Meh, I'm getting bored of Doflamingo. It was rather nice how he finished Law and Luffy in seconds, but it's gotten formulaic right now, how the fights go and how people always believe in Luffy.
Chapter 760: The Same Stakes
-
-
I love that Donflamingo is literally The Joker of One Piece.
-
That make us wonder why WG still help doflamingo by sending cp0 if he wants to destroy the world that rule by them .
cause he's exploiting them till they're still useful to him
-
Such a short chapter…
And not especially exciting either. It's good to have confirmation of Fujitora's intentions and see that Doula Mango wasn't hyped for nothing - the pace is picking up at last. But at the same time, the fight isn't thrilling either because in the last two chapters, each trade of blows has been decidedly one-sided. Not to mention everyone around settling for the "let's sit and watch" shonen routine.
Last but not least, this backstory is the least interesting of all the possible outcomes his Celestial Dragon lineage could have had. Basically, he's a spoiled brat who never got over the loss of his wealth and mother ? Feels a bit simplistic... -
Random stranger talks back to him… can't kill him off #JustDoflamingoProblems
-
Doflamingo still has CoC. Hmmm want more of how he met his crew.
-
I assume the kid asking to buy slaves is Corazon. Doflamingo is on the left (note the signature forehead vein and asking for a gun; he just shot Law a couple of hours ago).
King Riku and the people of dressrosa are intolerable.
I took it as those are different situations from Doffla's past so it's all him, but i guess his brother might be a twin so it might be him… but not really making sense to me if its Doffla's flashback. He just had 3 different situations showed. He got his vain shown because he got pissed after being assualted by 'common people'. At first he just didnt' grasp the situation that changed and still thought they can buy slaves etc that why he wasn't that mad yet.
-
I fucking love DoFlas backstory… I really was afraid it was some sob shit... Instead he was always that evil bastard.
Yes, I'm also glad it turned out that way. I'm a bit tired of those "good kids turning bad because of a sad past" that too many mangas like to throw at us.
-
There seems to be more to it that that.
He said he saw the "heaven and hell" of the world didn't he?We still have the Corazon and Law stuff to go through too and he said he went through a depression of some sorts because of what happened.
The thing with his father and mother seems to be the catalyst for his story.
I think we should wait for the entire flashback before jumping to conclusions.
People have done that constantly this arc and were wrong each time. What I'm sayin is, saying it himself lowers his coolness no matter what.
Shoulda come outta Trebol's mouth or something."My life sux you kids don't understand" cannot be redeemed in coolness factor even if it was true lol.
He shoulda handled it like the Joker in Dark Knight film at that party scene. Now that was brilliantly creepy.
-
Doflamingo basically went from a Celestial Dragon, the most spoiled people in the whole One Piece world, to a poor guy and after that he had to go from zero to where he is right now, A super strong guy with really strong haki and with multiple businesses. Going from zero to that would already be a huge feat for anybody, but to a mega spoiled brat like him it should be hell, so it is understandable that he thinks his past his hell, when it isn't.
His speech about what Justice being different for poor and rich people and justice is the side that wins certainly comes from the fact that he was both rich and poor and noticed that the people winning were always the just, even him. His other phrase about weak people don't even choose how they die, must be from experience as well.Doflamingo flashback is not a sob story and it was short, but it is insightful about his character.
-
I didn't understand how the crowd changed their minds so quickly. Was it because they had managed to accomplish their goals of capturing the king? Or did they think lets just capture them and then decide..
-
But there is a reason as to why Trebol, Monet and the others loved Doffy so much. And even Doflamingo himself willing to screw things up just to save his family.
Frankly I see all of this as a ruse, because if this backstory is that shallow, most of the things we've seen won't make any sense.
-

There are two boys shown in the panel where Doflamingo's mother is in the bed; one is crying next to her, the other is standing next to the father. But ya know, it's just a hunch.

