This translation is incorrect, in the Viz edition Blackbeard never mentions Haki.
Even if it does not prove it, if you watch the episode 151 you can catch the word ''haki'' .

@Monkey:
Is this a sarcastic post. Because the bolded tells me "yes".
It has to be and a glorious one at that.
Do we arleady have all the references from the color spread listed in this thread?
Sanji is Bruce Lee from Game of Death
I think Usopp and Chopper are supposed to be from the movie where Jackie Chan learns drunk martial arts from some old guy, I believe I recognize the jacket, old man Usopp has obviously the nose of a drunkard
Anybody got something else? Luffy also seems familiar, I'm thinking Jackie Chan again for some reason, no idea what the other members are supposed to represent
Edit: I think I recognized Luffy now, is it from Enter the Dragon? He wears a similar attire in that movie

It's based on Yie Ar Kung-Fu, a fighting game.

Also, that scene with Blackbeard was before we really knew what Haki was about. Viz probably didn't think the word had any significance so they tried to translate it as best as they could.

Haki IS ambition/willpower/grit etc.
The difference is only that we now know it can emit superpowers if you embody it well enough. And when people are referring to that use of it, they tend to leave it as Haki like Viz does.
But holy shit are we NOT supposed to forget what it really is, which is willpower.
I wonder when mangarule will release chapters 709 and 710… makes me wonder what is taking them so long.

They're releasing them simultaneously soon…
No shit Sherlock. I wondered as to why it's taking them that long and if maybe that will turn out to be the new schedule (which would kinda suck).
Forgive me for not reading this thread in its entirety, but has anyone speculated about Green Bit possibly being the source of the ingredients used to create SAD/Smiles?
I mean look at the Smiley's devil fruit:
!
And look at Greenbit:
!
The swirls in the vegetation really make me think that this may be the case, not to mention how close Green Bit is to Dressrosa (which we know is where Vergo departed from on the SAD tanker for Punk Hazard.)
Also look at these animals!
!
Those strange smiles have to be indicative of something, right?
****EDIT: Excuse my example of Smiley's fruit, I forgot that it was not a Smile.
This one, however, is (thank you Jackermeister!)

Unfortunately that's a real DF you have there and not a smile but I can see where you coming from and it may have something to do with the ADFs

Smiley's fruit is not a SMILE. Artificial DFs have circles instead of swirls.

Ah I apologize, I thought that Smiley's fruit was a smile (probably because of the similar names.)
Although, that first picture you posted, Jackermeister, that is a Smile correct? Then my theory can still be valid, excluding my Smiley example.

Well, it's Vegapunk's failed DF. Dunno if it's any different from SMILEs.

@Nex:
See, what I'm wondering is this: you remember that thread X started, the one about if you wanted One-Piece to have a tourney or not? http://forums.arlongpark.net/showthread.php?t=38298
47% of the voters said no. What the hell happened to all of them? Why am I the only person who is still not on board? This is a legitimate issue to me, because I want to like it. I had been approaching every chapter in the hope that something will finally hook me into this whole tournament thing. And I don't know why nothing has.
- It was poorly done from a story-telling standpoint. Everything was riding in high gear starting at the end of Punk Hazard. Doffy was on his way and he was pissed. There was a lot of tension. The whole group was on edge. They land and we get the amazing chapter 701. So many plot points are introduced. We get to see what may be the most unique and interesting island Oda's developed, and then, everything grinds to a halt for the tournament. We stop getting to explore Dressrosa, we don't get to follow any of the other plotlines, and all that tension is gone. While I'm not a fan of tournament arcs in general, I would have probably been more okay with it if it had been introduced at a different time.
- Kind of going hand in hand with the first, I want the adventure! We got a tiny little taste of the island and it was taken away from us for the tournament. One of the reasons I loved this chapter so much is that we finally got Oda doing his crazy environments and animals again.
- For a tournament, there haven't been any good fights so far. It's just been chaos, and we haven't really gotten to see much of anything outside of the very end of the B Block fight.
i have to be honest, you got a very good point in my opinion (i like the arc though) i think it could had been better if luffy was kinda forced into the tournament to piss the readers off with doflamingo (i guess i wished to see doflamingo as manipulative as crocodile because he was that when he was shown previous times)…and the tournament was done after the crew and law (also wished smoker and tashigi tagged along---to see how they will interact with fujitora) explored a little bit more of dress rosa (though maybe sanji's and zoro's and kinemon's side will show it to us.)
everything else was ok for me, but i agree with the tournament stuff stopping the momentum from punk hazard.
Hi everyone, I'm new here although I have been reading these forums for a long time.
I liked the chapter, and geen bit is just looking awesome!
I Olso found this in One piece color walk 2:

