chapter 47 was nice, nothing major really happened. I wanted to see the other students with their pros, all we got was Deku Dekuing & Stain in villains pub (if you get the joke you deserve a cookie).
My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist
-
-
Thought it was a good chapter, nothing too major, but I liked the stuff that was there. I liked Deku's epiphany, more hints about Noumu/the quirk which could hand out quirks and looks like last week's foreshadowing related to Iida was probably about him getting defeated by a villain when going to revenge his brother.
-
So, I just found this picture on tumblr…

So, I just found this picture on tumblr…
Maybe both characters just like stripped ties.
All Might wears them too when in a suit.
-
Buuuut… Naomasa is one of the few in on AM's secret about One For All (and Izuku inheriting it). Why wouldn't he make use of that info in the USJ invasion? Unless he's got different motivations altogether...
...Or maybe he did make use of it! That's how the League of Villains knew/thought they knew that AM was weakening.
Naomasa and Kurogiri's speech styles are wildly different, but that could just be an easy misdirect.
I'd buy this theory.
On the other hand, wouldn't AM know that his good buddy had a warp gate Quirk? Unless...Naomasa was given the warp gate Quirk by the "senseis" who modified Nomu. That would also explain why that particularly warp Quirk wasn't in the national registry.
-
Minor thing, but as far as Midoriya's costume goes I'm glad that it's going to be keeping the smile-mask… I rather liked the idea behind it. Ears look like they've been downsized too.
-
@CCC:
…Or maybe he did make use of it! That's how the League of Villains knew/thought they knew that AM was weakening.
Yeah, but they didn't know Midoriya was the user of One For All. Tomura only pointed out similarities.

It's possible AM told Naomasa about the inheritance but didn't specify who he gave OFA to? And even if he did know that, Nao/Kurogiri could still have ulterior motives that would keep him from revealing that Izuku was the one, at least in the heat of battle.
-
I should note that All Might literally wears the same tie. It's just a joke.
Also, Nao does know that Izuku is the next OFA user – he's not in the least surprised to see Izuku with All Might in the infirmary, and why would he tell the nurse but not his best friend? I could totally imagine All Might talking on the phone with him gushing about how awesome Izuku is.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Sorry for double post, but here, some ways that Shigaraki is the "mirror-Deku":
Deku: a child but highly mature, has a focused goal and motivation, was raised quirkless, is a completely normal human, has One for All, being trained as the hero to lead the next generation and replace All Might
Hands: an adult but highly immature, has no particular goal and loses motivation when things don't go his way, was likely raised with multiple quirks, probably an artificial human, will have All for One?, being trained as the villain to lead the next generation and destroy All Might
-
What I'm wondering is, if All Might went to Yuuei/UA, then why doesn't everybody know he's a Toshinori? Or do they?
-
So AM is japanese? Thought he was american. Eh whatever. Old teach is pretty cool and I am interested to see how Deku will use OFA in a more "flatly" way and less as a one hit miracle which breaks his bones.
-
I'd imagine he turns it on all the time so his body gets used to it and running at 10% or whatever. Yeah, he breaks himself whenever he hits something, but he hasn't really tried to walk or run with the power much. He's just used the brute strength, not the speed.
So practicing putting the power into say, the bottom of his feet as he walks. Or, as recently demonstrated, into his butt while he sits in a chair without actually sitting in a chair.
Kinda like how Goku and Gohan practiced being Super Saiyan all the time rather than switching in and out of it during Cell saga.

Yeah, that's what I see him doing as well. What I really want to see is everyone's reactions to otherwise unassuming Izuku handling everyday life things with the strength of ten men

Re the Tsukauchi is evil theory, it really does ring in a narrative sense--DRAMA!!--but it makes absolutely no sense given what we know of in-universe happenings. Tsukauchi already knows about All Might. If killing AM was his goal, and he had the Villain Alliance at his disposal, he would surely have hatched a better plan. Even if his goal was actually different, the whole ambush didn't accomplish anything, really. So I don't buy it.
-
Also, we know Tsukauchi's actual quirk and codename from Horikoshi's twitter – he's Trueman, with the power to read the minds of people to determine the truth. He can't be the same person as warpmist.

