Awesome stuff. Looking forward to more Loki goodness.
And was that Sif's jealous face at 0.51? Jane Foster better watch herself.

@Sniper:
Storm doesn't looks so bad, for an X-Men movie costume.
They could've used some more individual touches, but for the rest the X-Men costumes were fine.
Just got back from Iron Man 3 pre-premiere. Ask me anything.
And because I know people will want to know about the post-credit scene:
[hide]The entire movie is narrated by Tony Stark, where he talks about his fears and demons and such. In the post-credit scene it turns out he was talking to his science bro Banner, but he fell asleep around the beginning of the movie.[/hide]
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh, and Mandarin fans won't like this movie. In fact, I would say that the changes to this character were so big that they beat Deadpool in Origins.
Well The Mandarin was horrible to begin with. So…
I don't know jack about the Mandarin. So I won't care.

Was he a good villain?
(Also just by that after-credit scene, I'm gonna assume the movie was fucking awesome)

That would spoil things ;)

It was great fun, but nothing mindblowing. I think it's better than mediocre boreness like IM2, IH and Thor. It was on par with Captain America. But if you liked all the movies I didn't care for, you'll probably love this one.
CA is my favorite Marvel movie next to Avengers (which is my favorite movie of all time) so that's good to hear. It's actually a good thing you're telling me this because I've been hyping myself up for an Avengers level movie. Would have had to suffer hype disillusionment and would have been disappointed with a perfectly good movie otherwise. This way I know what to expect and can just have a good old time ;)
I don't know jack about the Mandarin. So I won't care.
Useful notes
-he karate chops so hard that Iron mans armor breaks
-He has a flair for pimp rings which shoot out non-ridiculous things like darkness
-He's a product of Americas fuck the commies era
-He's basiclly Fu Manchu as written by Stan Lee

I should also mention that, while the film definitely has a darker tone, it's still very fun and has a lot of jokes. It's nothing like how the trailers made it ought to be (The Dark Knight starring RDJ).

Now THAT is good to hear. Darker tone is fine just so long as it's still a fun movie.
Bishop and Warpath are also in DoFP.
I know Bishop but I am not familiar with Warpath
Native American, part of Liefeld's X-Force (he recovered from it), indestructible skin, can go toe to toe with Juggernaut and has adamantum knifes.
Being a native American, his greatest weakness is GODDAMN PATRIOTIC AMERICANS!!!
He looks like that guy who got blown up in like what the second issue of Claremonts X-men?
@wolfwoof:

Thunderbird is Warpath's older brother. Warpath originally had the Thunderbird codename as well back when he trained under Emma Frost and was planning to kill Xavier. Liefeld gave him the new edgy name and changed his appearance from a regular dude to stereotypical native American.
Just got back from Iron Man 3 pre-premiere. Ask me anything.
- How was Extremis handled? (Just give me a broad overview, try to avoid major spoilers plz)
I don't know what Extremis was originally like because I don't read Iron Man comics, but after a Wikipedia check it seems pretty similar (increased healing, superhuma strength).
- Was there an explanation for why Rhodey is suddenly the Iron Patriot?
American propaganda. Tony is not happy with it.
- What ACDC song was used in this one?
I have no idea, I'm not an AC/DC fan. "I'm Blue" played in the beginning of the movie though (it's a flashback to 1999), which was pretty awesome.
Saw Iron Man 3 yesterday and it was pretty good, not as good as first one but still pretty enjoyable.
It had suprisingly few action sequenses and movie focuses relationships of Tony and his Iron Man suits, I expected heavily battle focused movie with Iron Man kicking ass but instead this movie went to deeper route showing all problems Tony has developed by his addiction with his Iron Man suits and his increasingly detarioting mental condition.
Enemy was quite intresting and well executed, Extremis powers were not explained at all but it was well done anyway and whole terrorism themed thread was done quite well.
Iron Man 3 is more of a drama movie instead an action movie, its a movie where Tony searches for himself and have to make some major decisions regarding his regarding his 'love triangle' with his suit/girl friend and himself. Movie was not that bad but it is not best Iron Man movie either but still pretty good watch specially if you like Iron Man.

