Since Usopps and Namis powers are both mainly from tools (Oh yeah and Franky) we need to definitely find out more about what new techniques they have…
Chapter 695: Leave it up to me!

-
The only thing that kinda bugs me about Usopp and Nami taking out Buffalo and Baby-5 is that you get the impression that if Franky hadn't have beaten them so badly beforehand….they may not have been enough to take them out..
Luffy bragging to Law about his crew put a smile on my face that made me instantly read the chapter again, twice.

Why should they be able to take them out easly? Franky is like the guy after the Monster Trio to the crew, they are the weakest, we have Doflamingo crewmembers which are supposedly not weak(I see their defeat as Franky being stronger), I was kinda more bugged about Franky beating them like he was joking with them he didn't even break a sweat but unlike what we though this guys migth be the weakest members of Doflamingo crew just like Monet(even though she was a Logia) and we will see stronger chalenges when the SHs go head on with them, I was kinda bugged like I said but rigth now it has settled in and I'm ok with it.
Yeah that was pretty cool, I always like when the SHs talk about their crew, Usopp talking about Luffy some chapters ago was pretty awesome too, it really gives a great sense on how much of a family they are as a crew.
-
Anyway, read a while back someone saying Sanji couldn't beat Vergo and blah blah tiering nonsense. Don't feel like going into the argument but to me it was pretty obvious Sanji and Vergo were about evenly matched, and he just had the damage from earlier weighing on him, plus he didn't seem to be putting his all forth honestly. Not to mention the battle in itself didn't seem like it was meant to be a life or death fight. I don't even understand why people bother trying to make power levels in OP anyways. There's really only like 4 levels. Crazy Strong-Strong-Weak-Fodder. Seems to sum them all up to me, with the levels moving up depending on where exactly in the world you are. Which, brings me to my next point, that Buffalo and Baby 5 weren't weak. The Strawhats are STRONGER. I still don't get why people want to see them suffer and almost die every single fight, that shit is exhausting and annoying. I hope this trend continues and all their next fights are more on equal terms, with the injuries such as Sanji's leg breaking still being overcome. Instead of that nonsense where they have to lose like 8 times to win.
Err… besides the rant.... wasn't Vergo mentioned to be a Vice-Admiral? I can't re-call. But if so, I think that goes to show we don't know all the vice-admirals in the OP world. Most of the New World marines probably stayed stationed there during the war, and we'll get 1 Admiral from them, and 1 surprise one from the old guys, maybe. Assuming it stays 3. I just can't see it being only Kizaru though. 4 yonkou-7 shichibukai-1 admiral= Bad balance for the three great powers.
I agree with you about the Sanji vs Vergo matchup I was lookin forward to the fight but had forgotten about Sanjis injury from earlier, he was holding his own with Vergo even so and Vergo is a physical beast like Luffy is. I can only conclude from that fight that Sanji is Vice Admiral equivalent in strength now, it is not clear yet just how strong Luffy or Zoro are as they have not really had a critical matchup yet since the timeskip (I dont count FI arc or what has happened so far in this arc). A possible fight with DD would definately clear any doubts up about that, I personally think that Luffy can take DD (epic fight of course) if he can somehow negate DD's fruit as it is pretty hax (perhaps Luffy's King's Haki will do it).
-
Not just Usopp either. I want to hear from ALL the SHs!
Ditto here. I mean seriously they were under some of the greatest names in the world. Especially Nico Robin. She was most likely with Dragon aka the most mysterious guy in OP, she had rebels following here and….we have absolutely no idea what the hell happened over there
-

Yea. I wonder how Oda is gonna tell us what they where doing during the time skip.

