Apologized is probably Arab-Berber being as he's from Morocco…

There's some Greeks still living in Syria and Lebanon I think, and Georgia and the Ukraine. Those folks got around! So you never quite know!
But as it is, Middle-Eastern Greeks = Cyprus pretty much only I guess.

Couscous is awesome. I like the kind that has a bit of a cheesy flavor. It's like rice except ten times better.
Silly Yankee, nothing is better than a good rice.

I know I know :D
It's been a bazillion years since they were around there. Like Roman times lol.

yeah it's good but try to eat something new
A quick googling revealed that the crazy contraption i saw at IKEA last week was in fact a tajin pot
The food seems fun enough. Like a nice moist stew
from where you got it ?
In the US you can get anything lol. Now of course, I'm not saying we get authentic versions XD, but we can find like cheap supermarket forms of lots of stuff. My moms cooked couscous though, it's nice.
As for authentic stuff. New Haven (city near me) has lots of cool ethnic restauraunts. I know there was a Moroccan place there… I should go sometime :)

If I'm going to have a complimentary starch on the plate though, both rice and couscouse can go die. Because it's mashed potato time.

If it's family food you want, my grandmother cooks the sickest fucking meatballs. She's Irish, learned it from her Italian husband's mother. They're a family treasure!

Mashed potatoes are great, but it's most definitely not an all-round universal.
Also by rice I mean fine-grain asian style rice, of course.
I cannot comprehend why anyone prefers those nasty, dry, western style long-rice.
I can't really stand those Indian rice though. With the weird oily flavoring.
I know people from central Asia prefer those, but I guess it's just not my thing.

Right, of course. It's pretty normal to put tomato sauce on pasta, you know.
As an aside, I feel like my last post in this thread was the equivalent of pulling a block out from a Jenga tower and watching it collapse.
Pasta !!!! can't make me filled
Ah nah nah, you need to get fed by proper Italian hands son.
Sit yourself down in the dining room of an older Italian lady, and she will absolutely not let you leave until she's fed you full!
@Monkey:

Anytime i cook something vaguely italian i can just hear someones italian ancestors screaming nooo it's not authentico italiano, noo don't use local cheese it must be made with the parmesan
It makes me smile deep in my soul

Look you can play around with ingredients that's fine!!!
But not ketchup!!!
Whenever someone says you can't use that my first impulse is pretty much to just go oh yeah let's see about that
Making due (and making magic) with what you got is the absolutely best part of cooking.
you guys make me remember potato girl.. :p

I agree!

The order goes
Potato
Pasta
Rice
Pasta is first for me. Even the poor imitations
IT's a bit funny, I grew up in NE Texas where Tex-Mex (from cheap imitation Taco Bell to the true authentic) is veeeeerrrrryyyy popular. But I can't stand it - too spicy. The spicy I like is Italian …pity what I get access to is the imitation, but its better than nothing!
Potato is high for me and I'm not afraid to say so...though one thing I do NOT like is mashed potatoes, (personal experience with uncle's too spicy dish traumatized me forever) but from Au Gratin to baked to diced with butter sauce to hash browns ... its a staple that ranks high up with pasta.

Italian food? Spicy?
@Monkey:

I´m confused too its like saying that Paella is Fast food:blink:
@Monkey:

I'm honestly a little thrown off by considering Tex-Mex spicy, myself, although I'll admit that at least has more of a basis than Italian.
I know one can't find good Italian in places like Texas and Wisconsin, but what are they serving you Kazztar??
FOOD!
I love pasta. Love love looove. Too bad the pasta we tried in Rome was too different from our preferences… It was always cooked perfetly, probably just a taste thing. Biggest mismatch was the carbonara, which was sad cause that's my favourite pasta dish.

I like this post. This is a good post.~
牛タン imho
@Monkey:

Garlic, onion, turmeric, oregano …. some describe those as spices (others would put garlic & onion as condiments but they do come in powered spices) lol they just aren't as strong as the various peppers used in authentic Mexican or Tex-mex food so many americans don't think of them as spicy. I'm allergic to the spice pepper so those are spicy enough for me
Oh and the few times I've had authentic Italian it certainly had a kick to it, just different than the far too spicy Mexican food
look for some Couscous Or Tajin … i'm sure you would love it
Tajin, or Cyprus' Tavvas, is hella delicious and easy to make. I'd make it for Zephos' family if I wasn't a shy little thing xD; Maybe this time around I'll be more brave and make some Cyprus goodies for them. I wish I could take Vine Leaves with me to make'em stuffed :U Oh well. Guess will have to make them stuffed veggies instead xD Also I may make for them mahalepi IF I find rosewater… It's so refreshing in Summer drools
Anybody got any drink preferences?
Italian when it comes to wine.
Polish when it comes to beer.
And swedish when it comes to vodka.
Haven't really gotteb into whiskey yet
@wolfwoof:

Sure. Lemme see… Belgian beer and USA wine are given. I love those trappist beer and the zinfandel grape rules supreme! Otherwise I dunno... Scottish whiskey I guess, but Japanese aren't to shabby either. Oh, and Swedish snaps! (Mostly 'cause I haven't tried it from any other country, but whatever!) :)

I'm just going to make sure, but are you suggesting using Spice (a very broad general term) makes food Spicy?
Snaps is an international thing right?
What about mead? Anyone up for some sweet sweet honey wine
Snaps is just you know, any ~40%+ drink I guess…? I know I've heard the term schnapps in USA media though. :) Haha.
I was mostly thinking of... Hm, akvavit I guess. Flavored brännvin? Spiced brännvin? (Kryddat brännvin.) "Beska droppar" foooor eeeeeveeer!!

I've been really into craft beers lately. There's a pretty good brewery called Great Lakes in Ohio, and even though I live pretty far from Cleveland, we get most of their beer. They have a lot of good stuff so it's been a fun journey trying as much as I can.
Other than that I'm a whiskey and red wine type of guy.

You guys can fuck right off. Gimme a plate of mutton biryani made of Dehradun basmati rice and I can go to town on it all day, every day.
Don't be like that. You guys still got curries
Everyone likes those
Eeeh, I prefer brown rice myself. Much more tastiness and chewiness! :)
I don't think I've actually ever even tried proper Asian rice. Probably should at some point, I looooove rice but the dry starchy Western varieties often leave me wanting for something better.
Also, basmati sucks. Screw that.
I never even realized there were better types of rice.
yeah I like milk especially chocolate milk and when milk is in cereal
My roommate and I found this organic store in our area. They sell fully natural organic milk in glass bottles that you can return and they give you 2-3 bucks for it. I'm a be nervous about having organic milk cause I've had the stuff from grocery stores for decades. I hope my stomach doesn't try to kill me for attempting to be healthier.
I think i'm allergic to the word organic
Love homegrown stuff but anything that's labeled organic tends to be overpriced and shoddy
I don't even remenber the last time i drink milk with chocolate.
I like a natural.
