this is just stupid , all those powers present at the island used in such a chaotic way , flamingo's fruit overpowered then useless for plot reasons , Burgess fighting Sabo and ignoring that the cage will slaughter him as well , fujitora that can do something about the cage ( not doflamingo ) but just stares at the sky ( btw his fruit of gravity always attracts meteors that's so weird but we cannot really complain about it i'm just stating the weirdness of it :p )

and the real ass pull here , the weirdest thing ! are den den mushi not working inside the birdcage , looooooooool lame just lame , very bad idea to build up tension , many better ways to do that

Maybe he wrapped them around him, or tied knots or something. We saw how little time it took him to tie Luffy's hands together.

I always kinda assumed the string ends latch onto stuff too, but who knows. Maybe he wasn't even able to use clouds to fly until he awakened Ito Ito.

Such a needlessly confusing devil fruit. And the fact he barely used all the features shown so far against Luffy, doesn't help it much.

I would say Don use most of the features shown so far vs luffy at one time or the other plus more.
The only move he not use is parasite and i going with luffy to fast for it .

How do know fuji can do something about the cage just because he is a admiral ?
And even if he can is it enough to stop the whole cage or just part ?
As for law we don't know if mansherry power gives you back your stamina and law need that if he going to fight .

I think it would be good to know because if there is a good, in-universe logical reason, there won't be much room to complain about people not doing anything about it. The problem with the Haki explanation is making the assumption that Doffy's strings not attached to him directly is not only completely imbued with Haki, but capable of not being cut at all by anybody on the island, which includes an Admiral, the second in command of the revolutionaries, and a number of well known pirates.

Even if the strings not attached to him directly there are still the same strings that cut meteors apart , block law attacks while he in room , stop luffy gear 3 haki attack etc etc and he still in direct control .
I think when people think of strings they think about a weak version but a string can be very strong it just depend on what it made out of.
Which i guess would be a better question to ask but i doubt we going to get a answer .

I like to think that Doflamingo swings from clouds like spider-man swings from buildings, adhesive ends that attach like spider-man's webbing. Of course it could be anything like say a lasso but with the way parasite works I've always assumed the strings stick to enemies when necessary at their tips or in the case of spider-web, everywhere.

My understanding of that ability, it only works on people who don't know anything about Dofla's Devil Fruit. Character that have been caught by that ability have been caught by surprise or because they didn't know what the ability was to begging with; it was seen by Sanji's reaction when Law told him what it was.

I don't think Oda will go for that plan, if he wanted law to teleport everyone outside the cage, he would have already done it or he could have shown zoro trying to cut birdcage and let the people escape. Instead he went to show the birdcage being pushed back by zoro and others.
Right now, birdcage is just a symbol of dofla's reign over dressrosa. It won't be cut off or bypassed by any means, it will to be stopped to give luffy enough time to counter dofla.
Also, I doubt oda can create a more dramatic scenario than showing all the fighters of dressrosa pushing the cage whist showing faith in luffy.

But let me get this straight, you find the Birdcage blocking communications is an asspull? ..but that would mean you think Den Den Mushi's are real? I mean, it's really silly to judge something that there's no clear explanation for, unless you think it's real or draw parallels to it. In One Piece, snails are able to communicate telepathically (which means this thing actually works in their universe [) and in the same manga, the Birdcage, which has a "dome-like" structure as it is, doesn't let that happen. Seems simple, seems convenient but it's an asspull?

I'm real good at ignoring that kind of stuff and suspending my disbelief, but Doffy's powers continue to be the most busted and illogical thing in the entire series. I know that the "awakened" thing was used to kind of hand wave all of the inconsistencies away, but it still sorta irks me, because it feels lazy and very un-Oda. It reminds me very much of the nanomachine excuse used to explain away all the nonsense in the MGS series.

Really hoping we're only a chapter or two away from the final blow now. I'm ready for the fallout.

Since Burgess announced he'd kill Luffy and steal his DF I was wondering whether that's really necessary. Oda has avoided killing major characters for so long so it would be quite surprising if he'd start now just for that reason and it would be pretty lame if BB's crew used that ability mostly off-panel.

With that in mind and considering that Burgess is probably going to escape, I also wonder if he'll steal someone else's power as there are quite a few powerful options currently in Dressrosa.

thx for that comment it resumes exactly what i was thinking , if you want to enjoy this arc you have to use your brain as less as possible ( that concern all shonens , but this arc in particular you have to be a dummy to enjoy reading it , and when i tought gear 4 was going to save the day …. )

We very well could see it happen at least once before the end of the story. I'm partially expecting one of the Black Beards to have a fruit we've already seen from someone else but with a flash back to show how that character died. When things like this come up with major players in the story, to me, it's almost like a promise from Oda that we'll get it one way or another.

I have a feeling that Burgess will either leave empty handed or if he does have a fruit it was found in some sort of storage owned by Doflamingo. If someone on this island does die by his hand and loses their fruit that will be a real surprise I'd think.

