Sanji, Sanji, Sanji…. yeah one I want to talk about is Bege.
Poor Guy.
He's currently at the same spot Law found himself when he first allied with Luffy = finding out how crazy the Strawhats really are!
And despite his best tries he'll find himself "at their pace" shortly XD
Sure they all agreed to go their own way after the big fight, but I'm sure that Luffy ends up calling Bege a friend instead of just an ally at some point since Bege's responses to the crew is far too like Law's was than what Crocodile was (whom Luffy hasn't given a 2nd thought to since Marineford)
Chapter 861: The Consummate Actor

I have no idea how this arc can wrap up until July at least.

Any bets on who Luffy fights here?
Honestly, Big Mom wouldn't seem that scary to Luffy. So far the "cower and I can take your soul" ability and lightning are worthless against him; the fire or sword(hat) have a little potential but he's been caught on fire and (uneffectively) charged at with a powerful sword already this arc, not a big deal. However, it all could turn into a battle of wits, i.e. with hostage situations, etc… but, if Luffy comes out ahead (like the marines did against Whitebeard) with just half his crew and a little outside help, it's hard to see him failing to overcome anything throughout the rest of the series. -

Luffy would most likely combat her in Gear Fourth and get a few good hits in with Nami and Brook handling Zeus and Prometheus respectively. While Sanji and Chopper concocts a cake to stuff down her throat to lessen whatever sickness that she developed that has BM going on hunger rampages.

Hahahaha, a blast! I can't tell about Bege's comment: "what acting skills…!"... that looks so much like sarcasm to me.
Btw, in this week i couldn't tolerate MS's translation, i swaped to Jamini in the middle.
Great chapter, i just read it 3 times already.

I think the joke was that Bege was all impressed by Sanjis amazing acting, smiling like he was really looking forward to the wedding, when actually that's the case because of Sanji's perverted nature lol.
I must say, Oda is doing a great job of building up the tension because things are so unpredictable right now. The last few chapters, I've actually kind of been on the edge of my seat while reading. There are just a billion things that can go wrong, it's awesome. Love this arc so much! Oh, both Pudding and Big Mom are quickly becoming favorite characters of mine. I'm really glad Pudding is so evil and hope that Oda won't pull any bullshit "actually falling in love with Sanji" crap at the last minute. She's just a great villain you love to hate. Big Mom, on the other hand, is just tons of fun either way.
Btw, that small panel of Smoothie wringing the juice out of that poor girl - yikes! Looks quite painful.
-
Is there any type of wedding anywhere in the real world where the bride and the groom wait in a room before the marriage or is this just an OP thing?
I assume it's probably like that anywhere that doesn't have the weird rule of "the man can't see the bride before the wedding".
-
Perhaps Mother is a fictional character so that Pudding could manipulate Big Mom.

Perhaps Mother is a fictional character so that Pudding could manipulate Big Mom.
A fictional character made for another fictional character to control other fictional character in a fictional event held in a fictional place at a fictional piece of work?
I feel that this is not true.
-
was about to say that too.
then again i dont think it would work out.
-pudding would need to erase 10 hours or so of his memory
-she also would've had to go through 10 hours of his memory
-why didnt she alert big mom then?
-sanji should've been on guard because of her powers
-that would make sanji go through his worst moment againThat would make Sanji look incredibly stupid because he knows about her ability.
Also did I miss something or does still no one besides Opera know that Luffy and Nami have escaped? Montd'Or should have figured it out by now.
True. Although I thought the off paneling was suspicious.

Well, it's kinda weird that some people were surprised that Mother Carmel is dressed up like a nun, I thought the name itself gave it away.
Funny thing that Sanji suggested kissing Pudding in the forehead, because he definitely can't as her third eye is lying there. -
Somehow I can see Luffy breaking the mirror accidentally… Ooops !

Is the Bride and Groom entering together a Japanese tradition, or simply a non-American one? In the weddings I've attended (including my own), the groom traditionally spends the day of the wedding away from the bride, not seeing her again until she's walked down the aisle, as he enters first. I've noticed here and in other Manga/Anime, and when I got married in FFXIV, that the bride and the groom are announced and enter together. Is that a primarily Japanese tradition or is it observed widely outside the US?

