Finally saw Iron Man 3 recently. I loved it, but that ending is so random seriously. why. WHY. I don't mean Tony driving off with Dummy cuz that was really touching. I mean the whole… 'clean slate' thing. it felt so left field that for a moment I couldn't believe it was real.

Yeah that was honestly a bit stupid… if only because we all know that this is not the last we'll see of Iron Man (even if they hadn't put "Tony Stark will return" at the end of the credits I still would not have believed that this would be the last we'd see of Iron Man), so why even bother pretending like it is? I mean, come the next disaster he's totally just going to build a new suit and join the fight anyway.

Kind of surprised this hasn't been brought up yet, but personally, I'm glad he's staying on.
With that deal I'd be okay if there was no Iron Man 4, and this deal will mean that they can't recast an actor until after the third Avengers movie. There may be more to do with Stark, but I don't want it to be like it seemed they tried to do with Spider-Man 4, just keep it going despite Peter's imminent story and problems being somewhat over.
If they can't come up with a story arc that fill en entire movie, then smaller ones can be used for the Avengers movies, and at the very least we'll still get to see him.

! Yeah, I didn't like the ending either. I liked the general concept of plot they were going for… but I don't really agree with Tony deciding to no longer be Iron Man. Also, hated Pepper getting powers and becoming the hero in the end. It seemed really.. anticlimatic after everything before. I enjoy female heroes, and adding more to marvel's movieverse isn't a bad idea, but the way they went about it felt... lackluster.

Yay. Love RDJ as Iron Man. In fact, just love him period. He always brings great characters alive in the movies I've seen him in.
The entire point was that, for all the maturing Tony did in the first film, swearing he wouldn't make weapons any more… that's what he was still doing. the second movie made a huge deal about him creating weapons that would get out of control and had a government hearing over it where he swore up and down "these weapons won't ever be a problem because it's only me using them..." though of course he got drunk, and Rhodey (and thus the government got a suit) and another villain got access to his tech and made a small army... , and in the third film he built a personal army that ended up only being on even ground with different threat entirely... and this was after the alien invasion in Avengers..
Despite what he's doing though, there's still other companies and individuals stealing his tech, mad scientist creating monsters, asguardian gods, and aliens also attacking. Tony being his old self, being reliant on the armors... is just escapism, not dealing with things that his genius could be better suited for. (And he spent most of the third movie OUT of the armor.) Even making all that stuff, he still couldn't protect his home, had trouble saving the airline passengers, still couldn't beat the badguy, still couldn't save Pepper, and in general, the months he'd spent making 40 different suits... while allowing him to survive that fight, did him no good while other guys made even more powerful weapons without him, or because of him. For all his cleverness, all his preperation, all his promises and wit, the woman he loved still died because of his mistakes. (That Pepper survived thanks to the Extremis wasn't due to him at all, and he had no way of knowing at the time that would happen.)
In Avengers, Cap asked Tony what he was without the suit, and Tony gave a glib reply about "billionaire genuis philanthropist playboy"... but it still didn't answer the question... is he a hero without the suit? (And then he nearly sacrificed himself after, so the answer is "yes".)
He's moved on now, partly because its what Pepper wants him to do, partly because even having like 40 suits at his disposal didn't help out much against other threats. Thats him hiding from his problems, his responsibilities, his life. Now, he can be bigger and better, and move onto new things. Back to focusing on what's important in his life. Greater works, Pepper, making the world a better place, not just making bigger and better guns... Tony can focus on super soldier serum, or cures for cancer, or helping out starving countries... being a better man... rather than just a guy that makes personal guns... which is what he was 10 years ago, what he swore he was trying to get away from... but wasn't.
But of course he's gonna have at least a suit in Avengers 2.
(also, it's implied that at the end of the film, Pepper's extremis powers were removed... while Tony had them added to himself to help fix his heart problem.)

Also. Tony built all those suits during his time of anxiety and worry, he did it to keep his mind occupied and away from it.
I saw him destroying the suits as a fresh start; free from his anxiety and worry, which we saw him very clearly break during the movie, where he can build BETTER suits with BETTER concentration than when he was an anxious mess.

I did a run through in my head of who he could be. Most people are thinking something in Galaxy Guardians, but I would've guessed Drax and he's already been cast. I think they may be talking to him for another movie. Someone that popped up in my mind for who Vin Diesel could play would be the Absorbing Man.

Both Black Panther AND Cap are awesome. For different reasons. Cap is a little campy, but the ideals are great. he's got all the same noble qualities going on that Superman does, and that's great. While a lot of people have problems with a nice guy/boy scout type… that's a great hero. Not dull and stupid.
And Panther? He was an intelligent, successful, full of dignity, powerful black guy! In the 60's! Yes, he's been treated badly in the Marvel U the last several years but... pretty much all the characters have been.

Both Cap and Panther are trash because they are the result of fanboy writers. Cap will always be right and just because he works for the AMERICAN government!!!! (even though that government is corrupt as hell) Panther's nation is so awesome!!! (even though they hide the cure for cancer from the rest of the world) Cap is such a kind-hearted person!!! (even though he condones torture and has been at the centre of every hero vs. hero event since the '60s) Panther even got to tap that hot piece of ass Storm!!! Wonder Woman is a horrible hero with a horrible cast of villains. And the story of Green Lantern and all the Lantern Corps are just plain stupid (and silly) as well, not to mention their light powers are harnessed in some of the most cheesy ways possible.

I smell lantern hate. There is little wrong with the GL comics compared to the other big names in the last 10 years. Take it out of the MARVEL THREAD please and put it back in ur mouth.
