Fuck Nintendo of Europe. Why do we have to wait until December 2nd to play Picross 3D Round 2? It's been out in Japan for nearly a year now, how can it take so long to translate a game with very little text in it?

So apparently Nintendo's business plan is to make 3DS ports of everything
I mean, moreso than usual
More like their plan is to pour accelerant all over the Wii U and torch it, then pretend the 3DS is where its games belong.
I suppose in theory I can understand the porting - the Wii U has lost all of its steam at this point, and Nintendo is trying to make some of its more popular titles a little more accessible. It doesn't stop it from being underwhelming and a bit lazy, but whatever.
Stop giving them the benefit of the doubt… the Wii U isn't selling how they'd hoped but they're hammering their own nails in the coffin, just giving up entirely. And moreover despite some amazing titles Nintendo doesn't have a fucking clue how to market any game that doesn't sell itself (read: Mario or Zelda), so with no significant titles from either franchise in ages they're floundering to pathetic degrees. IMO Nintendo is worse than market investors with their self-fulfilling travesty of "none of these titles will sell so we're just going to quietly release them without telling anyone... and pat ourselves on the back for making the right choice when they don't sell."
Nintendo handhelds last what? Roughly 5 years in each cycle? The 3DS has been out since 2011, and no doubt it has a much higher install base than its counterpart console, but I have no clue what's going to be after it. Obviously Ninty is going to milk the most they can, as the 3DS is great, but what would be the next handheld? Or would it be a piece of the NX? I dunno.
Game wise, Pokemon and Dragon Quest look like they'd be the last real profit rakers, which leaves 2017 to be a dry well in terms of new things. (for the 3DS)
That's not to mention the New 3DS, which is much more recent. Honestly they can't win with the NX in my opinion. They'll either be screwing over consoles (most likely) or they'll be screwing over mobile.

Well I never said they weren't part of the problem.

Ehhh I wouldn't count the New 3DS as "new" (lol), because very few games are exclusives for it. It's more of a 3DS polish than anything else.
-

Fair enough, but it sounded like you were listing reasons it made sense for Nintendo to shift to the 3DS while dodging the fact that it was largely a self-implosion.

Sort of. Yeah it has barely any exclusives, but they still had to design it, put better chips in it, market it (which they are doing more than other kinds of marketing), etc. So I think it should count when considering how long they wait before shoving a brand new shiny handheld device at people.

I certainly think the Wii U was underrated/underestimated, and I definitely wish more games and marketing were being applied to it, even right now. If anything my post was more of "well they fucked up, so they're doing this because of it". Basically, I understood, but not agreed.

I guess. It's more of one half being new, one half…er, not.
-

Well, I'll put it this way. The New 3DS has new hardware in several aspects (button design/placement, size, new CPU). So while on a smaller scale than a completely original device, the New 3DS is still certain to require a huge capital investment to be able to produce, just by the virtue of having not only to design it but to build the machines required to manufacture and assemble it.
So I don't know what the profit margin is on N3DS nor do I know its sales figures to date, but they HAVE to move a respectable number of units just to recover the initial investment. And that's something they'll definitely have in mind when deciding their product timeline.

The new Zelda amiibos looks pretty nice. I'm planning to get Toon Zelda for sure.