In Austria, Europe, the groom waits in the church (or wherever) for the bride. Bride's father accompanies her to the groom and then passes her on to the groom.

Yeah, that's how it's done here traditionally. It's considered bad luck to see the bride in her wedding gown before the wedding. Usually the groomsmen and bridesmaids enter first, then the groom, then the grandparents are seated, and optional things like flower girl and stuff enter, then finally the bride enters with everyone in attendance standing for her and she's escorted by either her father or father figure (grandfather, etc.). At least, that's how it's been with most weddings I've attended.

That Picture of mother carmel is pretty proof, that Pudding already modified BM's Memory at least once.
No one knows who she really is and BM gets mad if someone asks who she is.
This somehow sounds as if Pudding has already manipulated BM.
It is not far-fetched anymore, that Pudding rejected Loki and blamed Lola for it.If we got a flashback of BM right now, we couldn't even be sure if that flashback really happened this way.
And, tbh, it'd be pretty cool to get a "wrong" flashback served by Oda. Has anyone ever done that before? Writing a wrong flashback as a whole? But it could be, that Carmel is Pudding's real mother and Pudding manipulated her way into the Charlotte Family by putting her own Memory of Carmel into BM's. All this "3-eyed-tribe-special-ability-getting-the-road-to-raftel" stuff could be a big BS as well. Maybe Pudding is just… born with one eye too much.
I mean, remember the Gorgon's eyes. What if Oda pulls off quite a similar Thing with this 3-eyed tribe?
-
Just curious if Judge comes out and reveals that he has secretly been working with Capone all this time. That him and his boys have purposely been mean to Sanji all this and are huge fanboys of him in reality, would that redeem Judge in people's eyes. Or would they hate him just as much or even more?

This seems really reaching. Especially given the much simpler possible explanation that Mother Caramel, and the events surrounding her, are deeply personal to Big Mom and she doesn't like talking about it to people who are, at best, acquaintances.
I do like the idea that Pudding is editing memories because she was the one Loki wanted. My only issue there is Puddings own flashback a while ago, and I think we can agree Pudding's memories are trustworthy if no one else's is, had pudding as a little girl.
While I don't for a moment doubt that Big Mom would set up a marriage that early, it seems unlikely for a "love at first sight" scenario like Chiffon described. Not unless Loki himself was the giant equivalent of a preteen himself at the time.
-
Mother Caramel, Elder Nyon (Amazon Lily) and Miss Bakkin (Edward Weevil's mother) look too much alike. Getting confused here.

didnt oda state somewhere that pudding is from a tribe we haven't heard of yet, back in FMI times? so if this wasnt a red herring then the tribe really exists

From 2012 Dive to The Grand World for the 15th anniversary, there's a page describing the races of OP world.
Oda says those 3 character in the bottom are parts of races that have yet to be properly introduced as of yet, confirming that Pudding is part of a new race.
Her box says this btw nothing big: "A 3 eyed woman, who works for Big Mom."

It's Bepo and Pekoms, this was before Mink were properly introduced.

That cover with Neko is awesome(and so is everything related to him).
Capone is weirdly open about his plans but I guess it is an easy way to get across that the homies can definitely spy on others.
Big Mom loves treasure chests. That's nice & piraty. She even have the proper hat. She should go into raiding ships more often.
Good setup chapter I would say.
-
So what about that talk about not being interested in treasure chests back in FI? Are the sweets from down there that good to not being able to compensate?
-
Neat chapter.
- Caramel's appearance.
- Door got its face chopped off.
- Mystery treasure chests.
Never thought Pudding would look cuter in this one.
!
! Those lips
And then there's the two-faced panel.!
! Now this was nicely done. She has to remain nice though her evil side can't stand waiting to kill the moment, literally of course.
And then we have another hype-building break. I'm sure it's really worth waiting for. -
So what about that talk about not being interested in treasure chests back in FI? Are the sweets from down there that good to not being able to compensate?
I'm guessing her gifts are just desserts
-
@Kaido:

Nice play on words. She might just get what's coming to her from this specific gift. ^^
-

In chapter 651 Pekoms says they are Mamas most beloved sweets.

