I'd rather that it "ends" and if he manages to push another part of the story, that it's tecnicaly a stand alone series. Like the "HxH Beyond Netero chapter".
Hunter x Hunter II

Hunter x hunter z
hunter x hunter shippuuden

It'll probably end up being like Yu Yu Hakusho. We get to the lowest level of hell, finally, and it's not fleshed out or expanded at all. We have a tournament, Yusuke loses, and that's it. That final chapter with the radio tower and the guys taking hostages was unnecessary, too.

My favorite is
X Hunter x Hunter Xor Hunter x Hunter '

Yeah, that was bad. They set the demon world up as an endless cavern with thousands of levels, each worse than the last. We see almost nothing, and the main characters become some of the strongest beings in the universe for no justified reason, throwing out all preexisting power levels like Dragon Ball Z, and don't even use them to make some interesting fights. And then they said that Demons are generally kinder than humans, although there are so many contradictions to that I don't even know where to start. It was just shoehorned in so the manga wouldn't end with the swift annihilation of the human race.

The Sensui arc was awesome though. Shonen fights, detective work, creepy villain, good stuff
-
I really, really loved the Chapter Black saga of YuYu Hakusho. While the series prior to that saga was mediocre at best (with the occasional good moment here and there) Chapter Black had a noticeable jump in quality in the writing and actually had some interesting fights. Sensui was a spectacular villain that actually had a logical reason for having a dissociative identity disorder and was an interesting contrast to Yusuke.
I'd say the twist with the Sacred Energy was the weakest part of the entire saga (well, aside from NOT letting Yu Kaito and his basically invicible ability take care of everything lol) since it undermined a lot of what made Sensui such an interesting villain and betrayed the theme of the saga (power doesn't necessarily matter, it's all about how you intelligent you are in using your ability). But even that aside I think Chapter Black is still a very solid arc, especially by YuYu Hakusho's standards, and definitely served as a prototype for how Hunter x Hunter would turn out in terms of creativity with abilities and getting into the psyche of the villains. -
^^^ I completely agree. You can see glimpses of HXH in YYH
-
Meh, if he pulls another Yu Yu end with HxH, Togashi can stay the fuck away from manga industry for all eternity for all I care.
He's a millionaire married to a even bigger millionaire, not like they need to work. -

He's a millionaire married to a even bigger millionaire, not like they need to work.I think that's one of the more frightening qualities in Togashi. He can pretty much call it quits anytime he wants without any major repurcussions (aside from people hating him, but he seems like such a recluse I'm sure it won't matter to him). Someone can royally piss him off (like an editor back with YYH) and he can just say "fuck it" and end the serie. He already has a ton of money so I don't know what's keeping him invested in HxH. It's not like he spends a lot of time working on it so…perhaps it is safe to assume he doesn't have a strong bond to it like Oda and his story. I'm going to assume he's writing it for the money and ease of his lifestyle (even though a manga author's lifestyle is supposed to be ANYTHING but easy).

I don't think you can. He was infected when Doctor attacked, and was justifiably not present when Seaman attacked. Likewise with Sniper. The rest of the arc took place in that cave, and they were on a huge time crunch, so using that ability on their remaining foes (most of which were around Kaitou's level in intelligence) would have taken much longer than just fighting them and thus was not an option.
I don't see how the Sacred Energy undermines Sensui. And it even gives an explanation as to why he waited before initiating his plan: he wanted to learn Sacred energy to ensure his victory. And that was theme? I didn't get that at all, but I see how it fits.
I agree with you on it being my favorite arc by a mile. And yeah, you can clearly see Togashi's evolution from Yu Yu Hakusho to Hunter x Hunter.
-
I enjoyed the Dark Tournament arc, too. Younger Toguro was your typical meathead overpowered villain, but his relationship with Genkai was interesting, as was finding out his older brother was actually behind most of what happened. We also got to see Genkai beat the shit out of that precursor for Hisoka's design, and that was fantastic.
-
Hey guys, I was wondering how you all pronounced the title of the series? My friends pronounce it 'Hunter X Hunter' and I've always said it as 'Hunter Hunter' the way the Anime did. What is the correct way?

I always pronounce it Hunter X Hunter (Hunter Ehx Hunter) when I actually talk about it. Although it sounds quirky, it's more engaging than Hunter Hunter to me.