So apparently Nintendo's business plan is to make 3DS ports of everything

Seems like a good indication that the NX will indeed work as a normal, and a portable console.
-
I'm kinda surprised they' been piecemealing out Mario Sports games individually on full blown consoles for years and now we're like "Here's 5 of them in the same package".
-
Most of that was very standard fare… "Hey, the Wii U has officially tanked what with the NX coming out soon, so here's all the Wii U's greatest hits on the 3DS Now!!" So fine, whatever.... The Zelda Amiibos are neat, I'll definitely be getting those...
Then that last trailer started... Pikmin... My thoughts watching that trailer can be summed up thusly:
the first 10 seconds it was like "Holy shit, 3DS Pikmin Game! Yeah!"…. then.... It was a 2D platformer... ugh........
-
At least with the new Pikmin 3DS game, Pikmin 3 was only a few years ago, so it's not a slap in the face like Federation Force was. But yeah doesn't look like anything to get too excited over.
Recycled assets ahoy in this Direct, which I guess is just them having something on the release calendar until the NX comes out.
Seems like a good indication that the NX will indeed work as a normal, and a portable console.
Yeah I came to the same conclusion. And, um, well, we'll see how that turns out.
IMO Nintendo is worse than market investors with their self-fulfilling travesty of "none of these titles will sell so we're just going to quietly release them without telling anyone… and pat ourselves on the back for making the right choice when they don't sell."
That's like their strategy for the NX itself, though. It's what, like seven months away from release, no one knows a goddamn thing about it, and average joe gamer has no idea that Nintendo has another console coming out (and still probably never realized the Wii U was a system and not an add-on). I remember reading Nintendo claiming they wouldn't make the same mistakes with launching the NX as they did with the Wii U, but probably the biggest mistake with the Wii U was how poorly communicated it was to the general public, so let's top that by not communicating at all!
I'm kinda surprised they' been piecemealing out Mario Sports games individually on full blown consoles for years and now we're like "Here's 5 of them in the same package".
My guess is it's a bunch of recycled assets from the last Mario Tennis, Golf, Strikers, and Sluggers games, so there's probably not a ton of development that has to go into this…but given how lacking the last couple Tennis and Golf games have been this is overdue. Like charging full price for Ultra Smash on the Wii U was a travesty, but I think it would have been acceptable as part of a package like this.
I think Mario Sports Superstars definitely should have been a full-blown Wii U title instead, but...you know.

Holy shit is it just me or is Wii U a dead horse that Nintendo doesn't even bother to beat.
Super Mario Maker, Yoshi Island, Smash bros. The only thing remotely exclusive is like Splatoon and Zelda.
It looks like they are porting everything else to portables 3ds -
Well, NX is supposedly coming soon (even if we haven't heard anything truly substantial about it), so I guess they've pretty much moved all their efforts to it as well as looking into how the fuck they should actually keep their user base for Pokemon Go
A shame the Wii U doesn't even get a swan song tho
-
I feel bad - the Wii U mostly serves for a Netflix/Youtube machine for me now. I should play some Smash or Mario Maker….man I buy too many games.

I was under the impression you just played Fire Emblem in a constant loop :ninja:
Seriously though, I have the opposite problem where I still have too much stuff to play on Wii U. Still haven't fully completed Xenoblade Chronicles X, recently decided to give Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky a try and still need to finish it, then there's indies like Axiom Verge that I haven't had the chance to start, and next Thursday I'm looking into playing Jotun as well.
Just because Nintendo sucks at promoting the machine doesn't mean there's nothing to do on it.

I have the same problem I'm just now getting back into Shin Megami Tensei 4 after buying and playing through a number of other games some of which I haven't finished yet.

It looks like they are porting everything else to portables 3dsYeah man can't wait for those announced 3DS ports of Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Pikmin 3 (a platformer spin-off is not a port…), StarFox Zero (just because I don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't exist)... the list goes on, especially if you include indie titles.
But yes Nintendo is strangling and beating the horse simultaneously.
-
Fingers crossed for NX although I doubt it will change much.
Funny how unfinished games are mentioned here because I have a list. Most of mine are Nintendo's on my 3ds.
I haven't finish two Zelda that I bought, Majora Mask and A Link Between Worlds.
Then there's still Fire Emblem Fates and Monster Hunter 4 sitting there waiting for completion. This is not even counting the list of Indies I have. -

Well see if I could do that on a console, we'd be in business! :ninja::ninja::ninja:

I feel like I'm the only one bothering with the Wii U. Clocked up around 400 hours on Xenoblade X (will eventually get back to it) and around 80 hours so far on Tokyo Mirage Sessions (Nobody bought this) and a few other mediocre titles (went through a strange phase and bought the entire Wii U library.)
Unfortunately gaming in general seems to have slowered to a crawl for me. Aside from Phoenix Wright and Dragon Quest 7 I think it's basically clear skies until the NX as far as games go.
-
Welp, this is happening.

