http://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2017/08/07/rohani-girl-who-married-rapist-is-fine/
Welps, there goes any hope for the protection of children from sexual abuse in my country…
The victim does not have an education, is still obliged to visit her rapist in prison, still married to him, & still living in shame for being raped which stop her from going to school.
She isn't fine at all. And when her rapist is released, she's forced to live with him unless she gets a divorce...
(I'm glad that she is doing better & trying to move on with her life but nobody is providing her with what she really needs. That pissed me off.) -
Jeremy Corbyn stands by the common man, as long as the common man doesn't go off fighting the security forces of an oppressive left wing regime.

They need to invent a foreign policy muzzle for politicians that have great domestic potential, and shit fp potential.
Could have used it for LBJ too back in the day. -
LBJ trying to use an integrated military both as efforts fo Combat RacismTM and to fight dirty commies has to be one of the more spectacularly fucked up policies I've seen.
Oh and on the Venezuela situation, the leftist criticism I've heard (which I'm willing to take with a grain of salt since a worrying number of them are unusually sympathetic to the likes of Telesur) is that the opposition to Maduro have the potential to make a rightist dictatorship.

That's not Leftist criticism, that's Tankie/Useful Idiot Leftist criticism.
-
When the left already set up a leftist dictatorship, is kind of hard to remove it.
Besides they define dictatorship as "any power that is not us". They also define fascism as " right winged extremism" rather than "exaltation of the state extremism", and " media manipulation" as "pointing contradictions on their speech with their past interviews and declarations" and "economic war" as "we don't like free market and are at a loss why prices keep going up while we print money like crazy and set prices for everything we can".

Venezuelan chief prosecutor Luisa Ortega has been removed from her office. The constitutional assembly have also made it so she cannot run for public office again, leave the country, and have frozen her assets.

Last weekend a bomb damaged the imam's office of the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Minneapolis Minnesota. Nobody was injured thankfully. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are currently involved in the investigation. There are no suspects right now. The Governor of Minnesota Mark Dayton has condemned this as an act of terrorism, and a private security company is patrolling the mosque.

Deputy Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil's extreme right idol made a speech today, renaming the party "PEN" (National Ecological Party) that he recently entered into the "Patriot" party. In the speech, he said that his party will focus on the fight against corruption (the "cancer of brazil" as he pointed out) and also, against the smartmatic's electronic urns in the next election.
To my surprise, his speech was a lot more liberal than conservative, but I guess this is alright.
-
We should never stop being overly critical of politicians, is not left or right that breaks a country, but complacency and lack of accountability.
Also fuck smartmatic. -

There is no Liberal Level that will change the fact he is the closest thing to a Trump in Brazil.

CNN severs ties with Jeffrey Lord
http://money.cnn.com/2017/08/10/media/jeffrey-lord-cnn-ties/index.html
CNN severed ties with Jeffrey Lord on Thursday, hours after he ignited controversy by tweeting the words "Sieg Heil!" at a prominent liberal activist.
"Nazi salutes are indefensible," a CNN spokesperson said in a statement. "Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network."
Lord said his tweet was misunderstood. He said he was mocking fascists, not acting like one
"I love CNN, but I feel they are caving to bullies here," he said in a telephone interview shortly after the network's decision was announced.
Lord said his contract was set to expire at the end of the year. He said he greatly respected CNN management despite disagreeing with the decision.
Every time I see a story like this, I wonder to myself "What did you think would happen?"

ANYONE who has a extreme right speech pattern would be a Trump in Brazil.
So yeah, if Bolsonaro wants to gain more voters, he needs to spread his ideology, sure, Brazil needs conservatives methods right now, but a bit of liberalism won't hurt.

Bolsonaro is more similar to Ted Cruz to me since he's a crazy religious fundamentalist as well and should be kept far away from being president's seat as possible. Hopefully he will keep fumbling around looking for a party that puts up with his crap and doesn't find it
-
You may disagree with what he says, but, besides him, what other option do we have ?
Is either him or a military intervention.I really liked the name of his party, if you are against this party, then you are a anti-patriot.
-
Cuggs you are saying very worrying things.

This just appeared in my notifications and seems relevant.

I don't approve any kind of extremism, but… There is no other option.
Is either going back to PT, 4 more years of Temer-esq government, extreme right or military intervention. -
You may disagree with what he says, but, besides him, what other option do we have ?
Is either him or a military intervention.First of all, there is the presidential election which is by design something that is supposed to give us many options and there are other candidates saying they will run or are at least considering doing so in 2018. Now if you wanna say they're all hopeless and the only ones with a shot of winning are Bolsonaro and Lula, you're basically throwing in the towel over an year before the elections happen and before you even know about the people running.
Even assuming what you said is true, those 2 options don't even seem mutually exclusive to me. Bolsonaro has repeatedly expressed support for the military dictatorship we had and is authoritarian enough that it seems he'd start another one if it'd benefit him. So honestly, I don't think him being elected would prevent another dictatorship at all.
I really liked the name of his party, if you are against this party, then you are a anti-patriot.
No one is going to take you seriously if you keep saying things like this.

I don't get it why do people have a beef with the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea
While we're on authoritarians in South America:
What's this, the same government trying to pressure Corbyn to take a stronger stance against Maduro has an ongoing arms contract with Venezuela??? Why I never

Ok, I can respect your opinion, even if it is different from my.
But I have to say… Do you trust any of the pre-candidates ? Do you trust the STF ? No matter where I see, I can only see corruptions schemes, from "both" sides. Politicians can promise anything, but.. trust them ? Meh..
Also, that was a joke with the name of Bolsonaro's party.
Ah, if you want to continue this discussion, PM me ;) -
Briefly scanning by I thought we were talking about some guy from my area. Italian-Brazilian huh?
-
lol, but yeah, I am not going to drag this discussion any longer, I prefer make something I like instead of making pointless discussions to someone I don't know and for what ? justify my point of view to strangers ?
Like, he/she said "military dictatorship", but for me, it was a military intervansion. It is worth to keep arguing ? Nah.
That is why I asked if he/she wants to keep this discussion, that it would be better if we continue this in PMs.

