I don't know MK seemed to me like the only person who he lost too was Whitebeard which is okay since he's the Strongest man in the world. I don't think Ace knew haki but I'm not ruling it out as impossible, and I'm sure there's a comment from Blackbeard that ace relied too heavily on his DF which is why he lost. I'd have to look for the panel
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Not to sure about that we had multiple crew members mention that they will negotiate with ' Mama ' to reach an agreement she seems to be like an understanding fine young lady, but I'll wait for the chapter to see what happens to Jinbe maybe she just relies on the spin wheel of death.
Actually van auger compliments his raw fighting ability even without his DF. Can adapt on anotice to being tangible.

ace beat luffy a rubber fruit user when he had even had eaten his fire fruit yet sure he is older but normal punches normally don't hurt luffy so ace had to be strong to beat luffy
-
I was more pointing out that Ace isn't weak and CoA doesn't translate to "blackening" the body.
Oh if that's the case were on the same page, I think this came up about Jimbe had Haki or not.

luffy didn't even know how to throw his basic Pistol attack, ace and Sabo beat him without much difficulty. Not just cause he's rubber but the fact that he was incapable of attacking either of the two.

Van auger was commenting on his basic fighting capabilities, just like how Hack wasn't able to train Sabo cause his fighting skills were too high to be trained.

Regarding the haki thing.. I think it's obvious Oda came up with the hardening process after the timeskip as a way to distinguish between those who can't use haki and those who can, especially since that divide was bound to be an important point as far as every fight in OP from now onward is going to be concluded. Given the status Ace had, I think it's very safe to assume he knew how to use haki. Regarding how well he used it, I think to a fairly high point in the haki scale Oda had back then. You guys are obviously reading too much into it. It doesn't make sense for someone to rank so high in the crew of a legendary pirate to lack the ability to use such an important tool that no competent NW pirate could sail without.

Plus he wanted to beat whitebeard so it would be stupid to think that he could beat the strongest person in the world without training the basics of haki.

https://dragonics28.wordpress.com/2016/06/26/one-piece-830-a-russian-roulette-were-everyone-wins/ I know it has been a long while, had somethings happen IRL that took me a long time to get over, still not completely over it but you know life goes on. Anyways thank you for reading. As for the topic going on right now, I enjoy the blackening of CoA quite a bit, even though Sai was using haki without the hardening affect. So it might be a more advance use of it. I think it will be great though if Oda can find a way to do it with CoO.
-
Was Whitebeard ever shown using haki except conqueror's(because this one doesn't count)? Wait! but it could be said it was Shanks displaying his haki not Whitebeard. Wait! how was he beating up Ace then? maybe he is a fishman karate practitioner, or hits him with vibrations from his fruit. Wait! he is an emperor, so? titles don't mean anything. Wait! but one of his soldiers said he hit Aokiji with it, so, you listen to fodders now?, and he didn't hit Aokiji.
That is what I think about when I read the discussion about Ace having haki or not./rant
How many of you think that the wedding will occur? Even if it is Sanji waiting at the coast, now that they need to wait for Pedro, they will most likely play along with the wedding to buy him time. Obviously the wedding will have an unexpected twist forcing them to act. Like Luffy eating the treat Mama is asking for before one of her fits.
-
Well, it's a little unclear in One Piece, but in general, any time a ship is sailing, you'd want someone at the wheel - otherwise, the motion of the water could move the rudder or even just alter the course of the ship. Not as huge a deal in our world (though not entirely inconsequential), but on the Grand Line, I think it would need constant supervision, and that certainly seemed to be an issue when they first entered the Grand Line.
This is definitely something to consider for me. I'm now much more in the "it was Nami in the armor" camp.

:'( To be fair, there is at least concrete proof that Whitebeard had armament and a non-ridiculous reason for believing Ace wouldn't need it.