Huh. So I guess Thursday releases are gonna be a thing now?
(It's out now.)

! It seems like the major issue with Midoriya's control over One For All is what I've seen referred to as the Centipede's Dilemma (Thinking about how you do something inhibits your ability to actually do it). This would make a lot of sense for Midoriya, who grew up Quirkless and probably always has viewed Quirks as something amazing. In contrast, it's implied All Might was already something of an athlete ("His body was all he had going for him") so even though he was Quirkless too, he had an easier time taking to One For All vs the until-recently wimpy Midoriya.

everything in this chapter is just awesome, we got to see other students with their pros, which is awesome
the mega man video game reference was a nice throwback to the entrance exam chapter with super mario reference is awesome
& to finish it off we got Deku's awesome transformation, I hope next week Gran Torino have a "his power level!! It's over 9000!!" moment

Well, aren't I surprised. The Chinese scan isn't even out yet.

Looked it up, and on TVtropes, MHA was right there lol.Did you add it…?...
-
Just a minor nitpick: wouldn't the hero "Force Kind" be better off named "Fourth Kind" instead? Since, you know, he has four arms?
-

Pretty much as soon as I thought of it yeah. Also threw in "Too Awesome to Use" after seeing in on Deku's character page entry.
-
That was really good. I like how the microwave's been used with Midoriya's training. I also want to see some more of the training for all the others.
-
We didn't even reached 50 chapters and the boy is already going Super Saiyan.
Way to go Horikoshi, keep showing those characters from that manga that no one accepted. Its All Mighty Justice!
-
The other issue with one for all is the fact that deku could accidentally kill someone, that might take the front of his weakness.
-
I really need to pick up Omagadoki again, don't I? I think I didn't find the characters all that interesting and the pacing seemed kinda slow the first time through. It's been a while, though and I want to give it another chance.

Next week: Tokoyami and Shiina!
"Wait! This isn't a hero company, you're not a hero - this is just a run down zoo!"
"Tokoyami, tell me - how did you, without a zoo, manage to remove so much of the curse of the Crow?"
"What are you babbling about?"

its the most unique and engaging battle shonen of the past seventeen years.

Now that you mention it, that does kinda make sense.
Oh well!
-
Also, "Fourth Kind" is more obviously a reference to "the Third Kind".
-
…Or The Fourth Kind, which is actually a movie ;)
-
oh, heh
Kinda obscure, tho. Would Horikoshi really know it?
-
Could be a reference to both? "Obscure movie" as well as "Close Encounters with a Much More Popular Movie, +1"
All I know is that the obscure movie was the first thing that popped up when I did a google search on the explicit katakana used in the dude's name.

An alien abduction themed superhero? Fun!

Well, i think its more of a cultural reference
Like a lot of different aspects of this manga

I like how we're going back to Deku figuring shit out.
His strength was never in his powers, courage, or relentlessness, he was always a prodigy of learning. -

I kind of love Deku now

I'd say he's pretty courageous, though.
Everything I listed were his traits, but simply not his defining element.

I wanna know if the next thing to conquer learning will be flying. Wait, does almighty fly?

He jumps good. Does it count?
-
He jumps good. Does it count?
I mean, I figured that might be the case, but you can put that all in conquering the strength plot. I was just thinking ahead if there was more to his power than just strength, but maybe that's good because it may mean that after this learning/training arc we won't have many more and we can focus more on the plot.

I think this training arc will get an abrupt interruption pretty soon
-
He jumps good. Does it count?
Specifically, this is a reference to the original Superman, who actually did jump instead of fly.
-

You mean like how the tournament arc was interrupted?
There's really no reason for the arc to be interrupted, considering everybody is separated and it's only Izuku and Torino.