Chapter 234, page 17:
Great, thanks.
Yeah, it's part of the "infernal translation saga".
@Monkey:
Haki was mentioned as soon as willpower and ambition were brought up.
Lest we forget that Haki is more than One Piece's version of ki.
True. But the sentence "a 30 million bounty was quite low for such a "haki"", can be read both ways.
I guess the "regular" meaning is the first option, but coming from a man with a bounty of 0 berries, well. Don't know.
Some people seem confused, so I'll make it clear.
Law gave Doflamingo the ultimatum of discarding his Warlord title, which he did, and purposely got the Marines to come to Green Bit by telling Smoker he would be there.
He's pitting Doflamingo against Fujitora, it's all part of his master plan.
@CCC:
I think Caesar did begin to suspect, although not in that panel. First he was upset about the possibility of the plan being leaked ("Why didn't anyone tell me!?") and then he flat out accuses Law of orchestrating everything right after Law decides to dispatch Usopp and Robin into the forest to check out the Marines/dwarves. From Caesar's perspective, he's seeing the simple exchange plan breaking down (Marine presence + SHs wandering off somewhere) into a more complicated scheme by Law. Which makes sense. Law wouldn't dare take on DD in a straight-up fight, especially when he's already told us that he's saving up his stamina for the "return trip," which to me implies, "we're going to be running away from here in a hurry," after accomplishing whatever Law's real objective is (might just be delaying DD long enough for Franky to take out the factory… or bringing DD face-to-face with an Admiral. That sort of foresight doesn't seem unreasonable, even if he didn't know which Admiral would come).
Thinking Law's plan involves getting CC captured by the Marines at Green Bit. Even if returning CC is just a distraction to destroy the Smile Factory, it doesn't do any good if Doflamingo and/or Kaidou have CC back in their possession.
Yes, yes and yes.
Agree with the 3 of you (and CCC is right noticing that Caesar is suspecting that Law might be fucking with him big time).
But I don't see where "Law's surprise at the marines being there" could come from. Like this wasn't as planned. It's still going according to his wishes as far as I can read.
It will backfire, of that I'm totally sure, and that's when Doflamingo's past will come into play, but so far Law is pretty much in control of the situation.
CC getting caught by the marines would be sad cause he is a fantastic character, but from Law's perspective it would make sense.

