Wow thank you! You are awesome btw. Thats the best breakdown of her moves ive seen. Ill definitely have to practice her standard set and practice maneuvering with jump glide.
Super Smash Bros

I play with default Palutena to feel competent in for glory and competitive settings. However, I do have my custom one I enjoy with the following moveset: Superspeed, Jump glide, auto reticle and counter.
Superspeed I like for obvious reasons, mainly ridiculous recovery, approach possibility and the fact you can do different things out of it like short hopped aerials, up smash and grabs. Angelic missile feels terrible and the reflect barrier is nice only occasionally and not quite as diverse.
Jump glide because when doing it from the ground the glide gives me more mobility and becomes an approach option, especially since her aerials are better approach moves with less punishing lag than her dash. Warp is ok but I don't like the lag after it, which reminds me of melee Mewtwo. Rocket jump sucks except for out of shield surprises, but it's not worth it.Auto reticle because it is without a doubt the best option for standard b. I used explosive flame for some time but the main strength of that is people not expecting it. Once they do, the lag and how open it leaves you kind of makes it awful. Heavenly light is terrible imo. Ad while AR also leaves you open often, you can use it more that the others.
I use counter because I like counter moves in general to get out of stupid juggling or combos from the fast, in-your-face characters. Lightweight is also pretty good and I consider it better for an offensive set, but given how easy it is to be punished from killing moves, I don't like the idea of being more lightweight.
Hope that helps!
You're an inspiration for all of us Palutena players.
Do you think there is any use at all for her tilts? I mean besides jab/dash/bair/fair (and occasionally uair to kill) there isn't much else to do from what i've experienced so far.

I'm personally not very happy with her tilts but wind up using them a lot, half the time because I meant to do a smash attack instead.
Ftilt is nice in that you can use it to block most approaches, but again there's the problem that most of her moves have which is that if your opponent is not incompetent then they'll know how to go over it and still punish you. It's a nice option against spammy projectile games if you don't have reflect too, but then it's not like you can do much to follow up. Idk, I'm ambivalent about this move.
DTilt I use out of habit but it doesn't do much aside from being a gtfo type of move that now and then catches people unaware and lakes less forever.
Utilt can be used successfully against aerial characters. In fact, I've noticed certain aerial character can have a horrible time with Palutena, with Jiggly imo having a particularly awful time. You can catch most jigglys, or any character that likes to land with a multi-hit/drill type of attack, with a properly timed Utilt.
However, in the end, like you say, if I want to be doing stuff with palutena I'd say 85% of the game is grabs, aerials, the jab, and specials if you happen to have SS + JG. The 15% is the occasional "surprise!" tilt or smash attack to punish, although even then I always feel safer just grabbing when I want to punish since down throw leads into so many options, with Uair being a reliable killer. The dash happens a lot in the sense that it's an actual shield and catches most people out of guard, but the lag that follows it and how it kills her momentum make me wish I could learn to use it less, personally.

Nothing like superspeed into upsmash:

So is Mewtwo the only DLC confirmed?

Eh? I saw that message but was able to see the thread when I scrolled down…..er, anyways:
! extra spoiler for measure
! it was Rayman. Images include his splash art, and character selection screen with him and Mewtwo.
! Now I'm certainly not jumping on the "this is real!" wagon, but users on reddit and 4chan have pointed out that the pose and eyebrows resemble that of his Sm4sh trophy, and that Mewtwo's render seems to be unique (can't be found)
! images (SPOILERZ)

! Rayman Amiibo.
! Broken on purpose. -
@Some:
not blurry
not taken upside-down
a character most people don't wantholy shit its fucking real…..
13 characters of lol
-
! Since when Rayman had eyebrows?
-
Why are the black bars around the name uneven and jaggy?
If Mewtwo is inserted into that line, doesn't that push Captain Falcon over, and thus, every other character as well? So shouldn't that put Pacman into the frame under Jigglypuff and Sonic under Mewtwo or ROB rather than greeninja? Robin over Rob and Duckhunt over Ness would be consistent with Falcon moving to the next line.
That would only make sense if say, Dr. Mario moved to the top bar or something.
-
!
-
! Sakurai needs to make up his mind.
-
Well, video is pretty much impossible to argue with.
So, Falcon moved to the empty space at the top? (Instead of Dr. Mario who would make some sense there?)
-
Hang on, Captain Falcon seems to be missing from that select screen entirely. If you freeze frame, he's at the top next to Little Mac. It's weird that they'd actively move characters though. -
If that happens to be fake, I at least appreciate the effort put in. Even though I think that series is a ball of bleh. Brace yourselves for an leak avalanche
-
I can't wait to Smash Rayman's stupid trying-too-hard 90s platformer character face in with Captain Falcon and Dark Pit.
And lol at the Amiibo for him.
-

It's weird that they'd actively move characters though.Especially given the roster layout makes no sense in the final lines anyway. Characters away from their games, (Dark Pit, Lucina, Dr. Mario) and no real rhyme or reason to the order given (premiere date? Except then Pacman should be among the first? And game and watch is still in the upper corner.)
To fit someone was gonna have to move somewhere. Course, it'll still be different on the DS layout…. and that will still have 2 more open slots after the 2 new characters.
Were they really just that touched over the company sending them a full model of the character? How does that get in before some sort of Castlevania rep? (An no "too serious" nonsense. If Solid Snake can get in...)
So, Bubsy the Bobcat, Zitz the Battletoad, Bubble Bobble, Bomberman, Ecco the Dolphin, Spyro the dragon, Gex, Banjo Kazooie, Rocket Knight, and Ryu from Street Fighter are next, right? But no Belmont, never a Belmont.

