Why would they want the hype to go down when it's finally released though?
One Piece Film Z (Wrap Canon From the Manga Not Yet in the Anime with Spoiler Tags)
-
-
Not really sure. It's probably just another one of Toei's weird marketing strategies.
-
One Piece Film Z will be released in May 24th. That's earlier than expected! Awesome.
!
Kind of a dumb cover for that. Z is hardly even in that Filler Arc.
-
Exactly why they can't add that as a bonus feature for the main movie? I mean it's blu-ray I'm sure they can cram it on there with the other stuff they got planned.
-

Because it's almost 1.5 hours of new content.
Oh and..
!
-
BLAZING FUCK DOES THE ABOVE BULLSHIT PISS ME OFF.
They honestly tried to make it look like actual Film Z as hard as they could, didn't they?Damn their marketing tricks.
-
I seem to recall that they did the exact same thing for Little East Blue, including the bit about putting Shiki on the cover to make it look like the actual movie too. Why are people surprised at this?

Exactly. I guess that worked, since they're doing it again..

I don't know if this is the correct thread for this question, but where can I see the source/translation Volume Z info?

Try the Volume Z Thread
It was tucked back a few pages.
-
Thanks man,got what I wanted it for.
Also suddenly Z is already ranked well above Shiki in my head as a character…
-
So has Film Z been subbed yet?
-
No, it likely won't be until it's released on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Is there also a known date it will be released on bluray ?

Unfortunately I don´t live in the USA so I don´t have Shonen Jump Alpha als well : (
But wow, the Binks no sake dub is really beautiful! I know it´s not the right thread to ask, but is this song dubbed in any other language besides of French? This is the Italian Version of Binks no sake…
Hope you like it ^_^ -
@Cappello:
This is the Italian Version of Binks no sake…
Hope you like it ^_^I´ve seen this already but still thank you^^
-
So, without having seen the movie beyond a few random scenes still, I was meaning to ask: y'all think we might eventualy get back to the "old style" of OP movies just being made for the sake of entertainment and not trying to constantly one-up the previous one and get massive amounts of hype and over-exposure and "look at this three second snippet and spend the next three months grasping at straws about what we're gonna actualy make !" sorta ads/teasers/what have you ?
I think a simple, "down to earth" Movie would be realy good to see now, as this can't go on forever. Hell I think I would probably call any more of this intense media hype BS with no pre-concieved bias to speak of anyway.
Also kinda hoping we get a proper filler arc in the series so we can actualy not stretch propper cannon to breaking point all the damn time, but that's another topic entirely.
-
Movie 11 already was a "down to earth movie". (whatever that is..>.>)

Most of those "down-to-earth" movies sucked. Movie 4 and Movie 6 were good, but everything else… Meh.
-
is there any news on when this will be subbed? fan sub or funi sub i am good with either
-

Well I wouldn't say that. Sure from what I've seen there were some issues but overall they did what they needed to, and setup some unique situations, even at the cost of some characters being a bit out of character.
I just miss the days when movies coming out would be simple, filler-type time wasters rather then having a year's worth of hype shoved in my face only to come to realise the movie was not all that good, as happened with Strong World.
-
The "down to earth" movies were decent entertainment, but don't compare to either Strong World or Film Z in my opinion. Some characters being too out of characters put me off of some of them. For example Zoro in movie 5.
I might be biased when it comes to Strong World since it promotes my otp though, and the plot is really simple.
Film Z was great though, vastly superior to the others. I wouldn't mind if they keep making movies like that. -

I see what you're saying.
Strong World was decent, kind of like Movie 4,
but it couldn't live up to the hype because they put all their work into the first half-hour or so. After that point, it lost its luster. -

Weren't most of the One Piece movies pretty hyped up though? Before Strong World, there was a movie every year since 2000.

Yeah but I don't remember anyone bringing up any kinda massive media campaigns related to say the Chopper/Alabasta remakes and the like.
It seems since SW they've become dedicated to sell a crapton of tickets by announcing how utterly insanely good it is all year long, which sorta feels forced at this point.

but it couldn't live up to the hype because they put all their work into the first half-hour or so. After that point, it lost its luster. Also there were practicaly no fights beside Shiki, which kinda annoyed me, and the whole last thirty-ish minutes felt like a serious re-tread of the climax to Skypiea, what with the location, the suffering natives with the men being enslaved to build the "Blow the whole place up" machine for the bad guy and the villain wanting to kill everyone of them for poorly explained reasons.
And then we have Shiki's character. Oda made him seem like an enjoyable bastard in Chapter 0, but the anime stopped just short of having him drown babies for his own personal amusement.
Then there's the problem of, well, the "tie in" fillers both movies got. And while the second one was okay-ish, both were pretty terrible overall, and having pretty much the same plot and not actualy connecting to the movie in any way.

But it wasn't "the anime", Oda wrote the movie story too. Everything Shiki does (or not) in the movie, complain to him.

