There is a lot we dont know about the One For All quirck. Its implied that the previous user has to die to complete the exchange.
-
I'm more interested in how the whole transition starts tbh
-
I wonder if it's going to be similar to Kid's transition to become a full shinigami (I didn't finished reading Soul Eater, but you guys know the idea behind that concept, I hope).

Today's doodle:
! @Kaze:
yeah but they were previously in a huge tournament, where most of if not all of the heroes were there watching, so it's funny to not even recognize who some one is that they may have just seen fight.
To be fair, Deku is (in-universe) fairly plain looking, so they probably don't remember enough distinctive features to recognize him in different clothes and in a middle of a battlefield.

Quirks seem to be based in (special magical) DNA, so Deku eating All Might's hair caused the OFA DNA to spread through his body and bind to his normal DNA. Assumingly, the previous user has to will themselves to transfer it, as it would be really easy to transfer by accident otherwise.
There's probably more to it than that (we don't know anything about the whole Avatar shit), but that's what we can figure out so far.

I think that's the joke, his name in Japanese is akin to John Smith in America.

Not exactly. His name isn't that run of the mill, but it lacks the punny/says-what-it-is-on-the-tin qualities of other characters' names
-
Stain's look and ideology is straight out of a 90's Image comic. He's even got Pitt-esque lack of a nose!
-

I was more making the point that it's a plain name.
I don't think I've ever met anybody actually named John Smith, that's usually reserved for secret agents that want to seem normal. Is it really that common in real life?

There's more John Smiths then there are people with my Last Name, crazy.
Still never met a John Smith before, and at .01% of the population its understandable.

Chapter 52 spoilers:
!
! I have no idea what's going on in those panels -
Really been enjoying Shigaraki's role in the last few chapters.
He's sooooo Vegeta.

Vegeta? Well if that's the case…
Shigaraki is the Peridot of the series

! Not sure how I feel about Todoroki coming to save Deku and Iida. I'd rather have it be Gran Torino or Endeavor because we knew they're around. It just puts Iida even more in the shadows of his classmates than he already was.
! But I must say: The art is simply amazing. Can't remember the last time I saw such a distinctive yet impressive artstyle. -

To be fair to Todoroki's appearance, Endeavor already showed up and is dealing with the weaker Noumus, and I think it was hinted that Todoroki was interested in working with his pops (and I'm gonna guess showing him up or something along those lines or maybe to get over the idea that he's just a product of his father), so it's not unreasonable for Todoroki to be in the area.

! Oh right, forgot about that. Then it really isn't out of nowhere, I guess.
! Some more observations:- It seems like Stain is rather impressed of Deku who keeps his fighting stance even though he's clearly terrified.
- I noticed that it most probably was Deku himself who notified Todoroki that they're in danger. He has his cellphone behind his back and Todoroki is looking at his own in the end.
- Stain's quirk seems to have something to do with his own blood on his sword, are there similar scenes in the last couple of chapters that would support this theory? I should take a look

! Yeah, Stain's probably relatively impressed that Deku's sticking around and, more importantly, not fronting about being a hero unlike Iida who came here just for bloodlust. and yeah, his quirk probably involves licking the blood to immobilize his enemies

! But I must say: The art is simply amazing. Can't remember the last time I saw such a distinctive yet impressive artstyle.! In the case of Stain, I think it's especially important for him to fight many of the important students since most of them are idealists seriously interested in helping people. Stain is all about reforming hero culture and bringing it back to its noble roots and a lot of Class 1-A has that potential. Todoroki is a better choice to face him than say Bakugou because his motivations are stronger. That said, I do think Stain should eventually be driven off by a top-notch pro hero. Gran Torino and Endeavor have the potential for some interesting dialogue with him.
! And yeah, the art is utterly fantastic. It might be my favorite manga purely in terms of aesthetics. -
! Deku sent a text to Todoroki.
-
Hoh, I haven't done this in a while. Here's a summary:
! The chapter starts off with a mini flashback with Deku linking together the appearance of the Noumus and the fact that they're in the city where Stain was last seen. He correctly deduces that the Hero Killer is working together with the mastermind from the USJ invasion, and scours all the alleys he's likely to be in.
! Back at the present time, Deku asks if Iida is ok, and Iida tells Deku that Stain's quirk appears to stop your body's movement after being cut.
As Deku tries to think up a plan to contact the pro heroes and get both Iida and the unconscious hero to safety, Iida tells him that it's none of his business and to stay out of it!
! Deku senses an immense killing intent different from the villains of USJ. Thinking quick, he sends a text to someone, then plans to buy some time.
Iida keeps telling Deku to piss off but Deku replies that All Might once told him.
Butting into other people's business is what being a hero is all about.
This enthrals Stain.
! As they clash, Iida notes how similar Deku's movements are to Kacchan.
After a successful 5% Smash, Deku lands and is suddenly unable to move!
It appears he was cut, but just barely.
He further discerns that it's not the cut that's causes it, it's the blood!
! Stain believes that there's value in keeping Deku alive.
As he moves in closer to Iida, he's blasted by a sudden rush of fire and ice!
"Midoriya, in situations like these, you should put more info in your texts."
"Then I wouldn't have been late." -
Portuguese version is already out
! Nice chapter, but it's getting a little bit overcrowded. Stain's quirk definitely involves his and/or his victim's blood.
-
He seems so Obito so far…
BLASPHEMY.
Seriously though, I think Shigaraki is way too cool, and will become way too popular to stay a villain for the duration of the story.
Add that to his extremely flimsy and narrow minded view that brings him to the conclusion that he hates heroes.
If that reasoning doesn't get turned around with an impassioned Deku/All Might speech at some point, I'll be surprised.
-
I actually hope he doesn't become an hero. I prefer him as someone trying to get things moving than seeing the light of the main characters.

