Chapter 757: The Trump Card
-
-
You think Sabo was a last-minute addition to the arc when the prize up for grabs was Ace's Flame Logia fruit…
Just seems highly unlikely IMO.
He probably wasn't, but sure as hell feels like it.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Internal damage work not blunt force.
You know, I was going to go on another rant about physics, but thought better of it.
-
One question and one question only: where the fucking fuck is Burgess?
Probably with the CP0…
-
i find the "i can finish any fight with a meteor" logic more hilarious
luffy would see that shit coming in slow motionWell, someone needs to be crashed by that meteor one day. Might as well be rubber man.
And beside CoO is the most useless kind since it was properly explained. Except for bullets.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Humhum sure! But the way I see it Luffy can punch a meteor to pieces before it enters the troposphere. Of course this statement is based on nothing!
Luffy's still Sabo's level though.
But Sabo's ain't on Fujitora's level…
-
great chapter …....
-
My opinion on the top five strongest characters on the island:
- Fujitora
- Sabo = Burgess
- CP0 Chief
- Doffy
- Luffy = Law
-
I have no idea what you people had expected from Rebecca. She had an emotional breakdown in the Colosseum against Diamante even with the support of Barto and Sabo. The same to happen this time around was kind of expected.
In typical One Piece style Rebecca calls for help, and who shows up? The exact person she was begging to save her. We then get a couple of flashbacks about Rebecca being taught as an orphan about how she had to learn to protect herself because no one would be able to save her, but now her dad is finally back in her life and she doesn't have to protect herself no more… Maybe a bit cheesy, but all of it made sense nonetheless.
This chapter ended a 10 year strugling of an orphan. When we first met Rebecca she was all alone in the Colosseum with enemies every where. Now she has a father figure and friend(s), and her enemies are slowly disappearing.
Rebecca has no role as a heroine in this story. Violet fits that character type much more.
-
She made it clear before that she doesn't like to fight, I can get (and totally understand) that. Not everyone is a fight monger like Zoro or Luffy. But she's been doing it all this time, she only needed one last push. Again, was she afraid of dying? Hell, she could've died a thousand times in the Colosseum before, yet she mustered up enough courage to try and take the Mera Mera by herself and dethrone Dofla on her own! That's actually closer to having a death wish than being afraid to die. And yet, as soon as she sees Diamante, she's so scared and/or tired of all the fighting (SERIOUSLY, NEED HELP WITH THE TRANSLATION IN THERE! HAAAAALP!) she can only run away and cry for her daddy's help? No, sorry, it makes not much sense.
Again, whoever expected Becca to wreck or even manage to stand against Diamante for more than 1 minute was fooling him/herself. But I DID expect her to at least try and slash her mother's killer instead of going "oh shit, the man who killed my mother, he's gonna do the same to me, I'm scared, I'm outta here!". That was honestly disgraceful, independently of her mindset or willingness to fight.
In fact, that was even an act of betrayal towards her fellow countrymen. Fuck, THEY're trying to do something on their own! Yes, something incredibly stupid and foolish (going after Dold's head), but they're trying to act cause they can't stand seeing their friends and family killing themselves right in front of them. Rebecca is at the frontlines, but as soon as her mission of "giving the key to Law and Luffy" finds a stone in her way (Diamante), she runs away? The little girl that tried to save the entire country on her own, now that has plenty of companions to help push her forward and give her strength, now of all times, this little girl crumbles and runs away in an act of sheer cowardice? When even your average Joe armed with a fucking broomstick is trying to help end this nightmare, putting their lives on the line, Rebecca of all people suddenly thinks "oh shit imma get killed I'm out BYE!"??????
No amount of explanations will make this right.
No, but depending on what else happens, the blow can be at least softened. Nothing will make me okay with what happened, even if for some reason a flashback happens to show what happened, it will be to late. However, If she does do some stuff, she can be redeemed and at least it won't leave as bad of a taste.
Well, someone needs to be crashed by that meteor one day. Might as well be rubber man.
And beside CoO is the most useless kind since it was properly explained. Except for bullets.