Both Luffy and Sanji are from Bruce Lee's movies, although only Sanji's is the infamous Game of Death attire. Luffy's more of a vanilla kung fu gi, but he did wear it during Enter the Dragon and, if I'm not mistaken, Fist of Fury.
The rest are also pretty "regular" kung fu stereotypes, although you did a good catch with Usopp playing Jackie Chan's master in Drunken Master. A same character can be found in the videogame franchise King of Fighters, so it's a pretty well known reference.
Franky, Robin and Brook's lighting symbol seems like a weird and random Harry Potter reference, so I'd say it must be something different.
It's based on Yie Ar Kung-Fu, a fighting game.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yie_Ar_Kung-Fu
Yeah, and there's that too.
More on the chapter; while Luffy and Bellamy having such a "touching" moment is a bit. . .weird, I don't have anything against it. Oda's been trying to make a point that Bellamy changed, and Luffy felt it. That's why he cheered him on, and why he's conforting him now.
I hope Oda gives us a bit of info about Bellamy's trip to Skypiea. It's almost confirmed now he didn't do anything to its inhabitants, seeing how that would piss off Luffy, and kill all the good vibes this two are sharing right now, and we would go right back to the starting point. Sounds kinda pointless.
And Barto being Luffy's fan I can see happening, and it doesn't sound bad at all, imho.
@Monkey:
But…..Doflamingo HAS made Luffy enter the tournament through sneakiness :( ???
yeah…i get what you mean and i like the arc, im just saying he could make luffy enter the tournament (or wouldve been fun if it had been a team tourney, but yeah the current one is cool too) through force and pissing luffy off, like, kidnapping momonosuke or something. i think it would have made the arc much dramatic, not to mention that doflamingo is teasing luffy with ace's devil fruit.
I agree that maybe barto likes luffy.. i don't think he will end up being a good guy, though. maybe he will try to join luffy and then end up attack someone luffy likes and gets the shit kicked out of him by mad luffy
Which website are you using to reread One Piece?
Gosh I'm rereading OP and sometimes I have to stop or skip pages because of the translation…
I use batoto or mangareader, mostly batoto, im already at chapter 120 in less than a week, its amazing to see how you can forget stuff with time, I just enjoy it as much as the first time lol.
Ill give it to you tho, the translation is often really messed up, especially with early chapters.
Even now, Jaya and Thriller Bark Arcs have horrible scanlations btw

I think you're reading too much into that. There's a crapton of plants there, but only two of them show swirly patterns, and of the animals shown, only the Boar is smiling.
All of Usopp's early (during introduction arc) lies kept on proving true gradually throughout the entire series.
With those two linked by the person you quoted left, only the alien one remains, which most likely foreshadows Enel's return at some point which I'm really anticipating. In case you haven't seen the others, here you go.

Agreed, esp since the two plants with 'swirls' are plants that have analogs in real world. Top one looks similar (one instead of two entwined) Giant Jack in Skypeia's Upper Yard (which is a huge vine) the swirl is small vine stems, the other looks like certain plants that curl up before 'blooming' or releasing new leaves (esp certain ferns)= [hide]- - -[/hide]
I'll say it now.
Green Bit = Usopp's long awaited time to shine. He'll befriend the dwarves and be the reason they survive.

nice find. They gave me the same vibe Oda wants us to get with the fairys/dwarves now in green bit. Some cheecky little rascals.
14 minutes to the transaction yet we still have no idea where the factory is
"long-awaited"? He's been shining since Enies Lobby!
This is very true! (Though he's actually been shining since Syrup Village..)
I guess I just have high hopes for him this arc after this chapter. Dwarves, a giant forest island.. It just screams Usopp..

The subtitled FUNimation translation uses:
"100 million… In terms of ambitious spirit, I didn't think he was even worth 30 million..."
The dub isn't far removed from that, but doesn't specifically mention ambition or spirit or anything. I think they used something along the lines of, "I thought he was too bright-eyed to be worth even 30 million -- but 100 million..."
And whose gonna kill them exactly?
I don't know whether to take your post seriously or not..
Do you not think the situation they're in is dangerous? It's not as if they're just gonna walk in and out of Green Bit problem free when both the marines and Doflamingo (or whoever he sends) are there.. Law said himself this chapter that he needs to save all the energy he can for their escape/confrontation..

The movie with the 'drunken fist' is "Drunken Master" and I think Luffy's attire is similar to what Bruce Lee wears in "Fist of Fury"

I have no idea why… found it by typing "one piece color walk 2" on google images.
I just copy pasted the picture. Did i do something wrong?
Copy the 'Image Location' instead of the 'Image'
Thanks for the advise. But it got 404 error.
Anyways, the original picture is definitely Snowwhite and the 7 dwarves.
Very interesting find. Thanks for that!
Maybe that's an indication of what the Dwarves might look like. They'll probably look somewhat different at least, though.
I mean just look at the Centaurs that Oda drew above the Snow White part. They don't really look like the ones we saw on PH.
EDIT: I can't put the image here.
