So? It's about time.
I was so disappointed when Usopp's 5ton hammer (in the Mr. 4/Ms. Merry Christmas fight) turned out to be a fake.
Oda's foreshadowing. (Spoilers)
-
-
Yeah, I've been hoping for some sort of impact (or REJECT…) hammer too .
But a fire hammer, flash hammer or a breeze hammer (or whatever dial they use in the Skypiea rocket shoes) would be cool!
If I was Ussop I'd incorporate a video recorder dial, so I could replay my bravery to my 8000 followers.
-
hmmm read till this far and surprised that this hasn't been mentioned.
Out of the many unresolved plots that Oda leaves us; this one is most interesting:http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume17.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=3261Weapon?! How powerful is it? My theory it will come to pass before the end….
EDIT: http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume17.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=3224 forgot to put this >:
-
Doesn't sound too spectacular. I just figured… a castle... needs soldiers... needs weapons for those soldiers.... they shouldn't carry them around 24/7.... so solution = weapons room. I have no idea how Wapol(sp?) ran his countries military, so as for the locked door, Iuno. But either way, doesn't sound all so great. Plus, didn't we get that door opened before that arc endded? =/
-
Then why would the Blackbreads come there? Certainly to get rid of a tryrannical ruler out the goodness of their hearts. My guess is that they came to get their hands on that weapon.
EDIT: BTW, they never open the door; thats why its a unresolved plot issue
-
well .. the DO opened the door …
behind that door were the cannons that they used to shot the pink powder at the end of the arc
... (u can see the opened door in the first panel from left to right..)http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume17.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=3273
-
oye oh…..I take back everything I said then... kudos to neko
I posted because I remembered Wapol saying scariest-weapon-in-the-world-villan-rant ;) -
=) I knew that, but didn't feel like saying anything, kekeke.
-
Not sure if this has been posted, I've been re-reading.
As soon as the strawhats reach the cloud sea, they're attacked by an octopus; Zoro cuts it and it deflates; he says, "that octopus was like a balloon."…of course, the species turns out to be a balloon after all when they try to get down.
How far in advance does this man think??? -
I have a question.
Remember in Big Horn Village on Drum Island, when Usopp tells Zoro "You do a very good job…following my orders!"
Does that mean at some point Zoro and the others will be forced to follow Usopp/Sogeking's orders? -
I do not know. What an interesting question.
EDIT: Do I win "The Most Pointless Post Ever" award now?

Does that mean at some point Zoro and the others will be forced to follow Usopp/Sogeking's orders?Well…if they would be in a naval battle, using the ships cannons, they would have to. Luffy, being the captain, might be the one to say "shoot this or that" (although it's most likely that Nami, Robin or Usopp decide the targets, being smarter and all...), but Usopp is the one who always knows how to position the cannon in order to hit the target. (and if they use several cannons at ones, I guess that Zoro, Sanji, Chopper and Luffy move the cannons, while Usopp tells them how to do it)

This is more speculation, but back on Little Garden, when Vivi was talking about how since each island is significantly different because of the difficulty of traveling between islands, she mentions some islands have significantly more advanced societies while others (like LG) have prehistoric environments.
Is this foreshadowing that some time in the future we might see one of these "significantly more advanced" civilizations? -
I think W7 is quite advanced if you compare to many other islands. But, I agree with you still, we might see one island even more advanced. That would be pretty awsome. :)
-
Oda's foreshadowing is usually more specific than that. Vivi's comment was very open ended, but while it does not point to anything in particular, it leaves the door open for Oda to create pretty much any type of island that he chooses, which is why I think he had Vivi make that comment.
-
I think that was just meant to explain why Little Garden was…well, the way it is.
-
Awesome sig!!
I think Skypiea is as advanced as it gets. Any more advanced and it wouldn't be pirates anymore. It would be like DBZ. -
Not sure if this had been mentioned, but way…back when Luffy and Sanji were going to Arlong Park, I found it interesting that we got another of "Luffy's drawings" foreshadowing. In particular, the fact that he draws Nami as a "fishwoman" shows the foreshadowing, particularly for the end of the chapter, of Nami being a member of Arlong's crew. And then, earlier, he draws a weird "octopus-like" man...of course, we meet Hat-chan not too long later.