From Spoiler Section
Aohige's last post b/c Scampanda being Scampanda
Just a couple of things then, sorry I gotta head home asap
Fujitora was "being held back" by Sabo on purpose.
He was betting on the Straw Hat from the start, so him fighting Sabo was mostly a "pose".
So yeah, he was going easy.
He actually has the same idea as King Riku… he doesn't want to see this nation torn in war, and places his bet on the Straw.Dofla's past is underwhelming to be honest…
He was a proud Tenryuubito. But his father decided to cast away his power and become a commoner.
young Dofla wants slaves. He wants guns to shoot the peasants who disagrees with him. He is enraged at mother's death, blaming their poor condition as cause of her death. He kills his father and brings his head to the Tenryuubito, but they would not allow traitors to return to their ranks.
So he decides to destroy the world the Tenryuubito rule.He tells Luffy that the harsh life he lead on a way higher level than theirs, and that he has no time to play with brats.
-
Dat Jinbe revelation though.
Oda rarely does shit like this for no reason.
-
Best part of the chapter was Sabo & Koala.
I wonder what Law's Injection Shot does, is it some kinda sedation or something else…
-
So , I'm the only one who realizes Jinbe's story isn't happening during the events of Dressrosa, but at the beginning when they first arrived?
16 chars of NO :P
ALSO any speculation why DD wants Law's powers? for Nobles plan or something else?

It's becoming more and more likely that they were slaves.
-
Is Oda still writing One Piece? The hell was that backstory? Dofla just went from great to dull character.
-

Apparently, it injects a (probably haki-infused) blade in the subject's brain, leading to immediate and possibly terminal sedation. Secondary effects of horrendous headache shall be anticipated.

Would certainly explain Dofla's quick intervention.
-
I don't see us going into a full flashback yet. I'm not even sure if we'll get to see one from Doflamingo's perspective. It might just be bits here and there.
Law's part should be longer though. -

Law's part should be longer though. This is likely since all the flashbacks in this arc have been shown in pieces.
-
They probably want Law's power because it's really useful… just like Sugar's, Viola's, and whatever Manshelley has.
I'm happy with Doflamingo just being a dick and wanting to destroy everything.
I'm also happy that the whole blood discrimination theme is continuing with Doflamingo not being allowed back in because of something his father did.
-
Doflamingo's dad is probably the first example of a straight, morally upstanding, good Tenryuubito we've seen in the story.
Nefertari family didn't become a World Noble in the first place, so it doesn't count.
-
I'm disappointed Luffy let Dofla attack Law so easily like that, and even got attacked himself. It's just an awful thing in a team fight, and it was just right after a brilliant team work.
-
more op powers for law
"also with the rarest of the powers"
is this the usual "ability" meaning just df, or is there more to it?oh and he says "leaving his family of four behind"
sooo corazon + dofla + mom + someone elseMight be a reference to his CoC.
Not that I can be sure with that panda translation
-

I got the opposite impression. How often do we see a backstory for a villain like this?
Doflamingo's Tenryubito father wanting to live a normal life, the Tenryubito rejecting Doflamingo - this is fascinating stuff. It only adds to Doflamingo's mystique.I completely disagree with Aohige that it makes Doflamingo come off as "less cool" saying he had a hard life. Dofla has no reason to think otherwise. I mean, it's not like he knows Luffy or Robin's pasts. He's a completely arrogant person, so it fits his character to think that his tough childhood elevates him above others.
-
Why so upset over a tiny flashback. If that part of Dofla's childhood was so important, Oda would have given it more page space.
So, Jinbei was shown reading the papers just before SH came to Dressrosa. It means cover story is couple of hours behind. I imagine Jinbei will get sidetracked with whatever destroyed that house and the boat until he goes to Dressrosa or stumbles unto Sunny team.
Also, I don't like how easilly Dofla pwned Luffy and Law. It's like they are sitting ducks. Last week people complained how Dofla should have been able to dodge. Isn't this week the same with Luffy and Law?
-
hmm,if that's all there's about dofla's past,it's kind of underwhelming,hope there's more
still no idea what the deal with fuji is.
the battle was good, dofla still seems a beast, manage to beat luffy in terms of raw physical strenght is no easy feat,in fact, the only one who ever got at the same level with him in that regard was Lucci
-
@The:

Because it's an awesome ability.
-

You're right about third panel, I haven't noticed the boy crying on bed. But I still think, that those first 2 panels were Doffla's. Makes more sense to me.
-