Hahaha!
Oh my gosh! I'm sooooo happy!!!!!!!
I've been waiting for this conversation between Jinbe and his crew! I always imagined it would go something like this as well. I've been saying for years that Jinbe is the type who does everything for everyone else trying to be Super Man. I always looked at him like Robin, someone just weighed down who needs the Straw Hats to be free. Even in his cover story you can tell he'll go out of his way to help everyone because its the right thing to do but dang does he get tired of everyone else's ship!
Sometime in 2010 or 2011 I remember debating with people in person at a convention about Jinbe joining. I had no allies in that fight. It was a good 20 people surrounding us and listening in and no one saw things the way I had. The debate ended with me "losing" because everyone said Jinbe would only be an ally, this was before the blood transfusion scene mind you. I remember specifically mentioning that Jinbe does so much for everyone else that joining the Straw Hats would be something for his own sake. Mainly because joining Luffy would be the best way to aid human and fisherman relations, Luffy is the guy who could change the world after all. But at that anime convention the people(here too) rightfully told me that it would be impossible for Jinbe to be aware of something like that. For us as readers yes but not someone within the story. Thinking about it now though, doesn't it just make absolute perfect sense that a future Straw Hat would have all the faith in the world to know that by following Luffy they would have the best chances of realizing their dreams? Oh how I would love to see the faces of those people after the transfusion and after todays chapter!
Oh I'm so excited! Can you tell?!
Another thing of note is the designs of Jinbe's crew and after all this time we've only got one other named individual. Well 3 now if you count Wadatsumi and the new half hammer head. There is a look'alike of Vander Deckin's A/B in there, and some cool looking people like that Zora guitar player with hair coving his eyes but no one else really stands out with a design and personality that would help carry the plot forward.
Except for Aladine, all the important Fishmen and Mermaids appeared in the Tiger flash back and it looks like the random rest just followed Jinbe. With the sudden resolution of their feelings about Jinbe leaving, no given names and designs, to me it looks like they were always intended to be left behind somewhat as an after thought.
I mean I know they will continue to play a role as a group and maybe this opinion is too strong too soon but does anyone else see where I am coming from?
Not that its a bad thing and surely we will see more from a few of them later but seeing them all in one big group like that and just agreeing to let Jinbe go after seeing next to nothing of them is just interesting is all.
I don't want Jinbe losing a limb…

@sanji''s_dad:
A crown plus big mom pirates are known for attacking islands they control. So either they destroy, the kingdom or the kill the king and with kaido. Wants to go, there to take the mermaid princess. This makes more sense since then, big mom and beast pirates can attack each other.
What does that even mean? Can you please stick to the basics your school taught you about orthography and grammatics? The way you constantly choose to ignore those rules make you look impolite and trollish to every reader in here.
-
What does that even mean? Can you please stick to the basics your school taught you about orthography and grammatics? The way you constantly choose to ignore those rules make you look impolite and trollish to every reader in here.
One of the pictures on the board has a head with a crown on it which could mean the king or the kingdom so instead of Jinbe losing his head, arm or leg which the other 3 on the board mean she could just attack fishman island or kill the king we already know that big mom attacks islands that don't pay the candy fee for her protection and fishman island was going to get attacked but she made luffy her target instead of fishman island because luffy said he ate the candy plus luffy wants to protect fishman island.
if it lands on the head with the crown then Jinbe will not lose a body part and if you had read the cover storys then you would know that Drake from the beast pirates has caribou who found out about the mermaid princess so the beast pirates and big mom pirates might fight at fishman island if they both go there at the same time.
Law can also replace body parts that have been cut off or damaged which Law law did for brownbeard and his crew when had their legs damaged by Hawkins before the time skip so law can replace a arm or a leg if Jinbe loses them and luffy already wants to make fishman island his.
-
Law is most likely quite a ways away from the group. If anything I feel like it would be up to Chopper to perform the attachment surgery.
-
Law is most likely quite a ways away from the group. If anything I feel like it would be up to Chopper to perform the attachment surgery.
If Jinbe does lose a arm/leg then it will only be temporary if Chopper cannot fix it and Law has to do it however with the head that has the crown on the board it's more likely to be the kingdom than the king since more people would care about the kingdom than the king also it allows Jinbe to fight out at 100% this arc but Luffy plus going to take fishman island from big mom anyways plus Jinbe joining the crew means he can help the straw hats defend fishman island by joining fishman islands new protecters by having the straw hat flag being using instead of big mom's.
Back in fishman island Jinbe said that leaving her crew could mean trouble for fishman island and kaido would want the mermaid princess now that he can cannot get more smile fruit so both the big mom and kaido's beast pirates could come at the same time the beast pirates would attack the big mom pirates because they would think that the island is still under big mom's control.
.
Luffy could even destroy fishman island to stop kaido and big mom's forces going there since arlong's sister said luffy would destroy it.
we already know that Jack's forces keep going back to the zou so luffy either kills them or destroys the island they want to go to in order to stop them and he is less likely to kill them.
-
Great chapter, what will happen to jinbe!!?

