Color Spread this week was definitely an eye-catcher, some of Oda's best work.
@TLC:
This was far better set up, foreshadowed and has big implications for the story. It has a feeling of karmic balance . It also raises a lot of questions. Who is the elephant, who ordered him to walk to the ends of time, what is this mysterious ability to hear voices certain people have. The shit in Toriko is Shima just being bored and wanting to move on to something else. This had a purpose. Besides Jack will obviously be back. And this doesn't hurt his threat level in the slightest because he got taken out by something that would take anyone out. Plus, this wasn't just some incoherent action, it was a nice, simple moment perfectly depcited to give the moment a lot of impact. The elephant swiped and wiped out a fleet. And again, that karmic justice is so satisfying.
@ladyhawke:
Yep elephants defeating pirates like they were nothing but flies. Jack deserved it tbh.
@BellisarioFaith:
Hahahahahahahahaha, I loved that! Jack the Jackass, after everything he did to the Minks, goes out like a little bitch at the hands of their living island! Perfect. I was one of the people who was expecting Luffy to battle him, but I'm not even close to being disappointed by how things turned out. It was great!
I'm a stickler for poetic justice so what happened to Jack was nothing short of cathartic, hands down the highlight of the chapter.
@STP_PS:
Sorry Daz but I feel the need to disagree here. Jack was not discarded because we needed to "get on with the story" as you said. He made a decision and went with it, unfortunetely for him he didn´t have enough intel to tell that the Elephant the size of an island with a whole country on its back could retaliate, nor that the person who could grant the being permission was riding him at the moment.
God I am thoroughly happy that it went like this, honestly for a billion belli man Jack needs an extra billion neurons in his brain. I swear that any animal has more common sense than this guy.
Not only he decides to kill an island size animal. For reference those who spoke about Pica's golem size are not even close, It would be better to compare Zunisha to Alabasta, Drum or Dressrosa which are Islands that harbour Counties. Look at the word, country not cities, nor towns but country. For reference King kong gun destroyed a town or city partially. And Pica was the size of a City at most (Though this is not a small size to consider at all) and yet we are speaking of a country here.
Now the Mammoth Genius decides to attack Zunisha, and head on just because, not even by the back? lol I am actually getting pissed when analysing this guys actions. (Ok, I will grant Daz that I got pissed seeing how brain Dead a Yonkou commander can be) I hope the other 2 calamities have better brain connections. It is sound and good to attack a knee to make an elephant fall but from the 4 you take one from the rear right? no he went with one of the 2 from the front; at least he should try to avoid being seen but no the guy instead makes his fleet approach all together just like pins in a bowling runway. Who gave the tittle to this guy?
You seem taken aback by this. Jack strikes me as the type of person one would employ because of how cold blooded they are, not for strategic ability or even having good leadership skills. The guy is all brawn and savage brutality, given everything we know about Kaido so far, having a high ranking subordinate who only cares about leaving a trail of dead behind him sounds about right. I also got the impression that Jack coming across as more beast than man was the intended effect his character is suppose to have.
