Well, the chapter looked delicious enough to inspire me to cook. I hope that they don't build up the harem aspect too much. Perfectly ok with the erotic aspect though.

thx for the spoiler!
Someone knows what "にへにへ" means here?
If I would have to guess it's maybe something like "ニコニコ", smiling/smirking. -
Eh, it's a type of smiling, but like when you're so happy you're smiling like an idiot uncontrollably.
niko niko = just normal smiling, happy
hera hera = non-sincere smiling
nihera = sorta like above, but not because of being a prick, but because you're too happy and looking like a fool.Sorta like you know, how Sasha reacts when she's thinking about food.
Oh and that pic is cute overload!
-
Very happy the mystery man (9th seat) met my expectations, and made an offer to Souma. If someone obsessed with results didn't go that route and simply tried to crush him immediately to stroke his own ego* it would have been poor writing. The end result is the same but it's all in the execution.

Chapter's out. Lol at the pingpong match -
I like how megumi isn't the meek girl without confidence anymore, that she's a ping pong genius is also pretty funny. Also she's confident when she has a reason to be.
There have been so many crappy spins on the meek character without confidence, where the character stays practically a wuss during the whole series.
Talk about multi-dimensional characters!
Great chapter, it also needs to be said that I enjoy the chemistry and interaction of the polar dome people almost as much as quabbles between the strawhats. Which is pretty weird given that none of them really received much screentime in the grand scheme of things. -

--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Souma should've told Mr. 9th to prove his willingness to hire Souma... and avoid the conflict, but shrug shounen without conflict is slice-of-life

tosh could totally pen a sports manga.

tosh already has more than enough experience of drawing people engaged in hot physical action.

Shokugeki no Soma is a cooking manga.
I started to have Ping Pong Club flashbacks…Although I think they actually had only one good player on their team lol.
I really like that the characters are getting fleshed out and seem like people and less of a particular trait.
-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I saw the thread title and I was like, "huh?"
I started reading the chapter, and I thought I started to get it. And then that wonderful infobox popped up and … "Shokugeki no Soma is a Cooking Manga." I laughed so hard. Still chuckling. Oh my~
And what a lovely chapter it was. Liking Megumi the ping pong genius ... also her earning that A at the beginning. It's both a nod to her not being totally one dimensional and a nice continuation of the growth we had in the last arc. Awesome stuff.
Hilarity aside, this Alquimista being 9th seat after all cements the idea Soma will beat him directly in this coming arc. Other than Megumi, the other Polar Star people didn't really get any attention in the previous arc, so hopefully we'll get to see their own abilities and characters come through in this arc. I was thinking that would be more likely with two of them sitting out, but it looks like said two might be in anyway.
In any case, this next arc ought to be fun and tasty.
After all, Shokugeki no Soma is a cooking manga.
-
I love the way tosh reminded us his origins in that panel of the girl's (can't remember her name) sweating breast while they play ping pong… just can't leave his roots behind :P
Btw... i noticed that
! Shokugeki no Soma is a cooking manga
I wonder if it'll become relevant again?