Or.. Doflamingo is just tthat good.
Last week was surprising. The aame trick wont work twice.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Because it's an awesome ability.
Why wouldnt hax man want the hax hax fruit?
-
Seems people are divide when it comes to Don back story so far .
Truth is even after the flashback finish i won't mind if Don is just a crazy spoiled brat.
Everything we have seen so far from him reflects what happens in his childhood. -
Doflamingo's dad is probably the first example of a straight, morally upstanding, good Tenryuubito we've seen in the story.
Nefertari family didn't become a World Noble in the first place, so it doesn't count.
Well there's also the guy who gave Otohime permission to migrate Fishman island, tough he never appeared on-screen.
Personally I believe they aren't all that bad. Most of them probably are but different levels of morality have been all over the place both among the Marines and pirates. I don't see why World Nobles wouldn't be any different.
-
Doffla being spoiled and evil from the beggining? Not making him any less of a badass for me.
-
Thinking really quickly, the only other villains besides Dofla that had illustrated back stories that come to mind are Kuro and Hody. Kuro was a conniving dick that attacked his own men. And Hody hated humans for the sake of humans. None of the three have anything redeeming about them.
Compare them to Crocodile and Moriah who have backstories that we didn't see, but we are at least aware they were both crushed in their pre-Luffy lives.
-
Poor Usopp… His face when he realized an Admiral was nearby :D
Overall I felt a bit disappointed with Doflamingo, again, taking complete control of the situation and begins to monologue... Well, in all honesty I think it is ok for him to monologue (afterall, what else can a villain do?) but at this point I would have wanted to see Luffy fighting and coming out victorious. Now he's tied up and not winning much at all.
Luffy even had his arm raised and imbued with haki, that should have meant something. But yeah, he's not angry enough to win yet I suppose, whereas Doflamingo is so angry all he can do is laugh it off.Anywho! As far as I can tell we are having a chapter next week! Is this some kind of record?
-
Maybe no more breaks but always 13 pages? …. noooooooooooo or maybe yes?
-
BTW, this doesn't translate to English, but young boy Doflamingo spoke in that stupid sounding Celestial Dragon nobility dialect like the others.
Dialect always ending ~e. Making him sound even more like a typical spoiled brat CD. -
I expected for Luffy to be strong enough to at least have done some damage, unless that's clone who's talking during this chapter.
It was supposed to be one of his strongest attacks. I'm underwhelmed by Luffy's lack of strength when other "worse" characters at least have ways to do lethal damage with one hit. Even Bellamy seemed to slice his belly with swords in this chapter. My opinion. -
Might be a reference to his CoC.
Not that I can be sure with that panda translation
Actually, it's his WN status.
-
Koala berating Sabo seems to suggest that every time he goes off handle its Hack and her that gets blamed or censured. I wonder if that means Sabo himself is hierarchically no where near as high as Dragon himself. It would be awkward if the second in command can be held to account by someone other than the first or Dragon himself.
-
Id like to think that Fujitora was killing time against Sabo and not necessarily "holding back". If Sabo was strong enough to be Dragon's second hand then he should be able to handle an Admiral. And that's before he ate the Mera Mera.
I've never been satisfied with Oda's power scale. Mihawk for example, should be much more powerful than he's been depicted in the story thus far. Mihawk should be as strong as a Yonkou. But that's for another discussion.
Joker does seem to be slightly over powered though.
-
Doflamingo's dad is probably the first example of a straight, morally upstanding, good Tenryuubito we've seen in the story.
Nefertari family didn't become a World Noble in the first place, so it doesn't count.
And based to what Tontata's says about past Donquixote members the first one also
-
Damn! Why is Doflamingo so strong? Why is Luffy so weak? Can't imagine that Red Hawk did nothing. This DD isn't playing.

Doflamingo's dad is probably the first example of a straight, morally upstanding, good Tenryuubito we've seen in the story.
We've also had the father of the Tenryuubito who travelled to Fishman Island. He also seemed to be not that a bad person.
However, I don't really like Doffy's father. He may have some noble intentions, but completely fails in the execution. The opposite of complete luxury isn't complete poverty. Considering that his deceased wife was lying at such a miserable place just shows me that he even let his family members die for his ideals instead of actually doing everything that his wife will not die (like going to better doctors).
Doffy may have been a spoiled brat, but blaming his father for his mother's death seems completely justifiably to me.
-
Is that the secret of Doflamingo past? All that mistery surrounding the character for that two pages full of cliches?
Oda, you can do better than this.
-
I think the main problem in Dofla's story for me is not Dofla himself, but his father.
Here we have a Tenryuubito, who just decided he's going to live like a commoner. Without any kind of luxury. Just look at that bed ffs.
Who is that guy? Why did he want to live like that? Why didn't he take some of his money and riches with him? What the fuck is his story?I feel like there's more to this flashback. Usually, when characters are shown as shadows in flashback, they tend to appear again later on.