Those Hiei fights in the Dark Tournament were amazing as well

I think Hunter x Hunter sounds better, but since the official pronunciation is Hunter Hunter, that's what I say.

He was infected when Doctor attacked,
Nope. Yana and Morota were infected by Doctor, Kaito was with Kurama's group who showed up to the hospital later, which Kurama decided to run ahead alone because plot.
Likewise with Sniper.
Because for whatever dumb reason Togashi made a new cast with interesting abilities only to immediately push them offscreen for majority of the saga (the justification given was Kaito and Yana were staying behind in the hospital to look after Kido who was paralyzed by Doctor but still).
The rest of the arc took place in that cave, and they were on a huge time crunch, so using that ability on their remaining foes (most of which were around Kaitou's level in intelligence) would have taken much longer than just fighting them and thus was not an option.
The man can create a territory where no violence can occur and can take your soul by uttering the"taboo word" within the territory, a taboo word which he admits he can freely change at any time. Yes, that could have never been useful at any point during the final confrontation.
And they didn't know they were on such a big time crunch when entering the cave. If memory serves right they thought they had a full day as opposed to the couple of hours left by the time they arrived at the hideout.
I don't see how the Sacred Energy undermines Sensui. And it even gives an explanation as to why he waited before initiating his plan: he wanted to learn Sacred energy to ensure his victory. And that was theme? I didn't get that at all, but I see how it fits.
The Sacred Energy took away an interesting aspect of Sensui that you rarely see in shonen: Sensui (under the Minoru personality) clearly and honestly admitted that he was weaker than Yusuke in many aspects. What Sensui had over Yusuke was a lot more spirit energy and years of experience. So even though Yusuke was better than him in a lot of respects he still got his ass kicked because Sensui knew what Yusuke was going to do and had enough style and technique to parry or at least soften the damage taken and provide a strong counter attack.
Sensui was the perfect culmination of the theme of Chapter Black. Right from the get-go we are told that even though our protagonists are a lot more powerful than the new psychics if they didn't use their head they were going to get killed. Power doesn't necessarily matter, you have to outwit your opponent. This was consistently shown and proven throughout the entire saga.
But then a new type power brought up completely out of the blue that instantly puts Sensui on a higher plane of power than everyone else? Yeah, okay.
-
Nope. Yana and Morota were infected by Doctor, Kaito was with Kurama's group who showed up to the hospital later, which Kurama decided to run ahead alone because plot.
Oh. Well, even if he was there, Doctor could have just run away. It wasn't like the Mansion setup, where Kurama couldn't leave or advance because Kaito had his friends. The same applies even moreso to Sniper.
The man can create a territory where no violence can occur and can take your soul by uttering the"taboo word" within the territory, a taboo word which he admits he can freely change at any time. Yes, that could have never been useful at any point during the final confrontation.

When he fought Kurama and CO he posted a sign outside the door. Even when he changed the conditions later on, they were agreed upon by Kurama. This implies that he has to make the enemy fully aware of the condition, and without their consent it must be one that affects everyone fairly. Otherwise, why would he post the message? Don't say that Genkai made him, that would run contrary to her efforts to test the group: she outright says that one should expect to fight enemies they don't know the abilities of. So that ability is a great deterrent for combat, but unless it has another function it is very difficult to get a K.O with.
Further, taking Gamemaster's soul would have interfered with the game, and thus not be allowed. That pet of Itsuki's didn't use violence, so he'd be swallowed up like the rest of them. It wouldn't have made a bit of difference in the end. That said, I agree that it would have been wise for them to at least try to use his help. Also, Kanagisawa could have given them a second Hiei, Kurama or Yusuke to use, albeit with less battle experience.

Hm, good point. I was more ticked off by Yusuke's powerup, but when you put it like that Sensui's is just as bad.

Gourmet eats them
Story overBy the way, why didn't gourmet eat Kuwabara?
Sensui told him not to. There was no real reason behind it.

They were supposed to be stronger than gourmet, the clone guy was specificaly weaker than the main cast.

Did they ever specificially say that he was weaker? I thought he copied everything about the person: meaning he'd be their equal. Come to think of it, that would make him as strong as every person he copied put together…
-
By the way, why didn't gourmet eat Kuwabara?
Kuwabara couldn't use his Jigen-tou at will yet. He just sort of accidentally brought it out against Seaman and couldn't bring it up against Sensui when he was trying to. So having Gourmet/Elder Toguro eating Kuwabara wouldn't have given him access to the Jigen-tou, which Sensui needed to cut the Kekkai barrier net.
Sensui just got really lucky that Yusuke's death was the impetus that pushed Kuwabara to being able to call it out lucidly really.