It was kind of obviously Skypiea. The natives had wings, LOL.
-
The most anoying thing in the Strong World movie was the village people just flying off, yeah we can chalk it up as the people evolving to fly because of the IQ plant but….
Movie 5 was terrible out of character. I agree with everyone else that the good ones are, movie 4, 6, 10.
Also I saw film Z in the terrible version and Raw and god it was good, I can't wait to see it in decent quality.
As far as subs go, I don't know japanese but if any of the japanese savyy members of this forum would volunteer a rough transcript I would glady make subs in spanish and english in str format for the horrible version. It would be very easy to adapt to a definitive version if (when) it comes out
-
Never seen a One Piece film in full really aside from 8. I saw Strong World, and from a presentation angle it certainly impressed me, and the way Z blends CGI and 2D is so beautiful (from what I've seen in trailers). It just shows that 2D doesn't have to be against 3D, and vice versa. They can both work in unison to make something truly beautiful.
-
What's up with Film Z in America now? Last I've heard Toei was in talks with Funi for distributing the film over here and with others in Europe. Several countries are already showing this movie (with the most recent one being in Philippines with English Subs, I think.) The US meguca fans were already lucky with Aniplex showing the first 2 movies in US theaters and was successful so I don't see why its taking so long for Funi to take advantage of the situation and just distribute Z in limited theatres. (my guess is that there's an issue with profits, licensing and stuff.) We're already nearing a Blu-Ray release soon…(at least in Japan.)
-
There was never anything saying they were in talks with FUNimation, just that they'd be interested in bringing the film to America at some point in the future. For all we know no discussion has started yet. FUNimation's dubbing the end of Enies Lobby and Strong World now so maybe next year (which also fits with the leak that stated they already have the rights to the movie. Though FUNi denied it, Film Z was listed in their original Press Release email for last July's Otakon panel).
-
Say, has there been any word of a BluRay-release of this movie any time soon? Because I just came to Japan the other day for a study exchange program, and was kind of disappointed to see that the movie doesn't appear to be in theaters any more… At least not in any of the theaters around here. I mean, I thought I saw it on Amazon slated for a release at the end of May, but then I noticed that nope, that was just the filler-arc.

I heard a rumour that Film Z would be released on Blu-Ray around mid-July, early August. Cannot remember where I heard this though.

So is Film Z canon? I mean they showcase a lot of canon stuff. The only thing that was different was the appearance of Marine HQ. The wiki says Oda said it was non-canon but they don't even site a source for that. They also say in other areas that Oda has made no statements on the movie whatsoever. In an SBS regarding Usopp's pop greens Oda tells us to watch the movie to see where he keeps them and grows them. Why would Oda tell us to look for canon information in the movie if it was non-canon? I'm not sure what to think anymore.

The Marine HQ is different, Jonathan and Kibin appear in it, for it being able to happen the manga version of arriving in the New World would have to be wrong…it's non-canon.
I don't know where you have the bit with Oda telling us that about Usopp though.

For all we know Oda could be telling us those characters are canon now. There is so much other canon pieces of this movie that are revealed. Like Aokiji actually losing a limb as well as his scars and appearance. According to Oda in One Piece Volume Z Zephyr is the canon instructor to Sakazuki, Kuzan, and Borsalino. And the Usopp thing:
Reader: Oioioioioioi, good day to you. Usopp's got those "pop greens" and all, but what would he do if they ever ran out? P.N. Girls with short hair are the best <3
Oda: Right. I've been getting this question a lot, for a while now. I thought about showing the answer in the actual comics, but I haven't had that sort of chance. There's actually a scene concerning this in the screenplay of the movie, "Film Z", which comes out in December. Everyone was worried because what he shoots are seeds, right? But it's alright. At the back of Sunny-Go, Usopp made a flower bed called "Usopp's Garden" where he mass produces pop greens. There's a scene in the movie where he's spraying insecticide, so those of you who see it can confirm. I'd like to include something about it in the comic as well.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh and about the strawhats arrival in the New World. The distance they traveled to Punk Hazard was clearly off-paneled. There was no island directly in their path when they first entered the New World and the next chapter they were at Punk Hazard. Oda definitely off-paneled the time it took them to travel to PH.

Well, the characters Zephyr, Ain and Binz we can assume are canon themselves, much like Shiki and Indigo from Strong World. Also the part with Usopp's Pop Greens - but the story in the movie is in no way fitting into the actual canon.
Also this:
@Galaxy:A little bit of new information from the film pamphlet.
! 1. Unlike Strong World, the plot and characters of film Z is created by Osamu Suzuki, not Oda. Oda only supervised it.
- All non canon Devil Fruits are permitted by Oda. The same goes for Modo-Modo and Mosa-Mosa. Suzuki created the two and Oda just permitted them. As for Shiki's DF, Oda himself created it.
- The new marine HQ in the film will never appear in the manga. Oda told the art director to regard the film as another thing. (official pamphlet p.33)
This pretty much confirms the film as non-canon.
@Galaxy:
Well yeah. If it's mentioned in the manga later, then sure, it happened, but I find it extremely unlikely that it will happen due to this also being in the pamphlet.
! Oda said he doesn't want "the readers who read manga but don't watch the film" to be confused, when he was asked about the relation between manga and the film. (official pamphlet p.27)

They arrived on a sea of fire, which turned out to be the sea right before Punk Hazard. They even changed their arrival in the New World in the Anime filler that's part of Film Z's storyline.

As Galaxy mentioned in the posts I quoted it's from the official pamphlet of the movie. It's probably somewhere on the forum, but I don't really feel like searching through tons of pages for it.^^

Wasn't the official pamphlet One Piece Volume Z/1000? If so I don't remember reading about the stuff that you listed when I researched it.

I'm not quite sure about that right now either. It's been some time since all this information already. xD

Alright. I guess I'll have to wait until all this information is released. I appreciate you answering my questions.
-
Well, Its possible to have a Non-Canon story USING cannon elements.
For example, Usopp growing his seeds is cannon, Marine HQ isn't. Zephyr could be (actually is) cannon, the fight with Luffy & co isn't.
Oda's right, if he doesn't have the time to connect the manga to the film is not just becaue the readers will get confused but more that it jus't doesn't fit with the manga pacing and actual story line.
