@Silence:
Came across this in my RSS feeds this afternoon and it is so, so apt:
And this is why we can't have nice things.
It was good for what it was, never said it wasn't. But it only amounted to a good time when it could have amounted to something phenomenal.

@Panda:
No offense – and I absolutely don't expect you to respond to this, since you said you're done with the topic, and I can respect wanting to drop something -- but I find it a little odd that you're choosing to bow out now; considering you'd seemed so adamant in your challenge that someone explain what they saw in the characters, and yet after Robby did so, quite elegantly, you didn't even bother to acknowledge it, let alone respond.
Speaking of which, thank you for that write up, Robby! I suppose I can't necessarily say it gave much in the way of new insight or any such thing, but it was very well written, and I think seeing an analysis like that written out makes for an interesting read.
Dude, I've been through this song and dance a number of times before. It never ends well especially for me. When things start getting nasty, it's best to just bow out.
I'll acknowledge the Plinkett challenge by saying it's good for Robby that he managed to find something out of these characters, some layers of depth that I couldn't find. In my opinion, with the exception of Idris and Ron, they were bland, generic, done a million times before. The main lead wants to do the right thing, is against authority figures, has issues that affect his self esteem established in the beginning of the movie? That's every generic main lead in any action movie ever. Rinse repeat with the rest of the cast with the exception of Ron and Idris's characters which were awesome. They're just walking cliches. There were some character bits I really liked, the backstory with Mako and Idris, the scene with Iceman Australian dude and his father at the end, but those are a couple of scenes out of an entire movie where they, for me, just acted in the most predictable, bland manner possible for an action film. They were just uninteresting to me. Hey, good for him if he found some hidden subtleties to the characters that I couldn't or maybe he's reading too much into them or maybe they are good characters but just not my cup of tea? I dunno, bottom line, he liked them, I didn't and they really brought down the movie for me from great to ok. That's all I can say.