Dunno, but I always felt that the prediction actually means that the fishmen dream about living on the surface would finally be accomplished with Luffy playing a huge role in it. Therefore, the fishmen no longer need to live in isolation but together with all humans without any discrimination. Then… there won't be any reason for Fishman Island to exist anymore.
Maybe Luffy will 'destroy' it as a symbolism of some sort, like what he did to Nami's cartography room in Arlong Park.

That's really nice. I imagined her blonde for some reason, but this works too.
Something just randomly occured to me, after reading this chapter title. Jinbe seems to be betting his limbs on Luffy. It reminded me how Shanks told WB he bet his arm on new age.
I sure hope Oda won't be repeating the limb betting with Jinbe. There's a greater potential for the story if FI is to be threatened by BM in the future, or something like that.

This is awesome. Somehow the colour scheme you gave her really fits her personality (it gives out a wild vibe, green eyes and fiery red hair). I also love the green nail polish. Brings out her eyes.

All right, VIZ vs. Mangastream, issue number…something.
- When talking about how he wants to join Luffy, in VIZ, he phrases his last bubble on the first page as "Doing so will ensure that my voyage wins true freedom for the Fishman race!" (Doesn't say anything specifically about a fight for it like in MS.)
- Aladdin's response on the next page: "You've told us plenty about Luffy in these past two years. I've always thought that if you felt that strongly about him, it was best for you to follow your heart."
- When telling Jimbei to live how he wants, the VIZ dialogue from his crew sounds a bit more focused on him being "free." "That's right! Be free, Jimbei! We want you to live your own life now!" I like this phrasing, since freedom is, of course, something that Luffy himself values very highly.
- Similar to last week with Jimbei, the name in the big block letters is changed to spell "Aladdin" from "Aladine" as it was in MS and presumably the raw. Again, probably for consistency's sake.
- Praline asks "What was that?! Did I hear you worrying about me just now?" instead of "My oh my, shouldn't you be worrying about lil ol' me?"
- She also doesn't say anything about "I thought our relationship was better than that" in VIZ. Just says (in that same speech bubble) "What's the big idea?! You can't let me in on your little secret?!" And after Aladdin responds to her with "Of course not," instead of adding "I'm sure I'll be able to negotiate with her!", he says "I was going to tell you!"
- Interestingly, the original version of MS (when it came out Thursday) switched from using "Master Muscat" to "Sir Moscato" like VIZ did. Since then, they've gone in the middle and are now using "Sir Muscat."
- Rather than Big Mom's vague stuff about "child" and "parent" from MS when talking about Jimbei leaving she specifically mentions it in context of "parent and child cups" (like the ones that came up during the Grand Fleet formation) in VIZ.
- A couple of differences when explaining Pedro's story: Carrot states that Pedro and Pekoms were "pirates together", Pedro states that "we" ended up with bounties; Pedro was only with Pekoms "and his group" part-way. Pedro states that it's "for [their] ears only" (rather than the "I'm only telling you this because . . ." from MS), and says he was looking for "a" poneglyph. Pedro suffered "a devastating defeat" there. Carrot responds with "Oh, I see" instead of "I had no idea", and Nami specifically asks why Pedro came since the place must have bad memories for him.
- Nami just says that the cape is, "the only weak point in the security net" instead of "[she's] heard" that security "doesn't make their rounds."
Also, to Kaido KotB and Angelos, in response to last week: sure, I'd be glad to put all this in a thread. I haven't had time to go back through yet and gather all of them up, but I should be able to do so later this evening.
-
^ I'd also like to add that Aladdin is still labeled as a fishman, rather than a merman, in VIZ. This will probably get fixed for the volume version
-

