give up piracy and live in solitude on an abandoned island because he bet his arm on the wrong horse and doesn´t want to lose both
- and last but most importantly, the one and only worthy pirate scum Teach would become The Pirate King
ZEHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHA
:ninja:But no matter what the author decides, the OP world was setup so nicely that it wouldn´t be a boring story even if the MC failed.
-
So if Oda for some reason went on an epic troll spree and pulled a George and let Katakuri kill Luffy, spear through the head:
I sympathize, but this can't happen yet. We should first spend the better part of a year with Luffy training like crazy and hyping to death this fabulous new gear that he's gonna use to make his rematch with Kata. While fellow captains from the Worst Generation take bets as to whether or not Luffy's body can withstand the strain of the New Gear (spoiler : he can't. Luffy dies before even throwing a single punch).
Seriously, I like Hippo and last chapter was a bold move if anything, but what on earth went through the guy's mind

I would say that Nami is going to fight Devon.
Why would you say that? Nami is the navigator, and Lafitte is Blackbeard's navigator, plus he has wings and it's looking like Nami is going to be getting herself a flying cloud she can ride on, so that matches up a bit better, not to mention she uses a staff as a weapon and he's got himself a cane which is yet another potential clue, plus their slender body types match, which makes it likely they're both more tactical fighters whereas Devon would be more of a tank and not quite as appropriately matched. Just my two cents. But if there needs to be a girl-on-girl fight between the Straw Hats and Blackbeard Pirates, there's still Robin vs. Devon as a decent possibility.

Because Crescent moons are associated with witches, and Nami is one. Basically Devon is a Witch hunter, which is why they would pair up nicely.
"The Crescent Moon
The Crescent Moon is a Witchcraft symbol of the Goddess, and therefore usually worn only by women. It is shown in its waxing phase, and worn by young women of birthing age. The word Crescent comes from the Latin creare which means to create. This is a symbol of female fertility, and the ability of women to create life."Not to mention Lafitte has hypnotic abilities much like Brooke, so it is more likely they are going to be paired up in a fight.

Huh…I would have thought they were all going to match up with their analogue on Blackbeard's crew based on whatever occupation they happened to specialize in. Interesting. If that's the case, though, then there's going to be inconsistency since most of the rest of the crew is bound to go up against their job rivals like Usopp vs. Van Augur, and Chopper against Doc Q. I had figured that the common thread, based on that, would be the jobs they perform for each crew providing them with their eventual nemeses. But I guess since half the BB pirates were newcomers and didn't have assigned positions yet, that wasn't necessarily the case. Although I'd speculate that Sanji will tangle with Vasco Shot (Food vs. Drink, basically), and Zoro Vs. Shiliew seems like a given, what with swords involved. Beyond that, though, not really sure. I figure Franky will have to come up with a way to make something big enough to go up against Sanjuan Wolf, since Franky's the shipwright and for a brief period, Wolfy served as an actual ship for the BB pirates given his size (and I can't help but think the Noah ship is somehow going to come into his possession as something he can ride on like a Funnoodle pool toy).

I think that their position in the crew serve only for some of them. A quick summary of what has been discussed before, mixed with what I would like/think is possible.
Luffy vs Blackbeard - pretty much a given.
Zoro vs Shybum - Same, but I prefer to think that instead of the Diamond fruit, he gets the Phoenix fruit. This is part of a bigger discussion though.
Nami vs Caterina Devon - Witch reference as pointed above.
Ussop vs Van Auger - Position in the crew and its obvious.
Sanji vs Burguess - This is where the other reversal of the popular opinion is. I think Burguess would suit the Diamond fruit better, giving his fighting style and the fact that he got burned by Sabo and missed the chance of a fire fruit, might push him to have a fruit with a high melting point. Either way, he would still get burned by Sanji's fire, and Sanji would have quite the opponent to beat through considering diamond is also a hard substance. The counterpoint is: But Sanji can fly, so it would be cool to have an air battle, which I agree, on the other hand, Burguess has demonstrated great leg strength (clue in <-) in Dressorosa by jumping down the plateau. Not to mention that their final fight could be in a closed environment (like a room) which could have Burguess jumping around like a bouncing diamond ball.
Chopper vs Doc Q - Their profession again.
Robin vs The Corrupt King - ? Don't remember why.
Franky vs San Juan Wolf - San Juan Wolf is also known as colossal battleship if I am not mistaken. The most popular idea in my head is that the Shogun is the center piece, and the Sunny performs docking on the ship making the Sunny Zord. A member in the forum has drawn this, and it looks amazing.
Brooke vs Laffite - Hypnotic abilities.
Jimbe vs Vasco Shot - Personally, Vasco looks like Fishman, and I am in love with the idea of Fishman Karate vs Drunken Fishman Karate if Vasco is indeed one.
Mystery X vs Mystery Y - Besides the obvious pairings, the last two crew members on each side could change the pairings.
-

