sigh: http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/15/showbiz/john-henson-dies/
Couldn't find any of the many great "Sweetums runs after the gang" videos, but the part at 1:50 in this video seemed an appropriate tribute:
Thanks, John.

The Henson family is cursed. Whyyyyyyyy?!!!
R.I.P.

Finally, a trailer/preview that makes me think I might care. They really are embracing the… sequelness. (Nevermind its actually like their 8th or 10th film, depending on if you count the tv movies)
-
PERFECTION.
Seriously, they should use that as a base if they ever bring back the Muppet Show.
-
Just realized that song and a lot of the lines were clearly written to the previous title the movie had
"The Muppets….again".But it's charming when they do it like that!
-
So apparently Muppets Most Wanted only opened to around 16 million weekend. While the trash known as Divergent got 50 million.
Seriously, people, get out there and watch!!!
I didn't have time this weekend, but this is high on my list!!!
-
I actually did see it this weekend. It's pretty solid as a Muppet movie, but…....yeah, it's just not as good as the first one.
Even so, those are some pretty sad box office numbers. It deserves better than that.
-
Well, the first one had brilliant commercials and teasers and looked like a lot of fun and built itself up for months and had great word of mouth… and was also the first theatrical Muppets in over a decade
This one... has had actively off-putting commercials and doesn't look funny at all.
(The first one also head Jason Seagel and Amy Adams who I like while this one has... Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey. Meh.)
Was it any good?
-
It was really bad. I saw it a few days ago and forgot to mention it. It was really bad in one of the worst ways, which is "I will be hard pressed to ever remember this 30 minutes after I see it, let alone in a week".
It was mostly void of any real jokes, or humor. Instead it just had a light coating of vague silliness throughout. The trailer is almost entirely as close to a "memorable jokes" as you might find in the movie. It was only those like four jokes at all. Like, make no mistake, there were punchlines. Sometimes there were setups. But every single thing was delivered and executed with such a lack of interest, or care, or again: sense of humor.
It was remarkably ersatz and if anyone thought the last Muppet movie didn't feel like the Muppets, then get a load of this.
To give an example, at some point in the movie Miss Piggy sings a song and Celine Dion just shows up through most of it singing it with her, sometimes taking prominent place in front of the camera. Why? I couldn't really fathom a guess. They mentioned her name once earlier, Piggy mentioned she wanted to sing a Dion song for the muppet show. So the joke is that … Celine Dion shows up? To exist? I feel like what they were going for was a joke about prominent and pointless celebrity cameos taking up space, but it had zero of that execution. Instead, you get nothing more than a completely unfunny, borderline serious ballad with a lot of Celine Dion. It was 100% nothing more than pointless and jokeless celebrity cameos.
Muppets fans don't deserve this and the Muppets don't deserve this. Just. Let the franchise go, this is how it always works out when you manhandle something long after its creators have been involved.
-
But… the previous movie was really good.
-
@RobbyBevard:
But… the previous movie was really good.
I thought it was pretty okay! Good for sure.
This one is trash though. Even at best, for someone who is just really into anything Muppets and is very forgiving, I couldn't imagine them considering this more than a wishy washy "solid". And I super love the muppets.
-
Well, thats the impression the commercials were giving anyway.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Was it any good?
Well, I wouldn't go as far as Holy and say it was really bad, but overall it's pretty much just okay. It's perfectly serviceable entertainment and is worth seeing once, but that's really all I can say about it.
The jokes are pretty hit and miss (though, when they do hit, they hit pretty well) as are the songs, and even the cameos for that matter. And…yeah, I guess that's the best I can describe it, is that this is kind of a hit and miss movie.
Now, to clarify, I did like this movie, and I'm glad I saw it. It's just...well, don't go unless you're a real Muppet fan and try to catch an early/cheap showing.
Here's a review from Brad/The Cinema Snob (beware, spoilers). My opinion is pretty much the same as his.
Oh, and Ty Burrell gave an awesome performance.
-
Sounds like I'll just wait for the Blu-Ray this time around, wish they just brought the show back instead of doing a sequel. I didn't really think The Muppets could work as just a film franchise anyway.(Yes, I know there were several films before hand. But there were several television series around at the same time.)