Apple and Nintendo is a marriage that makes a lot of sense to me. Don't mean that as a compliment for either.

Pokemon Go is also coming for Apple Watch.
It was just a matter of time for Nintendo to go that way as well. Their stocks are rising like a rocket as well.
Funny is… In 2010 they called Apple an enemy for the future. But at least they aren't stubborn anre realized that they have been "wrong"

This is the future.

Hey, New Super Mario Bros 3!

Huh, I figured Disney would buy Nintendo, not Apple.
Live and learn, I guess.

Super Mario Run?…...shouldn't it be Super Mario Jump?

Nintendo's stock went up by 25% after the apple conference

I still love the Wii U enough to use it a bit each day. I just got Pokken Tournament for my birthday and looking for opponents if you're interested.

Mario: Infinite Runner is exactly the sort of thing I expected Nintendo would put out when they announced they would be doing mobile games. And given the latest Direct, I don't think they're abandoning their commitment to actual-full-game 2D platforming, either. This seems low-cost, and likely won't inhibit their development of larger titles.
There is no reason to be upset.
Unless you were waiting on that FE and AC mobile titles, which have apparently been delayed.
-
2d platforming is done enough. We need more 3D platformers.
-
I don't know why but I feel sad now.
-
It's the normal state of being in this thread these days. You'll get used to it.
-
Platforming games are nightmare to play on a phone. I do not like where this is going at all. The mobile platform is full of money, and I hope that Nintendo doesn't forget about handhelds.
On the other hand, I don't much care for 2D Marios anymore. They are such a bore to me now. 3D Marios have lost their spark, too.

There are 3D Marios? Where?

There are 3D Marios? Where?
Well, the last one was Super Mario 3D World.
…But I like to refer to all 3D Marios post Sunshine as 2D Mario games with running room.

This is a nice story
Nintendo has their moments
-
I mean not that it's not endearing but this type of story happens all the time. Someone in marketing just said "hey that's sad" and looked around their storage room of marketing materials, put together a bundle, and sent a nice letter.
-

You trippin 3D Marios, are better than they've ever been. 3D World is basically Galaxy 2 but with better controls and multiplayer, it's absolutely fantastic.
-
Mario Run is just tap to jump too though
Miyamoto even said that the goal was to make a fun little game that you can play one-handed, for when you're on the train or eating a burger and stuffnot like there's some shitty virtual control pad on there
that'd just be heinous -
You trippin 3D Marios, are better than they've ever been. 3D World is basically Super Mario 3D Land but with multiplayer, it's absolutely fantastic if you don't mind not being able to play online in this day in age.
Fixed .
-
Triforce Heroes taught me that the lack of Online Multiplayer has it advantages.
-
who in the fresh fuck wants to play a precision platformer with inevitably shaky online multiplayer
-
Someone with no friends or family to play with and who has played online plenty of times without laggy connections?
I also wouldn't call 3D world that exacting with it's platforming, outside of the bonus final level.
-
why the fresh fuck would you want to play a mario game with random chucklefucks holy shit that sounds awful
-
You trippin 3D Marios, are better than they've ever been. 3D World is basically Galaxy 2 …
And that's precisely the problem. Super Mario 3D Land and World are fun games, but they worry me as they feel like the NSMBization of 3D Mario platformers. I mean, think of it… 3D World was THE 3D Mario platformer for the Wii U. Remember how for GCN and Wii they had a 3D Mario platformer with a brand new theme and everything. But then on the Wii U it was just... a sequel to a 3DS game.
These games feel fun right now, but how long will it be until I get a sequel to these and I just don't have any motivation to play it anymore, because everything feels and looks the same. That's exactly what happened to the NSMB series. I enjoyed the DS version, but when I rented the Wii version I didn't get far into it at all because it bored me to tears.
Combine that with Nintendo somehow thinking that Galaxy 3 should also be a thing... Things aren't looking so good IMO. They might be looking better than they are for the Paper Mario series, but that ain't saying much.
-
honestly I don't like 3D collectathon platformers so more stuff like 3D World is ooookay by me
just add more playable characters and new level gimmicks/powerups and I'm set like the table