But Sabo's ain't on Fujitora's level...
And Fujitora ain't Akainu's level! CoO does seem pretty useless at this point. It seems OP when only one person has it, like in Skypeae, but now it just seems pointless. Maybe it will be used more later, but for now I only now remembered it was a thing
-
Idk why people complain about the princess not fighting enough, jeez people, they are princesses, why do you expect them to as strong willed as the strawhats and what not.
zachri has been like the only sane person addressing this topicRebecca was never the strong willed type. What did people expect Rebecca to do when she couldn't even hold herself against Diamante in the Colosseum at all?
Never thought I'd see the words 'zachri' and '(only) sane' in the same sentence.
Someone quote this for the history books. -
Luffy & Law vs Doflamingo is pretty much confirmed.
There also seems to the start of what looks like a character development moment for Rebecca. Should be interesting to see how her character changes for the better or worse.
-
You know, I was going to go on another rant about physics, but thought better of it.
It might be(or seems) stange but that's how OP works.
-
I'd love it if she overcame her mental blocks, thinking along the lines, "how stupid I was to forget what my father taught me. I can't give up no matter what!" and then form a tag team with Kyros against Diamante. Like she uses her fighting style to redirect Diamante to where Kyros is waiting and BAM! Justice and revenge for Scarlet. Or something like that. It would be a nice way to show reconciliation between Rebecca's inherent nonviolence and her father's teachings.
That would be pretty fucking brilliant imo. Theres another way Oda could go about developing her character further as well, but for now I just wanna wait and see what happens next.
-
Man this chapter was the most fun I've had reading One Piece in a good few months. That one panel of Franky Vs Senor Pink was all I needed. Also Bartolomeo getting called awesome by his hero and then getting saved by Robin too. This has been the best day of his life and I'm so happy for him. Cabbage avenging his horse was also great.
Rebecca continues to be lame but I can't blame her, she inherited her lame genes from her mother who in turn inherited it from her useless father.
-
@Hamburger:
My opinion on the top five strongest characters on the island:

If you go past Doffy you have more than 5.
-
I think the best case scenario would be for Rebecca to go " My dad has always been protecting him but here am I unable to protect him. I'm grateful for what he did. But now it is think for me to fight my own battles and protect him instead. I'm no longer a child!"
A coming of age redemption with tons of crying would do her good.
But considering the way Oda handle Usopp " I don't want to fight trebol while my friends are getting beaten to a pulp". I'm setting myself up for disappointment. -
Very nice chapter. If Law ends up fighting the last executive considering his history with Mingo, that will be quite a disappointment. Really interest in his and Doflamingo's backstory, and how their fight will pan out by the end.
-
@Rogues':
Because she's a woman. Like "emotional stress" has ever been a legitimate excuse that's stopped Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, etc. from backing down against an opponent.
I'm sure Kyros is under a lot of 'emotional stress' right now! what with his leg missing, having been a toy solider for 10 years, the island in chaos and everyone he ever loved literally forgetting his existence until this very afternoon and now he's confronting the man who murdered his wife (who died bleeding out in his cold tin arms) before his very eyes, but you don't see him having a nervous breakdown.
'emotional stress' is a double-standard excuse, like how women's ides of equality could be blamed on their 'emotional female hysteria' back in the 1800's.
I mean, c'mon:
[hide]http://oi62.tinypic.com/141jigh.jpg[/hide]
This is just deteriorating and pathetic characterization.
Not really. While it does make her look pathetic humans are naturally walking masses of various desires that often conflict and contradict one another.
-
His existence bugs the shit out of me since first mention at MarineFord, put in him in my sign as one of the strongest ones in the side of the good ones doesn't really makes me accept he was planned from the very beggining of the series.
Still…
!
!
Far from impossible.
Maybe Oda planned for Ace's tattoo to be a result of misunderstanding (always thought it was awesome) and then changed it to memory of Sabo. Or maybe it was because of Sabo from the start. We may never get to know for sure.

Right. To complete your train of thought though, it's gotta be this.
[hide][/hide]After all, Ace was never shown to have seen Sabo's flag.
If you guys want symbolism on the Mera Mera and why Sabo, there's always this.