! Souma's Dad is Back!!
Also! Shokugeki no Soma is a cooking manga.
-
! Good lord am I excited after this chapter where to begin?
For some weird reason I'm super curious about Marui, that guy got chosen directly without contest like Yuuki and Ryouko, despite of how he has been represented so far. Would be funny if he's pretty bad ass but just lacks the stamina.
! Alice and her aide are growing on me quickly, her random pouts about nothing are quite amusing.
Seems we're getting more into some of the side characters that have been left out until now, interestingly we've been introduced to new ones as well that haven't even showed up during the speech of Erina's grandfather (like Takumi and Isami did).
! They all made an interesting first impression, too!(Cinnamon guy looks like he may be related to Nikumi? But well it's just looks.)
Soma's dad returning didn't excite me as much as it probably will do most people.
For now I just want to see the polar dome people square off and show their skills. -
Hinako still manages to be the best character in the series even when she doesn't appear.
-
interesting that they didn't share any of the known character's blocks except Tadakoro. They also didn't share any a block competitors. Am I the only one who gets the feeling Soma and most of the other known characters will be in A block?
-
! Yay Souma's dad!
-
This chapter is great. New characters were really needed to spice up the school.
-
didn't expect Souma's dad would be back at the scene so quickly….i still don't expect him to meet with Erina this time around at least....
-
That's right, Megumi, keep on collecting girls interested in you.
Really, this chapter overall….
It was delicious. -
I'm so excited to see Erina discovering that Souma is Jouichirou'a son.
-
Uh … so ... we have a rapey girl with killer calves and a really creepy sadist stalker girl joining the fray.
Plus Erina's secretary becomes a person! And sexy cinammon sniffing guy.
Plus most of Polar Star have yet to actually be showcased. This arc could go a little pear-shaped :/
Anyway:
Erina's secretary vs Sadist Stalker
Takumi vs Soma or Takumi vs Alice
Alice vs Soma
Some matchup predictions.
Soma's dad showing up all of a sudden was a twist though! Wonder how long he'll be hanging around . . .
-
interesting that they didn't share any of the known character's blocks except Tadakoro. They also didn't share any a block competitors. Am I the only one who gets the feeling Soma and most of the other known characters will be in A block?
(So I hope I understand it right, all block A people are in competition with each other for ranks the same goes for block B?)
Kind of, I think Soma is in block A since he got that whole arc with Megumi(since she's in block B), time to be friendly with/go against other characters. I think Nikumi might be in B block for the same reason.
I think Takumi might be in block A for an early rematch. I think Alice is in Block B since with her whole speech this chapter it kind of seems like their fight will be just a little bit off.
I'm undecided on most polar bear members(yuuki, ryouko, marui and ibusaki).I think there is a good chance for a good chunk of the other (newly) introduced side characters to be in block A(Erina's aide, Alice's aide, cinnamon dude, stalker girl). Hojou seems like she's in block B with coming onto megumi.
But dunno maybe other people want to share their wild guesses.
-
Yeah the rapey girl with killer calves is bound to be with Megumi.
Sadist Stalker and Erina's secretary are probably in the same block? With maybe Nikumi?
But all of these are definitely wild guesses. I mean we have loads to go off to guess about matchups in the tournament proper, but the blocks is harder, since probably pretty much every named character will get through except maybe some of the Polar Star people >_>

Chapter 41
http://www.mangapanda.com/shokugeki-no-soma/41/2
A whole new world…. -
Jouchiro really looked like super villain in those panels…
for once, i can identify with a ingredient...garam masala...standard addition in meat in my land...
-
So Soma's dad is similar to Ryoma's dad - world famous pro [insert occupation] who mysteriously leaves the world circuit. Its also interesting how he never graduated from highschool. Also I guess Yukihara is Soma's mom's last name and his dad married into the family?
-

Yep, if you go back to chapter 34(the fate of tootsuki) it was already showing that Saiba(spelled Saiha there translator guessed wrong back then) was his old name.
–---------------------------------------------
Haha, again super fun chapter.
Yuuki and Megumi fawning/getting flustered about Souma's future prospects.
That picture where Fumio sends them out looks like they're assassins, ignoring the difference in drawing style those two seem like they would fit into class E.Soma's relationship with his father is also somewhat weird. It's insane how little he knows about his dad. But I guess since he's been kept busy in the kitchen since he was a kid there was never time to reflect and ask?
Soma's dad never graduating is also pretty interesting seeing how high regarded he his. What I wonder is, was he expelled(like he took the blame for something or did something)? Did he leave the school to chase something bigger(Like Soma's mom)?
Fun stuff, I actually didn't expect for them to duke it out again but actually it should have been somewhat obvious.
When the manga was just beginning a lot of people(including me) were talking about how this might quickly turn into Soma acquiring a harem quickly through his shokugeki encounters with girls(or something along those lines).
It's funny how that didn't quite turn out that way. Kurase and Nikumi(people probably could argue for megumi but before this turns into a shipping war I'll just say I only get a respect and admiration vibe from her for now) are probably right now the only ones.
And the harem vibe in general feels pretty subdued. -
That was interesting, I guess. Not the greatest chapter. They really need to re-establish these Polar Star characters sometime soon because they're so indistinct.
Joichiro … didn't graduate. Something interesting there. Seems he transformed from a pretty nasty presence to something nicer, going by Fumio's comment. And that link in to his comment about a woman to cook for or w/e that he made to Soma much earlier.
Oh, and Soma's night-time contemplation ... that was great. I really got the impression he was really put out realising there were all these huge things about his dad he didn't know before and so many more he still doesn't.
-
DAMN!! what a chapter..
-
I'm loving the sudden shifts in Artstyle. One moment it's all smooth and the next it's got a much darker, serious look to it all. Love this manga
