Chapter 816: "Dog Vs. Cat"
-
Oh, this is unexpected :D
-
Alright, Break next week. No one asks this question for 2 weeks, understand?
Now, who will say that One Piece is predictable now? Huh? HUH?!
-
Well I'm not a big fan of this twist and how it was made. Especially the fact that all the minks knew makes little sense to me.
-
Awesome chapter but one question… Inuarashi says in one panel how many years have it been they have seen each other?
How can this be? Hasn't bot of them being next to each other at the time Jack cut their limbs?

Or has Inuarashi fell unconscious before
-
Damn, amazing chapter and twist. Nice.

Those are two different panels. They are not actually next to each other.
-
What the hell already ??
Does that mean that… I've managed to avoid spoilers ???? YAY ! -

I don't know if it is relevant, but the crosses are all facing opossite directions.

Why wouldn't all the minks know?

I guess the fact that all the minks knew is ok. The weird part it that they didn't tell the Strawhats. Hope it gets explained.
-
Wow, what a chapter! Absolutely loved the twist. Can't say I saw that coming at all.

Maybe you are right. Interpreted it wrong. Thanks

Mink tribe is da bestStill even if they were together, that wouldn't count as them meeting.
-
Now that is what you a call being a famliy \a really good friend .
-
Loved that last page, esp. Master Nekomamushi (he's quickly became my fave mink!) I liked both the bottom panel of him declaring they'd never rat out a friend even if it meant their kingdom's destruction. I also like panel above it where he's placing a hand on Usopp's head.
Hmmm, Usopp was deeply moved by the honor of the two giants on Little Garden. It left a lasting effect on Usopp, not only did he want to go visit Elbaf one day but he also was the one to befriend Oimo & Kashi on Ennis Lobby and got them to turn against the WG and help the invading forces.
Wonder if this will leave a similar mark on Usopp -
Kougetsu family… Now this is interesting as well. Kinemon's family seems special if they are befriended with zou.
I really want to know what Wano is alike right now and what the other "families" are. How axactly the organization is and so on.

They were keeping a secret which is incredibly remarkable.
They are the complete opposite of Fukurou:wassat:.This tribe is amazing for the sake of a friend they can see their whole history destroyed. Among the tribes visited nor merfolks, fishmen, dwarves or Giants(despite their honor which is outstanding as well) has shown this level of backbone. I just found the OP tribe I love most!!

Shhh! No one is better than Fukurou at keeping secrets! :getlost:

Gosh that revelation struck me out of nowhere. The day I didn't read spoilers, on top of all !! Beautiful.

It's perfect that all the minks knew. It's not right for leaders to decide a country's destruction without people not knowing the reason. And They didnt' know the strawhats were with the samurai as the straw hats have been trying to hide that fact themselves. THere is no reason to release such a big secret to your saviors. Especially for people whom you just recently met.
-
I dont think anyone saw this coming. Oda does it again.

This is by far the most touching chapter I have read from One Piece, I love this twist!

The Straw Hats were not associated with the Samurai, for all the minks knew.
Kin'emon and Kanjuro were stuck outside Zou, and Momo was on his eel form and shut down inside a room.
-
Wow. Simply amazing. I really did not expect the Minks to be on good terms with the Samurai. This changes so much on what could possibly happen from here on out. Now I'm wondering how soon it's going to be before we meet Raizou.
-
Didn't see that coming
-
-
I can already see Sawyer's, KoL, RogersBase and Fornever's reaction. Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
-
I strongly believe he reads the threads on this site
Awesome Chapter by the way. -
There's no need to be rude. He was just asking a question.
Having the same question asked each time (which is off-topic), even though it is mentioned in the chapter they read AND in the first couple of posts of the topic they are posting in. Yeah, ignorant people like that do not deserve nice answers.
-
Now, where it was said in the Spoiler Thread that Raizo is a bat?
-
I shed tears while reading the last pages of this chapter. Oda is a genius of genius, my heart is moved.
-
Tears… just... can't... stop.... droping....
They're so nice...
Best tribe ever....

