My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist

Ok this chapter made me a Ochako fan, great determination and guts even though she stood no chance vs Bakugou.
-
That was a great chapter. Thumbs up for Bakugou respecting Uraraka and Uraraka's determination and smarts in using her ability.
I also like that the reason for her collapsing was her quirk's weakness, so she's pretty endurant. -
I like Uraka´s determination and all, but I´m really surprised about Bakugou.
It seems like he took his lesson seriously and changed his attitude to a certain degree. The old Bakugou would probably have underestimated Uraka and end it floating and lose this fight. After realizing he´s not the big fish in a small pond like he tought, he has been shown to be more careful and thoughtful in certain situations.
36 chapters in, and I like this character a lot more than what I did in the beggining. -
I like how Horikoshi is all like "you didn't wanted my Zoo manga, so I will haunt all of you with cameos".
-
Bakugou actually recognizing Ochako during the fight by remembering her name was pretty GOAT. Respecting her by going all out. I actually like him now
-
So, the group who is translating Assassination classroom has declinced the offer and apparently Fallen Angel is willing to take the money from mangaread today. LOL! It's all about locking in traffic. The world of aggregator sites is so fucked up.

-
Really great chapter awesome use of Ochako's powers and a great show of her determination. I also love all the faces she pulls all the time, she's a really expressive character.
Also it's great to see more of Bakugou's development and seeing how he's matured. It's great that his personality hasn't changed he's still the same guy we've known since the first chapter but he's matured and his outlook has changed, now he's a really formidable rival. Also the panel with Baku pushing aside the smoke and it slipping between his fingers was really cool. It was a really visually impressive fight
-
If Bakugou ended up getting touched, he could've just routinely propelled back down with explosions and defeated her before he ran out of stamina
-
That was a risk that he didn't want to take, specialy if Urakara can touch him and he doesn't realize.
-
Man, that audience. So many "heroes" cosplaying civilians. XD
At least I hope most of them are cosplaying and that those aren't their usual clothes they go to work or out on a date with. Then again, if they all would be real "pro" heroes then this world's villians would have a real hard time against so many heroes. Reminds me of a webcomic I had read many years ago with a city full of heroes and villians who were all superstrong, kind of immortal and stuff; BUT there lived a single NORMAL human in that town and that single normal human was ALWAYS the center of attention as he was the only one who could not "save himself" from any kind of threats so he was always a villian target as a hostage/etc and for the superheroes a civilian to protect. Was a pretty fun comic, very hilarious. xDAs for this chapter, one chapter = one battle, as expected of Horikoshi. The so far best designed fight in this tournament, but then again we didn't really saw many "real" fights going on so far either. This battle between Uraraka and Bakugou felt like the first real fight in this tournament and I'm glad it was a good one!
Uraraka never gave up and went over her limit to try to win this fight and prove her worth as a hero! GJ, girl! You're offically awesome!
Bakugou never let his guard down and even when Uraraka came on him with her stone rain he BLASTED it away, leaving a similar impressed audience like Todoroki did with his icemountain and hell, he even acknowledge Uraraka and called her by her name at the end there! Dude really went through a change in a couple dozen chapters, love it!That "Angelface" comment of his though. Had no idea Bakugou even knew nice words to say. Uraraka herself was like "what did he just called me?". XDDD
-
Ugh, the spectators are so annoying. "Hey, that's a girl he's fighting!" "Going all out against a girl?!" "What a jerk, she's a girl!"
Did you notice that one of the competitors in this fight was a girl?
-
@James:
That "Angelface" comment of his though. Had no idea Bakugou even knew nice words to say. Uraraka herself was like "what did he just called me?". XDDD
Pretty sure that is something they just put there for no reason.
Waiting for Glib's translation. -

Nooo Ochako-chan! Bakagou you meanie!
In all seriousness though, the chapter was great. Really loved how Ochako was using her powers as well as her unwavering determination. Was also good to see Bakugou didn't underestimate her for a second.
-
Just read the first chapter i don't have much to so say but I am liking it though so I'm off to read more.