The rhyme and reason is pretty obvious though. Top row is Mario characters, Zelda, Icarus, and FE on Row 2, Kirby, Star Fox, and Pokemon on Row 3, clones, then third-parties at the end. Fill in the holes with single rep franchises, generally by release date.

I would pay soooo much money to Smash bros as Ecco the Dolphin.

The overall groupings make some sense, but the actual placement doesn't. It makes sense for the early characters, but completely falls apart in the last part.
Dark Pit, Lucina and Dr. Mario aren't with their franchises. (okay, so "clones". But why separated from their groups? Toon Link isn't in that section, he's with the originals.)
I guess if its all Nintendo up till Pacman, Megaman and Sonic that makes a little sense that those three are last instead of in there cronologicaly, but their placement just feels weird… as do Game and Watch, Little Mac, Captain Falcon (especially in his new moved position) Duck Hunt and SHulk just sort of being jammed in wherever the hell they fit.
(And the order is slightly different on the DS version, so its not like the row count or chronology dictated the order on both systems.)

@Cyan:

Absolutely no idea how it would work, but… magical water generation or teleports or something. Sonar goes through everything.
-
Likely, Toon Link was planned from the very beginning, and unlike the other people with similar movesets, his model is pretty much entirely different from Link. The other three were pretty much just going to be alt costumes until they decided to throw'em in as actual characters, and to that end I guess they decided to group them as slight tweaks
-
No lies, Bomberman would have been a phenomenal addition.

If it's true, I'm a little disappointed.
On one hand, I'm glad that we are getting more characters. And Rayman would be a fine addition.
On the other hand, the fact that we don't get some kind of DLC CSS and that the original CSS for the Wii U is now completely filled makes me think that that's it and no more characters are planned. So no more hope for Isaac and Bayonetta this time. -

Neither of those was ever going to be on the table.
You'll see Lara Croft first, who at least has a couple decades of history
And she's never going to be in.
-
well the 3ds version still has space and i could see them adding the arrow that was found in the files later on. The arrows are harder to do on the wii u
Also fitting that Sakurai and team represent ubisoft perfectly by making their rep dlc

Also rayman music yes please!
-
But why him? Ubisoft and Nintendo haven't been the best friends lately.

But why him? Ubisoft and Nintendo haven't been the best friends lately.
Rayman Legends was originally supossed to be a Wii U exclusive, but they decide to make multi-platfotm and even Matt Ancel and his crew all protested about it.
-
Also rayman legends is distributed by Nintendo in japan making it exclusive at least in Japan.
And while ubisoft may not have the best of relations with nintendo atm rayman always has. practically every rayman game has been released on a Nintendo platform
-
Alright, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks! When I checked my sub box on Youtube, Gamexplain and EtikaWorldNetwork both confirmed the character, but the video they linked to was down…..I suppose that settles the matter.
Rayman is quite the interesting addition. My own experiences with the series are limited mind you.....I believe I had the first game for playstation, as well as a game for the N64. Both pretty fun games, after that Rayman kinda just slid under the radar.
Ironically, while the Rabbids gave that mainstream party appeal to the series, I was turned off by their antics.
So....what exactly is that series symbol in the footage?
edit: video's still around
-

It's a Lum, they're the coins of Rayman Origins/Legends.
They were something else in the other games but what slips my mind at the moment.

Sounds vaguely familar, thanks.
For a sec I thought it was Rayman's buddy uh….what's the name, Globox?
-
I'm actually excited about Rayman. There are definitely some Nintendo characters I might have wanted first, but Rayman is a pretty iconic figure in gaming and his games are solid platformers filled with a lot of charm.
Ironically, while the Rabbids gave that mainstream party appeal to the series, I was turned off by their antics.
Yeah, the Rabbids almost had the same effect on me, but Origins and Legends are so good that they redeem the series. You should really check them out since they're some of the tightest platformers around (and make sure to bring at least one friend along for the ride to beat up).

Legends is the one for the Wii U, right? Might pick it up as one of those "mmm, why not" kinda titles.

Yeah, Origins is Wii and Legends is Wii U. Honestly, I played Legends on the PS3, but I'm pretty sure having a friend on Wii U to use the gamepad is the expectation, so definitely find someone to bring along if you can.

Cool, my brother sounded pretty stoked when I told him about Rayman in Smash, so it'd carry over.
On that note:
yes, I remember this game now. Green cartridge and all.
-
that's all folks
-
…...someone get me off this wild ride
Sakurai: [laughs]
-
It was just a distraction.
-
Should have stuck with my first instinct, but everyone else kept insisting it had to be real. This is the last time I trust people.
-
It's the inverse of the ESRB leak.
"it's fake, look at Duck Hunt. Dr. Mario and DARK Pit? Shulk looks to be a photoshop of Little Mac's render" -> turns to be real by footage
now here:
"hmm, Rayman has a trophy in Sm4sh, render is based off that, Mewtwo render can't be found…..footage of selecting Rayman??? Oh yeah, it's true"
-> turns out to be a crafted fakeGoes to show the internet is unpredictable.
-
Aww i actually got excited as well. Damn it :(
-
I'd be pretty steamed right now if I were a Rayman fan
-
Dammit, I was gonna come in here debunking the whole thing. Who leaks a video of character select screens when you can either a) change costume color or b) get audio of the announcer saying "Rayman!" or c) run the video five more seconds to show actual gameplay?
I immediately fell for it, yeah, but the more I thought about it, the more convinced I was it was fake.
-
Why are the black bars around the name uneven and jaggy?
Whelp, guess my first instinct was correct.
Video fooled me but yeah… thinking about it if they did have that access it really would have been nothing to get the extra three seconds to show gameplay.
-
