So what we've learnt is class B is completely worthless. Don't even need to see them fight to know they'll lose
My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist

Well, not completely worthless. They'll probably get their time to shine later on.
-
@CCC:
Ida called Ingenium, but the latter was busy with work.
Lines in question are:
電話してきたんだが…仕事中だったよ.The grammatical form is X shite kita- "I came here [and started talking to you] after having done X."
Plus, the whole busy with work thing wouldn't make sense otherwise.Okay that makes sense. Thanks!
By the way, do you have a book of grammar (or website) specifically for stuff like this you recommend? Or is it mostly remembered back from your time in Japan?
So what we've learnt is class B is completely worthless. Don't even need to see them fight to know they'll lose
To be fair, a lot of people (myself included) were severely underestimating Iida. Shiozaki had the advantage in terms of quirks for sure, but Iida is from a super special elite heroic lineage, after all.
-
Okay that makes sense. Thanks!

Mostly what I remember from…the thousands of hours of self-study for JLPT N1 haha. Who knew standardized testing would actually help someone learn something!?
I did buy a few study books in Japan, for that.
These monstrosities specifically: http://i.imgur.com/IjqIZ3g.jpg (left is mostly practice problems while right explains the grammar in detail)…And I was underestimating Ida for sure. Realllly wanted Shiozaki to beat him so we could've had just one Class B-er in the semifinals :P
-
@CCC:
Hoping they can fix it before Monday haha :P
(Luckily it's not a huge deal and will definitely be fixed for the volume release)I wonder why viz has not yet fixed it. Normally they do such things right away (e.g. chapters of One Piece and HxH - even the author comments were corrected in one case)
-
As I expected, we're almost at the finals. I doubt the tournament will be interrupted. So, I'm really looking forward to the next two matches.
-

Yep… I was told it was too late to fix. I'm making preemptive note in my volume 5 word file though :P
-
Oh I'm definitely digging this new villain!

Chinese Chapter 42:
http://www.ishuhui.com/archives/373907And a summary!
! It's Kacchan vs Tokoyami! And Tokoyami's playing a defensive game!
The off-screened Tokoyami victims wonder why he isn't attacking ferociously like he did against them.
Tokoyami himself realises he's in a bad position, and that Dark Shadow has no chance to recover his stamina. He tries to grab Kacchan for the finishing blow but…
Kacchan evades and uses something like a Flashbang!
It's Kacchan's victory! Turns out he knew about Dark Shadow's weakness quite a while ago.
! Copycat is shivering as he realises he was playing with a monster (lol).
! Iida receives a call from his mom. It's bad news...
! Meanwhile, the Hero Killer is rambling some more about how heroes are fake and all that.
But suddenly, Black Mist appears behind him and forcibly recruits him for his purposes.
! Back at the festival, Kacchan enters the wrong room and meets Todoroki, whose indifference pisses him off.
Todoroki is still contemplating the use of his flames, and thinking about how Deku is always destroying their stubbornness. He asks Kacchan if Deku's always been like that since childhood.
This triggers Kacchan, and in a fuming rage, he demands Todoroki to use his flames, saying that he'll beat him and win anyway.
! And with that, the finals are about to begin!! -
Thanks for the summary!
! Poor Dark Shadow gets all the beatings! I'm looking forward to seeing how Tokoyami improves his teamwork with it as the series progresses - he needs to put himself out there too!
! The Hero Killer looks completely different to what I was expecting! When I saw his bandaged face I thought he was going to have a wrapped head and wear a trenchcoat or something to be fairly inconspicuous, but this guy is quite the flamboyant chap! -
! Hm, I was hoping for a bit more between Tokoyami and Bakogou. Not quite as intense as I'd hoped, but that seems to have been the pattern for most of the fights.
! So who are y'all rooting for in the finals? I'm pulling for Bakogou since contemplative Todoroki is less fun and a victorious heel would be more interesting. -