Thanks guys! The colours I gave her are kinda crazy, I wanted to make her a redhead due to freckles and give her green eyes to go with that, her clothes are brown and pink because of roses and praline sweets, and her bottom half is grey-blueish cause sharks. All those clash but I'm glad if you liked it :)
-
DoFlamingo murdered his own father & brother. He actively was out to exterminate every last person living in Dressrosa to protect his criminal empire/his rule over it as King.
I get the impression Big Mom is going to end up being a different animal altogether, she doesn't need to have a high body count to be an effective antagonist either. We already have a pretty good contrast between them too, while Doflamingo did indeed kill his father and brother he also made a point of expressing how he felt about both of them, with Big Mom there's no recognition of Moscato at all.
-
Big Mom to Luffy: "Life or treat?!"
Luffy: oh yeah i'd like a treat.Another translation note, Pedro says that the leaders of Zou didn't even show members of the Kozuki clan the poneglyph.
-
@Tamiel:

I think that was meant to read like this, "they showed you the poneglyph, you are our saviors yes but you aren't even members of the kozuki clan"
Besides they basically did show the Kozuki clan by tying Raizou to it. ;)

Knees weak arms are heavy

Big Mom's spaghetti -
So it is possible that what Jimbe looses is his home, so in that regard it would be in a certain way Luffy´s responsability. So the fate of fishman island would become true.
It hope so. That would be nice to finish off Fishman Island. They said her predictions were never wrong but that was the only one that never came to fruition.
-
I'd be pretty happy with Big Mom attempting an assault on Fishman Island. Though I can't help but feel Kaidou would get involved with that as well. After discovering what Shirahoshi means to a place like that I'd imagine they would go to war over having control over such a place.
Luffy Gear 4ing the island to bits on purpose so no one gets control over it would leave me pretty happy. Sharley's prediction is bound to happen only this time it should be the first time in forever where its a positive. I imagine this would take place before One Piece is found but after the the fall of the first Emperor and the Reverie.
Actually no, strike that, there will need to be some time for Fishman Island to survive on the Straw Hat's flag alone. Custody of Fishman Island somehow goes to the Straw Hats without Big Mom destroying it entirely or being her being outright defeated… I guess Sanji and some kind of pastry is going to solve this problem. So maybe Fishman Island does get destroyed after One Piece. I figure when One Piece is obtained Big Mom, Shank's and Kaidou will have all gone down. But maybe not? Maybe it's the government who tries to seize control of Shirahoshi and Fishman Island's wonderful geography that allows Poseidon to be even more potent.

The line in the Viz version is "Got that?! Every last second!!"
Which doesn't add a lot of clarity, but reads a lot easier as a snippet of conversation than what Mangastream did

Sometimes, I find myself appreciating just how talented Stephen is at translating things like this. It's meant to be ambiguous, yet just hinty enough for us to guess at what's going on. All that while sounding natural. It's harder than one might think.

I completely agree. Making text flow naturally while maintaining both accuracy and accessibility is probably the hardest part of being a translator, and I really admire Stephen for always doing such a great job. With that phrase in particular, I like that he found a way to get the point across in a concise and natural way that doesn't imply anything about the nature of this "second".
-
Yeah Stephen does his job very well. But what can I say? I taught him everything he knows.
I know nothing of how to read or write Japanese

I don't understand how mangastream can mess up names they already know such as Aladdin's lol.