Viz used "round-face", which is the most accurate since the original noun phrase was "丸顔".
-
Pretty sure that is something they just put there for no reason.
Waiting for Glib's translation. He literally calls her "round face/moon face" (丸顔). An insult/nickname like that just doesn't translate fluently or gives the same connotation into English. "Round face" sounds like Bakugou is calling her fat. "Moon face" might be an allusion to Princess Kaguya, but nobody would get it unless they've know the story. "Angelface" I can accept because a)Uraraka has a cute face and b)angels can fly/float.
Edit: Oh well, "round-face" it is. (other characters have round faces too!)
「何Soon…」<– Oh my god, the DJ talk. It almost sounds like a pun, but I'm pretty sure it's not.
-
Yeah…just...round. As opposed to super oval-ly or pointed or high cheekbones or anything else. Like a relatively circular face. Who knew this would be such a difficult concept haha
Definitely not a Kaguya reference.Bakugo's shtick is that he comes up with on-the-fly nicknames for his classmates based solely on their physical appearances. Denki was dunce face, Asui was frog (duh), Sero was soy sauce face (pointed chin), Mina was raccoon eyes, etc.
It's not supposed to be a compliment or an insult. Just observational, because he generally doesn't care to remember their actual names (or wants people to think he doesn't care enough). -
So, the group who is translating Assassination classroom has declinced the offer and apparently Fallen Angel is willing to take the money from mangaread today. LOL! It's all about locking in traffic. The world of aggregator sites is so fucked up.
I guess this deserves some explanation.
Our boss has told us he's helping a friend generate traffic for his site by allowing them to release MHA there first.
As far as I know, no transaction of money was involved.
We still aren't earning anything from scanlating the series.
Nevertheless, I am rather skeptical of this readmanga site, but we're still releasing on batoto so you're free to read there if you prefer. -
I dunno why that particular nickname flew over my head, I'm such an idiot. punches face To me, the way Horikoshi draws some of the student's faces is generally round. In that case, Ochako has puffier cheeks than the others.
Re CCC: (Rikaichan gave me both 'round face' and 'moon face'. How did it get moon face from 丸顔?)
All we need now is a list of nicknames coined by Bakugou. Easy-peasy right? ("It's not like I want to remember your name, stupid!" XP)
EDIT: News coming from the fan-creation side. There's gonna be another MHA-only comic event this year on Sept. 20th @ Tokyo Big Site. どうやら出番のようだ! held by Akaboo. That makes 2 MHA comic events this year.

Need that comics name! You cant just write something that interesting and not give out a name.
-

Meh, I ship them since like ten chapters ago. Gives room for Deku x Tsuyu. Plus a devil like Bakugou needs an angel as partner, else his kids gonna have one heck of an explosive lifestyle. :P
Need that comics name! You cant just write something that interesting and not give out a name.
Dude! If I remembered that name, I would go back and reread it!!! I just remembered because of the audience. And it really was hilarious, because the superheroes basically tried to help the MC in everything. Like when he tried to reach for teh milk in the upper shelf in the supermarket, couple heroes who all had looked like normal customers till that moment, show up and have a badass fight on who gets to take the milk and give it to him, they destroy like half the supermarket during that struggle. XD
Or he is out of toiletpaper and somebody breaks through the wall to hand him a new toiletpaper-roll. XD
And ofc there is a woman the MC likes but she's a superheroine who also only wants to protect him and who has eyes for some supertough goodlooking hero who the weak MC can never hope to compete with. And the villians had their own stories in there as well, like the supermind villian who was a childhoodfriend of the MC, who everyone thinks she wants to control the town, but all she actually wanted was a date with him, but she's too shy to ask him out so she makes lots of plans with her goons to kidnap him and brainwash him and stuff and the heroes always get in her way before she can confess/get a kiss. XDDDGod, why can't I remember that name… then again that webcomic is from so long ago, it might have been taken down by now. :c

Re CCC: (Rikaichan gave me both 'round face' and 'moon face'. How did it get moon face from 丸顔?)
…Because the full moon is round. Also it's kind of a medical term for the face shape that people with Cushing's Syndrome get due to fat deposits.
But that's obviously not how Bakugo meant it :P
EDIT: Rikaichan is nice for quick references (as is jisho.com, since they use the same database), but you can't really beat jimbreen or this thing: http://www.alc.co.jp/)

Batoto is still not bloody working. looks like i'm stuck with supporting mangahere.
-
Fight was interesting. Like i said I was more interest in the jacket-decoy than in the meteor shower. I'm not sure how she gets to touch all and pile them on top of Explo while they are being blow away, but maybe she just touched the cracked part so they could float.
Explo became more cautious in his battle it seems. He should work on his range attack. He is stuck on unable to put angelica down and killing her it seems. Although I'm not sure if his rash style at the start is not from the frustration he get from Deku.
Seeing the public and I-won't-use-fire reactions suppose Explo feat was as good or at it least make him a serious Challenger for Zuko. Funny how many heroes did not notice the meteor shower.
I'm looking forward to discovering angelica trump card .

Alc is such a lifesaver, I use it for almost everything! Btw, I got the idea for angelface from an entry for 丸顔, "cherubic-looking"!
-
Haha yeah I noticed the cherubic in there. And yes- alc is often a lifesaver for those really obscure terms, assuming you can figure out what kana form they want it in. Very fussy like that. The context sentences are also awesome :)
-
For anyone wondering about the discrepancies between our translations for Mineta's line, the word he uses is the super vague term "socchi-kei," which basically means "person whose worldview/ way of thinking I don't agree with." I took it to mean Mineta didn't understand why any guy would hit a cute girl unless he were you know
-
Here's what it's about:
@Rio:
Seems Kohei (BnHA's mangaka) had a drawing of Smoker in the Usopp Gallery of vol.23.
-
Yeah, Oda didn't realize it until Horikoshi told him at the New Years party.
He was excited to know that someone who sent in fanart published on Usopp Gallery a decade ago is now working on the same magazine as peer professional. -
So I was curious about the drawing and I ended up looking for it. And here it is