I know they wouldn't have been able to take them out easily, if at all had Franky not have softened them up first..Whether they could have without him is what I wondered about..
Franky having such an easy time with them didn't bug me at all, he'd been away for 20+ chapters and really deserved a good show case of how strong he's become. Really, I've been waiting for it since Kuma said he was disappointed that's all he was capable of at Thriller Bark, and Fishman Island didn't give much…
Also, I got the impression that these guys weren't Doffy's top fighters, (Monet, Buffalo, and Baby-5) Vergo might be, he was kinda hyped, but was obviously gonna lose against either Smoker or Law. When we saw the others at Dressrosa there were what, 4 others? Probably more we didn't see (as Buffalo was one of them). I'm sure he has a handful of others around somewhere. And, yes! I was just re-reading the chapters with Usopp talking about Luffy to Heracles'un and it's still just as awesome as it was every other time I've read it. The part where he's like "He's pushing himself too hard!! He's screaming out!! And that's why....He needs me strength on his side!!" ...Usopp is great.

Oda definitely uses eastern/Asian style of naming.
He even demonstrates it with Law and his 'politeness' when he calls people Mr.
I.e. Eustass-ya , StrawHat-ya…. Mr. Eustass, Mr. StrawHat.. And you only really title people when speaking their surnames. Like when you were a kid you'd call your friends parents 'Mr/Mrs/Miss' and their surname. The only manga I can think of that uses western style 'naming' is Fairy Tail and Soul Eater
When it comes to the anime most are turned western like Naruto and Bleach. But funi dub remains eastern with One Piece. Luffy calls himself 'Monkey D. Luffy' and everyone else's names remain unchanged.
Unless you do think that Oda uses eastern style naming. If so; Luffy, Dragon and Garp all share the first names and have different surnames. Roger is actually Gol.
As for English type/spelled names like Edward. Still surnames. Edward Newgate was referred to as Newgate a few times, and was called that before he became a captain of his own and grew a 'hige (moustache/beard)'
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
And as for Luffy calling Law 'Trafal-Guy' is kind of a miss translation. In romaji Trafalgar Law is spelt Torafaruga Lo (spelt phonetically) and Luffy actually calls him 'Tora-man'. Tora in Japanese means Tiger
And because of most the Shichibukai have animal themes, some just think that the name indicates that

@nodensuke:
I thought the same thing, actually. What chapter does he teach Usopp about them? I'm not sure if he mentions anything about it in the scans I have, I'll double check and post back in the AM.
Oda needs to give us another situation where Usopp gives us an explanation/run down of his new "Black/Grow Up Kabuto" without someone cutting him off..
EDIT: It definitely doesn't say anything about water, but, it does say that they grow in great numbers and regularly undergo sudden and aggressive growth spurts.
Ah you found it before I could read your post. If anyone one else is interested, its the last page of ch 596

Same here, but I have certain members I want to see more than others, to be honest. Usopp being number 1.
we got our eyes on the same character. I still want to know how Usopp got off Boin and back to Sabaody! While they were big enough to ride, I think those beatles couldn't have flown the entire way.

I kind of miss Franky's old fighting style. I still love General Franky, but back when Franky was a very dirty and underhanded fighter, he was much more entertaining.

Not likely to be Shichibukai bracelets unless Blueno is now one. :/This chapter was great! Choc-full of awesome moments. Finally Nami and Usopp step up to bat (though only when the enemy is already damaged and running for their lives, lawl), Franky was awesome as always, the reactions to Frankybot - both male and female - and the mysteries of the Donquixote family, Heart Seat and shadow!
any more theories abt doflamingo-mihawk..lol