The World Goverment basically runs the entire One Piece planet, hence "World". If there were any more advanced civilizations, their technology would already be making appearanes in the form of weaponry, defences and more importantly everyday items and social technologies (buildings etc.) within the manga since the World Goverment would have access to them to.
Hence, I'd be inclined to say, no.
And if there was a lone island or two holding out on the World Goverment and keeping its technologies to itself, I'm pretty sure mention of it would have been made well before now as an important part of the One Piece world.

I see where you're coming from with what you said about the world government running the planet, but they obviously don't have influence over the deepest parts of the Grand Line, since no one has made it to Raftel besides Roger.
Also i don't know how much we would have heard by now if such an island existed. You can consider Water 7 and Puffing Tom. Puffing Tom is a significant invention, but it seems like hardly anyone knew about it outside the people on the islands it actually connects. Nami nor Robin, who both seem to be relatively knowledgable people, looked like they were aware of such technology. The World Government is clearly aware of the technology, but they haven't made an active effort to let the rest of the world know. Something similar might be true about an "advanced" civilization, if they weren't willing to share technologies. Now, I don't necessarily think such an island will appear, but I think it would be cool if one did.
-
Actually there was a civilisation that has been mentioned that had far more advanced technology AND was wiped out because of it by a coalition of countries that were jealous or scared of this country, and eventually covered up this fact and became the World Government of today.
Plus why would the current World Government want to find blueprints for a weapon that they themselves could build if they were now more advanced than this civilisation was 900 or so years ago? That's because they are still inferior to this extinct country even though they have had plenty of time to grow since it was destroyed.
-
Remember what happens to those that research ?
Ohara and Buster Call, remember they were researching Poneglyphs to give the World the hidden answers they got attacked by order of the W.G.
Control the technology control the people

I'm pretty sure it was Vivi who said, that the farther you would go in the Grand Line, the WG's influence weakens. Maybe it was Robin, but I'm pretty sure it was Vivi.

That would be an interesting assertion as to why the WG are the main enemy now instead of later. If the government isn't as powerful past the Red Line and the second half of the GL, then they really wouldn't have the influence to crack down on either the SHs or the most powerful pirates (like Whitebeard) out there. But by no means would I say they would completely evaporate later on: I would assume there are certain Marines out there now or could be (like if Smoker continues to persue them) if the SHs are considered that much a threat post-Eneas Lobby.
-
Perhaps it is only the Shichibukai who are allowed to continue.
Maybe the rumours are true and Marijoea is where the Grand Line intersects the Red Line -
Yeah its the rest of the Shichibukai that probably protect the grandline on the other side of the Red Line, or at least the part of it they can actually travel through if it gets really bad past a certain point.
-
Why would the government lose power? It's just a buster call and some vice admirals, the WG has unlimited ships and still has the Admirals and Shichibukai as well as plenty of captains to promote to vice admirals, status quo remains.
I also don't understand why people would think Luffy would command 8000 men, Luffy has no intention of commanding a large crew, it's Ussop's lie, thus they would fight under Ussop, not Luffy.
Lastly, as one sided as you guys seem to view the WG, it's actually the only thing keeping pirates from attacking every single village in the sea.. While yes there is corruption, without it too many people would die. The SH's would be seen as the worst possible criminals if they ever did something like that to the WG, eventually after Luffy has enough power to become Pirate King and end the age of piracy, thus restoring peace and safety by ordering pirates to stop, yes he could very easily overthrow the government without a problem, but until then, without the WG it's just a bunch of farmers with pichforks, a few guns and swords that defend their villages.
-

No one ever said they had advanced technology. All we know is that they had a method of stone carving people don't currently posess. Ever hear of the Greek Fire? It was an incredibly powerful incendiary weapon employed by the ancient greeks….and no one knows what it was or how it worked. Does that mean it could stand up to a DC10? Or a guy with a medium-quality bazooka? No. We don't know how greek fire worked, but that doesn't make it's technology more advanced than ours.
-
You're refering to "Ygro Pyr" Liquid Fire used to burn enemy ships. Scientists have found ways of making liquid fire but it's speculation if it's actually the same kind. Basically if you threw water on it, it did not go out, and it basically burned until there was nothing left to burn. There's various chemicals that could have done this, there's even a certain chemical that lights water on fire that I learned about on Bill Nye the science guy, however it's name escapes me.
-

