Rap Critic reviews "Timber" by Ke$ha and Pitbull.

Good review. "Timber" is another song that's awful that I absolutely love. I really hope that's not a trend this year…
Also, I hadn't seen the music video for Timber before watching this review, and honestly, I really didn't need to see Pitbull shirtless. :sick:

So… Why is it so quiet here about Doug's Adventure Time vlogs?
Doug just watched Holly Jolly Secrets Part II and, just like with his Avatar vlogs, he never gets excited about the same stuff as all of the fans do. Here? He still thinks the joke about Ice King's glasses at the end was what made Finn give the tapes away and that the whole Simon thing was just a joke...
Really, this is probably the first and only time in the years of talking with people about AT that I saw someone take this as a joke.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
If he calls "I remember you" boring or something, the internet will absolutely murder him
EDIT: Then again, this shouldn't be surprising after his Last Airbender Vlogs; Doug can be a little slow on the uptake sometimes, and either miss crucial points or misinterpret things wholesale ("WHAT DOES THE MOON MEAN TO WATERBENDERS???").

Hey! Lindsay did a thing! 8D
With the recent release of Pompeii (which was apparently awful), Lindsay has taken it upon herself to compare the classic volcano disaster films: It's 'Dante's Peak' vs 'Volcano'!

@Aru:

Because everyone stopped watching them.
Because they were boring after the first couple and Doug doesn't really get it and his sidekick constantly going "I won't say if this comes up again"or "yes, this character comes back but I can't say anymore because spoilers" isn't very entertaining. His sidekick would be more interesting if he was reviewing on his own maybe, unhindered by Doug's first-timing.
The fact that he completely missed the Simon reveal is… well... really?
Avatar he was genuinely excited about... this he only does for the click bait.

Yeah… He's not he best reviever around. On the other hand - the guy that does AT vlogs with him and his wife are awesome. I'd love to listen to them both do vlogs for the new AT episodes, without Doug. Really, they are probably the only reason I'm still watching these.

That's a pretty elitist thing to say. Even if it's not your intent, to say he doesn't get it implies he's lesser fan whose opinion is worth less or something. He may not be a hard-core, totally into the show and gets all the brilliance and nuance of the show sort of fan but he still likes the show and laughs at it and appreciates its originality and can offer insight in terms of comedy or direction. Yeah, missing the Simon thing was kinda dumb but we all have our brain farts.
I like the vlogs, it's fun to see a first-timer get through the show and show his genuine reactions to the wacky absurdities. And I resent the notion he's only doing it for traffic. I don't know on what basis you're making this claim but if that were the case, he'd have stopped ages ago like he was planning to before he could finally get into the show.
-
Okay, as a guy who is not caught up with Adventure Time and is watching the episodes alongside Doug, I find that the vlogs are generally pretty amusing and I do think Doug is genuinely enjoying the show. And, for the most, I do think he understands the show and gets what it's about.
As for the Simon stuff, yeah, it's true that he did miss the bigger picture, but given how much this show likes to fool with its audience (and this if the first time we've had a huge reveal like that), I think it's understandable. It's not that he thinks the Simon stuff didn't happen or didn't matter, he just missed the effect it was meant to have. As the video shows, he really did love the episode, just maybe for the wrong reasons.
-
@Thousand:

I stopped watching the vlogs pretty early on. For all of them he pretty much just kept going "This is weird, I don't get it. I thought that design was neat. How about the guy next to me says how much he enjoys it? Does that character appear again? No, wait, don't tell me." and it got repetitive, really fast, and I repeatedly got the impression that it was too weird for him and he probably wouldn't have kept going if he wasn't obligated to… and he was letting his friend and his wife do the heavy lifting on having something to talk about. I stopped after about 10 episodes of that.
Did he move past that at some point somewhere in the last 50 or 60 episodes?

Well, he still does the reviews alongside what's-his-face, and occasionally the latter's wife (even their daughter has showed up once or twice). And occasionally, yes, he asks, "Does this character show up again?" only to go unanswered, though most of the time now it's more like, "I hope this character shows up again."
And as I said before, he has fully embraced the show and knows what it's about. It definitely doesn't weird him out anymore (or at least not nearly as much).
All I can say is, if you're up for it, go ahead and watch one of his more recent AT vlogs and see for yourself. It'll only take about 10 minutes of your time.
-
Well, good to hear he's actually gotten into it somewhere along the way. It was feeling reeeeally forced that first bunch of vids, like he really didn't want to do it and was only going along with it because so many people asked him to… especailly with soooo many episodes.
I suppose I'll watch the christmas episode to try and understand how he doesn't get the history reveal is a big deal. (Though for me that was one of the first episodes I saw... which might have shaped the whole tone of the show differently for me.)