That actually sounds good. I remember reading the Avengers growing up and the turmoil Tony Stark went through in the 80s, not so sure of the 90s, focused more on X-men and the ever increasing ammt of X-books. But I do remember his alcohol addiction and mental problems, relationship problems.
Joss you sick SOB don't toy with me about Wanda and Pietro.
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver would be soooo amazing, but I'm pretty sure it would just cause confusion, especially since I think they wouldn't be able to talk about how they are mutants?
Just saw IR3. Very good movie. Ben Kingsley is the man!
! I wasn't expecting the Mandarin twist. Haven't read the comics, but have seen images of him and some story, so certainly wasn't expecting Pearce to take the lead. But I loved it.
! I was kind of less enthusiastic about this EXTREMIS thing. Although it's still scientific, I would've liked for Stark's enemies to remain somewhat, what should I say, normal humans, and not pumped up people who breathe fire. Leave that for Thor or The Captain. But that's just a small problem, and it did give Stark some challenge in terms of enemies he can fight.
I went to see Iron Man 3 as well yesterday. I think my opinion can be summarized in two words:
"Fuck yeah."
! Note that I have never read a single Iron Man comic nor seen any of the TV-series, and so my exposure to the character comes entirely from these movies (though for what it's worth, he is by far my favorite of the MCU-characters) and so the changes to the Mandarin and all that did not really bother me, but… yeah, I can very easily see why fans of the character might be very very angry with what this movie does with him. Still, I went into the movie wanting to see a fun, action-packed story with Tony Stark being his usual snarky badass self, and that's exactly what I got. And I was grinning like an idiot through pretty much the entire climactic battle. Finally we get an Iron Man movie where Iron Man actually gets to go up against an opponent who is a genuine threat to him… even if said genuine threat was also more than just a little bit silly.
damn you all! I can't see it til the end of this week.
Just got back from it, was pretty disappointed.
It's a good film, but if you come in with any comic book expectations…you'll be let down. Wish I knew ahead of time, I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but I didn't want to be spoiled so I went in blind.

Expectations such as Mandarin having 10 magic rings that do all sorts of crazy crap? I've been assuming that sort of thing doesn't carry over to the movie-verse (in spite of Thor) which is a pretty big blow to the character.
I'll be seeing it Friday with the rest of the office.
If i ever became a billionaire i'd fund a super campy 60's style marvel flick
There'd be commies, nazies, robots, magic rings, lava men, karate chops and all that good stuff
Saw the movie, fucking amazing. My favorite so far enxt to Avengers. I thought it was way better than Iron Man 1. That final battle was to die for.

Including the campy 'sound' effects? hehe I remember in early 80s watching the 60s version of Batman and the "sound" effects ..Not only did we hear a "ka pow" but see the comic style "KA-POW!" on the screen.
It was so campy but I loved it!

Are you gonna blog about it later like you did with DKR & Avengers?
@Rogues':
Are you gonna blog about it later like you did with DKR & Avengers?
Definitely, first I need to process the awesome.
Edit: And done.
Just finished Iron man.
! And it was a blast! Although there were a few plot errors (like the whole subplot with the botanist, largely forgettable), it was basically pretty much an iron man movie. I went into the movie expecting a much more 'serious' plot, but the plot felt more like 'tony stark can overcome his fears and insecurities since he's a superhero!'. Very action-able and the cast was a blast too. Also the mandarin! I wasn't really much of a comic book fan, but the whole thing was incredibly wonky the moment it was revealed that he was just a silly posterboy for the real baddies. I can see how fans with a certain level of expectation would be disappointed through.
! The best part of the movie would definitely be the ending scenes at the end where multiple scenes were flashed from all 3 movies with the whole action-camp music to it, giving it kinda a 'ending feel' with the whole trilogy(not that marvel would be dumb enough to quit their most successful film to boot). That scene was a very nice wrap up with a shout-out to its direction and it was awesome. I'm willing to bet wolfwoof will like it.
Overall a very iron-man movie, worth the watch.

If you go into it not expecting some level of changes, you're doing it wrong.
Iron Man 1 completely changed Stane's character. He's not supposed to be a high ranking official at Stark Industries, he's a competitor.
The Incredible Hulk completely changed the Abomination's nationality and origins, as well as changing the Leader's entirely, he's almost a different character. He was supposed to be average before getting his dose of radiation from an accident at the chemical plant he was working at. Not a genius who helped make the not-Russian Abomination by Mixing Hulk + Proto-Captain America.
Iron Man 2 changed Whiplash almost entirely, he has more in common with the Crimson Dynamo from the comics to be honest.
Thor made HUGE changes, they're aliens instead of actual gods? Thor being cast out as his Asguardian self instead of being Dr. Donald Blake? Jane Foster being an astro physicist rather than being a nurse?
Captain America fared better than most, but Bucky is an adult? He knows Bucky before becoming Captain America?
And the Avengers. Ok, what? They invented an Alien Race? Didn't use the Skrulls or the Kree or one of the other 500 alien races Marvel already created?
Plus, going into Iron Man 2 we already knew that they were painting the War Machine armor like the Iron Patriot armor. Meaning Rhodey is Iron Patriot and not Norman Osborn. We also know that the guy they hired to play the Mandarin is NOT Chinese and that they're trying real hard to not make the character as racist as he appears in the comics…..
So.... yeah, unrealistic expectations much?
I'm seeing it Thursday, the Harkins by my house is doing a 10pm showing that night. Gonna have a mini-party Thursday too, inviting friends over and we're watching The Avengers at my house before going to see the movie.