I say "HuntaHunta."

I don't care how long Togashi goes on hiatus… As long as i get to have more chapters in the future everything is fine and dandy. I'm in no hurry for the series to end. If it goes on for another 10 years fuck it.. More HxH.

That's how I feel. If he can do 20 to 30 chapters a year, and he enjoys his work and has a story to tell, I say keep it going

I'm mainly interested in how this next batch of chapters is going to play out. Is he going to care that he has the anime train speeding up to him very fast? Will the train have to come to a sudden halt because he's sitting playing Dragon Quest in the middle of the railroad? This next hiatus, if he takes one, is going to be very telling.
But yeah I agree, I like stories I enjoy to be prolonged and stay at their high quality so as long as he can manage that…
-

But he hasn't maintained that pace for years now. It would be nice, but I don't think it's gonna happen.

Don't agree with that at all. Just because I'm willing to wait for a series to come back from hiatus doesn't mean I want it to go in the first place. I get you probably don't want to sound impatient and support Togashi but there's nothing wrong with calling someone out for having bad work ethics if its true.
-
But he hasn't maintained that pace for years now. It would be nice, but I don't think it's gonna happen.
Sure he has. He did 30 chapters straight through last year. It was the longest run HXH has had since the epic "is this series even going to ever continue?" hiatus at chapter 260. A few of the batches near the end of the CA arc were either two ten chapter runs a year, or one twenty chapter run
-
Whether Togashi has bad work ethic or not doesn't matter. All that matters is chaps come out and it remains at the same quality or higher (and we've already had a problem with quality). To me calling him out on it is for shits and giggles. He could easily just up and leave this title and give it a rushed ending. Not like the fans are his boss.
-

No. He did 30 chapters straight through over TWO YEARS.
16 of them were in 2011, 14 in 2012. The rest of the 2011 and 2012 were absent, making it:2011 - 16 chapters serialized, 31 issues absent (47 issues of Jump in 2011)
2012 - 14 chapters serialized, 34 issues absent (48 issues of Jump in 2012)Feel free to ride his cock, but let's at least be honest here.

And of course, this.
Wow, that is such a conveniant shorthand for everything wrong with his work ethic.

Am I the only one that actually likes the scribbly art? yeah I no it's frustrating to see an artist who can draw better than that draw like that but I dunno why I like it, when it's in small doses cause he does leave some scribbly looking art in volumes it's just like in a panel or the background half the time and the rest of it looks decent.
still upset that he didn't redraw chaps 337 and 338 like honestly :getlost:

I still think this is the funniest of Togashi's scribbles

It looks more like he was trying to make it a very detailed chapter, but he ran out of time.

Or he looked at the turkey after drawing it, got hungry, and scribbled through the rest of the page so he can go off to eat!

I hope someday in the future some manga artist decides to write a parody of Togashi's lifestyle and inserts a scene where he draws a turkey, succumbs a craving for turkey, and then scribbles the rest of the panels before he goes off to the store to buy a turkey. It seems so ridiculous, but probable based on Togashi's lifestyle and work ethics.

So this sounds interesting: (http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=544837)
According to Mainichi, the second movie of Hunter x Hunter was announced at the end of Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge movie. The short trailer showed Chairman Netero and the Heavens Arena.

I just really think it's something that this series can have a successful [currently airing] anime, a film that's getting the Pokemon treatment (teaser for another film right after the movie you just watched), manga sales doing well with scribbles and all this doesn't make Togashi do more work. I guess there are two trains of thought here: 1. It's being successful with no input from him at all (aside from two tie-in chapters) so he can just sit around and let the money come in. 2. All this success should inspire him to tell the story he wants to do. Togashi should've used 2011/2012 as re-birth for HxH, with continuous manga, an anime and movies. Hell, it'd probably be even bigger if he did that. But nah… he just got Dragon Quest X so were on a hiatus.
Hope that didn't poke in arguments (as this is a circular thread), but I've said my piece.

Another movie is cool…well hopefully it will come back in march seeing as how it would be hxh's 15th anniversary ( or so my friend tells me)
