after 10 sec of heavy workout normal humans have reduzed their sugar and ATP in the muscles to zero, after this they burn fat and protein… thats why luffy needs alot of meat :)
and luffy is just sweating cause his muscles and cells are producing so much energie because they get alot more oxigen then normal, so the body tries to cool im down and old sweat is evaporating...
Now that Gear 2nd is explained…
-
-
Watching 273 left me with a big question.
We have already Lucci
s explanation about Gear 2 and a lot of discussion here, but I don
t understand yet some of Luffy`s statements about "soru":Luffy: when you guys… disappear when you move
Luffy: I saw you kick the ground in the same place 10 times or more
Luffy: I got the hang of it. I’m glad to learn there’s a move like thatIt seams that Luffy had the idea of Gear 2nd from "soru", but I really cant make the relation of "gear 2nd dopping" and hitting the ground…. Hitting the ground reminds me of a Kenshin episode...
Well any ideas?
-
"soru" is used by hitting the ground 10 times with your feet while in one spot, incredibly fast (invisible to the naked eye).
Luffy, because of Gear 2nd is able to do this without a problem because of the speed increase it gives him. He thanks the CP9 for showing him how to do it because now he can do it himself.
-
I thought gear 3rd was where Luffy bites his thumb to open up a wound. Then he blows an incredible amount of air straight into his body, increasing the volume of a particular body part. Breathing deeply would only make his lungs/stomach grow, but by blowing air directly into his bloodstream/body, he can control which body part gets large. This however does not explain why he turns chibbi after the gear is done.
-
Luffy's not boiling, but he is sweating like crazy. It's just coming out so fast it's a fine mist.
Luffy's pink because blood is getting pressed against his skin.
Luffy's stronger because blood is being pumped to his muscles faster, so they're able to obtain and consume sugar faster, get more calcium for muscle contraction, and clean out the lactic acid faster.
Luffy's life is shortening because all his organs are being crushed. Rubber helps, but he's not immune. Don't worry. Chopper's a miracle worker.
Done. G2 explained.
G3: it's a cartoon. Nothing else matters.
Now find stuff to do, like educating yourselves.
Bueno! Excellente!
I would like to add that heart rate and blood pressure while seemingly independant are in fact linked.
Rapid weak palpitations do not raise the bloodpressure at all. Slow strong beats the same, but when you have a heart like lance armstrong and your beating at 180 BPM you are damn certainly going to have a bloodpressure that is spiking 300, damn near fatal in fact.
The hearts atria aren't going to pop due to uneven distribution unless that is the pre-existing nature of that heart. IE if you have a weak heart then yes its gonna pop.
As the speed of the bloodflow increases, the impact of the fluid molecules on the sides of the bloodvessels is going to increase, meanign that the pressure is going to increase. Its just like a garden hose. When you turn up the water you get more volume per second, and the hose becomes stiff. The same deal with luffy. If his heart and legs are pumping blood trough the circuit 8 times faster than normal, the bloodflow past a given point is 8 times more in a given time, thus it is like going from a trickle to a flood. Hence high pressure.

I have a feeling that all this is just a bit TOO exaggerated…
as far as Gear 3rd goes for me... it just looks like Luffy blows into the opening he makes from biting his thumb... does it really all hafta be so scientifically valid? -

