Personally, I'm still all for threeway matches to break the ties. This feels like an unfair system, but it's what we have decided to use this time around so we're sticking to it. I am incredibly proud of everyone in this thread. My apologies to the Luffy fans, but you put up a good fight. Thank you for that. :)

I'd LOVE threeway matches, I already thought about it when the Law-Fujitora-Doflamingo thing started in the manga. :wub:

Anyway I have to congratulate with Jinbe campaigners, they were great, I'm not as skilled as them with photo editing but I tried my best and Luffy supporters gave all in too. This match was really exciting (I felt a rush of hype in the end, I was in too much XD), but I really loved this post, that image was perfect and gived everything a sense of peace I can't describe.

Ties also caused a LOT of problems with pre-planned special event matches last year. Do not want repeats of that.

I think the thread creator holding their vote is a pretty good way of doing it, since they obviously could have voted at any point in the match and everyone knows up front their vote is being held specifically to break ties. Better than constantly having Urogue or Ubiq arbitrarily hold their votes.

No you wouldn't. It sounds like fun, but we've had them several times in the past (check the archives) and they ALWAYS lead to a landslide for one character, they're never even close. We've tried single vote and multivote, it doesn't matter, it always tips in the favor of of the guy who is not like the other two (for instance, two heroes and a villain, it'll go for the villain) in a complete blowout by like a hundred votes. Three way matches suck.

Who knows, maybe we'll reintroduce them again next year. It's always open to discussion, and I feel like if the community wants us to do a specific thing we won't close our ears to good arguments.

And don't you dare feel down about not being able to edit images as well as few of the most experienced campaigners around here. You were absolutely fantastic! I honestly feel a bit bad about breaking the tie for Jinbe, even though I still wanted to do that and felt like it was the right thing. Massive kudos to you for posting as much and as enthusiastically as you did, it was amazing to watch! Keep campaigning, and definitely keep editing more and more pictures. You'll only keep getting better at it. :)

Back in -09 and -10 we used to have ties lead to three-way matches where both of the tied contestants would move on and face a third character on the next round, with only the winner of that match moving on. I think that is the most natural and the fairest way of dealing with ties since it does not involve a mod who will always have a personal bias making the decision as to who wins.

We just decided to get rid of that at least for now since many people found it unfair as the three-way matches always had two similar characters suffering from their similarity, leading to the third guy getting an easy win.

Ahhh, I see. I didn;t know about this because … you know ... wasn't here haha.

But yeah I can see the problem with that. I don't see how the current system is particularly unfair though.

Exactly. This is why the current tie-breaking method is the fairest and best…

I really prefer the system how it is now btw. Especially if the tie breaker chooses by the amount of campaigns.

First things first, thanks to the Luffy camp. I couldn't admit it during the match, but some of your campaigns were hilarious. Really enjoyable match, no matter the outcome. I honestly didn't expect any support for Luffy because he is already such a lovable powerhouse, glad I was wrong.

As for those who campaigned for Jinbe like mad? Yeah, no words. That's something which needs to be repaid in ~~blood~~ votes and campaigns.

Edit: Glad you liked the picture, reminds me that I need to update it again.

I laughed really hard at Jinbe dancing in a white dress, hope you understand which gif I mean.

Law and Luffy have lost and I have to look forward. Between Smiley and Fisher Tiger there isn't one of my favourites even if I really liked Tiger's character, then there is a Mugiwaras match and I just can't choose one of them to vote for. I'll try campaigning for Monet even if it will be another hard match (everyone knows how much Hattori is loved).

Honestly, I think even more than the great Jinbe campaigns, the main factor leading to Luffy's loss was probably that he's already won a character tournament so a lot of people feel like he doesn't need to win again. And since his opponent is also fairly widely liked and fairly popular, it's not surprising that people would give Jinbe the chance rather than want Luffy to win again

Yep, we had tag teams in round 3 of last year's tournament. Nami and Rayleigh, Law and Whitebeard, Robin and Usopp…..and others. It was a blast.

Cool. Maybe another time, the whole tournament should be full of teams. 64 people will be voted in and then, they will be split into 32 teams randomly. Then, those 32 teams face off. How does that sound?

When last year I heard of tag teams I didn't like it, but then they revealed funny for the new ideas they carryed in. I'd prefer to not see it this year, I'm sure the staff has some great ideas we'll se later in the tournament.

I'm with Enzeru; the idea is fun, but it complicates support for certain characters, namely if they're on opposite teams. Or just look when two juggernauts join up (Lawbeard).

But like the Doflamingo Invitationals, it's an interesting concept that jazzes up the tournament.

Personally, I'd have all of the previous Champions face off in a special prelim, so that only one of them would move on to the proper tournament (or just exclude them altogether). This way, we could avoid all of those "X character already won once, don't vote for him/her!" posts and not have hopefuls knocked out of the running prematurely…

I doubt that Luffy suffered all that much from the past winner syndrome. It's been years since he won the tournament (unlike Bon) and he is an exception in general since he is also the main character with epic moments every few chapters. There were a lot of "I just can't vote against Luffy" comments in the thread (and I can definitely see why).

I think the real "past winner penalty" is that people rarely campaign for them. At least they rarely bother to create something new, which might remind people that the character had his/her time in the sun. And again, this wasn't the case for Luffy thanks to Iori, NateRich etc.

And I think it's also a case where people willing to vote for Luffy despite winning were more vocal in the thread than people who weren't willing because of that, since I saw a bunch of comments along those lines in this thread when people were posting who they planned to vote for

Oh, don't get me wrong, obviously he suffered from it. But clearly not on a Bon level (a past winner who lost by over 40 votes).

It's only right that the road to winning twice should be pretty tough. He didn't have many campaigns so I decided to help him stave off another early elimination.
