shrugs I saw this a week or so ago….guess I can post my thoughts?

Overall…..eh.
Let's start with the positives.
I thought Cavill and Shannon did a great portraying Superman and Zod, respectfully. (disappointed the latter didn't utter his iconic line, but….) I'll admit to liking Russell Crowe as Jor-el, although the actor is far from my favorite. Score was great, action was solid.....
Now the negatives.
-The whole….order of events in the movie. I thought the movie would show Clark growing up as kid, then slowly advancing to his development as an adult, into a hero. I thought him flashing back at different points didn't fit and disjointed the flow of the story as a whole. Maybe I was expecting the wrong thing? It's like not I've never seen this format before...
-Pa Kent's death. Because the movie had mostly Clark as an adult/hero, I felt like there wasn't enough time to really show how important his parents were to him growing up. I felt his death scene/sacrifice was a tad...contrived? If it helps, I had no problem with his actor.
-Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Satsuki nails it perfectly. I simply didn't think the actor meshed well with the character. And much like my reasoning for not loving Pa Kent's death.....I felt there wasn't enough establishing her "relationship" with Superman. And jesus, Lois must be a magical reporter, if she gets to tag along with the military during the invasion of the Kryptonians. (I laughed, LAUGHED when she evaded the guards by taking the stairs!)
-Then we get to the burning issue of the thread…..the final battle, with all those causalities. I couldn't find myself to be so angry about this, mainly because this was a movie where Superman was just getting started as a hero, and thus the control of his powers was less refined. (Zod's goons and the military did their fair share of damage, too!) But I DID think Superman should've been more careful either way.
Lastly, Zod's death. It didn't bother me as much as I thought.....but I don't know, the contrivance bell was ringing in my ears. Just to save ONE family? Perhaps the whole theme of it being the last resort and Supes's desperation would've been more natural if more was at stake in the scene. Not just "hey Superman and Zod are fighting…..oop, here's a spare family, time to end things!"
(also I wasn't a fan of how unsubtle the "Superman is god" theme was. I mean.....talking to a priest in a church, where an image of Jesus being crucified is on the stained glass? Really, director?)
But what I did liked, I liked a lot. Was it better than Superman Returns? Yes. Perhaps the sequel will be a lot better.
and next time, I'll avoid the thread to get a fresher perspective.[/hide]