These days, he could do it on his own but chooses to do it with the other guy because they play off well with each other. He has gotten much, much better than the olden days in my opinion. He clearly likes it and is enthused by it. You should have seen the last episode. He missed the reveal completely but he wouldn't stop going about how funny he found the joke about the glasses. He's definitely into the show at this point, took a while (and can you blame him lol?) but he's got it.
-
Although his Vlogs are not as interesting as his Avatar-Vlogs, i still watch it in the background sometimes. But his first 2 reviews were really weird and he did not get it at all, yes. Probably because he tried to think to much about it or he approached it too much like a reviewer, i don't know … even his brother said, after he watched his first episode with Doug that the show is awesome and that something is wrong with Doug for not liking it instantly.
But i agree, his reviews have gotten better and the Holly Jolly Secret reaction was weird. I wonder if they keep going after season 3, since they seem to watch the show on DVD.

Doug's vlog of Marceline's Closet is out, and…
! Wow! He's already catching on to the Ice King/Marceline connection. And through pretty trivial/irrelevant stuff too (Ice King singing the french fries song and Gunter being on the cover of Marceline's journal)

Watched the Holly Jolly secrets review.
1)Yes, Doug really isw very clearly diggging the show now, compared to the first couple videos. I take it all back.
2)Everyone missed that Doug DID get the point of the episode… and just happened to be really amused by the glasses bit. Way folks here were talking about it I got a completely different impression.So. Yeah. I take back what I said earlier.
Might backtrack some now.

@RobbyBevard:

But… he himself said that he doesn't see it the way we do. He thinks the Simon thing is just a throw-away line for a joke, not to be taken seriously. We're getting a little iffy about this stuff, because Doug has problems with serious moments in the show, he always tries to take them as jokes. Yeah, it must be easy, since we're talking about a Dungeon & Dragons world with candy people, but sometimes a story is just a story, not a build-up for another laugh.
Also - awesome ge got to it so quickly, the Ice King and Marceline thing. No one else did it, so he'll really get into it once the Simon and Marcie episode airs.
Maybe I'm wrong and, looking at 'Betty', the Simon thing really is just a joke...?
-
@Aru:
But… he himself said that he doesn't see it the way we do. He thinks the Simon thing is just a throw-away line for a joke, not to be taken seriously.
He got that it was important and the backstory for the whole world in like 60 seconds… but also, perhaps rightly, thinks it won't ever come up again and that maybe it was just intended for the viewers and the leads missed the point. Which is fair. Heck, Holly Jolly Secrets and I Remember You are seperated by some 30 episodes and almost a year of air time. (Then Simon and Marcy is another 15 episodes and half a year... and then Betty was another 30 episodes later and a year again. Its a VERY slow moving meta-plot.)
Of course Finn will refer to him as Simon later, and the Marceline stuff comes into play and it DOES come back... but at the time? It was a one off explanation that might never have been touched again, as the only explanation ever given.
Maybe I'm wrong and, looking at 'Betty', the Simon thing really is just a joke…?
….how can you watch that episode and think that? Its massively setting up for an eventual solution, a long term ending to that arc.

Yeah, I didn't call him names or whatever, but I was kinda hoping he'd at least accept that sometimes very obvious things go way WAY over his head.
Suince I don't follow the comments there I didn't even know there was a backlash. Well, people sometimes love stuff a lot, so no wonder some of them got angry.

Eh. As someone who isn't sick of the song yet, I think half of the problem is "I wonder if anyone feels the same way as I do" while going on YouTube or Tumblr. You should never do that. Ever. If you haven't learned that the Internet is fully capable of ruining everything you love ever, you should really avoid the Internet to begin with.

So let me get this straight: Alice being grown up = She's not Alice? The fact that she's been to Wonderland before = She's not IN Wonderland? Yeah, that whole rant about the movie not getting even a single word of the title right... kinda bullshit. Though the movie claiming that the place was actually called "Underland" was pretty damn stupid indeed. -

Which wouldn't be bad if it were made more clear be it in the poster or in the title. Underland is pretty inexcusable though.

Honestly, I can still eat bagel bites, no questions asked. I hate all pop tarts, except for low fat brown sugar, which is a delicious omen for me. Also, Lindsay already discussed on Twitter how Velveeta cheese shells are superior to Easy Mac, and I so fucking agree. Cheese shells are awesome.

Despite it being total crap nutrition-wise, I still eat Chef Boyardee on a regular basis. BUT not all Chef Boyardee. See, I agree that regular Chef Boyardee ravioli tastes like crap, but I get the Mini Ravioli and Meatballs which, for whatever, tastes a lot better (to me anyway).
Honestly, I never really got into Pop Tarts or Fruit Gushers, and I've never had Bagel Bites. Had Fruit by the Foot every day for school lunch though (and yes, it is better than Fruit Roll up)

I think he'll have plenty of context from IK being called Simon several times, and especially "I Remember You" before it gets to "Simon and Marcy" that it's not just a one off gag and will view it appropriately.
People so over-react to his opinion on the christmas episode… particularly people that already have context of future episodes.

Yeah it's only started to gain radio momentum.
Recall that the band is British also, the Atlantic can be a straight up pop cultural membrane sometimes.
Chrissie has been in complete disbelief about some British artists I've never heard of, and vice versa. Though the vice versa is usually black people music.