It's the ancient art of Pachydermfu; they've shown some signs of promise but cannot hope to ever challenge their master.

Well its kind of a debate isn't it? (or "innit?" for our British friends).
-The Republicans have absolute control of all elected branches of government, and are still bumbling and fumbling and tripping on every available banana peel.
-While the Tories went from similar degrees of control, gambled on more, and then immediately shat their pants and have basically fumbled down their power to almost losing their dominance entirely. And everyone hates them thanks to Grenfell too.Which is more tragicomic?

Well, I'm approaching this with the mindset that even if I end up hating all of the candidates I'm still going to try to figure out which one is the least bad for me so if I end up not trusting any of them I'll still hold my breath and vote for the less worst of them.
And yeah, I think there's a few pre-candidates I'll be able to stomach but it's still early to be sure and also they might not even have any real chance. Just hope it doesn't come to Lula x Bolsonaro at the end. I don't mind continuing this discussion in PMs or here so if it's better I'll send you a PM
And about the STF, at least I think I can trust them more than politicians they're trying to get and also their sense of self-preservation.

Huh? We're both brazilian, not sure where you got the Italian from
-
Zephos is talking about Jair Bolsonaro, he is half Italian.
And I am half german :v
As for the discussion, as long as it keeps being civilized, and the mods are ok with this, we can continue here, if not, we can go to PMs. -
Brazilians are the best AP nationality, just these dudes who cut through all the dumbassed Euro/American slapfighting largely by just being disconnected as all hell from it. A mixture of innocence of not being involved, and clout from being from a big ol' sonbitch of a country. Only you have this power.
I hate to see you guys fight, you are needed.

@Monkey:
Which is more tragicomic?
The GOP has been here before under Bush and learned absolutely nothing from it. If anything, their second go-around has managed to be even worse than the first and in less than a third the time.

The number of migrants in Spain has exploded over 230% in the last month because Italy doesn't give a crap anymore.
But–- but not a single party is against them because they remember Franco. Take that "uhu we don't want migrants in YOROPE and it's not racism" team.witness this

Bolsonaro ain't a Portuguese name!Oh right, you were talking about him. Guess you don't know much about him? He's our own brand of brazilian far-right and possible future president.
-
Well, he is a possible president because most people who are engaged in political discussions in Brazil can't seem to be centrist.
Or they support far left and PT.
Or they support far right and Bolsonaro.Any other non extremist parties are labeled "conniving with corruption".

Eh I think the Tories are worse off - they've got a vicious right-wing media smearing Corbyn like the Muslim(-friendly) Communist Antichrist AND a significant Blairite wing in Labour trying to weaken his position as well, yet somehow have managed to shoot themselves in the foot even with situations that could've technically been boons to them (the Grande concert bombing could've stoked the anti-immigrant/refuge and Islamophobic flames but the police force managed to turn it to a conversation about May cutting funding to them while Corbyn even managed to get support for his nuanced view of the situation, not that I don't think he's still generally fuzzy foreign policy-wise)
Either way, we can see that both governments are easily clinching the 'worst administrations ever' title in their respective countries (and hopefully holding onto it for a good while). Also, from what I've heard I think we can add Turnbull and his Liberal Party to the 'right-wing governments making an absolute fools of themselves' pile with the recent ideological splits concerning gay marriage.

President Trump signs a memo addressing intellectual property violations in China
So it seems Trump has decided to start the much hyped trade war with China.I don't think it's just a co-incidence that he has done this just after the newest economy data for china is not that positive, asn shows the first sign of a slow-down.
I wonder if china will still go ahead with their sanction implementation against N Korea.
And i would say this has put a lid on any possible flaring up at the Doklam stand-off.Not like there would have been any conflict anyway -
From What The Fuck Just Happened Today's Twitter:

lemme say that again: During the presidential campaign, a junior Trump campaign adviser repeatedly tried to setup a meeting with Putin. [emoji102]

Can Trump start a war in Venezuela ? I mean, would he get the votes at the Senate to go there ?
Absolutely not. There's not even the slightest grounds that even Republican warhawks would go for.
You're still making the mistake to think random idiot comments suggest real plans, and not just his mouth running brain free.
-
I'm making no mistake. I was just asking how the Senate was feeling because all I got was just the Nebraska senator (Ben Sasse) saying:"No. Congress obviously isn't authorizing war in Venezuela" "Nicolas Maduro is a horrible human being, but Congress doesn't vote to spill Nebraskans' blood based on who the executive lashes out at today."
What would the Senate would vote a war for though ?
-
I hope that this won't end up as it looks like its gonna end up -

Technically speaking, the U.S. has not officially declared war since WW2. It's usually called "military interventions" or something along those lines.
-
So Nicolás Maduro is rallying against a foreign invasion from the U.S. It appears to be resonating with lots of people. Features a special guest appearance by Mike Pence.

Oh, I did not know that. I would think with the Korean War, Vietnam War, etc., it was a declaration. I guess I did not pay much attention to how it all went about.

How sickening. These people just want to take advantage of the opium and minerals which Afghanistan possesses.
Will we see a new reenactment of the 1842 retreat from Kabul ?