Interesting points. Although, even with the Sunny docking with the Shogun, their combined size won't even equal that of a normal giant, let alone an Oars-and-up sized one. Unless it gets swallowed, and has to attack him from the inside, and fight his organs and immune system or something, which admittedly would be pretty damn awesome.
I still think Jimbei and Burgess are going to fight, Jimbei's wide frame is somewhat of a contrast to Burgess' miniscule lower body but his upper body puffs out more, so it's almost like watching a Yin and Yang shape form if you had them in that pose from the end of that one Rocky movie. But you could argue that the upper-body reliance of Burgess would be a good foil for Sanji who favors the lower-body combat style.
I do recall hearing there was a revenge attack by the former Whitebeard Pirates against the BB pirates and that it didn't go well, but I don't remember hearing any specific details, like if anyone was killed or captured, but then I've heard Mangastream is the least reliable translation so I may have just missed some details since that's where I always read new chapters from. Is Marco and/or Jozu confirmed dead after that, and that's the reason people think the BB pirates will have those specific abilities?
-

It can also be seen as the David vs Goliath type of scenario.

If crew positions were what set these match ups, then it could work that way as both of them are helmsmen. Cutting diamond is why people put Shybum with that devil fruit power as Zoro's last hurdle. I think it is too small of feat. I'd rather see Zoro fight someone with a diamond sword first.
Not to mention if/when Shybum and Mihawk fight, I think it would go in line to have Mihawk beat Shybum, but the latter backstabs him when he revives with the Phoenix fruit.

It was called the Payback War. There were no confirmed deaths just that the Whitebeard pirated suffered a defeat. But like with the Red Hair Pirates, when the final war occurs, where are these characters going to go? They are extremely powerful for us the readers to believe that the ~good side~ will lose if both the Red Hair and the Whitebeard pirates are still active.
That's why Shanks's death is very popular, because storywise it raises the stakes.
For the Whitebeard pirates, a couple of years ago I posted an idea of why I think it makes sense for Blackbeard to make his first appearance in the New World in Wano. Many story elements have been set up that can lead him there, mainly the vast amount of devil fruit powers that are up for the taking once the battle between Kaido and Luffy is over.
Luffy would be successful in defeating Kaido, however not in the liberation of Wano. I think the Straw Hats will suffer a defeat in the New World, mainly because it would be boring if they win each and every arc. Some people think that would be Raftel, I think it would be Wano.
If Blackbeard does show up, then we also have the potential of having Weevil there and the remnants of the Whitebeard pirates, these two would team up against Blackbeard allowing the Straw Hats to escape. Obviously this will end with Blackbeard winning and obtaining the devil fruit powers the Whitebeard pirates possess, and whatever is lying around from the Beast pirates.