Overall I really had fun reading this chapter. It's not every day that Franky, Nami, and Usopp get to take center stage. I didn't find time to write these for the last two chapters and this one is a bit rushed, but I think I can keep up again now.
-
The Caribou story took sort of an odd turn. But it really leaves a ton of possibilities on how this can go. I don't think I'm ready to jump on any kind of redemption bandwagon, though. I have a feeling he'll get too evil and greedy again and get stomped again. It's just a matter of time.
-
I really enjoyed this General Franky fight. It seemed so much more fun than Fishman Island, which was mostly just him being invincible to everyone and everything. And I think it was a really good move to give General Franky the air cannon technology. I was just thinking recently that I liked the coup de vent and was going to miss it. Also, having Franky fight in a robot suit at times should allow Oda to expand Franky's development from the timeskip out longer if he wants to. The plot will have to be a little more tailored to Franky in order for him to improve much at this point I think, so having extra material to work with would make sense.
Speaking of Franky, this chapter made me think a bit about his character. As best as I can tell, Franky basically just handed Caesar over in this chapter after he figured out he was their goal. The problem is that he should know better. Franky was there when Law showed up and made an alliance with Luffy. And not only did he hear the plan to kidnap Caesar, but he even went with Luffy for the first attempt, which failed. Really, giving away your kidnapping target to total strangers you happen to be fighting with is incompetent at best. At first I was fairly annoyed by this, convinced that Oda didn't think this one through all the way. But now that I've thought about it a bit, I think Franky's common sense is just that awful. He could literally be dumber than Luffy. It's not like this is an isolated incident. I don't have to look back very far to see him using monster point while in Chopper's body, and in this very chapter he admitted he started firing on Buffalo and Baby 5 because he thought they were trying to steal his cola (lol what).
-
Caesar's spike isn't imbedded into Monet's heart anymore so that faint, glimmering chance that she might be dead is probably gone now. Not that it should be surprising. She won't even be the first character to survive getting hit directly in the heart (/cough Sodom).
-
I love the "they're enemies" spread. But I find it hilarious that Tashigi is apparently outranked as a threat by a couple random fodder guys. Let's assume that's because she's injured. I find it funny how most everyone on this island is all beaten up by this point yet the Straw Hat crew is still largely unscathed (minus Sanji). And I personally thought that Luffy stopping Law from interfering was a nice touch.
-
Nami's evil little lip lick there made me step back a second. She's… eager to fight? That's the nice way of putting it, which by itself can make the point. But to accompany that eagerness with an identical expression to what Monet used makes her seem downright bloodthirsty to me. 695 chapters in, and that's the first time I've ever gotten that vibe from Nami. I can't even remember her even being eager to fight before.
-
The confidence that Nami and Usopp get by not facing danger cracks me up to no end. As soon as the enemy isn't fighting back they become little kids in the front raising their hands as hard as possible hoping to get picked. I think Oda milked that joke about the right amount in this chapter.
-
I didn't really understand how Usopp's weapon worked when I read the mangapanda version yesterday, but the mangastream version made it make a lot more sense. He squeezes the end of the handle to pump water to the plant and wake it up. That explains why it so conveniently comes and goes. I have to admit that precision aiming with a spitting plant seems a little odd, though. We got some great info in this chapter to get a little better understanding of the black kabuto, but I still feel like there's a lot more I want to know about that thing.
I also like that the seastone cuffs which were sought after for many a chapter had such a good reveal. Another great Usopp moment for the archives.
-
Nami's attack was downright crazy. I find it a little weird that her weather ball technology seems to be turning into eggs, but whatever it doesn't matter. With mangapanda yesterday, I figured "thunder breed" meant that there were lots of lightning bolts. Now I realize the third panel on that page shows Buffalo from behind so it's parallel to the ground. So that means Nami made the lightning bolt turn back up, travel over Buffalo, and crash back down. It's a cool attack, but doesn't really seem to fit the name for me. And seriously, her abilities at this point put a lot of fruit users to shame. I also really like the art of Buffalo getting electrocuted for some reason. I think it's the chains.
-
Cool cliffhanger of some mysterious monstrous guy sleeping on a giant bird. I gotta say that I totally feel for the guy. I'd hate to wake up and find out that some bird flew me to be lost at some random spot in the middle of the ocean. I don't really know who it is, but if I had to guess I'd go with Jack, because I sort of expect to hear something from him sooner or later. I know there are some similarities to Aokiji, but it being Aokiji just doesn't make sense to me from a plot perspective.