The Muppets are hanging out at Youtube this week and will be filming with several Youtubers.
Here's a start:
-
Disney Junior has been airing shorts called "Muppet Moments " where Muppets have little question and answer sessions with toddlers. Very cute stuff.
-
It continutes:
I LOVE IT.
-
In case you missed it, we are officially getting a new Muppets show.
Per THR, the new Muppets series comes to us from Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady and Bob Kushell (3rd Rock From the Sun). It's described as a contemporary, documentary-style show that will explore the Muppets' personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a "more adult" Muppet show, for kids of all ages.
-
If there's any Youtube celebrity/Muppet crossover that needs to happen, it's Beaker and Bunsen going onto the Periodic Table of Videos.
-
I'm waiting for them to do one of the Fine Bros. React Shows.
In case you missed it, we are officially getting a new Muppets show.
This makes me go both "FUCK YEAH!" and "Hmmm." Because any Muppet Show is awesome, but at the same time a "Muppet Sitcom" isn't necessarily the thing we want. Maybe it's just too much to hope for a complete comeback of the old Muppet Show.

Dare you to watch him singing at Jim Henson's funeral and not cry.

When the Muppets pilot screened, it received "a standing ovation"
-
Yay for new Muppets.
I've got a sudden hankering for Muppet Babies. I liked that show as a kid. Baby Rowlf was particularly adorable. -

"This video is private."

-
thumbs up I'll watch it.
-
I know, I'll probably watch it.
-
Okay, I'll go with it.
WILL we get guest stars though? That was part of the whole shtick of the first Muppet Show.
-
Well, this is obviously a different format from the old Muppet show, but I would be willing to put money on their being guest stars, it's what the Muppets do, generally.
-
And that's pretty much the reaction I hoped people would have.
I know I'm looking forward to it.
I'm tooooooooooo!
-
Holy crap. Don't quote my post from 2011 that was looking forward to the movie that already came out two movies ago.
Stupid bots.
-

Considering how much Gonzo bashes the format, I have a strong suspicion that this preview is a joke itself and the actual show will be different. Whether because it's nothing like the trailer or because different episodes will have different approaches.
-
Is it me or does that preview make Miss Piggy seem far more … shallow... then what she was? Some will say she was already, but not to the degree she disregarded other's names,
-
Okay . . . . I'm a little more assured about the new show.
http://www.vulture.com/2015/05/the-muppets-everything-we-know-so-far.html -
Yeah, I wasn't too turned off by the trailer, but that article is very reassuring!
-
Is it September yet?
-
Looks amazing!!1
-
I remember turning in for Muppet Tonight and thought it would be good but it got cancelled. Well then I hope this current show would be as long as the Muppet Show from the 70's. But I find it pretty funny on how variety shows are now no longer popular but SNL is still ongoing.
However I don't mind the new format and i'm looking forward to see how it will expand.
-
Muppets Tonight made the major mistake of not having Kermit as the host of their show, instead creating this new Muppet that nobody had any connection with.
In this new show it looks like Miss Piggy will be hosting their "Late Night With Miss Piggy" show, but at least she's a character we all know and love. But Kermit will still be a major figure in the show. In Muppets Tonight we barely saw him at all.

Oh no! Kermit and Piggy have broken up!

Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog announce they have officially broken up, but will work together on their fall show The Muppets.