Little did Pedro know, that Jimbe had given Big Mom the Poneglyph he wanted all along. Or is that too convenient?
-
@sanji''s_dad:

I think because Oda himself wrote it out and spelled it Aladine for the first time officially so Mangastream just went with that. Chances are Oda wanted it spelled exactly as we are all used to from the story books and just messed up. With Viz they went with something years ago and now they are just keeping it consistent.
@Tamiel:

Big Mom seems to have already had the Road Poneglyph which is shaded differently than the regular type that Jinbe gave her. What ever the case it will undoubtedly be important to the story and be a topic of interest during this very arc.

I do not think Pedro was looking for a Road Poneglyph. He should know there were 4, so him saying " I was looking for a Poneglyph" does not seem to fit. So if he was looking for another type of Poneglyph, I think chances are it is the one Jimbe found in those ruins, that were previously underwater. Hence why Pedro was close to Big Mom's territory looking for it but never did find it. Do you think the one Jimbe found says the location of one of the Ancient Weapons?

Well the Mink's seem to have pretty good knowledge on the location of 3 of the Road Poneglyphs. They have one and they know that Kaidou has one and Big Mom has one. I figured this information was known for a while and thats why Pedro was off trying to retrieve a Poneglyph from Big Mom years ago.
The one Jinbe found just seemed like it was lost to time being under water and all. I can't imagine anyone really knew it was there. I'd imagine if the Mink's knew were other Poneglyphs were and had the means to bring them back, in all these years wouldn't there be more than 1 in the Whale Tree?
I feel like Jinbe just randomly found one out of the blue, literally, and I feel like Pedro went off to Big Mom's territory specific for the Road Poneglyph they knew she had.

If you put it that way, I think they would have been searching for the one no one knows where it is. I agree on the Jimbe part, that is why I said too much of a coincidence? But it came from the idea that Pedri was looking for another type of Poneglyph not the road one.
-
Maybe the last poneglyphs weren't made during the end of the void century?…The information was given to the Kaizouki clan(wrong spelling?) and they could've created them shortly after or went on to producing them for hundreds of years after the void century. I don't know how long it takes to create 1 poneglyph. I mean they're indestructible, must've taken a while to carve them out lol

Sometimes, I find myself appreciating just how talented Stephen is at translating things like this. It's meant to be ambiguous, yet just hinty enough for us to guess at what's going on. All that while sounding natural. It's harder than one might think.
Hey Bond, yep I agree.
Ps: gonna PM you in a sec

@sanji''s_dad:
I don't understand how mangastream can mess up names they already know such as Aladdin's lol.
They didn't mess up anything, they wrote it like Oda did.

Same about Ener. If he goes in the NW, he'll get a bounty around 500millions ( as Oda said ), he'll be able to defeat lot of haki users because his DF is very powerful.
Anyway. I don't care about pursuing this conversation. I'll stop there.

Don't really care about the specifics, just want to point out you just used the worst example, since Enel is confirmed to have Haki.

this.
haki was introduced fairly late in the series.
if haki is a concept that is available from the very beginning, there is no way someone like ace or croc wasn't shown using haki.
it just happened that ace, croc, jinbe are 'old' chars which were introduced before haki is established.
Haki was introduced in chapter 1. It's pretty rare before the NW but we still see it regularly.

My exemple is valid, he doesn't use the Armaments haki. It's confirmed here actually http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/597/12 but whatev, it's not like the conversation is interesting me.

It most likely wasn't Haki back then. Haki is a concept that was probably retroactively put into the story once Oda realized he was making DFs too powerful and needed a common power that anyone could have so they could actually put up a fight.

I see it as Haki being introduced since Ch.1, but still under development. Then Skypiea came and introduced Mantra which would be shown later as Observation Haki. At Sabaody, Haki was fully developed with three different types: Observation, Armament, and Conqueror's with only certain people being able to use the last one.