However, it's still logically possible for Luffy to pump air into his bones, and have that air move around his body because Luffy's bones are porous rubber.
It looks like Luffy's becoming more and more rubberlike, because he doesn't seem to bleed after biting through his thumb. Or maybe he just regenerates quickly.
-
Luffy still needs to overcome one of his weaknesses; heat. Without that, he will not be able to beat Aokiji (unless he covers himself with salt?). I think he will find a way to heat his rubber body up through some other technique (Gear 2 - Heat?) because Gear 2 & Gear 3 are still useless (???) against Logias. Maybe by making himself hotter he can fight Smoker evenly too (like Ace and the Mera Mera fruit). This is all speculation though, I'm sure I will be surprised by what happens.
Also, now that Luffy knows Soru (kind of), can he Geppou too? It is a similar kicking the air / ground repeatedly technique, so it would make sense if he could do that as well.
On another note, I just watched Ep. 273, and Gear 2 looks pretty cool animated :cheerful:
-
Actually, Luffy's much more resistant to heat (& cold) than a normal human. It's a property of rubber to be resistant to heat, shock, cold, pressure, vacuum, stress, and more. Oda didn't randomly choose rubber as Luffy's superpower.
The only weaknesses that rubber has is friction and shear. Friction is part of its uses, but rubber doesn't have the tensile strength to withstand its friction. That's why rubber erasers leave little rolls of rubber after usage. Rubber is also easily cut when stretched, since it is made of polymer fibers; thus, it is a fabric.
Examples of Luffy's resistance to heat: Eneru's molten gold would have melted the skin right off a normal person's arm. Luffy only got light burns. In Drum, he could barely feel the cold at first, because his skin is a more effective insulator. However, in excessive exposure, rubber weakens from both extreme heat and extreme cold. Luffy still suffered frostbite in Drum, during the climb up the cliff in a blizzard.
Ao Kiji beat Luffy easily, because he's a god in comparison to the Strawhats. Ao Kiji's powers are beyond nature. Leaving an ocean frozen in a tropical sun for a week is nearly impossible. The saline water lowers the freezing point, the currents can easily break the ice, and the sun melts it. Ao Kiji seems to have created an ice crystal structure that can withstand heat and stress. In addition, it seems he can freeze anything, even rubber, wax, and plastic. By freezing I mean make brittle, not just solid.
It'll be a long way to go before Luffy can defeat Ao Kiji, IMO. Gear 2 may increase his speed greatly, but Luffy isn't producing extreme heat. The mist that comes out isn't steam. It's sweat. (Retrospectively, I do not know what I was thinking when I supported the boiling blood thought…) Thus, Gear 2 can't do anything against Aokiji still. Gear 3 may have a slightly better chance of defeating the admiral, but his arm would be skewered and frozen even more easily.
Now, what if Luffy could move so fast that his punches create shockwaves and sonic booms? That could hurt Ao Kiji a lot because crystals shatter from the pressures in a shockwave.
Here's some next Gear possibilities
Gear 4: Luffy softens and warms his body to become very fluid and ultraelastic; thus, he moves even faster than Gear 2, and bounces hits back and forth without losing any significant speed from collisions.
Gear 5: Following Gear 4, Luffy winds a body part so that it can hit reallyhard. Think Popeye's twister punch, except this time, it unwinds so fast that it moves several times the speed of sound.edit: In Gear 5, Luffy should wind his arms, torso, and legs for the supersonic rifle hit. I think it'll have effects like a Gauss gun. In Gear 4, his punches can actually accelerate faster and faster.
-
Gear 4:…Sounds like the Octopus Rampage Luffy used against Enel.
Gear 5: Gomu Gomu no Rifle ring a bell? -
Gear 4:…Sounds like the Octopus Rampage Luffy used against Enel.
Gear 5: Gomu Gomu no Rifle ring a bell? They are what they sound like, except even faster and stronger. So it's different in that aspect.
Luffy's moves have always been an altered version of a previous move. Rifle is just Pistol with a wind-up. Cannon is just Bazooka with a different style of charge up. Storm is Gattling but with arms pulled back further. Bullet is just a Bazooka style of Pistol. Missile is just Rocket by holding onto his opponent.
-
Instead of increasing the stregnth of his old attacks ( altering them to make the stronger, as igetownd mentioned), perhaps he will mix his attacks more ( like he using Balloon and Gattling Gun to create Storm).
If he does mix moves, the most power (and perhaps dangerous to not only his opponent, but himself as well) would be a Gumo Gumo No Storm while in Gear Second with Gear 3 in both arms.
Although, can he use Gear 3 in both arms? He creates a small puncture in his thumb by biting it, then blows air into that arm. Of course, he can't keep it within that arm because, if he did, it would all just blow back out threw the hole he created. I guess it could be possible to have Gear 3 in both arms if he could close the small puncture hole somehow.

I don't think we know the extent of the power of Gear 3 yet to know if he can inflate two limbs at a time, etc.
-
Well maybe if he bit his lip then blew hard enough into that…he could transfer the air into his arms?..or he could have super lips..take a bite out of lucci...or smother him ewwww man on man
-
Why does this keep happening?
Gear 3 is not Luffy biting his finger and blowing into the wound. Have you ever blown into an open wound and seen your skin inflate? OR have you started hemorrhaging because you're blowing into an open bleeding wound?
If we study Popey and Mr Fantastic (of the fantastic 4 series) we notice that:
When a hero wishes to make his villain go flying in a very cartoony manner with the villain dissapearing into the sky he must
-Place finger in his mouth
-Close mouth around finger
-Begin blowing air from inside heroes body onto finger
-The finger acts as a cork thus the air backflows back into the body
-For cartoon logical/elastic body reasons the body then expands
-The expanded body can then be redirected to the arms
-And the arms full of air somehow react like steroid filled muscle man arms
Result = The villain goes flying.Luffy does not blow air into an open wound he creates by biting on his finger..
-
I just thought that Luffy was just blowing though….however, it seems he bites though...... just like blowing up a rubber ball....... if there is no holes, how are you going go blow yourself up?