First Ben and Jen, Miranda and Blake, Kourtney and Scott, Gwen and Gavin – is nothing sacred?! Another of showbiz's most legendary couples is officially dunzo. Kermit the Frog confirmed to reporters in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, Aug. 4, that he and longtime girlfriend Miss Piggy have called it quits.PHOTOS: Celebrity splits of 2015
"Piggy and I have gone our separate ways, romantically," the star of ABC's fall show The Muppets revealed during a Television Critics Association panel discussing his fall series. The new comedy is an Office-style mockumentary series starring Kermit and his Muppet friends as they produce a late-night talk show hosted by Miss Piggy. The pair have worked together since The Muppet Show's debut in the 1970s.
"It can be tough to work with your ex," Kermit lamented, "especially if your ex is a pig."

Miss Piggy, who arrived late to the press conference, also confirmed the news. "It's good publicity," she quipped. "I'm glad we're broken up. This is going to be great for moi's stardom. Now everybody's going to worry about oh, who's she dating? Who's she getting caught snogging with?"
But don't expect the off-and-on couple's breakup to make things awkward on the set of their new show. "It is entirely professional," Kermit said of the pair's working relationship. "I am taking a behind-the-scenes role in Piggy's show as the executive producer. We're both professional adults. I think we'll be fine."

Added Piggy, "I have no problem working with my ex, okay? It's fine. Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens."
Besides, Kermit has already moved on -- he's dating Denise, who works in the marketing department at ABC. "She is a pig. I do have an attraction to pigs," he said of his new love.
The pair released a tongue-in-cheek joint statement to Us Weekly about their split, explaining, "After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship.
PHOTOS: TV and movie nostalgia
"We will continue to work together on television," the pair confirmed, "and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter…unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding."
The Muppets airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET beginning Sept. 22 on ABC.

This is just really, really weird PR for the new show. Given that among the previews for it they were already dating others, its not like they're fooling anyone into thinking this is an actual real time thing.
Also, they broke up somewhere between Muppets Take Manhattan and The Muppets anyway, after getting a house together. And then got back together.
Geez, if you're going to keep treating the muppets as real actors with real lives, at least be consistent.
Oh well, hopefully the new show gets some real mileage out of this. A slightly shaken up dynamic could be fun.

esp since Kermit already moved on and is dating another pig, Denise, whom we see in one of those shorts, Miss Piggy doesn't like (shoving her out of the pic with her and …think it was Janice, the gal from the band.

9 Things Learned About The Muppets at the D23 Expo:
http://blogs.disney.com/oh-my-disney/2015/08/14/9-things-we-learned-at-the-muppets-panel-at-the-d23-expo/The most important one: THERE WILL BE NEW PIGS IN SPACE EPISODES ONLINE.
-
The first episode of the new Muppets tv series was great.
! The bear jokes about Fozzie was hilarious. And I really like alot of the references to the older Muppets stuff like Animal and his women thing.
-
Caught the first episode and I was giggling and chuckling at lot at the jokes. Like I just love the Muppets no matter how you slice it.
So it's…..30 Rock + the Office + Muppets? I was reading in an article that the showrunners wanted to "adult" up the jokes, but not to an extent that kids wouldn't be able to enjoy, but broaden the appeal, and that's very much appreciated in my book.
This is gonna be a good show.
-
Well, that was a lot like the Office.
In that it wasn't funny.
I get that the 70s show did vaudeville, because that was in at the time and what all the late night shows did… (and people forget the fact because they grew up on Muppets afterward, so its the only show of that kind that got into reruns decades later) so expecting them to go back to that is pointless. I'm totally fine with them doing the behind the scenes Late Night angle. But I'm missing the energy. The jokes are fine, and the characters having their personal lives, but just... the Office style of editing throws things off.
Dunno how that would be fixed at this point though. Maybe if there was more of the actual show?
I'm very much reminded of Aaron Sorkin's Studio 60. WHich was behind the scenes on a comedy show. And the character drama was interesting and good and so was the dialogue, but the comedy wasn't there, and that was a problem with that show (compared to say, West WIng where the character humor being more subtle among the big speeches and such is fine.)... I imagine it might end up being the same here.
