Things in manga/anime you're sick of seeing

Code Geass and certain Gundam titles come to mind.The former pretty much had the solution of bringing about harmony and world peace in the form of

! main character conquering the world,intentionally being a massive dictator dick to make everyone hate his guts,then having his protege doan the mask of the hero figure and publicly assasinate him.Apparently,this new "liberated" world is now gonna be extremely fine and dandy just because some hated douche kicked the bucket and the show explicitly states that the protagonist,now rendered a silent martyr,"took all of the world's hatred with him" or something like that.
! I don't think I need explain why this is absolutely ridiculous.

Another example is Gundam 00,which treats the complex issue of war in an EXTREMELY one-dimensional manner,in which it assumes that the only real source of each and every conflict is misunderstanding,which is overly simplistic,for,as I think people will agree,there tons of different reasons that compel people to get violent on each other.

It's end-solution is a godly giant robot that can sprinkle magical sci-fi pixie dust that makes people have telepathy sessions for instant understanding,solving multiple personal conflicts and story arcs in one scene by having the protag literally push a button to bring about rainbows and unicorns.

Further on the topic of Gundam 00,the very idea Celestial Being is highly unrealistic and sorta ridiculous.Radical pacifist terrorists who settle conflicts by whacking the everloving scrap out of both sides of the conflict?Okay.

A bunch of kids being brutally murdered in some sick gory fashion. Most likely by some unsuspected supernatural being that crawled out of an ass somewhere.
It makes me wonder if the authors of such series had problems at school and took out the frustration on paper.
And it also makes me wonder about the timeline of events. I mean, sometimes I think "why is all this shit happening now?".
And why the protagonist is always some unrelatable outcast that's in love some some mary sue that gets killed.
Maybe it goes back to the author self inserting his own problems.

Either way, I hate that whole genre with passion.

I read, I think, four series that were like this and never realized this…......I think I hate myself a little.

Actually no, I suggest watching it. It's only 11 episodes or so and very well done, just not what I had expected. It definitely focused more on the politics of war and less on war itself…but there's some seriously mind-boggling themes and ideas in play that I was impressed with.

I had just assumed you were referring to it, and that you found it convoluted. I personally don't know enough about politics to judge whether the anime really was relateable, but it was definitely easy on the eyes...and by that I mean movie-quality animation per episode.

Also they used one of Oasis's songs as an opening :)

Still it's better then having the cocktease of "character A likes character B, character B likes character A, both know this, nothing ever comes of it but we'll have about 476 different pointless misunderstandings resulting from the fact that nothing ever comes of it".

Once I'd like to see a shounen type manga where there's a normal relationship going on that isn't setup to be fucked over by random plot twist or dangled infront of the audience's face for the entiere series only to finaly resolve on the last chapter. I'm not even into romance realy I just want to see this apparently pretty common thing actualy used instead of those run of the mill clichés.

And yes, Rave was annoying in regards to this.

But on a subject that recently irritates me even more: I realy hate it when you have a villain who'se been built up as this heartless sadistic motherfucker only to get randomly humanised when the author engages auto-sympathise mode using random exposition dumps in the middle of battle. It's pretty bad in Hokuto no Ken and Souten no Ken. Two examples come to mind: in HNK we have the bad guy from the Blanca "arc" humanised like seven chapters into the arc, which made the arc cut to a close before it even began wasting all the potential. Then in SNK you have Zong Wu. Okay so his ex-girlfriend gives birth to a stillborn kid. His reaction ? He cuts off her nipples.

And then he's suddenly and randomly not the bad guy anymore after working for the fucking Wehrmacht intentionaly killing people to make sure war breaks out so he can sell them tanks. And then he's suddenly not a bad guy anymore just because someone else other then Kenshiro beat him up.

Furthermore,early examples of Amuro and Camille were selfish assholes,refusing to do the job out of egotistical reasons and flaws of character,which,in my opinion,is rather human.Later however,the arhcetypal Reluctant Mecha Hero became a hardcore pacifist who whines because he hates war and bloodshed.Not only does this imply constant annoying bitching for self-justification("he does this stuff and lives this power fantasy,but look,that torments him man!),but even preaching rainbows and unicorns to their enemies right on the battlefield,while piloting their machines of death and destruction.Sheer hipocrisy of them preaching peace at gunpoint is annoying.Basically,pacifism and THE TORMENT,combined with them inevitably being savior heroes,in my eyes,is just a means to cloak all the power fantasies.

With this,Gundam's message becomes less "war is bad" and more "war is bad,but it's so coooool sometimes,NOW BUY OUR FUCKING MODEL KITS OF THEM COOL WAR MOBILE SUITS!".

Badass protag, badass scientist, realistic media and populace reaction, realistic damages and casualties, and badass opponents.
Had everything I've ever wanted in a giant robot show, too bad it never got enough attention and the volumes are out of print. :/
OVA series would be nice. Sonoda's works sometimes get OVA treatment way after publication, so it's not entirely impossible…

Armored Trooper VOTOMS is one series that avoids so many trappings of "real robot" giant robot shows…though I hate all of it's pointless sequels,prequels(they introduce the pivotal concept...that simply isn't present in the main series...making it confusing as hell) and stuff.