Kouhei kills it with villains.
-
Tokoyami mah boy, nooooooooo…Hey Hero Slayer looks awesome.
-
Now that's how you make a villain. I like the double scarf.
Poor Iida though, I wonder what'll happen now?Regarding the final match, I'm putting my money on Bakugo. I'm so glad Deku didn't win his match, this is such a fun matchup. Probably the most exciting fight in manga so far this year, for me at least.
-
Have a feeling this is setting up Bakugou to win, hope I'm wrong though, I'm all for Todoroki winning it. Go, my boy!
Also, that villain's design is fantastic.
-
Hero slayer seems to have run out of a Image comic of the 90s. Such silly and oversaturated design.
That doesnt mean I dont like it, in fact having villains with different art styles seems like a good move.
-
That was a fine chapter. Pretty self-explanatory set-up. Pretty smart from Bakugou to take note of Tokoyami's weakness, reveal of the design of the villain and finally ending on the cliffhanger of Todoroki vs. Bakugou.
-
Great Chapter! Bakugou knowing Tokoyami's weakness seemed a bit of an asspull, but I knew he wouldn't win. Loving the villians design, i agree with Baldulf, it is over-saturated but definitely not silly. Looks like a beast! Shame he couldn't have his own little arc… Instead he's in ties with the big bad guys unless he tells them to F off...
-
I'm rooting for Bakugou, after all his big claims I really hope he makes it to No. 1.
I'm glad that this tournament has had such a fast pace, my only complaint is that I wish some of the fights that were summarised in dialogue had some small panels to at least show us what it looked like.
The new villain looks cool, he's wearing all those bandages and carrying all those swords and isn't the least bit embarrassed.
-
Horikish's villains designs are the best
Stain kinda reminds of Deathstroke
-
I like how the Hero Slayer has a random wristwatch.
-
I will love if Hero Slayer is another quirkless guy that can beat super heroes with pure skills.
-
I like how the Hero Slayer has a random wristwatch.
What'd'ya mean random? The wristwatch is pretty necessary. How is he to know when it's time to kill heroes, otherwise?
-
I'm putting all my money on I&F. Blasty will come close but will ultimately lose.
I wonder if bro is dead or at the hospital. I'm not sure which I would like better.
Blasty seems to imply he wouldn't win without knowing shadow guy weakness. If that's really the case that's pretty impressive.

Another?

Totally in support of this, or just some very basic quirk that he parlays into dangerousness. Maybe excellent eyesight or something. Like one of those superheroes/villains that is just crazy good at shooting or has honed reflexes.
-

In the Fallen Angel's translation, Kacchan actually didn't know about Tokoyami's weakness before the fight. He figured it out during the fight and capitalised on it.
From the looks of it, it's another one of those ambiguous lines in Japanese. Perhaps CCC can shed some light on the matter? -

Perhaps CCC can shed some light on the matter?I'm not CCC, but I think what the line was originally saying was that Kacchan figured it out because Tokoyami kept using the same attack with his monster thing over and over again.
-
Yes, he says 数撃って暴いたんだ, which means he used it so many times it came out
-
Didn't like the way he colored that page. But, besides that a pretty good chapter.
Bakugou winning is still my prediction. -
I just caught up with the series after a highly entertaining marathon. My overall thoughts on it is that it's the best new manga I've read in a while. It has that addictive Shonen "spark" that I haven't quite felt in some time. So far it's been quite an excellent battle Shonen with a great amount of potential. The art's good, the action is visceral, and I've really felt attached to these characters despite how little time I've spent with them. I'm glad to finally be following this series with everyone else. It lived up to the hype.
One question though - who is the guy with shaggy white hair watching the sports festival via computer? Is that the child-like villain with all the hands, or is it a nameless person above the other villains? I think I have it right but I just wanted to check.
Also in chapter 38 pg. 2, do we know who is talking to Shigaraki, or is it supposed to be unknown?

That's our handy dandy
notebookfriend, yes. -
Is it normal for people to catch a Blue's Clues reference?

! oh shit. Did Bakugou actually go too overboard and ended up knocking Todoroki out or something?
-
! oh shit. Did Bakugou actually go too overboard and ended up knocking Todoroki out or something?
! Bakugou is just super pissed off over his hollow victory due to Todoroki's vacillation.
-
Poor Bakugou, that wasn't a good fight at all. Really disappointing and sort of lackluster too. Not from him, but from his opponent. :/
It's kind of annoying how Todoroki still needs Deku to start fighting at full power. Can't that guy decide for himself whenever to use his full power or not at all? Just stick to something of your own conviction, man! No wonder you lost that final battle so superquickly with such half-assed feelings and powers. <_<
Bakugou won't be happy about his first place at all, when he wakes up, that's for sure. -

Who cares about the tournament? GO back to Iida's likely dead brother and Hero Slayer.
-
Did Bakugou pass out because of running out of gass or the big boobs ref KO him?(I forgot her name lol):
-

Midnight. She can exhale some sort of knock-out gas, apparently.
-
Chapter is out here. Well, that translation was a mess, but that was good character writing. You don't overcome these things that easily. I recall someone here saying that Deku suddenly fixed all of Todoroki's problems, but he very clearly didn't. This is just the first step.
Also, the fact that Bakugou got an "empty" victory is interesting, too. All of them lost in a way, showing that there is a lot of room to grow for all of them. On the other hand, I can't guess where it goes from here - of course, the thing with Iida's brother has to be adressed, but in a more general sense. Where now?
-
Who cares about the tournament? GO back to Iida's likely dead brother and Hero Slayer.
Exactly! Whole time I wondered what happened to Iida's brother, is he dead now or still alive but heavily injured?
-
Here's the Powermanga version.
-
Powermanga made that so much better.
To check, Todoroki used his flames to fake looking like he was ready to fight seriously, thus prompting Bakugou to use a stronger attack. He then extinguished the flames and lost intentionally. Right?
-
No, he wan't faking to taunt Bakugou to use a stronger attack. Bakugou always go big anyway.
He was ready to use his flames, but unlike the match with Deku where he was entirely focused and simply forgot about his father and all the abuse, this time he wasn't focused at all and the moment he activated his fire he immediately remembered.