Maybe it's different in Fishman Island :ninja:
But then again only three Fishmen have been given both names/ had both revealed. Hody, Ikaros and Decken.
Hody's crew mates probably just call him that out of respect or just because its the name he prefers/has always preferred (some people do go by their surnames). As for Ikaros… A sign of respect to a friend or he just prefers Ikaros. As for VanDer Decken XI... He goes by the forename (not his surname or number :ninja:) but then again his entire name is used a lot

I don't think Franky had a chance to act there. Only after he blasted Buffalo and Baby 5 away he noticed that Caesar is actually within sight, and there was quite the distance between them.
! On the next page Buffalo and B5 are already at Caesar's side, at least it looks like they landed right next to him (notice that there are at least 2 tiny silhouettes):
!
And then Team Counter Hazard enters and steals the spotlight, giving both the chance to snatch him away.As to Franky's character, I interpreted the "you wanted to steal my cola" as a petty excuse thugs typically make before they beat someone up ("you looked funny at me, that's why"), which makes sense considering Franky's past and reputation as a backstreet-brawler. As much as I love your "ultimate idiot, even worse than Luffy" theory, he showed that he does have common sense. Capturing Caribou in a barrel would be such a moment.

I agree with this but then I think about the "pirate's mark" in Vegapunks old lab. I think he's a nice cross between this and what Urouge said.

Fisher Tiger is like Decken too, Fisher - surname, Tiger - first name that his pals use to refer to him. Apart from him I think no other Fishman have beem given 2 names. And this ambiguity about which is the first name only started after the timeskip with these guys and CC, at least for me…
-
I think he's a nice cross between this and what Urouge said.
Oh yeah, definitely this. But I wouldn't go so far and compare him with Luffy (who is basically an animal in human form).

Has anyone entertained the apparently absurd possibility that Oda uses both naming styles? Obviously he uses eastern. There's no disputing that. But it's pretty dang hard looking at this list and thinking Oda didn't intend a western orientation.

Benn Beckman
Caesar Clown
Catarina Devon
Charlotte Linlin
Don Krieg
Edward Newgate

Rob LucciI think this too! There is just no way that for example Catarina is the surname of Catarina Devon or that Edward Newgate´s surname is Edward. It would be really awkward. But I couldn´t figure out a naming system yet, so anyone know when Oda uses the eastern and when he uses the western style?
-
As for Basco Shot, I've always thought its one of the 2 names for one like Sally Anne Perks is called Sally Anne, not Sally.
Marshall D Teach, wasn't he was called Teach by both Ace and Whitebeard?
We already saw a flashback of Whitebeard being called Newgate by fellow crewmates before he became Whitebeard. -

Well too late for that? Think not…
OK first the cover page. I Think it is ok, we dont know thinks about what Caribou wants to do so we have to waiting a little bit.
The battle between Franky and Baby 5 & Buffalo had a fantastic end with the General Cannon but for those to ask my opinion is that we will see them again in Doflamingo arc
As everyone already said the page with "Enemies thing" was spectacular and i like how Nami and Usopp take the shine with those attacks (Really cool both of them but some things need to be explained (i guess when the time comes))
Finally Caesar captured and as Law says "first stage is a success".
For the guy in the last panel im going with Aokiji for the reason of prisoners
-

And then Team Counter Hazard enters and steals the spotlight, giving both the chance to snatch him away.I'm not sure I want to get into a whole debate on positional analysis, but Caesar is there because he crashed into the side of that ship in the first place, so he's certainly not far from it. The point is that they're interlocked into a fight right up until Franky figures out that they're trying to get Caesar, at which point he basically seems to just quit. I mean really, no comment from him about needing Caesar at all? He doesn't even fire at them anymore? He certainly had no problem doing that the moment they appeared. Caesar was clearly not on his list of priorities at all, which is what I'm focused on. What he could or couldn't have done about it isn't really the point.
As to Franky's character, I interpreted the "you wanted to steal my cola" as a petty excuse thugs typically make before they beat someone up ("you looked funny at me, that's why"), which makes sense considering Franky's past and reputation as a backstreet-brawler. So next time he'll do that to allies then. That doesn't really help him in the ultimate idiot case. And Luffy has had his fair share of moments of random ingenuity as well.