But since they were friends, I don't doubt Ace knew of his flag design. I knew about the letter, the flag was just easier to find.
Still, I honestly can't say for sure if I think Sabo was planned from the start or not.
-
Different setting, different situation. You think Senor Pink would last this long if he was attacking fully powered General Franky and his arsenal of weapons from above?
He could theoretically swim through the General and hit Franky from the inside.
Just a random thought.
-

With Law that worn out (and a power relyng on stamina) and Luffy fresh? Luffy gets the fight. Maybe Law will be used as puppet. I picture him being the Vegeta of Freezer.
-
I would think that Pink would be able to just pop up from below and sink the General. Assuming he can bring other crap with him in the ground.
-

I don't see why he wouldn't be able to. He could make the ground all soupy then just let it sink, no?

As a team? Doubt it.
-
law's job is to get mingo's heart
and then luffy will take mingo down~ -
Unpopular opinion: I want to see Luffy get turned into a toy just to see what happens when everyone forgets him.
-
Law might ditch Luffy and try to fight Doflamingo alone. Get wasted and Luffy takes over.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Might have already been said to death but I didn't read the thread so:
Is Fujitora stalling time with Sabo to wait for Luffy to waste Doflamingo?
I mean, he has to have an excuse why he didn't do anything in Dressrosa to tell Akainu.
His actually wants Luffy to take out Doflamingo and has made a "bet" on him. Maybe? -
I sometimes forget how strong the non-Monster Trio Straw Hats are. Robin is clearly in charge of both Barty and Cabbage here, totally unfazed by murderous nutcrackers, and dishing out a ton of damage.
-

While the nutcrackers crack nuts, Robin crushes nuts, just ask Franky.

Glorious work Kishido-Chicken-Kun!

That scene with Franky and Senor Pink fighting got a smile from me. Also, Robin's speech was the best part of the chapter in my opinion. I'm glad that, We found out more about Barto's ability and he got to shine. He's getting closer to not being such a fanboy around Luffy and the Strawhats . I'm looking forward to see the upcoming fights. As much as I thought it would be cool to see Rebecca fight, She was trained to dodge, block and be fast .She's also not up to par with anyone like Diamante , I think her initial fight against Diamante was out of anger , as someone pointed out She's acting on animal instinct to flee and I while was hoping for her to fight to see more of what She can do, I accept that it's not in her nature outside of the gladiator ring to fight and now I'm looking forward to see Kyros to fight Diamante . It would be awesome.
I'm not sure if I'm happy that Law got freed, I just don't feel like being glad for his freedom. Oh, Well it's a side moment that got resolved . I predict that Law might get a moment to shine, but Dolflamingo will curbstomp him. Also, I enjoyed the moment with Fujitora and Sabo. -
yoo haven't posted in awhile
Anyways great chapter overall in my opinion. I always look forward and enjoy these Barto moments as usual.
I was sort of half expecting Fujis side gravity trick or something like it to show up sooner or later.
-
this chapter was good shits about to go down.
-

Been thinking the same thing which led me to believe that Trebol may have something to do with the whole Corazon ordeal.
Luffy and Law vs Dofla will make Robin's comment rather silly as well.

sorry I can just gush over this all day.
Have to enjoy the this day as much as possible lol
-
I repeat. Diamante is a fxxking loser lololol.
How can Law stand straight up? IIRC he got shot several times in the chest. Is he even human?
-
Am I wrong or did Robin never even turn around when she saved Barto? I see she briefly turned her head when she told Luffy to watch out. Either way, she kinda did the "cool guys don't look back at explosions" thing.
-

-
So I see people don't really like the idea of Luffy AND Law vs. Doffy. Care to elaborate? I'd actually be open to it, they both have beefs with him and it'd allow Doffy to retain some of his hype if he lost to two opponents instead of one.

That tatto-thing had never convinced me, just remember how Luffy got his first scar, pretty sure that "S" was a typo, a very convenient typo that editor and a manga artist could usted to convince people by not confirming nothing.

People likes Luffy kicking the big bad's ass. And it would make Luffy appeared weak compared to Doffly.