They don't have infinite resources. At some point, you have to promote Nezumi to fill a vacancy. Enough said.
Lastly, as one sided as you guys seem to view the WG, it's actually the only thing keeping pirates from attacking every single village in the sea..
I was under the impression the difficulty of the seas was a major restraint for ALL parties, WG and pirate, as you headed deeper into the Grand Line. Perhaps there are groups deeper in the GL that have adaptations (steamships could probably pass, perhaps a gyojin crew, a diver team…)
The issue is just how corrupt and threatening is the WG, and how well they do their job.
Have the Marine ever been shown SINGLEHANDEDLY taking down a big player? Gol D. Roger is an exception; many theorise he may have handed himself over.
It seems they spend a lot of time delegating (slap 30 million on someone and make it another's problem) and making peace with their big enemies (Shicabuchai).
Are they doing anything more than the metaphoric rent-a-cop, who you'd trust to stop a minor criminal but who'd buckle in front of a mass murderer?
-

If that was all they had then why did a group of neighbourings countries decide to join forces to combat a single country when normaly a country would fight One on One or Two on One instead. Unless of course they were a major threat because of something they had developed which they feared was more advanced than anything in the world at the time and had to be destroyed before it was used against them.
-
Or because they practiced incest and ordered up child sacrifices to their gods. That's a good reason to invade, right? Or maybe they had some oil :>
-

Well, we've seen Aokiji nearly killing the entire Mugiwara crew without breaking a sweat, and it's not like we saw Shichibukai singlehandedly taking down a big player either. I'm sure the likes or Akainu and Kizaru are currently busy chasing big fishes like members of the Whitebeard crew.
-
I see it as they are close to the Red Line now, they're going to be dealing with more government officials and marines than pirates. The big fishes of these three are all already on the second half of the Grand Line. Hence why they never really ran into alot of officers during the first half. But as they start heading towards the very last parts of the Grand Line, I'm pretty sure other strong pirates will be their biggest problem once they get there. The World Government may have strong, but they're smart enough not to spread themselves to thin.
-

Well yes. They developed the ancient weapons. However you'll note that the technology is not so advanced that Franky and Iceburg can't look at the blueprint for Pluron for two seconds and see immediately how it could be built.
I actually find something about that scene really interesting: Tome implies the workers built it without being happy about it, because they saw the need to keep a way to stop it around. Is it possible the ancient kingdom wasn't the victim in that situation back in the past?
-

My point was in response to the people who say "if the WG collapses, pirates will run rampant." We have very little evidence that the WG presence has done any good for keeping piracy in check.
Ao Kiji could have taken three pirates, combined bounty over 200 million, out of circulation on a whim. And he doesn't. He's not doing his job for some reason. We might find his reason noble later on, but it's still a sign the WG is not doing its job.
-
I agree with that, I think the WG has spend more resourses making people think that they are taking care of pirates, than actually taking care of them.
That would built a hell load of cash for them if they had a super evil plan in the backpocket, haha. :D
But, now, Luffy and his followers are gonna wreck that. ;) -
Acutally, the WG is doing something VERY well: Keeping people in the dark about the true history. That, I think, is their main purpose. I think people, ordinary citizens, would be a lot less willing to go along with the WG if they knew what has actually happened, whatever it is.
-
@IT'S:
What else is there besides navigator, swordsman, shipwright, sharpshooter, cook, historian, musician, and doctor?
could be a maid? :P they need more girls in the crew.
-
Well frnakly, uou can never have too many ass kickers. How a bout a logkeeper though? Or a lookout for the crows nest? (Robin does not seem very good at this.)
-
Or maybe a helmsman.
-
Seeing how an archeologist is kind of out of place on a pirate ship, it could be any random job like some kind of scientist, or politician even.
-

Well…the captain kinda is the crews politician, I guess...Luffy declaring war, that's politics, isn't it?^^
-
did anybody mention how Nami needed 100 million berri could have been foreshadowing Luffy's future bounty?
-
I'm sure that Oda will make Ussopp(or Sogeking) the comander of 8000 men army for one of the final battles,
-
Or here at Enies Lobby! Is it a coincidence that there are 8000 marines left on the island?
-
The plot thickens, hahaha.
-
Ow, that's very right unchipu! :O It would be cool it Usopp lead an attack against BC with marines and WG soldiers. :D
-
Sogeking's Insurrection Against the Navy!! Sweet.
-
I just started re-reading Water 7, and when the SHs asked Iceburg how does he know Kokoro, he said that she is his drinking partner.
Iceburg is a man who has everything, why did he try to drink sorrow away? Franky.
..
not foreshadowing, right? XD
