@Galaxy:
Looks nice, even animation looks good.
I'm leaning towards Nakatani/Isochi, since there is not enough strawhats to judge.
3 good looking eps in a row, man #637 could end up by Deguchi. The chapter I was looking forward to from the early stuff. I hope Otsuka/Takagi for #637.
-
I first work on photoshop ^^
i really liked this scene of bellamy and lufy after 2 year or 3 xD
I hope that you like itoriginal picture :
Some additions :

Thanks man. This shows that Tate does his own designs for his episodes. Amazing!
-
This makes me wonder if Tate Naoki had a greater lead-in time for his episodes.
-
There is nothing amazing about Tate's designs/art.

You don't need to be a specialist to declare that, only a pair of eyes.

Also, that first example looked perfectly fine to me o_0. That Robin design looks better than most ones that are drawn.
-
Are you aware that if someone scared you to death, recorded it on high quality camera and then played it in slow motion, your face would look as ugly as luffy's on that pic you posted? That is why Tate shouldn't be judged by separate frames from his scenes.

No one said anything about his animations, I realize they are fluid. I actually thought that's why people liked him in the first place.
Also, that Robin design looks nothing like Oda's Robin, so regardless on whether you like it or not, he failed to adopt the original design.
@Dahaka.:

Please.
These aren't the only scenes that show deformed bodies/faces in Tate's episodes. Even still frames look bad a lot of the time.I value art over fluid animations, so I dislike Tate.
-
His style does not sacrifice art, I love his art, he is an amazing artist. Only one in One Piece that can bring out the charachter emotions. Also, only one that does Lip sync.
Toei needs to let Tate work with great talent, most of the bad scenes are Tate correcting other terrible animators.
Also, people tend to forget that great animation does not only need talent, but a great amount of time. A luxury no animator can have on One Piece.
You don't need to be a specialist to declare that, only a pair of eyes.
Oh, man. Gotta love Tate's Robin. I love how he draws the expressions.
Thanks for reminding me of this scene.
-
The character model is only the beginning of animation. Animation ends long after the character model. Tate Naoki is perhaps the one animator who really knew how to use the character model on this series to actually express something. To inspire an emotion in the audience.
-
Also similar to Eiasku Inoue back in the day, Tate actually stayed closer to Robin's manga design. During the Koizumi era Robin had much rounder and older looking design reflecting how she looked when she first appeared. I always liked Tate's Robin with gave her more age appropriate features.

RIP Robin's tan.
I know you were probably joking, but I've never understood this complaint. Wasn't she on a winter Island? Doesn't your skin get pale or something to adapt to the environment?
-
I'm not really complaining, but it was a design aspect that made her look rather unique even in the face of some of the homogenization Oda's artstyle went through.

I see, I do suppose that is a valid thing to bring up. Though I never saw it as a deal breaker or anything
-
It's not even a contest, easku inoue draws the best robin, the slender refelctive eye that look similar mysterious, black sheen hair and even more defined noise.
Now if only someone could kick in the balls whoever decides to adds shiny boobs in some shots.
-
I'm pretty sure the shiny boob thing is something Inoue adds himself. It's too consistent in his style to really be anything but.