I expect the Blackbeard Pirates to match-up against the Straw Hats under the premise of them being parallels of each other. How they parallel each other does not have to be tied to one specific type of trait. It can be a similar crew position. It can be a similar/opposite personality. It can be a similar or countering Devil Fruit/fighting ability. It can be a similar design style. Any of these things can work and don't have to be the solid rule individually.
I pair Brook up against Lafitte because… just freaking look at them. They both have top hats and canes. One plays music while the other likes to tap dance (and I'm willing to bet that Lafitte's wings come from a Siren Devil Fruit that lets him sing to hypnotize people). They can both hypnotize people. They both look like they came out of a damn Tim Burton movie, and I already know that Oda loves The Nightmare Before Christmas lol.
Robin could fight Pizarro if the "Corrupt King" epithet has anything to do with history. Although that is a big guess. Strangely, Pizarro was the only Level 6 prisoner to be wearing actual clothes instead of a black and white jumpsuit. I doubt that was a mistake by Oda. Or she could fight San Juan Wolf instead by summoning giant body parts or a giant version of herself. But I can't ever imagine Oda drawing a giant Robin wrestling San Juan Wolf, it goes against Robin's constant calm and inactive demeanor way too much.
Kira already explained Nami versus Devon. There is concept art of Devon looking a lot like Nami with a bit of a black cat attire look. Also, I don't know why, but I feel like Oda will never budge from having Nami fight women. Even though Robin has fought several men, although she only got one full fight.
That would be awesome. But regardless, I imagine the battle being similar to how many human-sized characters in this series are strong enough to pulverize gigantic creatures. If you want an example of how this would look, try thinking of the boss fights in Shadow of the Colossus. San Juan Wolf only has his giant size as an advantage while the Sunny Shogun has superior mobility/speed and weapons.

Also, I just want to note that the first time that Franky brought up the idea of Docking, even though it was a gag at the time, was during the fight against Oars.
Who Sanji and Jimbei will fight are often toss-ups, but most people can agree that the best choices for either of them to fight are Jesus Burgess and Vasco Shot. Kicking versus punching or cook versus alcoholic. Karate versus wrestling or Fishman karate versus Drunken Fist Fishman Karate.

Marco's certainly still alive, they wouldn't hype him up if he's dead. Jozu might be, who knows. But this ties into a big reason why certain people thinkt he Blackbeard Pirates might show up in Wano Country. To finish the job against the Whitebeard Remnants. Probably at the end of the arc after Kaido's defeated. But that's only one of several ways the arc can end in, and they can even show up at Elbaf instead/also.

Wait, the WB pirates remnants are on Wano? I don't remember that being mentioned (but then I rarely get the chance to read a chapter more than once) but considering there'll already be the Wano natives, the Heart Pirates, some minks and the Straw Hats, adding in even more (aside from the Kaido villains) is just crazy.

They may not be there in present time, but I imagine they will be present on Wano by the time Luffy gets there. Nekomamushi only mentioned Marco, but I doubt that only Marco will be present from the crew. It doesn't matter much anyways since the only relevant members of that crew are Marco, Jozu, Vista (he has some sort of tension with Yasopp so maybe he'll interact with Usopp), and Oars Jr (Ace made him a hat from Wano Country and I bet that Kaido is from the same race he is).
You also forgot the Supernovas and Moria.

Whitebeard pirates are not there currently, but are being recruited by Nekomamushi for the upcoming war against Kaido.
Which unless they turn down the invitation, puts them at Wano when things start rolling.

I thought OJ was killed during the battle? He got f'ed up pretty bad not even including the leg amputation.
Also while I'm aware of the Kidd/Apoo/Hawkins alliance I'm not recalling anything in particular suggesting they'll be present at Wano despite their main focus being Kaido (which, given it was Big Mom that ripped of Kidd's arm, you'd think he'd be more interested in revenge against her). Besides Law, Luffy and Zoro, I wouldn't automatically assume anyone other than X Drake being a Supernova at Wano at this exact time, given that he's a Kaido enforcer. Also Moria's been keeping a low profile, I don't think he'd show his face til he knows for sure a capable effort is being put together against Kaido for him to jump on board. While Absalom does seem keen at gathering info I'm not sure if he'll be privy to exactly what the Straw Hats and co. are up to and pass that along to his boss.