I wish Exxaxon by Sonoda Kenichi would get animated one day.

Well unlike VOTOMS, which gave a more of hot warzone conflct atmosphere, Exxaxon was a modern-day Super Robot.
Alien invasion, 21st century Earth, only one super O-parts Robot that can fight off the aliens, the aliens starting to delve into modern political strategy as well as media manupilation, ungrateful civilians, political tug-of-war between the mad scientist grampa and the evil-yet-reasonable antagonist that reminds you of Crowley the Devil from Supernatural, etc.

It's much more modern take of Zanbot 3 like stories.
It dealt with various interesting facets of conflict, from "how do the population react to the type of damage and casualty caused by Ultraman fighting a monster?", hero complex and accepting casualties for cause, racial tension leading to abuse and rape of the invader's race, when to accept "gray zone" for acceptabe closure, Soylent Green, etc.

The protagonist starts out more of a righteous idealistic hero, who hates his grandpa who is more… political schemist type of savior, but eventually matures and grows into someone just like him. Lol.

You probably won't like Ryouji Minagawa's works (Spriggan, ARMS, etc) then… pretty much every other mass-murdering creep turns soft and good guys after protagonists save them from their trauma.
I like his works for other reasons though, enough to offset the annoying "oh god not another villain turned huggly wuggly again!"

No, you can actually find the scans of all seven volumes. The first five volumes are scans of an official english edition by Dark Horse, and the last two are fan translations of japanese tankobon.

Most aggregator websites have it under Cannon God Exaxxion.

I am kinda of sick of seeing One Piece fans drooling over the supernovas (superpowers and cool looks) as if they were as important and deep as the main characters. We know next to nothing about them and more importantly there is nothing really deep or sad about these characters (something all the strawhats have in common) for me to relate to them. Don't get me wrong, they are top notch in terms of design, creativty and cool looks but due their lack of depth its hard for me to care. If fans think apperances >>>> depth (vulnerability) then maybe they are missing the point.

It just seems like lazy writing and that the author is trying to force us readers to feel sympathetic. It's easy to create a dark story, but it's impressive when you keep it balanced.

UUGH… It's not only dumb because EVERY FREAKING HAREM SHOW DOES IT but, honestly, If I screamed bloody murder like that, I'D WANT EVERY FUCKING PERSON IN THAT HOUSE TO COME RUNNING!

Yeah. I really despise this. Not only does it make the girl look like a quick-to-jump-to-conclusions idiot, it also makes the guy take physical and verbal abuse that makes me uncomfortable.

I'm not sure if it wouldn't happen in real life, though… No offense meant, but I'm not taking the risk of sexual harassment to check up on a naked girl unless I've known her for a while.

The reason they do it I think is to try to deepen the relationship by having the guy see the girl's naked body, but it just ends up distancing them for a short while. Buuut, you can get anime that subvert this trope and have the guy walk in on the girl and she doesn't care, or the girl walking in on the guy and the guy calls HER an idiot, and when that does happen it's great...

While Bleach's story and plot are terrible, it still maintains that balance between dark moods and happy tones. Even Bleach's recent arc, although quite devastating, managed to pick up back into that up beat mood when the RG were introduced. Naruto however, stayed in that dark place.

I can expect stories like Monster and Zetman to have a higher ration of dark themes compared to more upbeat themes. I don't expect the same from a Shounen Series that started upbeat and was meant to be that way, but then allows the darkness to overshadow everything. It's just too damn depressing… (and too unnecessarily dramatic)

Well, there's times when a series wants to parallel itself with horrible real life stuff and wants to expound upon it, and we all know which example I'm referring to there. :3 There are just some things in the world that need to be called attention to. :3 OP is only gonna get darker, so I hope you'll buckle yourself in for that. :3 Its position in its country of origin means the author has a big opportunity to expose a lot of corruption, and even mention where he got the inspiration for that corruption (in the example of Grey Terminal in the Luffy/Sabo/Ace flashback). :3

But One Piece is what I would consider a balanced series. We all know that one of the biggest underlying themes of One Piece is the dark horrors of the Void Century, but this alone doesn't throw the whole series into despair. Neither has any of the series' encounters with such themes.

Also, at least with the back stories of the SH, which are all friggen sad, the characters themselves refrain from circling life allowing grudges to dictate their views and happiness (unlike with Naruto: Pein, Sasuke, Itachi, Nagato, Jugo, Obito)

It maintains that balance! And will continue to do so, so I have no fear of Oda introducing more dark themes into the story. At this point its actually inevitable

True, that's because the editors kept trying to tell him how to write the series. I remember that it was said they were trying to sell more than maintain the story. Its one reason it changed so much from Chapter Black to Three Kings, the biggest change was omiting Kuwabara. They wanted him to focus on Urameshi, Kurama & Hiei, the "cool guys", even though Kuwabara was still in the top 5 fave characters. Esp after the Chapter black that had Kuwabara play a major role of the story with his Jigan Tou.

I see Yu Yu Hakusho as how a series can fall apart when others try to "influence the creative process" (other words put pressure on to write a certain way) of the writer.
