Todd does Tubthumping
http://blip.tv/todds-pop-song-reviews/one-hit-wonderland-tubthumping-by-chumbawamba-6456971
I remember this song, and I only knew the chorus for YEARS. I never bothered to look up who it was by or what the rest of the lyrics were shockingly enough. Glad Todd tackled this song cause its always a treat to listen to his info. Can't wait for his next piece. I also noticed that he's slowly moving up in the front page. They should just go ahead and move him somewhere near the top already. Also Oancitizen needs to be on the front page too.

We did, though the manga Nik looks at for reviews and the topics we discuss on WMR aren't mutually exclusive. In regards to "Not My Fault", he had much more to talk about since a few more months of serialization have come out, and it's an interesting series to look at.
-
I managed to get weekly manga recap to talk about a manga I suggested. Yay me :) Hopefully, it will entice more people to pick up manga by Noboyuki Fukumoto.

God that Melancholia review got dark. It's kind of uncomfortable seeing two reviewers lash out at each other, even if you know it's just acting
That plus Lupa's anniversary episode's turn for the dark (having reviewers insult her as deadites) makes two reviewers who have laid their insecurities bare like that in a short span. Bravi, bravi

Anyone else feel like that Melancholia review hit painfully close to home?
Anyways, I loved it. Wasn't funny at all, but then again, does everything have to be? It was a good 50th, I think.

Still trying to figure out how much of the "storyline" for the episode was based on his experiences or someone else he knows. At least in part.

Isn't that the one with pink! Princess Sally in the Adventures of show… where she has no dialogue for some reason?
The one and only.
Actually, I think pink Sally appeared in the comics too.
! At any rate, I loved the bit where Grounder shoved his drill through the kid's face.
-
The one and only.
Actually, I think pink Sally appeared in the comics too.
She did very early on, and also in the pilot episode of SatAM. Then they switched to brown and the comics followed very soon after. The different coloring was retconned away in reprints where they changed her to brown.
The Christmas special was weird in that it was several years later, and brown had long been the standard look.

The final installment of Chester A. Bum's Christmas reviews.

Not exactly. Dickman felt Spoony was toxic to his career, so he completely cut off all possible ties. No more intro, no more title cards, even his tributes are gone (like Channel Awesome X).
Spoony may still be on good terms with a number of CA people, but there's still quite a few contributors he pissed off. -

Stupid 3 minute review. Made me hunt for and drag out my copy of the soundtrack. And also go "Why don't I have this on blu ray yet? (Short answer-I don't have ANYTHING on blu ray yet.)

Yes! Oh my god, I've been waiting for this! I can only hope he talks about the cartoon. That…. lovely abomination of a show that is spammed in our face every year during Christmas on Cartoon Network.

Wow, with Disneycember, Christmas Bum Reviews, Sibling Rivalry and now this, Doug has a ton of output currently. Is this all to counter the underperformance of Demo Reel?
@Thousand:

Sigh.
Spoony, I love ya, but…you can't bash the game for the turn based combat. Or the monsters vanishing upon defeat. Bad storytelling? Awful world design? Inconsistent writing? Absolutely. But moaning about not being able to move your characters out of an attacks way….its a game. It can set its own rules. Its what games DO. It working awesomely in Grandia II is another matter, but you might as well bitch about civilization taking place in a world of hexagons, about building/unit production being too fast in RTS'es (and a footsoldier just destroyed a castle! Outrageous!), or about how gathering 100 coins gains you a life.
I know I'm one of the king nitpickers around here, but even if done in jest, this is just so missing the point that its not funny. By all means take a shit on plotholes and game design shortcomings. They sell Dalad Jelly in the cafeteria? Hilarious! But don't make almost a whole video bascially complaining that Goombas vanish when stomped on and expect me to be entertained.

You know I had an idea: why doesn't Spoony work on instalments of the FF reviews in "secret", and only start releasing them once he's finished at a week/two week pace ? Because it takes months between parts, it loses alot of it's punch because of it and he still does stuff inbetween so it's not like he'd be doing anything different, he'd just postpone releasing the finished videos until he has more to go around.
Same problem I have with Linkara when he reviews something with more parts. Like how many months has it been since he started reviewing Marvile and he's not halfway done yet if I recall (though I have a huge backlog of Linkara videos because I kinda stopped watching him because Doug's quiting the NC on such an unceremonious and previoulsy un-anounced note left me with a real sour taste in my mouth to this day, so I might have missed something) ? And yes I've said this before but it's true. Especialy if the review itself hypes it up so much.
Also. Stopped watching when he went to the bearded guy who told him "You're turning evil !" How embarassing did that get ?
-
@The:
Wow, with Disneycember, Christmas Bum Reviews, Sibling Rivalry and now this, Doug has a ton of output currently. Is this all to counter the underperformance of Demo Reel?
I'd say it's partly because he's still trying to find his footing with Demo Reel and partly because…well, it's Christmas and he wants to do something special with his other shows. As for Demo Reel, aside from the general difficulty he's been having with a show, this is kind of an awkward time for him to get a new (main) show started. I mean, the second episode was a Thanksgiving episode and the third was mostly him at a con. So yeah, it's a bit hard to initiate his audience with a new show under these circumstances, especially one that hasn't been particularly well-received.
Hopefully next year he can finally get his groove going.
-
Aside from not really being a good idea to begin with, I think it would've done better if he introduced the show BEFORE quitting Nostalgic Critic. It was already turn-off by the get-go just being a replacement series to something so loved.

He's only gotten like 60 minutes into the game. He'll get around to it don't worry. I actually agree with him on his points.
Final Fantasy isn't a Nintendo platform game made in the 90s, the whole vanishing thing does take you out of the world. As do the restrictions on movement. It's fine to say, it's a game and it sets its own rules but if those rules are shitty and ruin the experience?
But I do agree that the first part of the review wasn't as meaty as I would have liked.

@No:

What do you think he's been doing for the last 8 months? He's been at this game for a WHILE if his twitter rants are any indication. And he's recorded like 80 hours of game footage, he's slogged throguh the actual game and gotten his video, now its just scripting and editing.
and only start releasing them once he's finished at a week/two week pace ?
Because its the big attention grabber that people want to see from him that gets him traffic and hits, and thus, income.
Its also super time consuming and if he waited till the entire thing was done procrastination would completely kill it and he'd get super bored and burned out on it… and it would never get done.
Same reason any ongoing series releases in installments as its done rather than waiting till its all finished.
because Doug's quiting the NC on such an unceremonious and previoulsy un-anounced note left me with a real sour taste in my mouth to this day, so I might have missed something) ?
They were pretty obvious about the movie being the end of the nostalgia critic for months and months in advance… including the messload of crossover reviews, commentaries saying things like "Well, we're never going to top this Moulin Rogue video" "running out of ways to do these reviews and keep it fresh" and so on. And the final review was a final Star Trek episode thing.
it might have seemed sudden, but the gear up was pretty obvious for months, people just didn't want to believe he was ending it.
But yes, since he stopped doing it I've been less inclined to check other people's videos. He was the quality glue holding a lot of it together making you tune in every week.
-

Spoony does do OTHER videos.
I actually like his Counter Monkey stuff best, its the most entertaining story time.
-
That and his movie vlogs are pretty great too. I actually prefer them to his usual stuff because it's just him being him and the emotions are much more raw and real. He just released a vlog on the Hobbit and it was great to see him geek out over Lord of the Rings. And after they were done talking about the movie, he and his brother started talking trailers and bashing shitty-looking movies like the new one from Shyamalan. It was hilarious.
-
Spoony's FFXIII review is downright awful so far.
