I'm sorry for all those kids dead and alive. I mean, even adults have a hard time comprehending with this. I'm sure they'll get the proper help and all, but this will mark their whole life.
And before Christmas. Like it wasn't horrible already.

Especially adults.
The news keeps talking about a scene where parents waiting outside for their kids, had a police worker come out and have to tell them that their particular kids were not coming out.
Okay, this is just shite :(
Feel incredibly sorry for all concerned :(

Reading this, my eyes got all teary…
This is terrible. And it's not just terrible because of the sheer human tragedy involved. Actually, MK's posts in particular make we wonder. Surely catastrophe caused by loose regulation (in part) means that people are bound to fear for their own personal security - and that of those they teach and work with - if they are or aim to become school workers.
You know, mass shootings convinced the UK to severely tighten its gun laws. And it does seem to work. Now the whole 2nd Amendment debate might be a big deal is the US, but I don't see how the right to bear arms can possibly be more important than security. And arguing that you can get security by arms is utterly ridiculous. The Bill of Rights was written in a different age, and guns have changed. It seems ridiculous not to take 'harsh' measures when the result of not doing so is so clear all around you, doesn't it?
Oh, and these school shootings tend to be in high schools and colleges, right? The optimistic side of me is reservedly hoping that somehow the youth of the victims in this case will turn public opinion.

Too many 'hardcore' rednecks in this country (America) that want to relive the 'good ol' days' of the Wild West; think everyone should carry a gun, as if that would somehow make the nation safer.
On another note: My parents cried (mostly my mother), because they pictured me as an Elementary School child in that position; no lie. (I'm 21 right now).

The 2nd Ammendment is important to parts of the US with hunting culture, we don't have that up here at all, so hopefully the state can tighten things if need be.
So… The shooter was confirmed (Ryan Lanza, age 24), and, not only did he kill children, but, he killed his own mother (who was a teacher at the school).
"he killed his own mother"
"his own mother"
"mother"
That really pisses me off.
Unfortunately, strict gun control laws won't put a stop to tragedies like this one. Just like everything else thats banned it can still be easy to acquire if you know where to look.

Since when has automatic/pistols or submachine pistols had anything to do with hunting? Weapons used to hunt game such as deers and mooses are usually single shot rifles or shotguns, its a invalid statement that you need automatic small arms for hunting purposes.
In rural areas its not uncommon to have hunting rifle or shotgun in houses for purely for hunting purposes but using such weapons for school massacres is much more difficult because slow rate of fire and much greater need for aim, also such long weapons are much harder to conceal and walking with such weapon into class room without alarming anyone is very unpractical.
Automatic/semi automatic pistols and small arms are one thing entirely.

Guns for hunting and guns for self-defence are different though. Particularly, I should think that different guns are used. I would've thought that machine guns/automatics could be banned outright without conflicting with that, and pistols could be tightly regulated in most parts of the US/to most people of the US.
edit: beaten to it. And also, firearms for hunting are allowed in Britain, with a licence.
Unfortunately, strict gun control laws won't put a stop to tragedies like this one. Just like everything else thats banned it can still be easy to acquire if you know where to look.
I don't have any real evidence to back this up with, but I don't think that's accurate. Again looking at Britain, major incidents since the tightening of control have been with legal firearms … in the 1996 case it was down to giving a licence to someone who oughtn't have one; in the Cumbria shootings a couple of years ago, the guy was driving around shooting . . .
Seriously, it's one thing someone having guns and going crazy with them, and another someone being able to get guns illegally and use them barbarically.
I've always been of the mindset that crazy people will always get a gun if they're determined enough and no one stops them beforehand. Depressing I know. :(
Yes, but it makes it much harder for aformentioned nut jobs to get a gun. Also you'd be surprised how many nut jobs do this shit on pure impulse.
Another bad part about this shooting… The mental damage that will now be embedded into the mind of several children; mental damage, that, can last a lifetime.
Now, that may not seem the case, but it most likely will be. The mind is TOO FRAGILE; moreso the mind of a child.
Awful. No loving parent deserves to see their child go before them.
However, "harsh gun control won't prevent shootings of innocent" argument always sounds to me like the "participation in goverment elections won't bring immediate change to my country" one.
It's actually illegal for me to possess a weapon, because I signed this paper in the psychiatric hospital.
I mean, I think there's SOME truth to "they'll find a weapon either way", but provisions certainly make it more difficult.
It wasn't him. He was falsely identified
Poor guy.
lol… I do have to laugh at that; poor guy. He mad, mad indeed! (Especially since they're still throwing around his name on the big news channels as the shooter). (Or is it another Ryan Lanza)?
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
oBAMa is going to make a statement soon, for those who want to watch that; estimated time = 3:15 EST.
This is horrible, no kids shouldn't be harmed like this. This is just sad day. I'm praying for anyone that is affected by this. No one should be harmed like this.
I never know how to react to this kind of news. Generally it puts me it an almost catatonic state as I try to process the information. The same thing happened to me this time, but then I broke down and cried as I kept learning more. As I kept thinking of all those poor children. And then I couldn't stop watching those videos CNN put up of the children and the families talking about what happened.
Things like this make me want to believe in God and a heaven, because when I think of all these poor children whose lives were just cut horribly short, all those parents who are going to have to bury their babies, I can't deal.
They're all in my prayers.
I wish CNN would stop talking about the shooter.
This news is terrible… but all these news syndicates that have falsely accused another Ryan Lanza need to APOLOGIZE. For example the Mediate have put up an article titled:
Is this Connecticut's School Shooter Ryan Lanza's Facebook? (http://www.mediaite.com/online/is-this-connecticut-school-shooter-ryan-lanzas-facebook/)
Great way to jump to conclusions just because you want to be the first to cover something even if it means issuing out things that you have no certainty of being accurate. It's only in till the very bottom of the article that they inform us that it was a mistake. The very bottom? How about placing it at the top? WAIT No… how about you just delete the article altogether and apologize? Fucking **greedy media
Edit: The media goons have finally gotten there common sense back (if they ever had any) and have altered or deleted their piece of shit news… but it's TOO LATE. Lanza is SO gonna sue for defamation.**
Holy fuck! 27 dead? That's surpasses even the Colarado shootings. Man, jesus christ we just had anotehr shooting not to long ago in oregon, and that pales in comparison to this.
Most of the victims were Kindergartners in the shooter's mother's class room.
Gun laws in the US really does tick me off. Even more towards the people that constantly try thier damnest to justify them. Maybe I'm just royaly pissed off upon hearing this news at this very moment but damn. I gotta send my hearts out to the families that were affected by this some way or another.
Go figure that Doctor Drew would be the only person on CNN talking sense.
RIP to all those who died (except for the asshole responsible).
This is absolutely awful.
I have extended family in Monroe, which is roughly 16 minutes away from Newtown if i'm using google correctly.
Gonna give them a call tonight and see how they're holding up.
Why are these sick people trying to get interviews out of children who were just in a massacre????? Those people should be fired. And get pyschiatric help.
Media. This is why I don't watch tv anymore.
Fuck guns.
This is repulsive. The shit people are trying to say to defend gun ownership for sick motherfucks like this is repulsive.
Metal detectors in every school. Psychiatric evaluations for anyone trying to possess a firearm. Automatic weapons ban.
I fucking hate guns.
Enough is enough.
@Nex:

I feel like puking….. Poor babies... Sweet, innocent babies like my little loves D:
Wait, so the killer was really a guy named Ryan Lanza, whose own mother was one of the victims?
Funny, there are apparently two other Ryan Lanzas from Newtown who are NOT the killer.
I don't get who can kill children, especially children that young. And I really don't get how you can kill your own mother (and apparently, he killed someone else at his place of residence).
New conformation puts victim toll at 6 adults, 20 children.
The whole incident is just awful. I have a 5 year old cousin, and the thought that it happened to kids like him is sickening
What the flying fuck is happening with the world? :/
What the flying fuck is happening with the world? :/
Yeah… I read about this one too, but overloading people with despair isn't something I want to do. lol...
I more like feeling enraged than despaired.
Heard something about the news after my exam today, but I only found out that it was at an ELEMENTARY school in Connecticut when I got home. Fuck, I have a 3-year-old cousin up in Fairfield and the thought of him having to hear about all of this if he were slightly older (or worry about whether he was safe or not) would be terrifying/extremely upsetting. Honestly, how many shootings does it take before we can have meaningful debate on guns? Hell, what about BRINGING UP mental care in these debates?
ugh honestly this is absolutely horrible.
Fuck guns.

That saddest part isn't just that 20 children died, its the fact that nothing will change even after this.

Whoa, yeah, call them. Monroe is NEXT to Newtown, under it to be exact.
God, poor children, poor parents, I pray for the dead and the families. It's always most painful when little ones are harmed. It's beyond human understanding why somebody does something like this.
How come it's legal in US to posses Automatic weapons? I mean I can understand hunting rifles or small guns for self protection, but freaking automates? That's military weapon, why would a normal person need to posses that
What the flying fuck is happening with the world? :/
Didn't even know this happened. I can see the NRA referencing this news as a means of supporting their cause.
Honestly, I really wish I could help the surviving children get psychiatric help. The dead are dead, but the survivors, who are probably mentally scarred, can still be helped

I;d say if anything it helps the opposite case: He injured many, but killed noone, which is probably in large part BECAUSE he had no gun

Apparently the Ryan Lanza person is the brother of the killer, Adam Lanza.
@Monkey:

Well, that's unfortunate. xD
Terrible, just terrible. The whole thing is dismaying and tragic, and it hits close to me because being a K-4 teacher is what my sister is planning to go into. To think that not even a children's classroom is safe from this kind of horror is really something that ought to make folks start doing some reflection, but dammit, gun culture and its lobbyists are too firmly entrenched in this country to make any sort of progress on preventing these tragedies from occurring.
No one should have to go through this.
Well that didn't take long.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for bringing this up, especially when we are discussing such a tragedy. But if I end up on Zeph's shit-list then so be it.
@Monkey:
It's impossible, it would really take too long to explain. Where are the Scandinavians, they would know what having a gun culture is like. Now pair that with a right wing filled with conspiracy theories and huge paranoia and lobbyists. It's impossible for federal level regulation to happened.
And I don't give enough of a shit. It's such a small issue, it would be retarded to waste political capital on it when there's so much else that needs working on.
I don't understand gun culture at all, but it's a rural thing. That's why you guys don't get it either.
In the country guns = hunting, family tradition etc.
Where I come from the guns you hear about are teenagers shooting eachother in east Bridgeport over drugs.
Do you stand by your statements now Zephos?

You completely misunderstood that post apparently. Gun control is a useless issue to bring up nationally because of the resistance to it. You will rile up half the country and lose votes and politicians you would need to fix medicare and maybe not go to a stupid war again. I stand by it. Thankfully states can jigger their individual laws, so we up here don't have to give a fuck what Angus Dangle of shitkicker Arkansas has to think about it.
And yes this is a really shitty time to bring this up Bill.