I usually go through One Piece chapters really fast on my first read. This was the first time I got "stuck" on a page for a some time (the one with the big revelation, obviously). I just kept staring at it.
Oh, and by the way, after the revelation, Franky's probably gonna dehydrate from all the crying and is gonna need treatment by Chopper.
-
Feel so bad for Jack and co :( they were right after all and it also explains why he went to such lengths to retrieve Raizou from the lying minks.
-
In this chapter of One Piece, it shows Fairy Tail what friendship truly means. Not that you will win because you are fighting for your friends, but you will risk your life and culture just to help them.
The chapter was already interesting with Duke and Master fighting, but it was the last part that truly made this great. The fact that the samurai's presence stopped the fight immediately was already great, showing that the matter at hand was more important than their petty squabble. Then the fact that the two of them bowed down at the same time saying that Raizo was safe was really great. First of all it reminded me of Fujitora bowing down, where a powerful figure showed humility among others, but in this case it's two rulers bowing to a retainer. They didn't even do this for Luffy and the crew, the people who saved their damn country. This shows just how deep the friendship between the country and the Wano family is. It was a nice twist that truly showed the greatness of the Mink tribe. It also throws out the idea of the minks being secondary antagonists for the time being.
Next is we know that Raizo is not just a Samurai, but from a very important family as he is given the -dono honorific by the two kings. With such importance we know why Kaido's people would be after him. Most likely by having a large name in their hands they could force negotiation Wano into becoming their territory, since they are one of the few islands not under control. This all but confirms that the antagonist of the arc will be Jack returning to get Raizo. I have a feeling Jack knew that Raizo was on the island and was waiting for someone to break. We had last chapter where Pekoms showed how much a Yonko knew, such as the fact as Sanji being at the Okama island (A place controlled by the revolutionaries). It would not surprise me if Kaido knew of the relationship between Wano and Zou, and Jack would know that information. The main question at this time is when will he return?
I also like how this was a twist that doesn't leave a cliffhanger, but really makes me excited for what's going to happen next. What is the history behind this family and the island that they would do all this for one person? When are we going to meet Raizo and get more details on the Samurai's mission? Has Nekomusashi reached the pinnacle of awesomeness, or is he going to become even better as the arc goes on? Oda could've easily made the last page where the Minks are facing the Samurai and have us wait until next chapter for this revelation. Instead we got this and I'm excited to see more character interaction instead of action. It's a nice change of pace from Dressrosa.
So far for me, every chapter this year has been great, but I'm inclined to say this is my favorite so far because of the last part.
-
-
A truly moving chapter and completely unexpected twist. Zou is shaping up really well, here's to hoping it won't take the Dressrosa road
-
now that is what i call a twist. I don't think i read any theories predicting this
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
i love that momo cant keep his eyes off nami's chest lol.
-
the tears, oh man what a good chapter
-
I'm guessing Bariete yelling about "It's bad! Samurai have come! Oh no!" is some sort of subtle translation error.
I like the way this went down; overt hostility and conflict because of the samurai would've felt kinda shallow and reflected badly on the minks, but instead they get another injection of likeability. Well, mostly everyone aside from Nekomamushi are a bit undercooked still, but Nekomamushi (and Dog-king) both come off looking good here.
My only gripe is with the panel layout and pace of the chapter; its a bit too frenetic for me, I kinda want for some bigger, less crowded panels to let events "simmer" a bit before they proceed. It feels like a some "connentive tissue" has been cut to get us to the to dramatic payoff in the chapter; its still neat, but I feel it could've hit harder… like if, say, there'd been a short beat before the spread where Neko and Inu were approaching, and there was tension because their reaction was still unclear, and everyone was waiting anxiously. Maybe them them kneeling getting highlighted in a bigger, focused panel to sell the surprise.
And the same thing applies to Catking and Dogking seeing each other, and their instantly interrupted solitary clash. The placement of the flashbacks is also a little off; of course they're triggered because of the mentioning of the different limbs, and serves to highlight how much sympathy we should have for the Kings, but in the context of Neko and Inus confrontation, the momentum of said confrontation is killed. The flashbacks do not relate to the rivalry of Catking and Dogking, so the confrontation is paused until the flashbacks are done, after which it instantly flares up again - "...as I was saying, Fuck You!"
But thats just me. Nice events, minks are badass, I just with they'd been given slightly more room to breathe.
-
@Helter:
I guess the fact that all the minks knew is ok. The weird part it that they didn't tell the Strawhats. Hope it gets explained.
Yes I don't understand that part at all. Worse the samourai knows that they know and they don't tell the strawhat either.
And why Bariete is saying "this is bad this is bad".
And why is Momo going outside exactly at the same time Kinemon and Kanjouro appear. That's a weird coincidence.
So all in all there are plenty of things I'm not really pleased with this chapter. -
That's one hell of a twist, I like that.
-
So, what are the odds one of Jack's man / a Denden Mushi / a spy has caught wind of the 'Raizou-dono is safe' statement?