The art in this series is so great, just Stain's expressions, Deku preparing his punch and then Todoroki showing up at the end.
-
Overall I liked the chapter and the art is really getting better every week.
But Deku deciding to search for Stain on the middle of the fight with the Noumus and finding Iida in just a short time is a bad narrative decision. I'm not asking for master level writing out of a shonen manga but the author didnt thought things clearly this time.
-
Fantastic chapter as usual but the translation felt a bit awkward in places, most noticeably on the first and last pages.
-
Does anyone knows the popularity poll?
-
a cool entrance that heats up the situation

What do you mean? Midoriya pretty much explains his thought process to find Iida and Stain.
Sure he had some luck, but he did use probability to help with his search.
-
That was a great chapter.
Iida will become the next Sasuke.
First: His attitude when he was telling Deku to not helping him.
Second: He mightve felt butthurt when Stain said Deku was worth keeping alive and he wasnt.
-

Explaining it doesnt means that I buy the explanation. It was one of those moments where trying to make sense out of it only makes things worse.
-
Nice color spread.
I guess its a Japan only popularity poll. Too bad.Good chapter. Happy Deku isn't taking on Stain alone. Way too early in his career for that.
Hell, lets keep texting in more students. Have Iida make a facebook page while on the ground. -

Well, that hero called for Iida, so Deku thought that he would be in trouble since he was missing. But, I agree with you, it was too sudden and there was no indication that Stain would be around.
-

Midoriya just followed patterns. That was it.
Stain was known for killing at least 4 heroes in a given city. And most of the time, those happened in dark alleys.
When Midoriya found out that Iida had gone missing, he searched for the dark alleys near the normal hero office, because that's where he and the normal heroes patrolled.
He also used OFA to move faster as well.
2 + 2 = 4. Midoriya is smart, so this kind of stuff was not hard for him to piece together. Sure he had luck, but it wasn't random.

What's with Todoroki showing up of nowhere? Is there any actual explanation for this besides "I got a text"?
Using two "Shows up in the nick of time" in a row has got to be some kind of crime, doesn't it?

Deku's not an idiot, so I doubt he thought he could beat Stain on his own. As KageKageKing pointed out, we see him texting, but it's behind his back, so I think he may have just sent out a mass SOS text to the class.
-
I said "besides 'I got a text'?".
I just feel that it's awfully convenient for him to be close enough to show up in the nick of time to save all three of them. The UA might as well show up to save the day next chapter.

The seeming suggestion is that he came with his father.

Yeah, I said this under spoiler tags, but basically it was implied that Todoroki selected his father's agency for the hero agency assignment, and Endeavor was already shown to be present in Hosu at the time.
-
"butting into other people's problems, is the nature of superheroes"
I love Deku and Stain.
That elated expression Stain had when he finally found a worthy hero is gold. -
Someone picked up English volume 1 at Otakon! So hyped!
!
-
Viz is including the MHA popularity poll into their survey this week. Not sure if we're going to get our own results, or be added to the Japanese poll though

Just realized something about Deku's costume:
Edit: Oh, and Chapter 52's doodle:
!

Just caught up. Really liking this manga, hoping that it keeps developing in the direction it has. First time that the asshole character is my favorite in a series. I hope Bakugou doesn't get swept under the rug by Deku and Todoriki.