-
! Momo looks devastated. Poor thing.
-
! I want Deku to win this fight just because I feel like it'd be more interesting to see him against Iida and Bakugou.
-
! wonder what endevoir or whatever the name is told Deku, but he seemed somewhat threatning.
Basically, he keeps being a huge douchebag (Probably)
! Anyway, I want Deku to win this, but Todoroki is no Bakugou. I think todoroki's got this. -
Alright, it's summary time:
! As Kacchan makes his way to the stands, he encounters what the fuck are you doing here Deku, go die!
He thinks that Ochako's plans were thought up by Deku and calls it irritating, but Deku clarifies that those plans were thought up by Ochako herself, and if he felt irritated, that means Ochako was capable of matching up to him.
! Tsuyu-chan comments on how Kacchan exuded the aura of a villain during the entire match.
Kaminari says it's actually pretty amazing that he could keep blasting such a delicate little girl, explaining how if it were him, he wouldn't have been able to go through with it.
Tsuyu-chan: Kaminari, you were clearly totally restrained earlier.
Kacchan: What delicate little girl…? (!)
! In the waiting room, Ochako laments how she couldn't do anything against Kacchan, but that just means she needs to move forward and get stronger.
All the while, Deku expressed concern and kept asking if Ochako was alright.
! Meanwhile, the manliest match of all time reaches a conclusion!
The winner of the arm wrestling match is Kirishima!
Tetsutetsu says he should've taken some iron (the mineral) before the match. Is that part of his quirk?
! Just as Deku leaves for his battle, Ochako says a few words of encouragement.
After he leaves, Ochako takes out her phone and calls back her dad.
Her dad and mom were watching the whole thing on TV, and he thinks his little Ochako did a great job out there.
Ochako says it was an overwhelming defeat, but her dad thinks it's fine. The path ahead hasn't been closed off, she can still stride forward.
Ochako was hoping that after winning her first battle someone might come and employ her, because she wants to quickly get a job and earn money for her parents.
Her dad comforts her, telling her she doesn't need to rush that much. Seeing his gentle Ochako fight like that in the tournament, he's confident she'll grow to become a great hero.
! Deku realizes there's no way Ochako could still be fine after that battle, but he wasn't able to do anything, and even had to receive encouragement from her.
Endeavor!!
Looks like he's been looking for Deku. He praised Deku's quirk as a mighty powerful one, to be able to produce that much force with just the flick of a finger.
If we're talking about sheer power, that quirk could rival All Might's.
As Deku tries to make his way to the ring, Endeavor continues. His Shouto was created to defeat All Might.
This match is the perfect testing ground. Try not to mess it up out there.
Deku's retort for that is amazing.
! Deku: I'm not All Might.
Endeavor: That's true.
Deku: Yes, that's certainly true.
Deku: And Todoroki's the same. He isn't you.
! Holy shit Deku, that's the No.2 asshole hero you're talking to!
Next chapter, Deku vs Todoroki! -

Thanks for the links! Alc is SUPER helpful. It'll definitely help with my writing skills.
Horikoshi-sensei updated his twitter with a celebratory sketch for Volume 3's release. (Is Iida trying to imitate Wolverine?)
-
! Momo looks devastated. Poor thing.
I thought I was the only one who noticed.
! Yeah, poor Momo. While Uraraka might be sad, at least she showed an awesome performance. Momo on the other hand got her butt handed to Shadow guy, couldn't do anything at all. Her performance overall in this tournament wasn't so great. She was one of the last runners of the first part and in the 2nd she didn't shined much either in her team/was overhsined by Todoorki and Iida. and now in the 3rd part of the tournament lost immediately.
! She's one of the two only recommended (we don't know if B class has any recommended students also) students of class A yet now she sits among the spectators while Todoroki advanced and had great results in the previous tournament parts as well. And many other students unlike her stood out a lot more than she did. I can see why she looks so downcasted. She must feel very frustrated and irritated right now. -

! She's intelligent and tactical, so her 'practical' skills are likely where she needs to grow. When faced with an enemy who has power and speed, she'll need to be able to do more than simply defend. I don't know if she can increase the speed of her Creation ability, or if she just needs to be more efficient, but anyway I'm assuming that's the intention in her performance being sub-par.
-
! Momo lost to the best guy. No shame in that.
-
English jump is out with chapter 37. Loved it. It was great to see Deku tell Endeavor off like that
-
thought it was a good set-up chapter, Izuku's reply to Endavor was definately the highlight.
-
Guys, do you know how many chapters there will be on Volume 3?
-
! Setup chapter but I am interested in the first half. The Endeavor discussion does not really interest me but it's a nice way to see a more combative Deku I guess.