Would that really be a bad thing? Doffy is pretty much second only to the Emperors in how hyped-up he's been.

Yes.
It makes Doula Mongo look unnecessarily strong at Luffy's own expense.
If Luffy teamed up with Law against Doula Mongo, then the battle would have to be a curbstomp (which would be disappointing because of all the hype). If Luffy + Law struggled, then it would also be disappointing as it would make Luffy look very weak. You can't just say that Luffy + Law vs. Doula Mongo would be ok as long as Luffy struggled (that's just plain stupid and misses the point). Luffy has to struggle and be convincing at the same time.
It's a lose-lose situation.

I really don't see it that way , we already saw Don beat the hell out of Law so we know he is no match for him on his own .
Plus Don has one of the best DF we have seen and it also happen to be good against Luffy since it cutting base.
Don can just make a clone of him self and take on both at the same time or maybe make them fight against each other for a short while. -
I feel like I need to rant now. Because. Rants. Everybody loves rants.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED - MASS RANT BELOW ABOUT REBECCA (again)
[hide]I'm seeing tonnes of peeps like 'omg oda so sexist to rebecca omg' and shit but who's REALLY being sexist?
Everybody is judging Rebecca by her GENDER, instead of her BACKGROUND. If Rebecca was a guy, their background would still be the same and they'd still act the same, but would people call it sexist? No. They'd call it Coby Number 2 and be whining.
The point is, Rebecca was never meant to be a fighter. The only reason she fought in the coliseums was because Doflamingo made her, and the only reason she participated in the main one for the Mera Mera no Mi was because she thought she could use what experience she'd been force through to help her, and she hoped that if she could find a way to get the fruit that maybe she would stand a fighting chance.
Think about a characters BACKGROUND before their GENDER. If you consider gender a thing, imagine their background, and flip the genders, then see how ironic you're being.
BACKGROUND PEOPLE.
BACKGROUND.[/hide]o v o* Love how the moment I label something a 'rant' and include 'Rebecca' in it, people instantly go 'lol nope'.
Probably should have just labelled it a rant in general.
Or just like.
A big talk of reality.
https://31.media.tumblr.com/39b68e2d5436a51df46a642bee3d95f3/tumblr_inline_naljfo1No71sa0onw.gifActually, I thought you were pretty spot on with this. When I read the scene and then saw the complaining, all I could think was that Diamante doesn't lose if he gets "knocked out of the flower field". Rebecca's fighting style hasn't actually been to fight, but to evade until the enemy made a stupid mistake in a limited space. That's how she was taught. So if anyone's upset about that, then they shoud be complaining about Soldier for not training her to fight as opposed to defend.
Now if she had been a boy instead? Could have gone either way: "Coby 2.0" with the same background, or a fighter with the boy getting a more offense-oriented training by daddy-dearest. Now ask yourselves this: would Kyros have trained a son differently than he did his daughter?
-
Were the hell is Burgess is he still sitting on his arse while all this shit is going down? This should be right up his street, speaking of missing people is gambia still out, how hard did maynard hit him.
-
I love that chapter! But I still miss trebol/sugar, as well as Leo/MonCherry!
So we have mostly all fight arranged and I think we will see good action!
I like the Franky/Señor Pink-manly Dancing Action and I am pretty sure Franky will win easily! The fights on level 2 will also be easily won by the "gladiators".
Robin/Barto/Cabbage will struggle a bit more, but only because of the immortal puppets.
Zoro is no question. He will defeat Pika, but it will take a bit longer, as Pika refuses to get directly hit.
Deus-Ex-Sabo will at least hold Zatoichi back, until Dofla is defeated, which Law and Luffy will do. I don't see how, but I surely imagine Leo as the needle-fruit-user to be super effective againt the string-fruit-user anyhow. As suger will probably go for Usopp, maybe trebol joins her (I really dunno). So who will fight them? Burgess? What does he do? I hope we will get answers in the next chapter!
-

The blackbeard pirates are gonna show up at the end and whoever is dead and steal his devil fruit ability like they did whitebeard probally.
Blackbeard just waiting on the right moment to show up.