Still, her raction this chapter is still weird.
-
Still, her raction this chapter is still weird.
She has a whole treasure room. She just didn't want to compromise on what was originally promised out of stubborn pride. Hence why she says "Pirates don't compromise on what they want."
-
Still, her raction this chapter is still weird.
Weirder is the sole panel saying "she's our… MOTHER". Takes you think that Carmel is like the saint of the Charlotte family... or grandmom... or a forced thought of her status... you can't say for sure.
-
Whitebeard wanted a family, did Big Mom want a mom? She acts very childishly. And about the vinsmoke, they have this advance clone technology. I hope the vinsmokes in this wedding are clone, it will be a nice twist. If I could clone myself, I would send my clone to the enemy territory.
-
at least Sanji back ….................. lol
btw what the title means ? ( consummate actor ) i am not familiar with that term.
-
It is really telling how little we have discussed this chapter since the release…

Pekmos and Pepo.

–- Update From New Post Merge ---
btw what the title means ? ( consummate actor ) i am not familiar with that term.
A consummate person is a person who is perfect or skilful at something. A consummate actor is a perfect actor; so is a consummate singer, a perfect singer. A consummate liar is a very inventive liar. A complete villain, like Iago in Shakespeare's Othello, is a consummate villain.
-
I am sure waiting for further exposition of the relationship between Germa and Morgans.
So far, it seems most members of the family are present at the wedding. Although, I do not think I have seen Chiffon. Glad to see the eldest daughter and more members of the Big Mom family. Is Bonney just a fan? Also knows Mother Caramel?
Mother Caramel, I want to know more about her. If Pudding is behind a scheme, then those flashbacks we saw back then, were probably when she thought to herself: "There is no way I am going through that". On the other hand, when Big Mom's wrath comes down at her, we all know Sanji is going to save her, and Pudding will fall for a ~real prince~. That line about trespassing upon memories, let us see where it resolves.
Not that I do not see the possibility of them all joining forces to cook another cake. However, the Fishman Island treasure is not going to be opened until after Sanji is shot. Unless Sanji plays dead, the entire scenario is going to occur before that event. So, if the ~first~ cake is going to be destroyed, I would put my boy Jimbe ruining it before the box, considering he has history with Mama's tantrums. Although most likely, Luffy is going to be responsible with his entrance and pull a: "Mmm, this cake is good!"
With that in mind, if they join forces to cook and Big Mom is in their debt or whatever it was, then the bomb would help for after they leave, to put Big Mom back on bad terms. Enough of that though.
Jajaja, what a great line, we got you presents, and well some for your daughter, just so it is very clear whom is being celebrated first. More than Sanji cooking, I want Nami to steal each one of those treasure boxes while leaving the bomb behind. A payback for taking hers in Fishman Island.
I do not know why I think Brulee will make Gastino backstab the team. Hm, as soon as Capone stared at the door, his henchman knew what to do. I like that synergy. Jimbe I love you. I wonder how long will it take for the crew to corrupt his responsibility.
Oh Sanji, do try not to forget that Pudding shot your sister, someone whom actually helped and cared for you. Oh Big Mom is already gloating, this should be good. Unfortunately for Capone, Sanji stopped acting as soon as he knew he could kiss her. Maybe he will dodge the bullet and still give her a kiss?
-
I imagine Morganz will make a new comic strip after this arc, this time with sanji as main character instead of judge. Sanji reputation and fanbase in OP will skyrocket.
-
It is really telling how little we have discussed this chapter since the release…
Considering the bulk of discussion that happens in these threads, I'd think that's a good thing.
-
Ah, thanks, so the title refers to Bege falsely thinking that Sanji is a good actor, while the truth is that he really just a pervert ?. lol
-

Pretty much. A more accurate translation would be what Sandman said on the spoilers thread:
Chapter title can be translated as "Persons who are good at acting" (演技派), which might refer not only to Pudding but also Sanji and so on.
Basically they're all good actors from what I understood.
-
@Kaido:
Considering the bulk of discussion that happens in these threads, I'd think that's a good thing.
I think it does show that very little has happened in this chapter, but imo it was still a good chapter, because it added dept to the entire thing, to the preparation and what not, still not that much to talk about
-
inb4 Pudding grows some feelings Sanji cause she feels like he will accept her
-

No, Pudding is a consummate actor, Sanji is a consummate jobber. :ninja:

Yeah, I tought about it too. Then I remembered 90% of women looks like Nami so, now I'm like.. whatever…
