The Team 4-Star DBZ abridged Goku is actually the best dub Goku there is, he gets the character pretty great… and he's in the PARODY series where Goku's stupid is raised about 20 notches. What's up with that?
(Really, all the Team 4-Star voices are pretty great, almost all superior to the actual dub. How the hell?)
@Ronin-sama:
I don't get it. You guys really like the Japanese Goku voice? It's sounds so scratchy and high pitched….what is good about that?
Sense of fun and playfullness. Emotion and enthusiasm. Amazing screams. The best kamehameha.
Doesn't sound like taking a crap when powering up or attacking.
Also demonstrates the music difference. Dub is just angry rock. Japanese there's actual menace and tension and it seems like something BAD is going on.
And if you get 6 minutes in you even get a King Kai comparison! (And most of the cast)
And geez did the anime stretch out that SUper 3 transformation.
@pyromonki:
The only thing missing is the hick accent. Which.. I still don't know why all dubs ignore it.
Because it's subtle, the dub translators aren't going to pick up on that nuance in the Japanese, and the only in-script references to it (and Chichi's accent) are in the Dragonball portion of the series. So the dubs starting with episode 170 on DBZ have no idea its supposed to be there. I think even the viz manga misses it too… Chichi just sort of has an accent at the tournament so Oolong can figure out who she is, then its gone almost immediatley, even though he's actually supposed to have a fairly pronounced accent but... (Similarly, they gave Piccollo a formal regal speech pattern initially, but then kinda dropped the ball on that.)
Also. Jeece is from Space Australia.