Why would he create a cork with his thumb when he could just use Gum Gumo No Balloon and get the same effect?
Also, when he uses Gear 3, you can see the air enters in the arm of the thumb he blows in. If it goes the way you say it, then we should first see the air fill up in his stomach. But we don't. We see it fill in the arm of the thumb he blew the air into.
-
Look if you haven't seen Popey or Mr Fantastic do it it's too much trouble to explain, and I'm too lazy for that shit.
If he is blowing air into an open wound then Oda is a freaking moron because that's about as ridiculous as crap can get, not only would it go against physics (which it does now) but it would go against the circulatory system which seeks an escape during an open wound thus would cause him to leave a huge stretched out opening into the inside of his body by biting into his thumb and we could see into his bone/veins.
Whatever when Oda explains it, he'll explain it. -
Also, why would he bite his thumb at all if he was just going to use it as a cork?
-
I haven't seen Mr. Fantastic do that before.
But Popeye is the worst analogy to make if you want a logical explanation.
-
Read the Onslaught series, he pumps up his muscles there the same way, except it's full body.
And popey is the same thing, not an analogy, but a comparison of equals.
-
For me it was more like Warner/Hanna Barbera cartoons blowing their thumbs to make their hands bigger and stronger.
-

The problem with saying Popeye and Luffy are equal is the fact that Popeye is not a rubber man.
Anyway, I don't have access to Marvel or DC comics so I can't read the Fantastic 4.
-
If Luffy were just using his thumb as a cork, how on earth would the air be getting into his bones? That just be retarded. Of course biting into his thumb bone and inflating that, then being able to redirect the air through other bones isn't much better.
-
Redirecting the air in his bones does make some sense. He just flexes certain muscles to push the air someplace else.
-

this is what I'd like to know… how does he get the air into his bones?... that .. is just plain nuts.
-
Apparently, Luffy blows air into his thumb through his skin and muscle tissue. Also apparently, Luffy's full of hollow air passages, even in his bones.
-
An explanation for gear 2 and 3? Luffy ate a devil fruit that turned him into a rubber human. Devil fruit's are magical. Ipso facto gear 2 is magic, and so is gear 3. There. Problem sovled.

why are u getting so pissed when u hvaen't even read the chapter where luffy himself says he's blowing into his bones?
u're being ignorant and arrogantly so..
-
As far as I am concerned, Luffy does blow air into his thumb and into his arm. The people who say the thumb is used as a cork, that's wrong.
Why would Luffy bite his thumb at all if he was going to use it as a cork?
Why would air be seen going threw the arm he blew air into if he was using the thumb as a cork? If it was only a cork, the air would be seen going into his chest first. Also, he doesn't even need to use his thumb as a cork if by what those people are saying is true. All he would have to do is use a Gumo Gumo No Balloon to get the exact same effect. -

but gomu gomu no fussion doesn't go into his bones… he needs to get the air into his bones first.

Guys, if you truely want the answer to how Gear 3 works, think really hard at what kind of abilities Luffy has.

Sounds like you dont know and youre trying to sound smart.
When Luffy blows, he isnt necessarily biting his thumb if you look at the picture it doesnt really look like hes biting it.

Alright, looks like you have no clue.
Devil Fruits are known to alter our perceptions of reality, and lo and behold, Luffy's a DF user! Thus, he can do things that are impossible, like putting air into his thumb and through the bones. He's just abusing his DF like no one ever thought of before.
Rubber is porous; thus he can do this on the basis that there are air passage ways in his body. Real rubber doesn't actually have connecting air tunnels, but Luffy believes whatever he wants, and somehow that allows him to defy reality and nature.
-
Luffy isn't blowing air in his thumb.:getlost:

Hard to say really. What you see, isn't necessarily what's happening. There's no real clear cut explanation other than it's Devil Fruit related.

Come on, spending too much time trying to disect cartoon physics isn't cool.
Anyone else think Luffy's Gear 2nd isn't shortening his life, like original translations suggested? Some translations have suggested that the drawbacks of Gear 3 are short term instead of long term, weakening him to the point where Lucci could cream him easier.
Sort of like the Kaio-ken from Dragonball. I wouldn't put it past Oda to have it work like that, seeing as he's a huge Dragonball junky.

I think actual dialogue said it's withering away his life, as in withering away his health (and stamina). However, either way, Chopper can extend everyone's lives as long as they don't die. Remember Dr. Kureha?
-
I seriously doubt Chopper has that power.
-
Gear 2 causing life to wither away sounds almost reasonable, at least to me.
You know, somebody who actually knows what he's talking about is ought to correct me but I was just thinking: G2 accelerates metabolism, right, and if metabolism is connected to life span (as creatures with slow metabolism has long life span and creatures with fast metabolism has short life span) then hypothetically G2 could indeed eat Luffy's life span. Also isn't metabolism releated to release rate of free radicals? So… wait. Ah, forget it. I don't remember anymore what I was thinking.
