On a side note, I have a couple of translation/localization…stories? thoughts? whatever for you guys.
-I've been collecting the....curses, I forget the term....uhh, the Viz Media translated 3-in-1 volume sets. With the red cover, white lettering? Because I was so used to how Viz handled the series here (Dragon Ball -> split to Z portion), I thought this only entailed Goku's adventures up to Piccolo Jr.
But I should've done the math here. 3 volumes for one set, and the "DB" set ends with volume 16, where Goku and Piccolo face off in the tournament. Dragon Ball volume 17, or DBZ volume 1, is where Raditz attacks. If I waited, I could've had a consistent set.
But I bought DBZ volume 1....then 2 and 3....not realizing my mistake until 5. That's Dragon Ball volume 21, so I can at least pick up the 3-in-1 pattern after that point. (is this making any sense?)
-Additionally, the sets say uncut and uncensored, yet Popo's lips are still censored in these 3-in-1 sets. I get why, but it seems like false advertising.
-Would you believe in my stand-aside volume of 16, there's a hiliarous inconsistency with a translation. Remember this scene?
On the back of the volume, as a preview, the panel reads:
Piccolo: "Gya ha ha! Don't you think you should ask your friends for help? At this point, you have no hope of winning!"
but inside the volume, it reads:
Piccolo: "Gahahaha! Do you truly wish to decline your allies' aid?! Without it, your slim hope becomes none at all!" I have other volumes with this, but maybe someone can help me out. This more….formal English, is this consistent with Piccolo's speech patterns in Japanese, before he really becomes an ally? Or, like the pirate talk in early One Piece, it was just Viz being eccentric?