Barto's barriers have a limited range and a limited amount of barrier at one time. He will most likely help to stop one portion of the bircage on one side in the next chapter, but he can't create a barrier large enough the shield the entire population of Dressrosa.

I think some of them are just so far removed from the DF logic we've followed closely and seen evolve, which is Luffy's. Not that there aren't a bunch of insane logic leaps (it's a shonen) involving other DF powers, but Doffy really takes the cake. I can make the connection to Parasite well enough, it takes a leap of logic to connect the power of creating/manipulating string to the actual ability to control people, but it makes sense thematically; he's a puppet master. His ability to stitch himself up makes sense and his attacks all make sense, but when it comes to the string clones and the birdcage in particular? Come on. That stuff is ridiculous. Not only can he create an exact and believable clone from string, but it can talk? And the birdcage just bugs me on a bunch of levels..he has created this MASSIVE thing, big enough to cover an entire island, that is not only (apparently) indestructible, but he doesn't need to even think about it and it continues unabated while he's absolutely at his limits. If he had made it and it became a separate thing that went beyond his control, that would almost make more sense, but we've seen he's in total control of it and that just seems like too much.

It doesn't really bother me, but it does cheapen some parts of the story to me right now. I always loved that One Piece has its own insane form of logic and a couple of Doffy's (and Law's) powers have been the first things to really pull me out of the world more than I'd like.

I think that's a bit harsh. I do think this arc has had far more logic gaps than previous ones, not saying they don't all have them of course, but I've still enjoyed the good parts of it despite that. It kinda bugs me this time around because the leap I have a hard time stomaching is the countdown plot device, which is ever present and constantly forcing the narrative forward.

Hmm nice, that actually makes more sense. I mean the Den Den Mushi do use radio/thought waves (SBS Vol 41) and the material of the Birdcage seem hard enough. The only issue I find there now is whether Doffy can produce metal strings or.. it's his Haki/Hardening.. if it's the latter, then Vergo really might not b– woah not going there.

I had a theory that it actually is suppose to be an identical clone of himslef using strings so small he's literally reconstructing his own DNA to create a living breathing clone that shares the same mind. In this respect, I believe it is an inherent ability of the fruit in which Doflamingo doesn't need to mentally craft from scratch ( if he did, it would be completely beyond belief).

Because remember a "string" is not a singularly specific form of matter, which is why he can create string matter that is completely indestructible or more organic strings, what I would consider "molecular strings." Of course those molecular strings can only clone his own molecules not creaet different clones or organic matter. He can also create more maleable, less rigid strings that are more flexible for defense, but that lose their razor sharp properties.

But if he's able to do THAT, why does'nt he need to stitch his organs to repair them rather than reconstructing the organic matter in its entirety? That, praytell, is the mystery.

In that respect, puppet doflamingo may very well be a supernatural entity created by the fruit that cannot be explained in even the most vaguely rational way. This supernatural property of Doflamingo's powers is why the strings will disappear when Doflamingo gets KO'd (or killed).

that would be also the explanation for the birdcage , but even within the one piece world and one piece logic it seems off :/ , for the den den mushi thing yes i can easily accept it because its absurd to try to use logic to explain it , but admit it it looks like a forced thing to make dressrosa completely isolated . ( on a side-note when will we have a zoan den den mushi no den den mushi no mi xD )

I can understand the clones but the birdcage to me not really a big deal .
We already know his string are super strong from everything we seen of them and there was never a limit to how much string he can make .
Think about other Paramecia users like Mr 3 or Magellan given enough time they could cover a island with there power .
Then there fact he is a awakening user which add to the craziness of his powers .

EDIT i expect later on when see more awakening powers for Paramecia users it going to get super crazy .

I honestly try not to figure out what's up with the anime adaptation! I'll just get pleasantly surprised when they do something great! The last episode actually had Kyros walking on 2 legs. No joke. Not saying they forgot and drew the other leg that'd be stupid enough to fire someone. A top view of Kyros doing that slow walk they're so fond of cause it pads it nicely! A one legged man people!

Hum, I thought the faraday cage concept was immediately obvious when reading that chapter, since it finally verified why Buffalo and Baby 5 flew above the cage with the white Den Den Mushi in Law's flashback.

We very well could see it happen at least once before the end of the story. I'm partially expecting one of the Black Beards to have a fruit we've already seen from someone else but with a flash back to show how that character died. When things like this come up with major players in the story, to me, it's almost like a promise from Oda that we'll get it one way or another.

I have a feeling that Burgess will either leave empty handed or if he does have a fruit it was found in some sort of storage owned by Doflamingo. If someone on this island does die by his hand and loses their fruit that will be a real surprise I'd think.

Well, a flashback still avoids most of the felt tragedy associated with death, especially if it's someone you know. That's why I said I don't Oda is going to do that. So I was thinking there is some way a character can be saved after the ability has been stolen, especially if the BB's trick is going to become more widely known.

By the way, if Burgess stole Doffy's ability, even if the latter survived, it would open a way to put his story to rest.