[03/30] 638: One-hit Knockout! The Amazing King Punch
[04/06] 639: Fighting Fish Attack! Breaking Through the Death's Iron Bridge -
don't tell me deguchi is doing most of the b block…
-
Ugh deguchi. Why didn't they have him do 639 and yokoyama 637? Bad decision.
-
Deguchi? Really? At least he isn't on 638, looking forward to it. Is the staff for that episode good?
-
Ouch, I was afraid of that when I noticed what the early lineup was looking like. Fingers crossed that Deguchi's episode retains the mojo that 628 had.
On the plus side that being followed by an Isochi/Nakatani team-up and an Otsuka-directed episode should hopefully make up for any disasters B-Block may suffer.
-
It's kind of weird to see Ootsuka and Miyamoto pairing up. I wonder if Ootsuka came in at the last moment for Miyamoto who originally planned on directing?
-
Okay, I have mixed feelings on this list, I have to say that 2 of my favorite chapters in the first quarter are handled by two of the best Directors at the moment, Tokoro and Otsuka, but are sakkaned by the weakest ADs Deguchi and Yokoyama.
636
Script: Tanaka Hitoshi
Storyboard: Ueda Yoshihiro
Episode director: Ueda Yoshihiro
Animation director: Takagi MasayukiFirst thing, I have to say that I'm surprised this is Takagi, he is getting better or Hisada is really helping out a lot. Characters look on model.
637
Script: Uesaka Hirohiko
Storyboard: Tokoro Katsumi
Episode director: Tokoro Katsumi
Animation director: Deguchi ToshioMan, I was hoping this would look good, I hope Ito does some Key Animation, he usually does a lot of cuts, also he worked last time with Deguchi.
638
Script: Suga Yoshiyuki
Storyboard: Hiraike Ayako
Episode director: Hiraike Ayako
Animation director: Isochi Yusuke & Nakatani YukikoThis is gonna look good, lot's of action here. I was wondering what Studio Guts was cooking since 625…This might be very interesting. 2 Animation Directors usually is a good sign.
639
Script: Yonemura Shoji
Storyboard: Miyamoto Hiroaki
Episode director: Otsuka Takashi
Animation director: Yokoyama KenjiI really liked this chapter, I'm glad they are giving it extra attention. As long as Yokoyama doesn't do much Key Animation. This should be good.
-
I was worried that the pacing seems to be getting bad lately, but seeing as episode 638 (the 10th episode of the arc) will most likely include the King Punch from chapter 609 (the 10th chapter of the arc), then it seems like things are getting back on schedule!! Unless, they show the king punch here but skip out on the stuff beforehand, but lets face it, it wouldn't make any sense to put the stuff before the punch, until after it. So it looks good then!
-
Oh, I didn't notice that Isochi and Nakatani are teaming up. YEEEEEES! :)

DeguchI did a great job when he was teamed up with Hiraike Ayako for 628 so I would of liked to see that team up again. shame to see Tokoro Katsumi with anyone but the best, he did a fantastic job with kenji on his last episode.
Otsuka should be with Takagi there a good team and yokoyama kenji with Ueda.
Yokoyama kenji isn't the same man anymore since time skip his made big improvements so people should really give him some credit for it.
638 overall looks like the best team.

Robin is like the settei make during the same ARC
Do you think it is the same animator draw the settei too?

Yes, did you miss when we were talking about Naoki Tate? lol
I hope you have more Tate stuff.
-
Okay, im very unfamiliar with the people doing the episode so can someone fill me in about Deguchi? Is he that bad?
-
eYes, he's the worst. But to be fair, I enjoyed some of his latest episodes, though maybe because he got paired up with good people.
-

Do you have any screenshot of his work or what episodes did he worked on?
-
I'm on my phone so I don't, sorry.

Here http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Episodes_Animated_by_Toshio_Deguchi . He's terrible. His art is deformed and his animation is even worse.
-
I'm so glad that they have a character sheet for Vergo in his Terminator Haki form.
-
Neat that they have full-body models for all of the background fodder and costume variants that were never used in show, like Robin with her coat's hood up.

You mean this, right?
(Such an awfully drawn shot, by the way.)

Looks fine, is it a far shot?
I never expect background characters to be properly drawn. Especially on a long running series.

Why are they still keeping him? I hope he doesn't fuck up Block B

It is a far shot, and a pretty good one at that.
-
Darn it, why the heck Deguchi got the episode with tons of fighting, they had a such a nice spree of episodes and it'll all be ruined with his episode. Can't he get more fillerish and talk-oriented episodes? Block B was my favoruite colosseum block, such a shame that most of it will probably be ruined with deformed characters and still pictures :/
I'll be mad if they ruin any Barto scene :< -
Interview with Hisada (Animation Director)
-
Interview looks interesting, I hope someone gives a good translation.
BTW, did you guys see the pics from #637 in the General One Piece thread? The bottom pic looks like Tomita's work.
I guess Deguchi will have a bunch of good animators again thanks to Tokoro.