The changes
! aren't exactly of the minor sort, but a complete change of the mandarin himself. Like how he's just a drunken dude hired to provide the image.

Perfect! This is exactly how I pictured him anyway.
! I haven't read any of the comics so I don't really care that the integrity of mandarin's character wasn't preserved. I mean I knew who he was but from my experience of him from the cartoon, he was just some goofy Chinese stereotype who was always trying to take down Stark for some reason and had 10 magic dragon rings Yeah, that'd fit the tone of the movie.
! I just love what they did with the character. I haven't been trolled by a movie like that since Crank 2. Everything from the trailers to the poster were meticulously crafted to fool us all for that big twist. Fucking brilliant.

In the comics, The Mandarin is a descendant of Genghis Khan, and he believes being a descendant of Genghis Khan, that he has the right to take over the world and fulfill the 'conquest of the khan'.
Of course, Tony Stark won't allow that to happen, and therefore the 2 clash nonstop.

The thing is, the counter-argument about it being 'too goofy' and the rings being 'too over the top' are completely dumb at this point, especially with what happened in The Avengers and what's going to happen in The Avengers 2 and 3.
They're introducing the Mad Titan Thanos for god-sake. A large, purple alien with an overpowered god-like gauntlet. An alien who worships a female manifestation of death, an alien who eventually accomplishes his goal and, like…becomes the Universe.
Heck... If Galactus is introduced into the picture, then that argument is even more stupid. He travels around the Universe eating planets, shooting cosmic beams with the ability to destroy almost anything, and who survived the Big Bang in a Universe existing before our Universe. Did I mention he has a naked, silver guy on a matter-eating surf board who prepares planets for him to eat? lol
Even considering the tone of this series, Chinese stereotype with magic rings? That's still going a bit too far. Regardless, I much preferred the direction the character took in this movie rather than wacky magic ring antics.

Yeah, you might want to watch the film before spewing out this.
The big elephant in the room change on the Mandarin has been spoiled for me because… everyone wants to talk about it, especially since it came out overseas first.... even though I've been trying to avoid spoilers.
I fully expected them to downplay the magical rings/decendent of Ghengis Khan thing. But If what I've heard is true.... Yeah. That's... uhm... an interesting direction to go in? I dunno if I'm glad to know this in advance or upset... cause it sets a decidedly different character and tone.
Dang it! I want to know! …..maybe?

Dang it! I want to know! …..maybe?
You don't. For now, settle for "it's extremely not at all like the comics" and go to the movie with that in mind. It should help.
After the extreme level of changes made to Thor and the Asguardian Mythos, I doubt anything they did to the Mandarin could have destroyed anything…
Plus, Mandarin is a character I wasn't very fond of in the first place... He's a character born out of a racial stereotype from an era where that was still an acceptable thing to do in society, that they've tried really hard to fix since but... that taste never left my mouth over him. Plus, the fact that the original terrorist organization that captured Tony in IM1 was called "The Ten Rings" I already knew he wasn't gonna be Chinese and a descendant of Khan and all that.
Also, people saying "Magic rings shouldn't be a stretch after The Avengers"... Why?...
Thus far, every human earth-bound character is very grounded in reality and real. The only characters that have more mystical-like powers are the Asguardians and the Chitauri... and they're all aliens... Thor implies heavily in his solo movie that the Asguardian abilities are created by some form of science as well.
The Mandarin is a human being. In every continuity. The rings wouldn't make sense in this world because this world has already established that humans are humans and all the human powers and abilities are science-based. Tony's suit is technology, the Super Soldier Serum was Technology, the Gamma poisoning that causes Banner to become the Hulk is a scientific accident.
Adding in a regular normal human being that somehow got his hands on something genuinely "Magic" WOULD be a ridiculous stretch in this universe, because if there are humans who can do magic, where the hell were they during the Chitauri attack?!
Quit talking like the changes are nothing before you even know what they are
Making him not a chinese stereotype, whatever. Not having magic powers, whatever. That was all to be expected the way they've set up their movieverse. The complaints are stemming from something else.
Including the campy 'sound' effects? hehe I remember in early 80s watching the 60s version of Batman and the "sound" effects ..Not only did we hear a "ka pow" but see the comic style "KA-POW!" on the screen.
It was so campy but I loved it!
You bet. And villains who in an non-ironic manner say "he may have tharted my evil plans last time but my new fiendish plot will get him"
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Thor made HUGE changes, they're aliens instead of actual gods?
Well yeah isn't that pretty much how they have been presented in the marvel universe?
With the supernatural being so damn mundane there it feels kinda semantical if they're gods or superpowered aliens

Wasn't it confirmed that they're planning on doing a 'Doctor Strange' movie in the Marvelverse? That seems like it would be a strange movie to make based on science and technology.
They made the right decision. Mandarin is a racist garbage character and only a handful of comic readers actually care about him (though they've already made themselves quite vocal over the internet).