Ok,let's not derail the thread more. Not every OP chapter discussion thread needs to have Naruto or Bleach. -
Btw, the "General Cannon" has a nice oomph to it

Oh boy, prepare to get raped. :ninja:
(liking Bleach here seems to be a sin)Bleach is crap when it comes to anything resembling a story or character development but the fights are cool. I personally gave up the show long ago but I do like watching the fight clips on youtube.
Now Naruto on the other hand I tried watching and dear god not only does the story suck , not only are the characters annoying but the fights are medciore at best. I am baffled as to why this show is so popular.

(liking Bleach here seems to be a sin)No one should have any problems for liking Bleach here, but if someone starts praising Bleach as good then don't be surprised if you get your shit wrecked.
Either way, I died laughing at the "Dead Silence" part of the chapter. Nami and the girls need to get acquainted with Megasa XLR. Chicks dig giant robots.

The point is that they're interlocked into a fight right up until Franky figures out that they're trying to get Caesar, at which point he basically seems to just quit.
How much time do you think passed from the moment Franky obliterated B&B5 and the other Straw Hats arriving at the scene? Because you make it sound like he stood there for several minutes twiddling his thumbs. Yet everything happened back to back, he couldn't even quit because he was already interrupted by the others. Everything happend within 3 pages:
1. Defeat of Baby5 and Buffalo, Franky spots Caesar on the last panel
!
2. Franky is surprised that they can still stand up after taking a Gaon Cannon and realizes that they are after Caesar. Note that the last panel already shows the Straw Hats almost leaving the tunnel!
3. The final page, the Straw Hats burst into the scene and Franky is surprised/distracted/comments on the situation. The Straw Hats and Law fight over the leftovers that are Baby 5 & Buffalo.!
So the question isI mean really, no comment from him about needing Caesar at all? He doesn't even fire at them anymore?
Where would you squeeze this moment in, especially when we consider that even Law wasn't "allowed" to take action?
So next time he'll do that to allies then. That doesn't really help him in the ultimate idiot case. And Luffy has had his fair share of moments of random ingenuity as well.
Do what to allies? Randomly attacking them? He was perfectly aware that his crewmates are inside the lab (hence the line "I was getting tired of waiting"). And now 2 unknown entities fly towards him, in the New World, on a more than just hostile island. I would have fired too.
In the end I think I just have a different view of Franky in general. Oda builds many of his characters and their quirks on stereotypes, and in his case I just see traits of a "typical" daredevil with a manly interest in gadgets (and since this is One Piece, robots). When he entered Choppers body he wasn't worried or annoyed like Nami. He played with a new toy, an unusual gadget. "Fuck the manual, I'm a manly man who doesn't need instructions". Thats how I interpreted the scene. And the "pirate button" incident felt similar. "Manly men push buttons, I'm supa and I can't resist". Can it be considered dumb? Maybe, but I prefer to call it reckless. At least I'm convinced that he isn't dumb enough to think that Buffalo & Baby 5 where really after his cola, as hilarious that might be.

Thank you Redon.
Could someone upload it on another site? I would be most grateful (it doesn't work there for some reason :S)
I upload it in another server :)

@Big:
Everybody knows that liking Bleach makes you an action whore, liking Naruto makes you a moron, liking Fairy Tail makes you a pervert, and liking One Piece makes you a condescending jerk. These are indisputable facts.
Post of the Year.

Fisher Tiger is like Decken too, Fisher - surname, Tiger - first name that his pals use to refer to him. Apart from him I think no other Fishman have beem given 2 names. And this ambiguity about which is the first name only started after the timeskip with these guys and CC, at least for me…
As for Caesar Clown (if it is Clown) then I think he prefers being called Caesar because first and foremost he is a professional, a scientist and Caesar is a darn right powerful/strong name. I don't think he likes being called a Clown very much tho. If his name is Crown then same applies, he is a scientist and most I know go by their surnames. Except the famous ones like Steven Hawking, Albert Einstein :ninja: etc.
Yeah definitely man, that's where most of the confusion came from… The other side of the Red Line :ninja:
And thanks for reminding me of Fisher Tiger, knew I was missing something
